Moonfleet41 I'm actually going to view at a Bonneville, exactly like Penny's, this weekend. I'll be upgrading from an old KZ400 so I can actually enjoy riding the thing instead of tinkering with carburetors - fuel injection will be nice. It doesn't seem to be a popular color option, but I'm a fan of it. A few well selected accessories (specifically the right color) and it will stand apart from the crowd nicely. Thanks again.
Thanks! I came across the vid and your channel after recently purchasing my 2009 triumph America. Though it’s a different model, the process to do this was almost exactly the same and your thorough explanation not only gave me the confidence to try it, but also gave me a ton of knowledge. I have to say, I was sweating bullets balancing the tank like you showed but it totally worked. Thank you!!
Hi Juan, thank you so much for your kind feedback, and the very generous donation, that is very kind of you. Im glad the video was able to help you, and yes the procedure is pretty much the same. Have fun with your new bike, they are so much fun to ride and will always hold good value in the market that seems to love modern classics.. Ride safe and have a great weekend.. best regards. Del.
Thanks for this Del. Watching your videos has given me the confidence to make several modifications to my 2011 Bonneville. It's been like having a tutor available to coach me. Great stuff, and I always recommend your videos to other people.
david brown Hi David, thanks for your kind comments, im glad the videos can help you out, and we really appreciate the recommendation, spread the love aye.lol. . take care and ride safe... Del.
Thanks for the vid! Did this today on my '15 t100 black, which from day one, new, had a dodgy off-idle throttle response. Got worse after I went to Norman Hyde silencers, with loud popping on deceleration. I did it exactly like you said; oil drain plugs for the head, and a rubber stopper for the airbox hole. I left the solenoid in place and plugged the connector back into it. Success!! Fixed all the issues, pulls harder and smoother, and no check engine light either! Thanks friend!!
Thanks Derek.....make sure you have it remapped to run without the AI to get the best from it, as it can run a little hot once its removed... if you cant do that, just run it on Super unleaded..
Great instructions Del, it worked a treat! I have noticed that once modified this way you do get a slight clicking sound from the valves on the air pump underneath the tank, so I’ve ordered a resister to take the whole thing out 👌 Nice and easy!
Thanks buddy, glad it worked for you... if you're gonna run anything but the factory exhausts, you MUST re-map accordingly as well, but am sure you know that... good luck, Del
I've been following and enjoying your channel for a while now and came across this by chance after adding a Bonneville Newchurch to my modest collection. Brilliant as always. Best wishes.
Great video. I did this process back in early 2010 but removed the solenoid from under the tank. As you said, it can be replaced with a resistor of about 50 ohm 10 watt. A simple ceramic resistor does the job. Make sure you waterproof it all up and just secure it back in place. Never had a problem with it. I"d be surprised if they cost more than 2 quid in the UK. It doesn't get as cold in Australia as UK obviously but on the occasional cold mornings we have here I notice the bike does pop and miss a little bit for the first K or so.
Great step by step, covered all the salient points and nice clear visuals courtesy of that excellent new camera. Not only does the job take twice as long because of the filming, but 4 hours to edit and render in movie maker! Blimey. It's excellent that these videos encourage people to get stuck in and do their own work on their bikes. It's both enjoyable and, as you say, gets you closer to your machine. There's always something to do on those rancid days where a pleasure ride is just pointless, and you always know everything is tickety boo. I know EFI and ECUs are now a permanent thing, but I still like a carb! Having said that, if I could afford a new bike I wouldn't let the tech put me off! Hope we get to see a bit of the collective out this weekend, no doubt someone will a camera on if you do a zorst test!
