    I can tell you from experience with the sameYSS on my CB1300. Amazing shocks. After 20K I saw signs of leakage. My garage contacted Vmoto and they sent are replacement in a week and so far I've one another 30K with no problem. Dellboy is 100% right!

    I have to admit. being a long time auto mechanic. I've still always been sketchy about working on my bike due too the repercussions of a mistake on a bike Vs a car. That being said I still like watching the old simple videos you make. Like you said we are talking 1 socket and 4 bolts, but what I like is all good info and the small tips you don't get in a service book.

    Hi Del and Penny, very useful series, i am a reasonable HOME mechanic , but every time you guys do a job that is regarded as routine maintenance I pick up some great new tips and advice.The new style is subtly better, more pro looking, but either way your bang on the button. Thanks again. Gerry.

    I have had YSS suspension in the past, not so good, a recent upgrade in the factory means these are NOW seriously good quality, for the money. After the long day I had on your stunning September ride out last year I upgraded the mono shock on my Honda CBR to YSS. Stunning result - completely changes the bike - cheaper than a new bike (so i told the wife). Comes with simple set up instructions - made to order with my weight and intended use of the bike as part of the order, I got it through 'BrooksBarnParts' on ebay, took about 10 days to arrive. The bike has now been through the winter salt, etc on my daily commute, not a mark on the shock, well pleased. FS365 user, helps of course.

    Bonjour Del from Switzerland. And Penny of course for the great camera work! I also found your site by chance after buying a 2008 Bonneville 2 days ago and cannot stop watching your videos… Certainly not a mechanic but handy guy nonetheless and your videos make me want to upgrade that Bonnie. You should do physical classes where people could bring their bikes and do a job over one day or two with your supervision and guidance…I would certainly come over to the UK again ! You are an excellent teacher and communicator. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and little hints so efficiently. Philippe

      Good morning Philippe! Thank you so much for your generous words of support and encouragement, we're glad you enjoy the videos, congratulations on your new Triumph, there are plenty of videos in our playlist that can help you out and as we still have Triumphs in our lives here, there will be many more videos to come in the future, so perhaps subscribe and hit the icon button and you'll get notifications of anything new that may help you twice a week! Take care and ride safe, Del & Penny!

    Hi,
    Know this is an older how to but just wanted to say big thanks for very informative video.
    Recently had to replace my tired Showa shocks and decided to go for a set of the YSS SHOCKS. Remote didn't stock the G type for the bike but we're very helpful and directed me to the YSS Thailand site. Some great info on there. Purchased from Busters/M&P who did stock them.

Glad you went for YSS, i think you'll find them a lot better then the old factory bangers.. have a good weekend. Del.

    Great video as always. I have a 2015 scrambler and have tried a couple different models of shocks including 2 pairs of ohlins, one of them piggy backs. I had them adjusted at 2 different suspension shops and they were so harsh. Im 195lbs and havea hard time finding suspensions that have more travel than stock. Our roads here are terrible and 4” of travel just doesnt cut it however its adjusted (either too stiff or it bottoms out). Works suspension used to make a 6” travel kit front and back but seems like they stopped doing it. My best advice, after spending thousands on shocks it to know what it is you are trying to upgrade and if that shock will address it (height, handling, damping, adjustability, comfort...etc). I ended up putting my stock shocks back on until I find something better, they are more comfortable than the ohlins...

      Hi mate, if you're still looking for the right option, you could speak with George Milburn, owner of TEC Bike Parts, he makes a range of great value shocks, they are dismantable, he offers different rates of spring, and different lengths of slider, so if you told him what you needed, perhaps he has what you need in the range of stuff he can offer... worth a try?!

