This was my introduction to VoicePlay and til today it's still my favourite. This is basically their portfolio song where everyone shows everything they can do: Eli his full range from low to high; Cesar his phenomenal acting skills; it's my favourite singing part of Layne and he also gets particularly creative with his percussion sounds; Geoff does both the bass and the lead singing; and Elizabeth is my favourite one-time featured artist and my second favourite at all after Omar Cardona (btw the second VP video I watched was Dragonborn). It's also my absolute favourite VP music video both in storyline (Mini Eli! The carrot mini storyline!) and styling/set and even the outro ("Stop! Eating! The merchandise!"). Upon every rewatch I discover something new. (Btw David K Reacts pointed out how Elizabeth's character was probably the leader of the group and the only one who knew what they were doing. Classic as well as classical! 100% deserves to achieve viral status 🤣 As always really great storytelling, with everyone portraying a unique & very amusing character. Cesar (red devil) with his wild-eyed maniacal laughter was the only one here that truly seemed rather evil!! 😅 (A fascinating contrast to his usual teddybear persona...) And just like that *snaps fingers* VoicePlay takes back the origimagidiculous mantle. In all seriousness, this is truly astoundingly done as an a cappella piece. All the little bits that intertwine around each other just like the instruments in an orchestra...you all are *so* in command of your voices. And Lizzy is just *FIERCE* - visually and audibly. Thank you SO much for this one! 💕
Best all-bard D&D session I've ever seen. XD Seriously though- you guys wanna know why you're so eye-catching and inspiring? Everything you do- every SINGLE song you've done- tells a STORY. You ALWAYS create a story for every performance, and it's SO much more than just awesome vocals and catchy arrangements. There's emotion, and thought, and personality. Every time. What I wouldn't GIVE to be able to tell stories like that. It amazes me, entertains and makes me think, "hey- maybe I can stop being be too freaked to actually put my own stories out there. Because they make such an awesome, positive change, and I wanna try to add onto that in my own special way." You guys, altogether, are a living storybook, and I think we'd all hate to ever miss a single turn of the page. We need more storytellers in the world- you guys are magical, and don't you forget it.
Saw the post that this was coming and scratched my head. "Isn't Hall of the Mountain King instrumental?" Yeah...they owned that vocal instrumental! Love the Nightmare Before Christmas masks in the background too.
their voices are incredible!!! i keep being blown away with every video i watch!!! also love how not only they add their own twist to the song but lots of fun things are happening during the vid as well!
That moment when Layne's character gets tipsy, matched by the switch to a major key, was excellent. And then when he gets smacked to sober him up, it went back to minor. Genius.
So cool to hear actually “classical” singing by the whole group - mixed in with character voices 😆 and rock/pop styles too. Eli- yeeting your mini-demon into the stew (and his vocal) was one of my favorite bits 💖💖💖💖 Everyone - Everyone of you - were brilliant. L O V E D. I T!

that would be Layne and Geoff, lol. they arrange 99% of their music, and they also concept the videos going with them. this particular song was all Layne's doing, though Geoff helped with arranging the "swing"-part where he puts something in the cauldron from that box.
How could I be so entertained by a song with absolutely no discernable lyrics? I am literally 3, or so, hours new to these guys and have been mesmerized by every single song they've done. The work that goes into every song/video is mind-boggling and so very much appreciated. I can't seem to keep the members straight though as they've changed over the years, lol, so I'll just refer to them as the deep-voiced viking guy, the beat-boxer, the guy that looks like he could go berserker with his rocker voice, the I don't know who He is, but I think I'm in love now guy, and the extra guest that's usually a woman who can hit notes that should not be humanly possible. Yeah, that's how I'm doing it from now on. LOLOLOL These guys can sing anything and this one proves it!!!
