Just looking at those captures, the new transfer seems to contradict the original cinematography. There's a certain kind of "moodiness" to the blu-ray, because of the way the film was lit ; somewhat noir-ish. The shots look blown out on the 4K, to the point where the shadows aren't as pronounced, making it look more "modern". As someone with a love and appreciation of the art of cinematography, I find this sad... But as you said, Cameron is gonna Cameron. I shudder to think of how much the shadows in The Terminator will be nuked up to 11, when that eventually gets a 4K blu-ray.
You can see the boom mic at the beginning of your spanish blu ray that is not in the 4K when the film credits are showed. Also, the walls of the bathroom are white and not yellow that is in your spanish blu ray Also, if you turn off the hdr10, the colour looks more real that your spanish blu ray, lol.

Having watched this today, I cannot understand why people are making such a huge fuss. There's a few scenes here and there where the image isn't perfectly sharp. Occassionally there's some waxy skin if you're REALLY looking for it. There's fine film grain throughout the movie, so it's possible that people with players and TVs that remove noise are adding to that removal because I didn't see any scene where grain wasn't present. I'm really happy to have this in my collection, it beats the DVD hands down and I can finally do away with the DVD.

Much like Dracula (1979) which took decades to hit home video, while the almost B&W plagued all editions until recently?) or they were paid by Jim Cameron to promote his trash releases. Disney isn't the only one, though, to butcher classics. Look what WB did with Batman (1989/1992): removed the original mix audio from the 2010 Blu-rays and put modified ones in the 2019 editions (UHD and BD). Also messed with the video. Superman's 1978-onwards from Reeve also had bad luck with the current Blu-rays, and the recent UHD-4K had the original 70mm audio removed, which is now only available in the 2018 disc (avoid the 2013 re-release, which is 100% the same PQ, problematic, too). I am not blind to these facts and keep pointing them out. Like The Exorcist from 1973, the only good copy is the 1997 DVD. And don't start me on THE MATRIX (1999), it was never supposed to look like RELOADED.
The Spain Blu-ray looks pretty damn good. Defintely overall a better experience than the 4K. The color grade is the worst part of the 4K. I also found the 5.1 hits harder than the Atmos. The gunshots sound duller in the Atmos.
Having seen numerous comparison betweens the bootleg and the 4K, I don't know how you can make that assessment. The improvement on the 4K is night and day.
Aliens I received right away. The Abyss keeps getting moved to a later date. True lies well I'll get it down the road. I'm waiting for more Steelbook copies of The Crow and Prey.
Great video. I had the Spanish blu ray and it looked great. I don't have a 4k set up but I'd probably buy this on blu ray if it was released without the 4k disc. All the best .👍
WTF did they do to the colors?!? This is awful. The AI processing is VERY obvious, especially when you look at hair strands and skin. The AI usually adds details that weren't there and smooths out things that shouldn't be smoothed out.
Nice review. I've yet to watch mine, not sure if I'll do a review but I have just ordered the Spanish version. The Spanish BD-R discs, if yours is a BD-R aren't fake. I worked in the industry for 10 years as a QC Technician making BD's and DVD's I have a couple of Spanish BD's and despite the disc being a BD-R, what's on them is way to good a quality to be a rip from DVD. They are just MOD, Manufactured On Demand. I know it was a photo of your TV but what is your HDR set to on your player? I wonder if you have it set too high. Trevor

I have the Spanish version Will gat the 4k.The main problem is the problem of overfixing the film .Relying on DNR to fix everything and especially many don't have the skills in using DNR.Thats the real issues and still being a New Process .The 3rd issues is the Situation these past decades to only see A virtually Analogy Master that is burned into the Brains of everyone Thats why I keep both versions to see less DNR SCRUBBING in older versions. Many not all are Using DNR and other processes on AutoPiolt with not watching intensity before 3 years of Pandemic Fractures in Employment . With 4k and B&W a marriage made in Digital Heaven 😊
the DTS HD MA on the blu ray disc in the 4K set, blows awat the Dolby True HD on the 4K disc, IMHO, clarity, channel separation, sound stage and base response

The "Spanish Blu-Ray" is actually a copy from a DCP or jpeg2000. There's several movies that were remastered for Spanish TV that were bootlegged in this way._* *_I remembered something else, they used AI on these new The Abyss, Aliens and True Lies Re-Masters. I haven't seen your reviews on the other movies; or don't know if you have reviewed them. I think James Cameron did the blue/brightness hue in the 4k edition because he watches these movies probable in a VERY big screen. That's why he wanted to do that I think.
If you enjoyed it then awesome. It’s all about preference and I thought the bluray from Spain looked more in keeping with it but no one’s gonna tell Cameron how to grade and preserve his movies. Personally he’s a fucking idiot with the grading of the movies and botched release of the abyss but that’s my take and just happy it was worth it for you 😊

What you're saying doesn't make any sense. There would be zero benefit to completely scrubbing the film grain to only add it back in. That would actually remove detail, even with AI processing, that you would not retain afterwards. It looks great, no issues with contrast and the film grain looks completely natural.
@TroyUlysses It's noise reduction, not noise removal and then add it back in again. And it's been a part of film production and restoration for a very long time. The film grain in True Lies doesn't look unnatural and the picture looks great.

So from the comparison picture of this 4k realse so is the quality not good. The lighting on the face if Schwarzenegger is over produced.

It's awful like the other JC movies in 4K. Grain removal, AI processing, teal messing with night shots, brightness wrong... a disaster.

Color grading based on your picture i would take bluray over 4k
Thanks for the comparison. The Blu Ray looks much better. The 4K looks computer generated, overly sharp and smooth at the same time like a videogame.

I can’t get through true lies anymore even before the 4k release every action scene is clearly not Arnold & it’s not even well hidden.