    Del, quick one for you: my brother got a pair of rear shocks for his shadow 1100. He went to a local specialist who went through the process of weighing him etc. The brief was 'upgrade shocks for a cruiser for an owner with a very bad back'. I was concerned when they arrived because only the pretension was adjustable.
    The guy told him that the springs had what should be the right amount of pretension - a 200mm spring with 20mm pretension- this was also stated on the spec sheet with the shocks. When we fitted the shocks, the ride height was noticeably lower than standard and you could bottom-out the rear end in the garage just by leaning on it. We had to wind a further 30mm of pretension in to get the bike to a reasonable height and to stop the bike pipes hitting the road on right-handers.
    The brother went back to the guy who said he'll replace the springs which is great but aside whole thing being a little bizarre having gone to a specialist, I'm still wondering if he shouldn't be expecting more adjustability for his money - he paid more for his shocks than you did for the YSS's.
    Any thoughts appreciated, Del :)

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  7 років тому

      You don't say what the brand was mate, or whether they were universal shocks, or specified for his bike?? Because that makes all the difference.... there is no point wasting your time going to a suspension tuning specialist with suspension that cannot be tuned, you need, at the very minimum, some re-bound damping, or preferably both! I can't relaly tell what went wong with your situation, but if you decide to do it properly, hav a chat with the guys at Wemoto, who are sole agents for YSS now, talk to them about what bike you have, what ride height you want, and so on, they will send the exact right shocks for your bike, and on these G Series, the inherent damping tuneablility will mean that they can be set up perfectly for a great ride!

  • @BlackSheepTitch
    @BlackSheepTitch 6 років тому +2

    One small point - you are in fact incorrect in your understanding of the spring rate, the other guy was right, more coils per length = lower rate, once they go coil bound (inactive) then the rate increases (lower coils/length) and the unit becomes stiffer. That is a spring fact :-) Think of a spring as a torsion bar not a beam bending, it will help to understand the principle.

    Hi Del, wanted to send you an email but thought you'd pick this up here anyway... I have been binge watching most of your video's... I'm not going to talk about anything I don't like because it's not really useful to you and you probably know from other comments anyway but what I will say is the good stuff...
    I really have enjoyed the slow and methodical way you present jobs in a noob friendly way that give's me confidence and a little inspiration to start work on a little project. Due to changes at work my current bike, an Mt09 isn't mission critical anymore and really want to get stuck in with a older project bike, either a CBR600FS or a older carbed Gixxer or Zx7R, (I really like those). I am excited to get stuck in taking everything off and get new discs /pads, exhaust, wheel bearings / fulll valve services and some major servicing/renewing and anything that needs to make it gleam. Your general maintenance guides are really nicely done.
    Keep up the good work... I'd love for you to do a P5 zx7r or a CBR900 bug eyes and do all the bits up on one...
    I really enjoyed your Scrambler upgrade series.
    If you haven't already done one would you have a look into doing a bulb to full LED indicators and lights vid on kit a wiring principles?

    I've just bought an XJR1300SP with YSS rear shocks (RG362-330TRCL-37-BJX) they look great but I'm in pain after an hour they're set so hard!! The front shocks are as bad! The guy must have toured all over with luggage back and front, I never received the instruction manual so it was good to watch your video I'll try to set both ends up at the weekend if I can find the pin that comes with them!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Рік тому

      Good luck with getting the rear shocks set up Tim.. they are really adjustable so you should be able to make them work for you.. with the front, they could have simply had thicker oil in them to stiffen them up.. so just changing the oil for what's recommended OEM could be all they need ! as for the adjusting pin.. don't bother buying one, just use the back end of an appropriately sized drill bit that fits nice and snug, and wrap some tape round it to protect your hands from the sharp end ! Good luck with it mate.

    • @Moonfleet41

    (P) Hi Del. I'm really seeing a more professional approach coming out here... Both in the editing, and the content... You're being more concise, advising correct torque settings (for the novice, who has not had the experience of the "feel" of fasteners)...
    This past half dozen videos seem to be a new era for Del Boy's Garage, and it's really exciting and warming to see.