The bass is Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci. He has about a 5-octave range. The beatboxer is Layne Stein. He also sings, rarely taking solo lines, mostly background harmonies, and also has a 5-octave range. Geoff and Layne do most of the arrangements for the group. ** They're the only remaining original members of the group, which started in 1997 as 4:2Five (when they were in middle school). The rocker who looks like he could go berserker is Eli (pronounced Ellie, rhyming with jelly) Jacobson. He's been with the group for 12 years, I believe. He's officially the group's tenor, although he has a 4-octave range. The newest member is Cesar (pronounced like the Roman Emperor Caesar) de la Rosa. He's been with them for 2 years now. Officially, he's their baritone, but he also has about a 4-octave range. Together the four of them - or five when they have a featured artist - they truly make musical magic. Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. We "voiceplayers" are all very happy in here!
I concur. Honestly, I think this is the best video VoicePlay has done so far, and that is fairly elite territory. If you consider only the audio, there are a couple of others that might edge it out, but this one has just so much going on visually, and it's all so cleverly tied in with what is going on musically...
Lady and gents. Once again you have pulled the proverbial rabbit from the cauldron!! WOW!! Miss Elizabeth , your voice is absolutely beautiful. I hope to see more collaborations with the guys. Fellas. I only wish I had a small portion of your creative skill and abilities. You have yet to produce anything I haven't fully enjoyed. I hope to see and hear your continued excellence!! THANK YOU!
I have listened to this now, at least 50 times. While the video, makeup, set and story telling is great, the musical aspect of this is beyond amazing. On a technical level it is brilliant, especially with supporting harmonies behind the solos. After the poot-burp part when Elizabeth solos, those background chords and harmonies are pure ear magic. Layne, my guy, you are an incredible composer. This whole piece has me speechless.
What a great rendition of one of my all time favorite songs! The vocals, costumes and set are so creative! Elizabeth was a wonderful addition to this video. Thank you all so much!
So awesome!! But somehow this just keeps going round and round in my head - I found myself singing this to my cat yesterday and imagining him filling in Layne's parts. I must be demented!
Since I found this version for my son I've hear it about 5000+ times. It just showed up on my feed while he is asleep, so I said to myself why not once more.
I get such wonderful Disney Fantasia vibes from this. So that got me thinking, VoicePlay should do more instrumental pieces like this, string them all together into one long video and call it VoicePlaysia!
You guys just astound me! I love how much fun you all have getting dressed up and just having great time! I am a novice a cappella fan but am just gobsmacked at how amazing the human voice is. I truly appreciate your amazing talent and that you share it with the world. Peace and Love from Australia
This is a very well known classical piece and I have heard it hundreds of times.. BUT you guys made it unique and new and so fresh that I think it’s my absolute favorite version of this song I’ve ever heard! Bravo!
Thank you, Voice Play! I've been pestering you to do some classical music and you not only did it, you absolutely killed it. More, please! Everything about this was a visual and auditory pleasure. The costumes, the special effects and the vocals and character voices were just superb. As I said, more, please!!
I remember as a little child back in the 60s getting my parents to put this on, then walking / running around in small circles (there wasn't much space in our living room), getting faster and faster. I always associate it with frenetic movement, so pulling me in while standing around a cauldron is extra impressive. Great music, great humour, great production - thanks!
I didn't know I needed an a capella version of this piece until I heard this the other day. It made me smile, laugh, and just be amazed with this group all over again (I feel like I say this on every song they cover but it's true). Liz is just freaking incredible. She KILLED those notes. I was highly impressed. That is difficult. Thank you guys for another amazing cover and breathing some new life into the piece.

Classic as well as classical! 100% deserves to achieve viral status 🤣 As always really great storytelling, with everyone portraying a unique & very amusing character. Cesar (red devil) with his wild-eyed maniacal laughter was the only one here that truly seemed rather evil!! 😅 (A fascinating contrast to his usual teddybear persona...) Wished the editing was just a wee bit slower so I could really take in all the amazing details of the costuming, makeup & props...
Awesome! Characters 👏👏👏👏🤯🤩
I just keep being amazed at Layne’s beautiful voice since it’s not heard all that often.