Hi Peter, thanks for your kind comments my friend, getting settled in with the camera, think I may drop the resolution one notch to 720 as it's just too time heavy to do HD... I'll get it sorted as time goes on! You are right about EFI, it is here to stay... but tbh the best advance is that we can now download our own maps, buy the relevant leads and do it ourselves and power commanders for the non-adjustable bikes come with simple instructions! Long gone are the days of faffing about for days with ledar air corrector kits and endlessly swopping jets till you get it right! I guess we owe it all to the emission control pixies! Had some materials and tools to buy today for the next part of the project, so didn't take the bikes and on top of that they have spread a million tons of road salt over our whole area even though it's double digit temps., smacks of paranoia and back covering to me and all at the council tax payers expense! But we met up with the Duke Dyson and hatched out some plans for next year's Bulldog Bash... I'm sure you've heard the plans by now, be good to see you there mate! How goes the bike search? Anything taken your fancy yet? Cheers buddy, Del
Hi Delboy-I'm a new rider, just bought a 2015 Triumph Bonneville NewChurch EFI 1 month ago...only 200 miles on the bike. So this is my predicament.. I asked the Triumph Dealer where I puchased the bike to order me new slip on exhausts (Dominator Touring). I brought my bike in and they not only ordered the new exhaust pipes, they also incorrectly ordered the Airbox Removal Kit! When I called to check on the installation of the exhaust (which I had them do since I figured they would remap the computer there anyway), they told me they were just finishing up the airbox removal! I never ordered the ARK, and now I'm concerned about having to pay for labor and a custom map rather than the stock tune from the Triumph dealer. The technician I spoke to also told me that "Triumph doesn't recommend removing the air injection" and he doesn't recommend I do it at all. So now I'm at a crossroads..do I tell them to replace the original airbox, just install the new exhausts and remap the computer with the stock Triumph tune, or do I allow them to continue to attempt to tune my bike with the new airbox removal installed? I do not want to have any popping with deceleration, which I didn't have with the stock exhaust in place. I'm concerned that if they do not "feel comfortable" removing the AI, will I have problems with popping? Should I allow them to finish the remap, not remove the AI, then remove the AI myself after getting the bike back? I would greatly appreciate you advice here. Your videos are amazing, and they have motivated me to do work on my own bike in the future... Cheers, Myles
+Myles Berg Hello Miles, good to hear from you buddy... and congratulations on your new bike... the Newchurch is a really cool looking variant.. Im very surprised that they ordered and then went ahead and started doing the ARK, if you did not ask for it, then they have no business doing it....and they should return your bike to the state YOU want it in.. never forget "They work for YOU" and you call the shots... As long as you can get them to agree that you didn't ask for it, and accept it as their mistake, then im sure they'll restore it to factory for you or what ever other setup you choose... Once you can get that all agreed with them, then for me I would go with the new pipes, a K&N air filter inside the factory airbox, and leave the AI in place and ask the dealer to install the 'universal map'... this is the setup we run on the Scrambler and its just fine.. With regard to 'popping' the whole process only happens because the AI system ignites leftover fuel residue that leaves the motor unburned.. and effectively "scavenges" out all the last bits of burnable gas so they are spent...so contrary to popular belief, the popping DOES go on inside your standard factory exhaust, you just done hear it because the silencers are so effective.....then once you fit open pipes you simply start to hear it for the first time...but rest assured it has always been there happening silently since the day it left the factory...If you remove your AI, then there is nothing to vaporise the leftover fuel, so it just passes out the end of the pipes unburned, not what the tree huggers want, but it will always sound less aggressive and make you think its running better....the state of the mixture and how well its running is unaffected by the AI....that just deals with leftover gases after the motor has passed them into the exhaust.. The last and most important point, as much as many people do the AI removal, and they seem happy with the result.. you also have to then take out the O2 sensors, this is vital to prevent overheating because the O2 sensors sniff the exhaust gasses AFTER they have been vaporised by the AI, and if the AI is removed, then the O2 sensors will detect the leftover fuel residue and tell the ECU to 'lean out' the mixture a little to compensate...an this will make your motor run very very hot and possibly do damage.... so if you do take the AI out.. then also remove the O2 sensors, and install a custom map.......All this is why I just left mine well alone...I have open pipes, O2 sensors and AI in place, but a K&N filter in the factory airbox.. the bike runs really well, and gives me 52mpg, also the power is never going to be any better no matter what you do as its a donkey, not a race horse.... Hope that helps you decide buddy, good luck with it.. Del.
+Delboy de Reuck: Del-Thank you very much for your quick and thorough response. Last night I was thinking about doing what you just recommended--restore the original airbox, leave the AI in place, and install the K&N filter which I saw you demonstrate on UA-cam. You make everything look so easy, and I'm not afraid to do these simple mods myself. I'm assuming the dealer will install the standard Arrow 2-into-2 tune without any issues with all of the original parts in place once they simply leave the new open exhaust pipes in place. I'm just hoping the popping on deceleration won't bother me, even though I now understand that this isn't harmful in any way. I guess I could always do the AI removal & O2 sensor removal later on if this bothers me. If you would consider doing an O2 sensor removal video I would love to watch it. Again, THANK YOU for taking the time to write back. I'm a big fan and I promise to keep watching..
Only been watching your posts for a couple of months this is my very first response to a UA-cam video find your videos very interesting keep up the good work :)
Thank you kindly my friend, judging by your user name are you mayhaps, in the job? Always great to have you guys aboard if you are, your opinions and insight are always welcome... thank you kindly my friend, much appreciate you watching, take care and ride safe, Del & Penny
Just as an added comment. I installed some after market, cheap (£99) slash cut cans from Maverick Customs in the UK (ps--took ages to deliver--2 weeks!!) but I needed a re-map on a 2010 EFI Speedmaster. Triumph in Washington Sussex did this for £24 inc vat and mentioned the AIS delete--parts are available from Norman Hyde website for £20 if you want the "proper" parts.