      No doubt. I was watching a video he made years ago (Bandit Oil change).
      Didn't torque any bolts, no washer on the drain plug. Now, with the Triumph, it was far more professional.
      I guess with more novice riders wanting to work on their bikes, it makes sense.

    FWIW I’ve installed a pair of these YSS on my 2020 Speed Twin as the standard kit is the worst I’ve ridden on in over 40yrs. I’m used to having full spec Maxton, Ohlins and K-tec on my bikes but didn’t want to spend that kind of money on the Speed Twin. I have to say that while not ‘as good’ as the more expensive brands, (the expensive stuff is more plush) the YSS are very good and are a night and day difference to the standard rubbish. It’s made the difference between me keeping or selling the bike. I recently took it on a 2000 mile trip across the Pyrenees and I genuinely wouldn’t have been able to do it with the standard set up. The standard shocks really are that bad. The forks still need doing but that can wait for Spring 23 now. When I get around to it I’ll edit and post the video I made while fitting them.

    Hi Delboy (sorry, don't know your name), I'm the chap with CB1300 and if you remember we coincidentally met at Muderford Quay while you're sitting outside of the cafe - Nice talking to you. I came across this video while looking for YSS shocks reviews. My YSS G-series have started leaking in less than a year and I'm now in the process of claiming. I thought this might be useful for this video. I initially spotted some greasy residue on the shock shafts, but now I can see oil collecting on the lower mount. Let's see how well YSS will deal with my warranty case - I'll share my experience here. Thanks again for all your time and efforts.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 років тому

      Wow really, that's a bit of a shock (excuse the pun) I guess all products are given a warranty for this reason, and I guess any company is measured by how it looks after you in exact cases like this... and am confident Wemoto will step up and take care of you (that is if you got them from them), and I'm pretty sure, at least I hope, that maybe you just have a duff one, am really interested to keep up with this, so keep posting it here buddy, we're all ears.... was great to chat when we met, hope you got home safe and sound, catcha again some day aye?

    In this video you were going to follow up with an evaluation of the YSS rear shock over the TEC shocks? Did you ever come to a conclusion if it was a worth while upgrade given the price difference?

  • @x-man5056
    @x-man5056 Рік тому

    From my view, it looks like the springs on the YSS shocks are larger diameter gauge wire (spring is beefier). That is also my impression of the weakness of the TEC lowering shocks. When you shorten suspension travel vis spring height, you need a beefier spring than stock sec. With the lowering shocks, you loose half your remaining travel, just sitting on the bike. I have 9 full turns on my TEC lowering shock springs now, first time riding it in the year I've had them that they didn't bottom out (bump stop pushed all the way), it doesn't ride there, but hitting that stop can accordion your spine. Does "WEMOTO" ship to the US?

    Thanks for another great video. Good technical info and I had a laugh at "riding on what's left of the road" as well! However, I would take issue with the assertion that after market shocks and such improvements add value to the bike for the following owner. Those bits and bobs are terribly dear when first bought, they'll be unusual if they represent a 10 percent return on their as-new price when the owner is ready to sell. I'd say go ahead and invest in the improvements for the pleasure they give you when you ride your pride and joy; don't expect the next owner to value them much at all.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  7 років тому

      I will disagree with you buddy... you speak from a 'buyers' standpoint there.. obviously nobody wants to pay for extras..but simple fact is, they WANT those extras...so once you list your bike, factor in about 30% of the price of those items, then you can negotiate from there.. after all, true value it what ever the next guy will pay you for it aye.!

  • @Radioactive_Slime
    @Radioactive_Slime 7 років тому

    Another excellent video Delboy. I have heard of a proposal in the U.S to essentially outlaw DIY auto (motorcycle) repairs and performance upgrades. I believe it would be fully insurance/liability driven. Thus any work done on your vehicle is by a licensed mechanic using oem spec parts. Nothing can go wrong (know it alls), nobody gets offended (loud exhausts) nobody gets hurt (oops I forgot brake pads.) All part of the autonomous self driving car movement most likely. Probably won't ever happen in our lifetime but worrying nonetheless.
    Keep wrenching while you can...