What about this: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica, definitely and absolutely want Eil Jacobson to take full lead, collaborate with Adam Rupp for his half and half vocal will used his most of his 3rd octave and some 2nd octave with the blend with the lead and beatboxing, Geoff will used his subharmonic with Scott Hyoing from Penatatonix for his low baritone low notes for the Bassline, high harmony by Cesar de la Rosa collaborate with Mitch Grassi from Penatatonix.
And just like that *snaps fingers* VoicePlay takes back the origimagidiculous mantle.
I knew this song had no lyrics so I was wondering but my expections has been over filled!
Best all-bard D&D session I've ever seen. XD
Seriously though- you guys wanna know why you're so eye-catching and inspiring? Everything you do- every SINGLE song you've done- tells a STORY. You ALWAYS create a story for every performance, and it's SO much more than just awesome vocals and catchy arrangements. There's emotion, and thought, and personality. Every time. What I wouldn't GIVE to be able to tell stories like that. It amazes me, entertains and makes me think, "hey- maybe I can stop being be too freaked to actually put my own stories out there. Because they make such an awesome, positive change, and I wanna try to add onto that in my own special way."
You guys, altogether, are a living storybook, and I think we'd all hate to ever miss a single turn of the page. We need more storytellers in the world- you guys are magical, and don't you forget it.
What a wonderful, insightful comment! You're 100% correct, too. I hope you bring your stories out into the world as well.
Disney better than Disney lol
Saw the post that this was coming and scratched my head. "Isn't Hall of the Mountain King instrumental?" Yeah...they owned that vocal instrumental! Love the Nightmare Before Christmas masks in the background too.
All the guys are creepy demons and Geoff is a magical bass fairy.
🤣
Haha, bass fairy!
I can never unhear that😂
Maleficent's musically-inclined cousin
😂😂and l like the bass fairy the most
If any song of theirs were to win awards, it would be this one. Absolutely brilliant.
Cesar de la Rosa is epic! Great addition to a fantastically talented team!
their voices are incredible!!! i keep being blown away with every video i watch!!! also love how not only they add their own twist to the song but lots of fun things are happening during the vid as well!
WARNING: choking hazard during this premiere, do not eat or drink as you'll be laughing your ass off 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the warning because that’s usually my issue
super weird, unique, and awesome take on this song
Singing, beat-boxing and playing the violin! Layne is so talented.
You're all very talented!!! ❤
If Elizabeth sang my textbooks I'd actually learn something. Absolutely mesmerizing voice.
@Jan Turner if voiceplay sang my history lesson i m sure i'd learn every date perfectly 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That is the sweetest compliment. Thank you so much! 😊
That moment when Layne's character gets tipsy, matched by the switch to a major key, was excellent. And then when he gets smacked to sober him up, it went back to minor. Genius.
yeah all it took was a dope slap to the back of Layne to get him sobered up. LMFMAO!!!
Your party comes upon a group of tieflings around a cauldron. They're singing. ROLL FOR INITIATIVE!
Nat 20
So cool to hear actually “classical” singing by the whole group - mixed in with character voices 😆 and rock/pop styles too.
Eli- yeeting your mini-demon into the stew (and his vocal) was one of my favorite bits 💖💖💖💖
Everyone - Everyone of you - were brilliant.
L O V E D. I T!
What about this: You Will Know My Name by Arch Enemy, collaborate with Alexa absolutely and definitely will take full lead and collaborate with Mitch Grassi from Penatatonix in harmonic unison for their high notes, collaborate with Niko Porter for his control the tempo and time signature with atmospheric synth drop with different depth for his beatboxing, collaborate with Tim Foust will used his chest with Geoff will used his subharmonic with different depth for the Bassline, high harmony by: Eil Jacobson and Cesar de la Rosa, Lyane Stein.
I don't know who comes up with all these random ideas, but whoever you are... Don't stop.
Sincerely,
The world 😁😁
that would be Layne and Geoff, lol. they arrange 99% of their music, and they also concept the videos going with them. this particular song was all Layne's doing, though Geoff helped with arranging the "swing"-part where he puts something in the cauldron from that box.
currently watching this from the street called Edvard Griegs Vei, in Grieg's hometown, Bergen! Its a small world!