Hi Delboy. Recently bought a T100 and started farkling about :) Ofcourse I ran into the AI-removal because of the "popping" in the exhaust. Your great VID gave me the confidence to remove it myself. Thanx for that :) Keep up the good work. Grtz from Holland. Martin.
Mod managed! Thanks so much for posting this, I was able to keep the tank on (secured by bungee cords on both sides) and get this mod done in about an hour. Keep up the great Bonnie videos!
I'd already ordered the kit from British Legends which included the resistor plug. Very useful to see all the parts to remove. It was a little fiddly on my 2008 Speedmaster as the tank is a bit more ungainly but it went fairly smoothly thanks to this video.
Great video! I really hope you find a way to keep uploading in 720 or 1080p to youtube, it's really worth it! It's great to be able to watch this in full screen without having a pixelated mess... No more 480!
Sure thing mate, that is our intention... but 1080 is a step too far it takes seriously too long and hammers the storage space on the laptop... but will keep going and get them right in the end! Thanks for watching mate, Del
Hello, Great video! Helped me a lot. I recently completed the AI removal and noticed my 14’ t100 was missing the coil from the bracket near the solenoid. Is this something I should worry about? I bought the bike used and have not had a problem with it.
Very informative video mate....My Thruxton popes like a machine gun when changing down (got Dominator pipes on It ) I dont mind a bit of a pop but this was starting to get on my nerves , so I just did you AIR mod bought the kit from Newbonneville for around $24 followed your video and everything went smoothly . Havent had a chance to try It out yet , poring down with rain . So yeah a big thumbs up mate.
+Mar Vel Hi Buddy, that should stop it popping almost completely. and it pays to have it remapped too if you get a chance, just to cool it down a bit, they run way too lean from the factory just like Harleys..
Just did this on my carbs Bonnie, its an easy process as Delboy says and even easier on the carbed Bonnie as there's no solenoid or wires to worry about, the only additional bit of kit needed is a blank for the vacuum pipe that's removed, or you could fit a Scottoiler at the same time.
Great informative video. Personally, I kind of like the little pop, but would be willing to for go the pop in order to be able to change spark plugs with out removing the fuel tank. Thanks again. I have already purchased two brass plugs to seal the holes left from the air injector tubes.
Just one but important correction, the pump/resistor in it is not silent! the irregular clicking noise of the resistor when the bike is still or riding really slowly, drove me crazy for couple seasons, then I realized it is caused by this junk I left there like Delboy in place. It made me finally install the resistor to the connector.
Thanks so much for this very easy video to follow. I'll be doing the same to my TB America EFI. I was wondering if any specific year/engine size Micra sump plug, and what size chair leg thingy do I need to rob? 😎
I also absolutely love the unique range of exhaust sounds my Thruxton produces. Without them an important part of its character would be gone for me, why some people decide to remove them is a little bit of a mistery to me ;) just my personal opinion of course
Tighten to feel, mark, and check every so often. Oh, and if you think you might get confused about reassembly, take a quick picture with your camera phone before you take it off and put the item on the bench. Nice step by step. I've seen some also do this with the airbox removal w/ K&N pod kits. While you've got the tank up, if you were wanting to change the covers (colours and shapes) might as well do it as well. Why lift the tank twice?
Thank you so much. Great video and explanation. I did exactly as you have here, my bike differs some. I have an 07 Bonnie and would like to know if I need to adjust my carbs now that I have done this?
you are the Man!!! im want to be like you when i grow up!!! Thank you for your videos they are really helpful. I recently fulfilled my dream of owning a Bonnie and i already have a stack of parts waiting for me to install. Watching your videos will make my life just a little bit easier when I'm working on my baby. Thanks again Delboy!!!
Just thought about time I commented on your excellent, informative, practical and to me, always sensible effective mods. This is more of a general comment as I have been mainly watching your great videos whilst working night shifts. Helps to while away the hours, fantastic. I have recently turned my Dragstar 1100 into a Bobber, plus other projects like keeping a 30 year old Honda on the road as a daily ride and making my own HiFi speakers. Only wish I'd have recorded the projects also :( Keep it up mate...as always superb. Hope to comment again.
hi thanks so much for your instruction on a I removal , you gave me confidence to get stuck in and do mine successfully but threw engine management light on. also fuel pump not priming on ignition on . now sorted the bike is 2012 speedmaster , all same components slightly different location than your scrambler,. ive always had Harleys this is my only other make and well pleased with it .thanks again ...pez in leeds..west yorks.
Glad you got it sorted Pez, if you leave the plug out on the pump it will throw up the light, but it sounds like you've had it re-mapped and it's fine now... well done and thanks for watching the video, ride safe, Del
From France by Patrick thank you a very good teacher my english is in the middle but how you film we can understand every things thank you. I take off the same of you but in France we will have to bring the motorise for controls so I shall put them on for this controls and after take them off after. Thank you again
you're a legend mate! Watched all of your videos about the bonneville and the scrambler. Would've been lost without it. Also very likeable style of moderating and such, thanks!
