Oh my god. I thought i literally found EVERY SINGLE video of Don Rickles on youtube and I am so so happy and excited to come across this. I literally look like everyday for the last few years
Oh, well if that's the case, you may want to check out a youtube post titled "Welcome Home Mr. President and Mrs. Reagan". Rickles does a bit beginning around the 33 minute mark. The camera angle is poor but it's him, doing his thing. Lovely man, Don Rickles. I was lucky enough to work numerous times with Don, or Mr. Rickles as I called him. (Just kidding, called him Don) I remember being with Don on the day Johnny Carson died. That was a hard day. Yes, that was a hard day for Don. FYI.... I was Merv's video guy for many years. In fact I did the video for this episode of Merv and Don as seen in this post . We shot this at the TAV Celebrity Theater on Vine Street, in Hollywood. 1985 sounds correct. The set fits the time period. By the way, Merv was an awfully nice man too. Most honest guy I think I ever knew in this business. He was a peach. Loved Merv. "Song and dance man, that's me", he used to say. Merv and I worked together maybe 25 years or so. Generous man too. Okay, that;s it. Thanks. Best to you.
@@bobbybutton7068 amazing, btw... I can see this was a challenge for Don.. cause.. it seems they had a similar way of making laugh, maybe it happened near Don when he was with Merv in the show.. nevertheless.. amazing video.. he made his brain stretch , it's a good thing to watch.. 👍

Saw this in the livingroom @ night when it FIRST broadcast on TV. It had to have been on the weekend or when there was NO high school the next day; recorded on TDK-HG video cassette via SHARP vcr; eventually went NUTS trying to find it ten years later; thought I MAY have recorded the female Solid Gold dancers over it (SERIOUSLY skimpy loincloths which would flip up every time they shook their asses, BEST seen on Sharp VCR's ultra slo-mo ) … I thought this was the funniest thing EVER (I was right - Merv's voice intro proves it was the damn comedy highlight of the show's run) and i wondered why no one was flipping out over it. Now I see that indeed, people did find it absolutely hilarious as well; my older siblings and humorless parents almost wore out the tape! Very nice to to see this again - Nothing on Carson beats this - quality over quantity. Yes, Carson was the better "interviewer", interjected less, Merv was an effete intellectual snob at times (but an extremely likeable one, far friendlier and more affable to rich and peasant-fan alike). But this was MAGIC - so happy to see this last example of after soooooo loooooong….bybye powerfully talented television spontaneity.
Merv Griffin, with that introduction, made the mistake was not think that Don Rickles was an entertainer. Maybe it lasted 45 minutes or something. Television, he basically gave teasers to his act. Redd Foxx did the same thing with Sanford & Son. If he's funny on the show, why not see him in Vegas? So he better be damn good. Ppl go there to get away and forget about their problems. Don Rickles was one of the top performers for those areas. They don't call them entertainers for nuthin. This is a great episode btw. I like when Rickles improvises lol.
Merv: Don what are you gonna do if tomorrow you wake up with a full head of hair? Don: No problem Your gonna be in Court😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Oh don your Quick witted insult Sense of humor is what makes me smile everyday
First time I have seen Griffin. Only knew him from the Seinfeld episode where Kramer used a Griffin-set. Have to say I laughed a lot of Griffin here, very impressed. Must have missed something since some people hated him.
Rickles expertly did not allow Merv to portray himself as a big-shot. Merv had an obsession with indirectly conveying to the audience that he (Merv) was the brightest person on the stage. Rickles used his talent to keep Merv in his place, and to occasionally put Merv in his place. Rickles was an "A"-lister. Merv was not in Rickles' league, and yet Merv tried to make himself out to be top-dog. Rickles was not only far higher than Merv on the celebrity scale, Rickles was simply smarter than Merv, too. But Merv kept on trying. Rickles deserves credit for finding ways to use humor to take Merv down a peg. If Rickles wanted to, he would have left Merv as a stain on the stage. Merv was talented. Merv was smart. But Merv's ego was self-inflated. Rickles knew that, and Rickles handled Merv expertly. And as smart as Merv was, he was not smart enough to recognize that Rickles went easy on him.
These Guys Are Were GIANTS.!! What a time they Must Of have had.. Sinatra, Dino, Duke Wayne, Hope, Davis Jr, Carson, Merv.. There’re All Gone & Look at Junk We Have 2Day.!! & Sounds Like Merv. Didn’t Like Sinatra That Much
Quality is ok, sadly most of the Don Rickles videos on UA-cam are in very bad quality, like the one Joan Rivers hosted Tonight Show and Don Rickles visited her.
Merv was very awkward doing a talk show. Just weird..... Hard to believe Merv only pays Rickles 300 dollars for this appearance... now 300 was more then but still, Rickles was a low level draw then, didn't realize.
Didn't mind watching Merv back in the day he was ok but he's just terrible here He's trying to be funny and he's not and he's just stepping on Don's words and patter Guess he never watched Carson to see how a Master talks to a guest and helps him shine...Also why are they standing? Merv you couldn't afford chairs?
Merv was so freaking annoying and he thought he was funny! That's why Carson rest his soul was the g king of all tv hosts. there will never ever be another Don and Carson..they're dearly truly missed
hard to believe Don Rickles was name dropping and talking of his travels with Frank Sinatra ... quite the braggadocio , i don't think he liked Merv at all. Merv was cutting pretty deep on Rickles.