We "voiceplayers" are all very happy in here!
sometimes it easy to forget what a great voice layne has
Layne, this arrangement is fantastic! So funny! The video too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This... Is the single most creatively arranged and performed piece of acapella I have ever heard. Holy smokes!!! Very nicely done.
OH, SO much fun! Well done!
it's all grieg to me
[sorry...i'll show myself out]
this is hilarious, creepy, and delightful in every way imaginable!
This was always my favourite classical song for this exact reason, it sounds so dastardly. Chef’s kiss
My Favorite classical song in this world performed by brillant people. Thank you all for this!
I like the little devil on the shoulder lol thinking about a little devil on the devil's shoulder!?
you are too good!
Well, you've definitely justified your name. You guys had a lot of fun playing with voices on that one.
Roxie c Luv stock
This really should have more views! It's a masterpiece!
I concur. Honestly, I think this is the best video VoicePlay has done so far, and that is fairly elite territory. If you consider only the audio, there are a couple of others that might edge it out, but this one has just so much going on visually, and it's all so cleverly tied in with what is going on musically...
😂👏🏼😂👏🏼😂👏🏼😂👏🏼😂👏🏼😂👏🏼 I can’t decide whether this is the funniest ever or the most brilliant, so I vote for both. BRAVO‼️
THANK YOU!
Finally, Voiceplay's stealth soprano appears !
lol, yup. Lizzie has been sneaking into their videos here and there, time to bring her into the light!
I've recognized her voice in Frozen and Greatest Showman. Are there others?
@@shirleykarr560 she was also in Just Sing 🙂
😂😂😂
@@LizzyGarozzoMusic : just your vocal with them, 😶
Trolls getting devious around some magic soup that's basically the video and I love it
Talent authentic
This absolutely emphasizes everyone's individual voices so well! Love it
I get such wonderful Disney Fantasia vibes from this. So that got me thinking, VoicePlay should do more instrumental pieces like this, string them all together into one long video and call it VoicePlaysia!
MASTERPIECE🤩👏so funny!!!😂😅
You guys just astound me! I love how much fun you all have getting dressed up and just having great time! I am a novice a cappella fan but am just gobsmacked at how amazing the human voice is. I truly appreciate your amazing talent and that you share it with the world. Peace and Love from Australia
This is a very well known classical piece and I have heard it hundreds of times.. BUT you guys made it unique and new and so fresh that I think it’s my absolute favorite version of this song I’ve ever heard! Bravo!
Norwegian here - Grieg would be proud! :D Keep up the amazing work!
I woke up singing this this morning >.
This is honestly the coolest version of "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" that I've heard in ages!
You guys are wicked! :D
Incredibly intricate, sounds incredibly difficult to perform. Seriously this is like a masterclass in arranging music. Fantastic work
OMG! This is brilliant! Edvard Greig would be proud!
Your humor and theatrics are awesome!😂 Just love you guys!❤❤❤❤❤❤
This has defenetly become one of my voiceplay favorites song. It's amazing how they tell a stoy without words. And I really enjoy Layne's part!
Its fun to be back in this world again 🎉
This was such fun. It's one of my favourite Grieg pieces, too.
What about this: Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do) by Van Halen, Collaborate with Adam Rupp from Home Free and Kevin Oulsa from Penatatonix In harmonic unison will take full lead, Geoff will used his subharmonic with different depth for the Bassline, high harmony by Eil Jacobson and Cesar de la Rosa.
I need a continuation of these characters in some way xD the story was so compelling!
Whoa, you gents pulls no punches! This is all sorts of chaos and I love it. Eli's mini me is my favourite.
OMG!!!!!! I just saw Omar on The Voice. Everybody vote for him!!!!!!!!
NOT ONLY IS THIS ARRANGEMENT AMAZING BUT ALSO THE COSTUMES AND THE SET DESIGN??? THEY ARE SO GOOD I EVEN LOVE THE HIDDEN MASKS OF LOCK, SHOCK, AND BARREL