Wow HD & the new camera is a killer combination! I was going to pull the AIS from my DRZ, but swapped out the neighbourhood waking FMF exhaust for the standard Suzuki one and solved the popping problem as well :o)
Thanks mate, 1080 HD is way too labour intensive to do all the time and takes up too much space on the laptop! Gonna tone it down a bit, but try and keep the quality...!
Very informative and straightforward! I'd like to do this to my 2006 Speedmaster, so is the process any different with a carb engine? Does it have the solenoid or anything else that should be left in place, or can I just take the whole thing out?
Following on from my last post a few moments ago I forgot to say that at the moment I have the standard Bonny exhausts but am planning to fit the TECPART 2into2 stainless system.Regards David.
I purchased a 2012 Thruxton on which someone who did not watch your video attempted a poor air injection removal. I appears that maybe they did not use anti seize on the bolt used to replace the air injector pipe. Any recommendations on how to remove these bolts?
Hi i have 2015 triumph America only left cylinder firing, good spark and fuel spraying thru injector. Changed the fuel filter changed spark plugs. If pick up coils fails there will be no spark rite ? Ignition coils still original bike only has 1890 miles on it
You say you have spark... is that seen at the tip of the spark plug?.. if you have fuel, is the spark plug wet?.. simple diagnostics mate, if you have fuel and spark, it will fire.. once again.. maybe check compression.
Hi Delboy, thanks for the helpful videos. Please could you do a video on checking sensors? I reckon my speed sensor has gone on my '12 Tiger explorer and it would be great to understand how these can be tested. Hope it's just a job for a multimeter!
I have enjoyed watching your presentations for Triumph. I thank you. I have a 2009 T100 which I am converting to a high end customized scrambler The air box has been removed and pipes replaced with scrambler style pipes from BC. I also bought the Power Commander V from BC. Is the PC V to be used in place of a remap from the Triumph dealership? Any comments are appreciated. James
Just picked up a new 2015 Triumph Bonneville! If the air injection is disabled, what will the O2 sensors do? Will they cause the mixture to go too lean? To be specific, with no other changes, will removing the air injection cause harm to the engine?
I recently got around to completely removing Puff the Magic Dragon from my 2010 SE. Conversion kits from Bella Corse and British Customs saved time by providing all the little parts needed including a nifty plug-and-play resistor. The post-op test run was made heading west toward Minnesota and the late afternoon sun. Maybe I just imagined a slight improvement in performance.
Thank you for the video! I have a 2003 Triumph America that is carbureted and I could not find an electrical connector to the that manifold/solenoid thing that the tubes connected to. Is that normal?
Hey great looking bike ...question I have a 2002 triumph America I have a bolt at the bottom of the clutch cover that will not tighten and I'm leaking oil out of it ...what is the fix for this and what size are those bolts thanks so much love your channel
Great vid.....but newbonneville.com does sell a dummy resistor for 20 bucks to plug in to the pump to fake the ecu out. Pump gone and ais gone. Clean bike. You did a very nice job. Thanks for your effort!!!
Fabulous video. Thanks for doing it. I know I am late to the party but can I ask a question? Is this the same to do on a 2014 Triumph Bonneville America 865 fuel injected?
Thanks Ted, we've got 3 more sub-projects on the Triumph before it's ready to rumble and besides, I'd prefer to let a bit of the salt wash away first... it's damn near an inch thick in places and it's not even cold lol!
Looking at doing this over the winter. Does Del (or anyone else reading) know if the SAI can be turned off in something like TuneECU or whatever tuner you folks are using? I believe there is an option to disable o2 sensor, but not sure about the SAI. Would be cleanest way to remove the entire system without fussing around with resistors.
I wasn't expecting to see any vids for awhile as last I watched you said you were on 12 hr shifts i thought. If so you're my hero, when do you sleep? (hopefully not at the wheel of your bus LOL) Seriously, I learn a lot watching you. I'm doing my fork tube oil & brake fluid & pads this weekend on my Softail myself after re-watching your earlier vids on the subjects of course. This makes me wonder about removing all the smog crap on my new Sportster that's only required in California
Hi Robert, firstly you should definitely remove all the smog crap, the bike's aren't designed at the factory to run with it, it's just to please the tree huggers... well done on taking on your own work, I think it brings you closer to your bike and broadens the joy of ownership... I've always believed there is more to owning a bike than just riding it! Please be sure to let me know if you get stuck or need any help... and as for sleep... I shot it when I got home from work and loaded it through the night whilst I cat napped lol! ... we fit it all in somehow or another! Thanks for watching and good luck, Del
Hi. Just done this job on 2008 efi thruxton, popping is gone, but check engine light is come in. Valve is connected, only hoses and tubes eliminated. What’s the problem it may be?