    • @Moonfleet41

      Paah, that old chestnut again... they've been mumbling that bullshit for 30 years mate... and every time a keen new dudly-do-right bike-hating junior minister thinks he has a bright idea... they dont get past the first hurdle, because any proposed ban on aftermarket parts has to prove they are of a lesser quality than OEM parts.....and as we all know... OEM parts these days fall far short of the awesome quality of top line aftermarket stuff... i mean lets stand an OEM Factory Triumph shock absorber next to a YSS G-Series like in this video... the difference is laughable... the factory junk this bike came with was a damn liability mate.... so Dudly will have to get the factories to pull their saggy assed pants up before they dictate to us what we can do to improve the dangerous junk the bike came with...... i mean lets face it.. if my bike came with YSS shocks, then why would i want to upgrade them?.. im just doing what the lazy cheapscate manufacturer failed to do right in the first place.. and that goes for Harley Davidson too... i changed my Softail shocks for YSS today... the change it breathtaking.. it rides like a new bike... !.... Like you said, its the brainless fumblings of the electric car brigade and wont ever get past first base in our lifetimes..!

    I bought a T120 in May and I have recently changed the rear shocks for some EMC ones Made in France. I'm not happy. They're really stiff so I sent them back to be made more 'comfortable'.
    The retuned set are better but still so stiff even nearly on max clicks to full softness. Wonder what I'm doing wrong... If I increase compression when my wife is on to stop it bottoming, it's way to stiff on my own. Maybe the YSS would have given me more compression damping possibilities ?

I bet Miss Pitstop can't wait for some warm weather...the Scrambler is, no doubt, gonna be a treat to ride! Do you plan on filming some of the on-the-fly suspension adjustments?! I know filming might take some of the joy out of the ride, and adjustment process, but I bet it would be content we'd all enjoy! Keep up the great work D & P!!!

Got a suspension upgrade on the Harley next, so still got work to do on the bench yet..!

    My question is, if you're going to change the wheels, tires, exhaust and suspension anyways, is the Street Twin or T100 Bonneville essentially the same, or would it be better off in some way to start with the street twin or Bonnie? I ask because I'm considering one of the three bikes. I like spoked wheels, but if they rust on three months, I've have to buy aftermarket wheels anyways, so it doesn't matter what wheel they come with. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've already got a ZX14R, so I'd like a nice classic machine like this, for the road. Thanks.

      Hi there, thats a good thinking plan... This bike is a 2013 model, and the engine was the reason for choosing it as it has the 270 crank, and gives the sound we wanted.. but now i think they are all 270, and that choice is made for you... so all i would do now, (as im not totally up on the latest models), is to have a long, "stand back look" and all three bike,s and identify what components you are NOT CHANGING, and then you may be able to see what the bike will look like when your project is done.. then you can hack out the best deal on the model you need... Hope that helps mate.. good luck with it. Del.

    Wow, I am about to buy a 2021 bonneville and I'm so glad I came across your channel. I'm only 10 minutes into your explanation of the shocks and I already subscribed. Thanks for your straight to the point, no nonsense information, much appreciated. I will need to know more about these things before buying. Do you think it's worth buying a T120? I don't mind spending more to upgrade parts here and there if it's a great bike overall.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  3 роки тому

      Hi mate and welcome aboard, and YES the T120 is definitely worth it... that model in particular over the Speed Twin or the Scrambler, because it specifically has the HT engine (high torque), having owned one myself I was so shocked by the nature of the performance that I looked up some numbers to see how it makes its power, and due to a heavyweight flywheel inside the engine, they produce their peak torque way down low at 3200rpm... and in top gear you're cruising at 60mph at about 2500rpm so when you want to overtake you just twist the throttle, leave the gears alone, and ride that massive torque surge as it pulls and pulls and pulls... honestly, get a test ride on one and you'll see what I mean, everyone who owns one will tell you, it's insane fun just riding the awesome torque surge, it truly is an incredible engine... the Speed Twin is a revvier engine and you need to use the gears more and the Scrambler is totally different again, but the Bonneville T120 is a total 'torque monster' and you definitely won't regret it! Good luck.