I've only just discovered Don Rickles today (I'm in UK). He's brilliant. He's unknown here.

Thankyou Mr Warmth for getting us thru this Pandemic 😉
I love when he tells Sinatra stories. I'd wish there was a big book compiled of them.
I love hearing the word "Broad" again!
I actually remember watching this when it was on. I recorded the audio on my cassette recorder (gone long ago!) I laughed to this a hundred times.
this is pure gold thanks for the umpload
Why was Merv even TRYING to get one up on Rickles?! No one was quicker than Don! Then Merv would get all sour-puss when Don tops him immediately!
Thank you for posting...the most I have laughed since the pandemic started
Another great find :)
Thank You Archy 👍👍 brilliant 👍👍
Oh plz....this performance just make my day! Soooo funny! What a character Don was! Good praise his soul...
This was sweet and a pure pleasure. Thank you.
Of all the interviewers dons had this was the best in my opinion

Damn bro the dog joke got me, the whole scheme🤣🤣🤣🤣
sit down Merv let don do what he dose best
I do have something to pull 🤣🤣🤣🤣😭
Merv Griffin... People either loved him or hated him. I fell into the second category, but thanks for uploading this great clip of Don Rickles!
First time I have seen Griffin. Only knew him from the Seinfeld episode where Kramer used a Griffin-set. Have to say I laughed a lot of Griffin here, very impressed. Must have missed something since some people hated him.
🌹🌹🌹❤️💕❤️R.I.P.
I thought Merv Griffin was annoying and Merv tried too hard to out do Don.The chemistry was between the two was not good.
don is don period!! the most amazing man in this world!! not jimmy kimel...
Totally hilarious.
Riquette is French from Haifa
“You’re an old gypsy broad from Spain” lmao
Hilarious from the start to the finish..

I TELL YA DIS . . . I love you Champion 🏆 Mickey Australia 🇦🇺
Jesus, Merv was bloody annoying. Just shows the genius of Carson.
“You’re black and i’m white…. 😬🤷♂️ “
🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣
God that look of Rickles at 18:45🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
300.00 usd to appear on a show is dreadful, even for 1985
i think it was a joke
Merv needed to take a clue from Carson and just let Don do his thing. His continual interruptions are annoying.

Merv compared to Carson and Letterman is like drinking non alcoholic beer..why
he was awful. he made his money on buying the rights to jeopardy, not on this show, that's for sure.
@@harpoon_bakery162 Brutally true. Merv has no legacy on this show. Zero. But he brought others that do. And this show is a fine example of that.
Merv was great interviewer
I loved it when Merv started talking French! Lol

The other thing! Merv, I think, truly thought he could match Don.... which is just pathetic.
The guy was a pistol.
Like 918 and my birthday is 9/18 :)
Merv couldn't hold a candle for Don, he tried to match the King of all Jews and failed miserably 😅🤣
Doesn't have same chemistry as with Carson
Merv was pretty good at setting up Rickles. Rickles was on fire in this video.
Quality is ok, sadly most of the Don Rickles videos on UA-cam are in very bad quality, like the one Joan Rivers hosted Tonight Show and Don Rickles visited her.
Merv was so unctuous with Don however he was part of the fabric
I found Merv SO ANNOYING!
If you want to see more check Johnny Carson show videos here on UA-cam.
Merv was very awkward doing a talk show. Just weird..... Hard to believe Merv only pays Rickles 300 dollars for this appearance... now 300 was more then but still, Rickles was a low level draw then, didn't realize.
I'd forgotten how bad Merv Griffin was at doing interviews.
The hair treatment dident work? I thought his hair would be as thick as micheal landons by the end of the segment

Mel is nothing compared to Rickles
Is this after Merv was already very rich? Merv was trying to show he is a world traveler and was really putting Don down...which was deserved.
Merv is smarmy and annoying..never liked him. Robert at 67.
robert kelly from ykwd brought me here. who gives a fuck
I liked Merv, but he reminds me of someone else who’s a bit of a Narcissist. Hmmm Trump Hmmm
@John Smith I would bet $10000 on it.