Really great "how to video". You explain in a very clear and understanding manner for technically challenged people like I :-)! Love the part where you show you don't really need a resistor. Makes it a lot doable for me... Thumbs up! Will give this a try tomorrow.
I believe this is a "must do" if you've decatted your bike or replaced the exhaust outright. At least, it has been on every other bike I've removed the PAIR or SAS system from.
Very helpful tutorial, thanks for posting this! In the comments below, I saw you and another poster talking about an air box drain tube trick, and was trying to follow it, as it sounds like something I should consider doing; but I didn't fully understand what you're saying the procedure involves. Any follow up tips to help me perform the procedure you were describing? Thanks!
HI mate, without me trawling through every message here, can you be more specific, "air box drain tube".....did you perhaps mean 'Airbox Inlet Snorkel'? there is a proceedure you can perform, is that what you meant mate..?
Question? I took my scrambler for a run, gone for a good hour. Stop for about 15 min had it off. Then started to go again when i gave it gas, it seemed to want to cut out when i gave it gas did this a couple times and then everything was fine. Just wondering what could be going wrong?
Hi mate. Are the "air pump" tube holes covered enough not to take any water in? Maybe add a short hose to both and run to more secure place. Just my 5cent without seeing the bike. Cheers.
Hi mate, The whole item lives right up tight at the top of the fuel tank tunnel and is bolted to the top tube. its even above the level of the air intake, so if i get water that high up ill have bigger issues like having just fallen in a river..lol the eventual intention is to remove it all together once i get past all the initial work and get the bike back on the road... cheers mate. Del.
Love all your videos. Last winter I followed all of your “Penny’s bike” vids which got me through all of my mods. What are your thoughts about removing the “carburetor” on the Bonneville? The one on mine is just for show and I’m trying to decide if I should take mine out or if I should leave it. Either way I need to remove it to clean it up and replace some of the hardware. Anyway, thanks again and keep up the great work!
Another amazing video del. Just got a question if you could answer me please? I cant find a video on it from you. I want to clean my throttle bodies whilst on the bike. I was thinking brake cleaner spray? Soak a micro fibre cloth with brake cleaner or white spirit? And get inside them?
Interesting vid....love your work. Can I ask you a question....I have a brand new T100 Bonnie....600mls on the clock. I have started to notice a sort of tapping sound bit irregular....starts around 30 secs after a cold start....so not a hyd chain tensioner...would hear that right away I would think. It goes on for maybe 1 min and disappears as the higher cold start RPM stabilises.....I hear this with the engine idling as it warms while I put my jacket on. On the first service a few days ago I took the bike on my trailer so I could demo it on a cold start....they had no idea and said as long as it goes forget it....not what I want to hear....if my engine makes a tapping sound I want to know what it is. Any ideas?
Where is it coming from, it could be a hundred different things, the first job is to locate the source of the tapping... then you can consider what it may be causing it!
Will be following this video to do this mod on my bonneville. Question. What about the ECU after this mod? I have been told that with ECU bikes the check engine light will stay on until SAI is turned off? All I have is aftermarket slip ons.
Hi great video s , will you be doing a fuel booster plug installation on a 2016 900 scrambler air cooled , if not where is it located on this bike I do would be helpful
Awesome vids. Question for a novice for a carbed 2007 america would the tank removal be similar? Are there extra steps involved for a carbed version and last would if I was to without removing the tank remove the air injections and plug them pretty much leave the air injection cylinder attached under
I guess the last question released is do I really need to remove tank if I don't Ming leaving the cylinder underneath as long as I detach all the rubber hoses and plug the holes
Pretty much the same procedure, if you leave the pump in place under the tank, you will probably hear it puffing away when the engine runs... if that doesn't bother you, or you can't hear it, then it should be fine... but it doesn't take 5mins to lift the tank up and tidy it up underneath... do a proper job, you know it makes sense!
this I need to do on my gw250 and I think this is on my bandit but it does not pop with the Yoshimura exhaust can. would a 2002 bandit 1200 have a pulse air injection reaction on it? don't matter start tearing down this week
Great video, as always. Couple of questions: what size is the bung for the airbox? Would M25 fit, cause I happen to have one. Also, do I need to remap after removing the AI? I've got a Triumph Bonneville Spirit 2015 EFI.
any thoughts on doing a video for removing the air baffle on the right side of the airbox or did you leave that when you did this and the filter and breather plate? I have a 15 scrambler and don't have a great resource beside triumphtwinpower instruction sheet on their site
I did the air injection removal on my carbureted 2007 Bonnie yesterday. While I had things torn apart I checked my plugs and noticed the signs of it running pretty lean. The plug was fairly white. Will removing the AIS richen my mixture to an appropriate level, or should I get a jet kit and bump up the fuel a bit? I bought it used and it already had a K&N and upgraded slip ons. I have no idea if the previous owner did any carb adjustment after the modification. So, should I re-jet it now, or ride it for a bit and see if the AIS takes care of the issue?