      Thanks for the reply. I appreciate this information, especially coming from someone who works on bikes. I also like the low end torque, which why I am considering this bike and also a harley road king. Good luck with the channel.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  3 роки тому

      @@Ephesians-xt4xc Just one point of context there, I've had many Triumphs and a great many Harley Davidsons over the years, and the modern versions of both brands are equally as reliable as any Japanese brand... often you will find that negative experiences posted online by new owners can get blown out of proportion and certainly with Harley Davidson, I would say a modern Road King with the M8 engine is head and shoulders above any of the competition in many ways... not in every way, some use more advanced technology, Harley Davidson do like to keep a foot in the past to retain their heritage image, but like for like, and above all else, a Harley Davidson will hold it's value better than anything from Japan. And if you're making a big investment, that has to be of relevance, Good luck with your choice, maybe test ride a few options and we hope you enjoy whichever one you choose.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Martin, these are great shocks, but I wouldn't go as far to say 'great for the price'... Ohlins are three times as good, but they're not a lot more money, if that makes sense! What I'm getting at is that your TEC shocks are the best value on the market, they're partly adjustable and for what they cost they'll give you a great ride that is better than factory stock... but to pay nearly 5x as much for YSS they're certainly not 5x better.. Yes, I set a little sag and they're a great ride, but I probably wouldn't buy them again... Hope that helps!

On the dampening the clicks are intermittent, some clicks up top and some down lower, its not as easy clicking as yours, I have them set by feel to what I think is 15 on each side.... should the weight be taken off the rear wheel when adjusting the dampening? Also thank you for this video, little or nothing anywhere on YSS shock adjustment so thank you.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  5 років тому

      Hi buddy, I've heard this a few times, from what I understand, it's quite normal... I always work on situations like this, by turns of the dial, not clicks, it's far more reliable.. the clicks rely on a spring loaded ball bearing inside the adjustor wheel, which is greased, obviously, and sometimes the ball bearing gets cushioned by the grease and doesn't make a resounding click... but clikc, or no click, it won't move unless you move it with your fingers... so start all the way down one end of the adjustment, maybe mark the wheel with a dot of Tippex, or a Sharpie pen, then count the turns all the way through the full range of adjustment, then set it in the middle of those turns (that way you'll get equal adjustment both sides), and then fine tune according to your taste from there... but if you're in any doubt mate, they are guaranteed, so you can always bring it up with the supplier! Good luck with it, all the best, Del

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 років тому +1

      Hi there, if you're feeling the bumps hard, it's not so much about the spring, but more about the damping, so soften up the damping ssettings, top and bottom, until you are comfortable with the ride, good luck with it !

    • @thedarth1997
      @thedarth1997 6 років тому

      @@Moonfleet41 what do you think works best rebound higher than your compression or vice versa softer than your compression

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 років тому

      Hi there again, ideally they should almost be the same, if you have too much rebound damping you will get a thing called 'jack down', which is where you get a series of short bumps, the shocks collapse under the impact on the first bump, and then a little more over the second bump, but as the rebound damping is too strong, the shocks can't recover to their height so end up ging down and down and down (or jacking down) which manifests itself as a big thump on the final bump... alternatively with too much compression damping the bike ends up too stiff, so here's a suggestion to try and find a sweet spot..... take both re-bound and compression damping right down to minimum, then come up one click from the bottom with both, then ride it... if it's a little too bouncy, then increase another click on both and try again, till you get to the point where the bike feels confident... then if you find it's a little too squashy, you can go up, or down, one click on either, and that should iron it out.... it's not an exact science when you're doing it by trial and error on the street, but you can go to these suspension labs and get them to set them up for you according to your body weight and where you ride, but it's expensive, they're not always available and local to you, and you could probably sort it out yourself with a little patience.. hope that helps you mate, all the best,

