BENQ WiT e-Reading Lamp Reviewed

- I don't get given free stuff very often these days so imagine my delight to be given something as flash as this lamp from BENQ. I can honestly say it's a very good light for modellers - but only if you can afford to splash the extra as it's not a cheap product.
In this video I put the lamp through a series of tests against my current LED Task Lamp, though I didn't want to do a straight up comparison as they're different products - the task lamp is workman-like, utilitarian, big and functional. The BENQ would look right at home in any setting, so if you model in the house it would certainly look better than a huge LED task lamp.
Thanks to BENQ for the review sample - what an amazing thing to be given! This is now the main light on my bench, but if I'm brutally honest I would never have been able to justify spending so much so it's a bit of a difficult one to do a review on.
If you've got the cash then the BENQ WiT e-reading lamp is a very good choice for the workbench
more modelling content coming soon!

It's definitely going on the wishlist
😉👌
Thanks for the review! I picked one up on eBay for 185 EUR. Generic Chinese task lamps on Amazon were 100 - 120 EUR, so the BenQ wasn’t that much more for a ‘proper’ lamp.
Ouch! That’s flippin’ expensive.
Yeah, it is a very expensive piece of kit. Smart as hell, but I couldn't have bought one for myself.
I have had much success with a couple of IKEA desk light armatures with Philips Hue light bulbs (White Ambiance / Colour with a Hue Bridge), that way I can use them for hobby as well as other stuff (that requires less light amount and other colour temperature variables). And as far as I know there are many light bulb options these days with similar features as the Philips Hue. I have no experience with those bulbs and filming though.
I was thinking maybe of getting some of those photography diffusers. The big white squares and wall mount two of em. One of each side of my work desk. And then grabbing one of these lamps or similar. Not sure about if that’s way overboard though.
Led lamps are much cheaper nowadays, with built in diffusers etc. The Benq is a really good lamp for on your desk but the price (at the time of this video anyway) was high. Shop around and find what works for you. Wall mounting is a great idea though, keep that bench space nice and open
@@ScaleModelMedic true. I’m still looking around. Currently renovating and building a computer/mini painting room. Having a space to constantly have projects on the go. Paints on the wall on shelves. Gonna be epic!
love it
Yo! You should try simple ikea lamp with any high quality led bulb that has high CRI. You will be shocked
I had to Google CRI but now I'm a bit more educated, thank you
I am buying one this week! Just what I need, two lights are becoming tedious.
I have the task lamp like you originally had and found it great for working under. But like you stated, the BenQ is a very pricey bit of kit. I'll have to stick with my task lamp.
The task lamps are great there is nothing wrong with them at all, the flickering on camera can be overcome with some messing about with the camera. The quality for the price is awesome on the task lamp, I just got lucky getting this lamp. I don't review stuff often so to get something so nice was really cool.
I've even been looking to get a new lamp, so was really exited when I saw this, but Holy lord that's a way to expensive lamp.
Yeah it's not the ideal price range for most. I got really lucky. The task lamps are excellent and better modellers than me are using them every day, I'm not trying to sell anyone a more expensive lamp just giving an honest opinion.
What lamp were you using previously to receiving the BENQ lamp?
Is this video reviewing working under the light or filming under the light?
Both I guess, I have been working under it for a few weeks now and it's really good, but for me working and filming go hand in hand usually
If lighting for filming is an issue, why don't you just buy a couple of photography lamps?? Their not that expensive & with a couple of defuser hoods you'll eliminate any shadows...
So to be clear, you did not buy it. They gave it to you?
Yes, if I overdid that a bit in the video then I apologise but I wanted to be very transparent about it.
@@ScaleModelMedic I just wanted to know before I watched it because I try not to watch reviews of free products. Thanks for responding.
@@blueline308 I don't review stuff often, it doesn't suit me, but... Getting this lamp was a stroke of luck, and in the video I made sure everyone knew it was free because a long time ago I was accused of saying something was good cos I had it for free - when I'd paid for it myself! I'm just a normal guy not an influencer or anything so I'm not out to lie to people for free gear. This is a damn nice lamp but in my summary at the end I basically say if you've got the money to buy one then they're great but they're prohibitively expensive for most people.
225$ ????????????????