+Ken Jones Hi Ken, on a carb'd bike, removing the AI will make no difference to the mixture, as it is a simple system of buring un-spent gases AFTER they leave the engine... to richen up your mixture, you will need a jet kit and coupling that with your K&N filter, means you'll add a few ponies too!
Awesome Video. Where did/do you find the plugs @ 8:36? Hope all is well and I enjoy watching your videos here in the San Francisco Bay area. Tell Penny Hi! Smiles~William
Hi William, I got the sump plugs at the local Nissan main dealer here in England....just went to the parts counter and asked for two sump drain plugs...cost less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks... hope that helps..all the best buddy... cheers, Del, (Penny says Hi!)
Do you by chance have a DIY on rejecting? Am thinking of upgrading the exhaust and not sure if rejecting is even required on a 2015 Bonnie Standard? Kindly advise at your earliest convenience. Many thanks in advance.
+Ferdinand Novilla Hi Ferdinand, "re-jetting" is the term used for changing the jets inside a carburettor, the Bonneville doesn't have carburettors, it's fuel injection....those things you see in the motor are not carbs, they may look like them, but they are 'fake', they are in fact "EFI Injector bodies", made to look like carbs to keep the 'retro' look of the bike... If you want to fit an upgraded exhaust to your bike, then you will need to take it back to the dealer and have the ECU 'Remapped', this means to re-program the computer that controls the fuel delivery, they will usually charge no more than about £35 for this service and it takes about ten minutes while you wait.. Hope that helps you sir.. all the best. Del.
Hi Del/Penny hope you're on the mend Del you've been in our prayers mate! this bonny and steps to remove the SAI, is it the same on the legend/adventurer/T-bird... Cheers
@@stu82pendous Check the joints on those cans Stu, if they are not sealed, it will allow air to be drawn in on deceleration and create the popping... if you seal them then you'll find it will decrease a great deal of even stop all together..
great vid, footage and directions. Keep them coming. I did the AIR, Snorkel removal and put the bell mouth with k&n filter, 2-2 shorty predators and 2-2 arrow map from the dealer. At 2-2.5 rpm the bike feels sluggish/not enough gas going through. What do you recommend to fix that? I contacted TTP and they recommend tune 3 for my 2015 t100 and removal of airbox and o2 sensors. Do you have any recommendations to fix my issue? Thank you and keep those videos coming.
Hi buddy, listening to what you've explained, you've deon what could best be termed as 'half a tuning job', please don't take that as a criticism, or a slight on your choices, but the factory tunes the bike to work perfectly with the airbox, inc. all it's contents, baffle, snorkel, etc., and the O2 sensors are there to adjust the fueling as the exhaust dictates .... on a hot day, your exhaust will have different residues than on a cold day, the O2 sensors will tell the ECU what is happensing and will adjust fueling by monor amounts to give you a smooth pull through the gears..... the minute you delete the O2 sensors, you 'blind' the ECU to any atmospheric fluctuations, so it can only fuel as last instructed before you removed them ..... if ou install a new 'fixed' map, then it had better be good enough to fuel at all revs, all throttle openings, and all atmospheric conditions... this means it needs to be pretty rich all of the time! But then if you leave the air box in place, it needs to account for this too, so I would go back to the tuning guys and , perhaps, consider having it set up properly on a rolling road, as anything else is guesswork... sorry to be vague buddy, but I really don't understand why everyone spends so much time, money and heartache tuning a 50hp bike, which can still be over taken by a 2 stroke 250... If you ask most people to be honest, they don't have a technical reason as to 'why' they've done all this tuning, they just feel that they shold cos everyone tells them too... you won't make that engine develop more power of any significant level without bigger pistons, better cams, and some cylinder head porting too and even then, you won't make it produce more than about 70bhp... which is pretty pathetic for a 900cc bike... face it buddy, it's a cruiser, all you need is a glorious sound and a smooth running engine, and all I've done to Penny's Scrambler to achieve this, is a TEC 2-in-1 exhaust and an Arrow map from the dealer - job done - the rest is stock - I hope that helps mate, perhaps have a think before you throw too much more money at it !
Dear Del: Really great work what you are doing, i recently buy my new triumph scrambler 900 2014 and i was reading a lot of modifications that i can do on my bike. Now i have 800 milles and i will do my first service, but i' m going to install ARROW exaust on it, i want to know if i can install the AIR BOX REMOVAL KIT and the AIR INYECTION ELIKINATION KIT, both. Do i will have problems with iddle Installing these 3 items?? Arrow 2 on 1 Air box removal kit with k&n filters Air inyection elimination kit Please let me know any inconvenient that you know about it, or any extra work or kit to do on my bike to increase power or have better performance. Best regards and thanks for all your videos.