After this second pair started leaking again i got myself a pair of Hagon Nitros but i have a predicament im hoping you can share your experience with. Hi Loc, that's an odd one... I never had one stick on the frame pin before, and I imagine had I done so, I would have maybe warmed it up a little, even a hairdryer on the hottest setting played directly on it for about 20 seconds would be enough... then with a pair of grips, just rotate it gently and ease it off... try that buddy, and see how you get on... also wouldn't hurt to squirt a bit of WD40 over it, so that you work it back and forth, it will ease it's way underneath... let us know how you get on mate !

    • @Farcyde021
      @Farcyde021 7 років тому

      Thanks for the quick reply. Ive had wd40 on it over night and ill give your hairdryer suggestion a go. I was prepping to try and cut them off today with a dremel. Im hoping it doesnt get to that. Im regretting not doing some better sanding when i fitted them on in the first place.
      Thanks again. Love the videos. Keep them coming!

    • @Farcyde021
      @Farcyde021 7 років тому

      Just a follow up for those who find themselves in the same position. I didn't want to risk cutting into the frame pin with the Dremel so i used a sharp pair of cutting pliers to cut a small .5 mm incision on the lip of the brass sleeve. Then i used a large pair of needle nose pliers close to the incision and peeled the brass sleeve back counterclockwise like peeling an apple. Pull the lip up before turning counterclockwise so more of the brass sleeve peels off. I took off about 3 mm of the sleeve this way. After that the sleeve slid right off with some wd40 and a good pipe wrench.
      I'm so glad to be rid of the TEC's though i must admit its hard to argue their price. The new Hagon Nitros are awesome. As much as the TEC's improved over the stock suspension the Hagons doubled it. My spine notices the difference.
      Hope this helps someone.

    We get these YSS shocks for INR 40000 (GBP 400) in India, which is quite a lot of money.
    I had a question about using these shocks for two-up riding on a Street Twin. The OEM shocks are too soft, even at a setting of 4, and bottom out on bad roads. Also, on undulated highways, they make the bike wallow a fair bit, which isn't confidence inspiring at all.
    After two years of using these (considering you still have this bike), would you recommend this purchase as a significant value add for two-up riding?

    • @Moonfleet41

      Firstly my friend, thank you for your message and yes, I would definitely recommend the YSS shocks over the poor quality standard ones... they are certainly worth the money, but to be sure that your new ones will be strong enough for your intended use, then perhaps enquire with YSS as to whether you can get some uprated springs, otherwise they will be matched to the weight capacity of the Triumph shocks... if you can uprated the spring rate, you will definitely have a better shock,... and after 2yrs on these shocks, they are still like new!

    Hey Del, love all your videos, they are very informative and give me the courage to work on my bike, thank you! I was wondering, I own a 2015 Triumph Bonneville T100 Newchurch Edition, the rear tire on it currently is a 120mm (bought the bike used), I came off of a CBR600RR, so I like the look and the performance of a fat tire, I want to go wider, I went to the dealership and they told me that stock bike actually comes with a 110mm... if it’s not too much to ask, is it possible to make a video showing how to install a 180mm rear and a 120mm front? Like the tire set up on the bike you’re working on in this video? Sorry for the long comment, but thank you for every thing!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  7 років тому +1

