The only flaw with this setup is it doesn't show how you get onto the stairs from above when you are in the space above. Do you have to get on your knees and lower your leg down? Do you need to build a rail above? Easy enough to go up and down when you are still ON the stairs!

I was thinking about getting something like this, but my attic trap door pushes inward, pushes up into attic and a square of 12 inches to get in. So i don't think it will work.