Hi Andrés, good to hear from you.. Glad to hear that you got a Scrambler.. The Arrow exhaust is a good idea, but the Air Box Removal is A VERY BAD IDEA... good on the Bonneville or Thruxton, but they do not perform well on the Scrambler, the heat from the exhaust causes the air inlet to breath hot air and LOOSE POWER, also removing the air injection does not give power...it only makes it look a bit cleaner....so for now, i would recomend to fit a K&N filter inside the facotry air box for best power, and the Arrow exhaust with the Arrow EFI injection remap.... this will make the bike sound fantastic and ride really nicely... Hope that helps.. good luck and ride safe.. Del.
Hi Del. Would there be any concern removing the AI before I fit new exhausts? My new Togas are arriving in a few weeks but I already need to head under the tank to do some other work so figure I might as well do it now unless of course it's harmful doing so while the stock exhausts are still fitted. I'm assuming it's harmless, but then again far too many lessons are learned via the assumption route. Thanks as always
Sure thing buddy, it's always best, if you can, to get Triumph to just to the quick re-tune on the ECU, it only takes 10mins and they usually charge about £30, then you can put on practically any pipes you want and dump the AI, also getting the map done first is fine, because the will still run ok with everything standard!
Great video's mate. I'm about to tackle this job and the 02 sensor removal as well. I have a 2011 efi speedmaster and I'm hoping its pretty similar to your scrambler. I'll let you know how I go.
Only 5 minutes into the video and it's easily the best explanation of mechanical disassembly and repair. Casual, but instructive. Great stuff.
Thanks buddy, thats very kind... glad you enjoyed it..!
Hi David, good to hear from you, and thanks for the great feedback, am glad it worked out for you!
Removed my air injection system off my 2014 Triumph T100 last night. It was easy to do thanks to your excellent video!!
Glad it helped mate.. and good to hear you're enjoying your Triumph
Just did this on my 2012 Bonnie Black, and thanks to you, no check engine light & no more popping! Thank you for the step by step process. Thank you!!
I’m trying this on my Speedy 🤙
Thanks Karl!
Just done the removal on my Thruxton. This man knows what he is talking about ! Thanks a lot, would definitely watch you again.
I've looked at a number of videos for this procedure and this is by far the best. Clear, calm. Thank you.
JUST what I've been looking at the 'PAIR' system on a little XR...
Good to see this version of the principal here!
Thanks both
Just as an added comment.
Martin.
Thanks Martin, glad it could help, and thanks for taking the time for letting us know... ride safe, all the best, Del
Mod managed! Thanks so much for posting this, I was able to keep the tank on (secured by bungee cords on both sides) and get this mod done in about an hour. Keep up the great Bonnie videos!
Thanks for this Delboy - really helped, and all worked fine. Also, knowing I needed to get a step spanner made it a much smoother job.
I'd already ordered the kit from British Legends which included the resistor plug. Very useful to see all the parts to remove. It was a little fiddly on my 2008 Speedmaster as the tank is a bit more ungainly but it went fairly smoothly thanks to this video.
Great information to know on this AIS system, your instructions are appreciated. Good job brother, coming right along. Ride Safe.....
Thanks buddy, didn't find it covered very comprehensively on the net, so thought it would be a good video... heat shields next....!
Great video Del . And the camera is working great deffinetly can see a big difference . Thank you for the upgrade
Thanks mate, really appreciate the feedback, we've been amazed ourselves, especially with the low light resolution... much improved! Thanks mate, Del
Excellent video. This was a lot cheaper than buying a kit. Looking forward to your other videos!
Hello,
Great video!
Im removing the air injection on a 08 also the air box, Im not sure on how much of the vacuum system to remove, any help is appreciated. thanks Chris.
This is the next job on my 2015 Newchurch, good video and well explained
Well explained by a highly skilled bike technician excellent video Dellboy
Great informative video. Personally, I kind of like the little pop, but would be willing to for go the pop in order to be able to change spark plugs with out removing the fuel tank. Thanks again. I have already purchased two brass plugs to seal the holes left from the air injector tubes.
Good choice, brass will look great
It was easy to do and the popping is gone. Thanks Delboy.
Great video - I'll be tackling this modification tomorrow and am much better prepared thanks to this.
Thanks Jason, good luck with it mate, hope it all goes well, feel free to drop me a line if you need to.. cheers, Del.
Thanks so much for this very easy video to follow. I'll be doing the same to my TB America EFI. I was wondering if any specific year/engine size Micra sump plug, and what size chair leg thingy do I need to rob? 😎
I seem to be one of the few people who likes the burbling and popping noise...😞
Was what made me really want the bike, the rumble and pop!
You're not alone. Mine pops like crazy and I like it.
