Meng King Tiger : Pre-Build Review

- Before I begin a video series on the build I've done an inbox review of the Meng King Tiger so you can see the sprues (up close in a few places) and observe the quality. Also I wanted to get a feel for how good the kit was, and I can honestly say it's very impressive for the money! Hope to get the first part of the build filmed very soon.

Glad to see you finally have your hands on the kit. It looks a great kit for the price with what you get in the box. Great review and looking forward to the build.
Cracking review mate, I was not expecting to see such nice moulding and casting texture I think I have found my next armour kit :) glad you finally got it and looking forward to the series
Been sitting on the fence about this kit, you've pushed me off, and will have to pick it up. The first sprue you pulled out sold me on it, thanks.
Great review mate cant wait to see it being built
Great review. I reviewed the other new king tiger kit and was impressed. However I really like the MENG kit and all the stuff they are producing. Im looking forward to your build. They are big kits and a real builders joy.
Looking forward to this buddy
Marvelous review, very helpful. Modelers can purchase the Star Military Decals for the Tiger 2 in which they have produced 3 different styles exclusive to King Tigers plus further packs for German Heavy Armoured Battalions. I recently bought one and found the quality to be very very good.
Excellent review!-very thorough!, I have this kit on order , I chose it in preference to the TAKOM kits as I did not see the point
in having the interior included but not visible when completed!-something which MENG have done in a more sensible way by making the detail sets available separately.
Tony Surridge I've been building it and encountered a problem with the suspension lining up. I thought this might put the takom kit in the lead but it turns out that the takom has the same issue...no idea why both kits had a problem in the same area!
Great review! I actually appreciate the red plastic as if I recall correctly, German vehicles were this color when leaving the factory unpainted.
True... German red oxide primer base coat! ^_^
Blackice200 yep I think the oxide primer was what they were aiming at but it does look a little odd at first and it shows up the flow marks a lot worse. the moulding more than makes up for it though!
Where do you buy that paint rack?
I am building this at present it is one heck of a kit and the fit is superb! I am not an expert of the King Tiger but this is a superb fit and it works so well! I will need to work out the primer colour - What do you think of Badger Red Primer?
James Charlton I'm building too and you're right the fit is amazing. by badger do you mean stynylrez? if it's anything like their white black or grey primer it'll be superb to apply but I haven't got any red so can't comment on the colour.
No worries I am going to use the grey primer on mine I think though I do have the red oxide Mission Models US on order so might have to give that a bash on Fred the test Train I have in the shed :)
The armor texture is on par with Tamiya, shame to cover it with zimmerit, might have to get two kits
Got mine just need to finish a Ferdinand and a Elephant before I can have a crack at it.
nice looking kit I might have to put that on the wishlist . Not wanting to upset anybody but 38 min for a inbox review is a tad to long . Just a thought
Mark Brumfield typically my other reviews run for 15 minutes but they're not for new releases. this was only the second review on UA-cam for this kit at the time so I went to town on it showing all the sprues and parts etc. but I will take the feedback on board. cheers, Jon
more of a wargamer than modeller but did build Tamiya etc kits long ago. When look at the quality here, sweeping claims that all things made in China are poor quality etc just look silly
