good concept for an Attic, garage or storage room.not for a living space where you might have to go up and down a couple of times. awesome Idea and well built
It would be great in a garage or workshop to access a second story loft or storage area that isn't accessed often. A version could serve well as an emergency fire escape from a second floor.
@@hankbridges5055 how are the boards to thin? They are 1.5" thick. That's what a normal stair stringer is made with. The steps are attached with 2 door hinges per side. I think that is more than strong enough. You can always put heavier hinges on and I believe you could cut a stringer to fit on the wall side for extra support just in case.
Genius! I don’t know how many tiny house videos I have seen where the ladder is not comfortable to climb but there seems to be no room for stairs. Great idea!
I have an RV garage and needed storage space. I built a mezzanine at the end so the front of RV can go under mezzanine. I wanted/needed big-heavy steps and I didn't want step angle so the wife could load/unload holiday storage and other stuff. My neighbor told me he had seen the collapsible steps on UA-cam. Since my steps are "beefier" I used 2" lumber and installed a 400 lbs. power lift from Harbor Freight. The steps work fantastic and my wife can work the power lift so now I can play golf while she manages holiday decorations.... win/win!
Structurally, this is the best design. When you cut risers, you weaken the outside strength. With this design you get more strength with less lumber. The hinge on the bottom is also better structurally. You would have to rip the hing out of the side to break it- won’t happen. Doesn’t fold as close to the wall, but everything is a give and take.
That is awesome! Do you sell the plans to make this. I live in MN, were looking to buy a hobby farm, that’s in forclosure and in the middle of the master bedroom is a stairway to a loft and it takes up half of the bedroom. The used it to sleep in, but it would never fit my bed, so i’d Like to tear it down, and put either a library ladder that stores up against the wall, and when you need it, you just pull it out. Your idea though is better, so as far as the plan’s, I’d want to use the wood from the stairs, so let me know if you sell the plans. Thanks!
Vinny Gumbats SO, what about the thin handrails? The steps will collapse from use. The handrail vertical boards are too thin. That's an accident waiting to happen. Let's hear from a home-owners insurance man.
This is a fantastic design, as others have said the placement of the hinges appears to be stronger the way you designed it. I plan to build one of these to go on the side of my motorhome and create a rooftop deck!
Thanks for showing a more pragmatic way of building these at a low cost. This is much safer than the standard folding stairs, which I am replacing with your design.
The idea itself is great. But in real life so many possibilities and options to get hurt of it so much that anyone who spent time and efforts building such staircase will regret many times.
Can you do some more details, like how the outside stair Jack connects and the anti fall on the middle of the night ideas. Not to mention getting all those hinges to work insync..
Love it! I’m making some for my cabin as well. Mine is much steeper than yours, more of a ladder really. I’m copying your design for the most part. The gas assist springs are a great addition. How did you figure out which struts you needed for your stairs? Was it necessary to use the brackets to move the struts away from the left hand stringer and the bottom of the steps? Did you custom fab the brackets? I was hoping that I could use the ball mount brackets they have so as to keep the profile as low as possible. Ill post a video when I’m done with mine. Thanks again for your video!
Some of the greatest Inventions seem simple (but he's the one that's invented it)this is GRT for all those tiny houses that are out there....I love it...hope you make a few quid out of it brother....
That's genius... Especially for a little cabin with a loft....
Absolutely incredible.
Please could you show how you made the Folding Staircase! Awesome.
Here’s a tutorial to make a similar staircase: ua-cam.com/video/BcWt1_UYAag/v-deo.html

Great for a garage with an unused loft or free up ground floor space in tiny house.
I also think it would be awesome to have outside when it's time to clean the gutters... Then again, what would we do with latter's!
@@mokihaname I don't know. Particularly as I don't know what latters are.

This stairs fits perfectly to my folding House😎
lol :)
And to my blow up girlfriend
Very good, genius. Could you please share blueprints for this project. Thanks
It makes me want a folding elevator.
Beautiful woman and stairs ☺👌
The best idea I have seen in a while!
Cy Porter The attachments to the wall and steps are too flimsy. The side-boards are too thin. The steps are not secure and will collapse later.

Oh my goodness!!! That is the coolest thing ever. It’s stairs and wall art. WoW
Parabéns! Muito prática e bonita. Me parece segura também com o corrimão.
Fantastic and simple Idea. Love it.
Thanks for sharing

This is the perfect solution to a problem I have in my garage where I wanna build a loft thank you for sharing this is amazing
THAT is an excellent idea. Great for tiny houses. THANKS
Super! Stronger than the commercial ones too! And self buildable. THANK YOU for sharing!
I'm not easily impressed but dang that is outstanding!
I don't know why, this house seems big enough for a staircase.
Yeah, not only that but where it is is above a dead space occupied by the fireplace and wood pile. It's not saving any space.
Wow!! This would be great for a tiny home! Adding to my list of dream home designs ❤️❤️
Brilliant! Bravo! This just fixed a problem I have in my cabin. Thank you.
Imagine trying to go downstairs in the middle of the night half asleep and the stairs aren't there...
Jeramie T The stairs WOULD be there. You only fold them when you are downstairs.
@@clearlake3492right I forgot there is only ever one person in a house at any given time
@@jeramiet154 The last thing I expected was to end the day arguing about the health risks of folding stairs...
@@clearlake3492 lmao
There is a rail that stops you from falling if it is folded.
Now thats what I had more in mind for my shed/shop very very nice. Probably one of the best ones I seen yet. ❤
Ok, seriously, I ABSOLUTELY love this!! You’re creativity is amazing. Thank you for sharing!!!

Neat! I always hated the room a stair case took up. You remedied the situation with the folding stair case.
I’ve heard of a Murphy bed, but these Murphy stairs are even better!!
What a clever contraption.
Spectacularly good for tiny homes 👍👍👍

Wow, you tube got me with this one. Awesome execution. I love this idea.
Great Idea! Tiny House or any house, barn , etc. Genius
Great idea. Well executed. Could keep unwanted people from private places. ( In-laws away from snuggle corners and lofts)
They respect your house, don't need 'em. If don't, they'll pull 'em down.
Que idéia fantástica! Very good!
Thats a great idea!! And very well made too.
Thank you for sharing.
Bloody brilliant ideal for those with limited space. Also has added benefit in the form of security if it is locked from upstairs.
Great place to evade zombies. As far as I know, they can't climb walls. :)
@@largol33t1🤔Excellent point.

Cool show picks when you get it done.
Wow! Perfect for parents with little ones...can’t crawl/run up and down stairs without parent!
Wow love the precision of it, great idea.

Thank you very much for your great work it is great and for sharing many blessings ... Saludos desde Monterrey Mexico
Very cleaver but not sure how practical it would be in general. Perhaps in cases where the stairs actually impeded a common daily pathway.
I love the country music and your logpile. This is probably the most woodworker video I've ever seen.
That's amasing..!