      Hi Andrew, good to hear from you... and good on you on the Newchurch, they are a great model! Pretty rare now...
      We get asked this about wide tyres every month, and we have to break the bad news mate, that you can't just do it with tyres.... the bike in this video has a 3.5x17 front rim and a 5.5x17 rear rim... you need to do that to fit the 180/120 combo, otherwise, putting wider tyres on skinny rims just drags the tread round in to too tight a curve, it doesn't then visually appear any wider, and you end up with a dangerous profile on the tread... the 120 on the back of your bike was an oversize for the Newchurch models, and perhaps at the very most, you could risk a 130/60, but no wider than that, or you will start to pinch the tread round too narrow....
      What that means is wider rims buddy, and the rims for this bike were built specially for it by Devon Wheel Company and were pretty expensive, but if you're interested, and have a few bob to spend, am happy to send you on the link... Sorry it's bad news, but if you have a cheeky budget to spend, that it's all possible, just let me know!

    • @handyandydmv
      @handyandydmv 7 років тому

      Moonfleet41 hey Del, thanks for the quick response! I was thinking that the 130/60 would be the biggest I could possibly go on the stock rim of the Newchurch. I’m slightly mechanically inclined (just slightly lol) I was concerned if I got wider rims, would it kind of be a “plug and play” upgrade? Let’s just say I get the wider rims... that would push the rear hub out more, and push the chain out , etc... would I need a jack shaft or some thing to keep the chain in straight instead of being at an angle ? ..... I hope you can understand what I’m trying to get at... and yes please! Send the link, I would love to check them out! By the way, greetings from NYC! If you’re ever in this part of the world, feel free to give a shout and we can link up ride ! Or make a video with my bike ! :-)

    1. TEC Gas Shocks with adjustable damping - 139£
    2. YSS ECO Twin Shocks - 140£
    I'm 210 lbs and mostly ride on twisty mountain roads with NOT very good surface. As far as I know, for rough road surfaces with bumps etc, a softer suspension is a better option for grip and ride comfort (please correct me if I am wrong).
    Which would you recommend for me?

      Hi Murat, I can only offer you this as an opinion, they're clearly both the same price, I've only used the top of the range YSS and they're £500, I've not used the budget ones, but have used the TEC shocks at £139, and they're excellent, not just excellent for the money, but excellent all round... so the only ones I can definitely endorse for your price are the TEC shocks, you won't be disappointed in them, and the guys at TEC are extremely helpful and will do anything to make sure you're happy... good luck with it, all the best,

    Hello Delboy can I ask your opinion on something?, I bought a Triumph bonnerville on Saturday and have been riding it quite happily, well on Tuesday the back wheel slid out, so I got home as I only live round the corner from where it happened and discovered that the right hand side shock absorber had spat out its retaining bolt and seal and coated the tire, chain guard, wheel and tire with fluid. Now the shocks looked well looked after and clean and even Had a brand name sticker on them, which eventually turned out to be previous owners wishful thinking and not the brand it was imitating. Have you ever come across this, I was quite horrified when I saw it, I can send you some pictures if you want to see it.

      Ok, sure thing mate... not sure how I might be able to help, there are a lot of cheap quad bike shocks out there for as little as £25 p/pair, really nasty stuff.. and as you'd imagine, don't last 5mins... there's a couple of good value aftermarket brands you can go for, TEC Bike Parts would be the best, had several pairs on Triumphs before these, and they're a clear improvement over the factory shocks, and also robust and durable... give them a look online: TECBikeParts.

      @@Moonfleet41 Thanks for the reply, actually thats where these shocks came from. I've never seen this happen to a shock absorber its bloody dangerous, I have got in contact with them and waiting for a reply, I do not want them replaced but the seller really needs to look at them and get hold of manufacturer. I have ordered a set of Hagons instead.

    Hi Del - quick question are the top and bottom lugs (or spigots) standard diameters across all models? I was wondering if after market shocks for the current Street-Twin will be an easy fit on a 2015 865 T100. The length looks a good match. Cheers.