It's ok, I love my burbling and popping too
I also absolutely love the unique range of exhaust sounds my Thruxton produces. Without them an important part of its character would be gone for me, why some people decide to remove them is a little bit of a mistery to me ;)
just my personal opinion of course
@@sumcherry I'm loving mine as it defines part of bike. With full exhaust those pops turn into flames at night
A very interesting article on modifying the Triumph. Thank you very Del? I iwll now go and look at the rest of your posts. Jim
Thanks Jim, welcome aboard mate!
Thanks again Delboy!!!
i notised after bout 24 mins of filming , the shots became more pro somehow!! ha ha NO!! you just the wait of the day. love you two . see ya!!.
ha ha thanx love ,and you to!!
Hello mate, great video, did the mod today using your video. Thanks for posting for us mechanical challenged chaps.
+4monkeys23 Glad the video could help you my friend... enjoy your bike and keep safe through the winter !
👍❤️🙏.
Benefits/ Advantage of removing AIS system on Triumph Bonneville?
I’m new to the world of the Bonnie and I am loving your videos. Well done!
Well explained by a highly skilled bike technician.Good video
hi thanks so much for your instruction on a I removal , you gave me confidence to get stuck in and do mine successfully but threw engine management light on. also fuel pump not priming on ignition on . now sorted the bike is 2012 speedmaster , all same components slightly different location than your scrambler,. ive always had Harleys this is my only other make and well pleased with it .thanks again ...pez in leeds..west yorks.
Glad you found the video helpful Patrick, thank you for your kind words, it's much appreciated... ride safe there!
you're a legend mate!
Great vid, I'm gearing up to do the same on my Speedmaster, once the warranty expires!
Very well filmed and narrated thank you.
Good work and lovely to see Penny back x
Great video !
I did it in my 2013 Bonneville and it works perfect !
Thanks for the video
Best regards from Brazil
Well done Pes, im glad it worked for you... ride safe my friend.. Del.
Very instructional! Lovely job! And also Kudos to Pen's camera work after a glass of wine! Ride safe
I'm glad I found this video because it made an easy solution to a problem after installing my BC Bomber exhaust. Great Job, Thanks a bunch
What was the issue you were getting after the install? planning on getting a pair myself.
Pretty much the same yes. !
Nice and really well explained Del, look foreword to the run test!
+Jamie VanDalen You cannot turn it off Jamie, just remove it all together, then do your remap..
What about the two spark plugs things that bolt into the headers of the mufflers ?
Just bolt in a m12 with a washer and unplug them ?
Thanks for your response. Have a good one.
I had no engine light when i removed mine, just remapped the ECU (at the dealer for free) to work with my universal open megaphones...!
Cheer mate. Will do
this I need to do on my gw250 and I think this is on my bandit but it does not pop with the Yoshimura exhaust can. would a 2002 bandit 1200 have a pulse air injection reaction on it? don't matter start tearing down this week
Great tip with the Petrol Tank thanks very much for your vids mate
No problem 👍 Thank you for your support.
Great video, as always. Couple of questions: what size is the bung for the airbox? Would M25 fit, cause I happen to have one. Also, do I need to remap after removing the AI? I've got a Triumph Bonneville Spirit 2015 EFI.
Hi Del Boy, I'm loving your videos. How about doing one showing how to check the valve clearances on your scrambler.
Brian McCarthy Currently I am only at just under 4000 miles, and not due till 12k miles, but when the time comes, will be a video for sure!
any thoughts on doing a video for removing the air baffle on the right side of the airbox or did you leave that when you did this and the filter and breather plate? I have a 15 scrambler and don't have a great resource beside triumphtwinpower instruction sheet on their site
Hi quick question! can air injection system can cause one cylinder not to fire. I have fuel going on a good spark ? its 2015 triumph america
No, air injection has no bearing on combustion.. if you have spark and fuel it should fire, if it's not, then check for compression..!
Sorry me again with another question, do u know if this could be done , only with a re-map?? I mean disable this SAI ??
Afternoon Del can i remove the Ai valve on my 2009 Triumph America EFI without having to remap
Thank you very much! I appreciate your videos too!
Cheers
Hi Stu.. Thank you for your kind prayers, we really appreciate that.! With your bike, do you have Air Injection on your Thunderbird then mate?.
Dear Del:
Really great work what you are doing, i recently buy my new triumph scrambler 900 2014 and i was reading a lot of modifications that i can do on my bike.
Arrow 2 on 1
Air box removal kit with k&n filters
Air inyection elimination kit
Please let me know any inconvenient that you know about it, or any extra work or kit to do on my bike to increase power or have better performance.
@@Moonfleet41 Good to know. Thanks!
Great video's mate. I'm about to tackle this job and the 02 sensor removal as well. I have a 2011 efi speedmaster and I'm hoping its pretty similar to your scrambler. I'll let you know how I go.
spidercam3 Good luck with it mate... make sure you do the re-map and the rest is easy !