      Moonfleet41 one´s. :-) But not by chronological order (they are so many). Today I´m watching one from 2011 (Steel fabrication, Harley Sportster Heel Plate, 1 of 2)! Not easy to follow all videos. I don´t seem to find the video where the bar end mirrors were swaped (and the reasons why they were). Just curious about that.
      Thanks for the answer Del. Will have to check it closer.

    great video del i do enjoy watching you do these jobs as your very knowledgeable & explain things so people can understand them.
    would you say doing mods/upgrades definitely add value to a bike only with cars it's the opposite & can devalue it as well as turning people of buying.
    looking forward to the next video mate :-)

      @Moonfleet41  7 років тому

      Hi buddy, interesting point indded... and modifying a car can enhance it's value, but it has to be done in a very particular way... with cars, it's more about improving the specification, add leather, air con, alloys, and a discreet classy looking body kit, and you definitely enhance the value...add a sub-woofe,r on the other hand, and perhaps some snazzy neon lights under the chassis, and, erm... well, you know the rest!

    Hi there Del and Penny. Cannot say how much I appreciate your videos. They are spot on with now questions open. Sorry to see this vet only now. I bought the TEC reach shocks just over a year ago. The road conditions here in Colombia are as you described it. Riding on what is left of the road many tines. My rear right shock bent and broke and the guys from TEC USA where very kind and send me a replacement although the one year guarantee was gone. Now, actually today, I fitted the new TEC rear shocks. Seeing now the YSS suspension,,,,well,, too late. Anyway, its a good recommendation for the next time. How does Penny rate her new YSS shocks ? Ride safe, Ber

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  7 років тому +2

      Hey Bernhard, good to hear from you my friend. The TEC shocks are by no means a second rate item... they never let me down, and totally transformed the handling on the Scrambler we have... i only found the YSS shocks recently too, and they are better in build finish, look far nicer visually... but as for performance, i would have to poush the bike very hard to notice any real difference between them and the TEC items... The reason of this i think is that the with TEC shocks the work goes all into the performance of them, and not so much the glossy finish... they are way better "Bang-for-your-buck" than the YSS and thats for sure..
      Enjoy your bike buddy, you live in a beautiful place..
      All the best.
      Del.

    Hello. I've noticed you are fan of YSS suspension :). Can you tell me if you compared YSS with other aftermarket suspensions? Like Hagon or Hyperpro? I'm about order suspension upgrade for my bike, because mine is old and I can't even setup proper SAG, and I'm looking for good replacement. YSS, Hagon and Hyperpro are about same price for my bike and I can't really find any good revives about this products.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 років тому

      Hi Pawel, no i didn't do side by side comparisons of them, thats pretty much impossible im sure you'll agree unless you buy all three and fit them then ride on them for a month each...and who could afford that.???lol.. But i am totally happy with the YSS shocks, they are totally adjustable and easy to set up, and the first thing i noticed about them was that you don't notice them..!! if that makes sense..
      If they are doing their job correctly, then you shouldn't notice anything but a totally comfortable ride in all situations.... and that is the case with these.. i have heard good things about Hagon, and Hyperpro, but not used them myself, so can't advise on those mate... Hope that helps in some way though.. all these things a a leap of faith in some small way aye..! Good luck with your chouse.. Del.

      @@Moonfleet41 Hello. I realize compare side by side three products on one bike is impossible :)
      I was hoping, maybe you used other companies suspension and can tell anything about use, maintenance or lifetime.
      I have placed order for YSS progressive front fork springs and rear shock with rebound and spring compression regulation. I have got really good price for YSS compared to other companies.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  7 років тому +5

      Hi buddy, no need to wait , I know they will perform a million times better than your ZRX shocks, even if they weren't tired... the factory standard shocks (even if they are piggy backs) are always a medium flavour option... they are pretty much a set menu from new, and can very easily be improved, and this can even be said for the factory Ohlins that come on XJR Yamahas, they are just a low spec copy of the 'real' thing... a pair of these YSS G Series shocks would transform your Zilla, specially with that deep brace swing arm they have as standard! Get stuck in mate...
