Both the landlord couples were actually martial artists & stuntman/stuntwoman back in the 70s/80s. Both of them trained in the Peking opera with well known action stars in Hong Kong such as Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung & Yuen Biao since young.
Basically everybody in this movie are martial artists and stuntpeople. The whole thing was Stephen Chow's homage to the kung fu movies he always loved.
Legit one of the funniest scenes of physical comedy I’ve seen in any movie, ever. It’s just so dang good, and so well paced with how each hit lands it somehow manages to be surprising each time. XD
I love Kung Fu Hustle. It's like a live-action, martial arts anime musical and the comedy in it is so good that saying you were "LMAO" and "ROFL" isn't even hyperbole.
Steven Chow the director, the main character and the producer of the film is the best cartoon-style kungfu comedy director alive!!!! Everything is so random and cartoonish but always tells a simple heart-felt story, strongly suggest you guys to react to Shaolin Soccer after this. P.S. He is making Shaolin Women Soccer right now after a long time he made anything. His films tend to be cartoonish but always have a sad dark undertone to it, telling stories about the little guys, the 'nobody's.
That dance routine by the axe gang was actually improvised by the stunt team one day, and they filmed it and showed it to the director. He loved it and decided to put it into the movie.
This is one of those movies that was a cult classic on release. Everyone loves it and it’s a very common story to tell and proof that slap stick comedy translates to any language
Bro you gotta react to more Stephen Chow's movies. They are all hilarious!! I grew up watching them!! 😂😂😂 I would recommend 1. Fight back to school 2. The God of cookery 3. Shaolin soccer
The actor of landlord, Yuen Wah, starred in Shang Chi (2021) as the old man in Ta Lo. The actress of landlady, Yuen Qiu, starred in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974). They are living legends of Kung Fu.
She came along with a friend to audition for the landlord role & Stephen Chow saw her sitting and waiting for friend to finish auditioning while smoking a cigarette with an attitude & he wanted her for the role instead. Something like that I heard. She was great 👍
Bruce Leung - The Beast Chiu Chi-ling - Tailor Yuen Cheung-yan - Old Beggar Lot of people with history in old Hong Kong Kung Fu movies. Yuen Qui was one of the schoolgirls who help Bond escape.
The many martial arts featured in this film are actually pretty famous, and you can also see the 2 stages of the martial arts genre here, namely wushu and wuxia. The 3rd stage is xianxia and that is literally when you become an immortal by mastering martial arts, with fights involving xianxia martial artists akin to Madara vs Hashirama level of map and terrain changing fights. The basis of these 3 genres actually all tie down to one concept: Chi. The first 3 martial artists that appeared to save the tenants from the Axe Gang are the more modern and down to earth and realistic martial arts called wushu. These are real and can actually be learned and trained. There are no chi involved in this stage. Then from wushu, it escalated to wuxia when the musicians got involved. Wuxia is when the internal chi and all that mumbo jumbo come into play, displaying martial artists that had mastered martial arts and capable of superhuman feats by utilising internal chi to enhance their bodies and attacks, such as the Lion's Roar soundwave attack or injuring someone with just playing the musical instrument using chi to produce sound waves. Even traveling at superspeed or becoming capable of stepping on water and superjumps. The highest level of chi manipulation or chi mastery is when mastery of chi had reached such a profound level that the user can even project his internal chi externally to the surrounding. To put it simply, they are capable of using their own internal chi to influence the environment, such as firing their chi like projectiles and move things with their chi like telekinesis. To summarise, wuxia is the romanticised version of martial arts, and are seldom realistic, with many of the kungfu and martial arts being mere myths and legends. The Buddha's Palm is one such romanticised mythical martial arts, with the user capable of reducing mountains to rubble or split the earth open into a gorge, or even have their own shouting soundwave attack like the Lion's Roar. Firing off their internal chi and creating one giant chi handprint is literally just the first phase, or you can say beginner level of using Buddha's Palm.
I haven't watched Wuxia for many years, used to watched just about every series that came out. You know reading this, I just realise I forgot that Qi was different from NeigGong.i thought in WuXia everything is about NeiGong(internal force/energy), but you are right, Qi is the one that's forced out as a projectile while NeiGong is basically their power level, that determines how well you control it, in your body, as projectile, how strong it is, and how tough the person can be. I was explaining this, in other reaction video about NeiGong. But translation wise, saying the NeiGong is the internal force and saying the inter force is also what is projected makes sense easier. Anyway, I was explaining it, because after watching a couple of these reaction video over some time, I realise they often miss this element and misinterpret what's going on. Like the one where they use the musical instruments and some of them thought it was some kind of magic and that the blade form is real, but really it was just to symbolise how sharp the projectile is. They also miss the part where when his lips got bitten, some of his Qi channels have been unblocked, and thus he was able to create those dents on the metal, and finally when he was beaten half to death, all of it was unblocked and thus he became super. although in usual wuxia, they seldom just suddenly become that powerful but they quickly become that powerful. Also, its a very rare thing to unblock all the channels, and in a way, all his channel being able to be unblocked is why he's a "kungfu genius", as in more like he was born to great at it. usually when the character suddenly becomes so strong, some more experienced senior or someone with great NeiGong transferred it to them, the movie took a bit of liberty with this. Theres also the part about that buddha palm technique, like teaching the beast the technique means hes going to be able to master it. Theres also the part where certain skills not only require practice it requires cultivation, the "KouJue", and is why in some Wuxia stories, the bad guy can steal the technique manual and not able to master the skills. Not to mention how not learning it with proper cultivation, you can corrupt the neigong and hurt yourself, or go crazy, even if theres some level of power, it'll never beat doing it the right way. There's also the part about QingGong, but most of the people who react on that scene with him jumping off the bird, meant that he was thrown so high by the enemy and the bird was to show how high it was, but it was actually meant to show his QingGong power, being able to propel himself upwards off the bird without really pushing the bird down much. theres also the reference to yang guo and XiaoLongNu, which obviously was probably the strongest couple ever in the entire jinyong series, particularly YangGuo, we always feel he would've been the strongest if he had 2 hands. Not to mention the scene with the beggar scamming little children. The scene will seem different when you know that those manuals, might actually be legit. I mean in the setting they dont seem to have that many wuxia level. character, and besides its a modern world not the typical ancient china wuxia setting, so its possible that actual manual has become common but no one practices them, and would explain why, he was able to do the buddha palm technique, because he already learned it, and all he need was access to his qi and neigong.
ayo, you explain it very easy to understand, but just only for Asian people, Westerners who don't at least define wuxia or wushu, a real martial art and fiction martial art or many many thing related to that universe, they will never get how deep of it
To Westerners, Kung Fu Hustle is just a silly martial art movie, but to the Chinese, it's nostalgic satire that parodies scenes, characters, and locations from Chinese cinema and day time television. Pig Sty Alley actually is actually a location in a Chinese series. The Buddhist Palm that the guy claims to have learned is actually an ongoing joke in Chinese television and literature. It's not a real move in martial arts. That's why when he tried using it as a kid nothing happened when he hit the bully with it. Everything from the gambling hall fight to the lion's roar to the hidden masters and even the Lovers duo. They all came from different Chinese television.
At time of writting this I haven't finished the video yet, but I wanted to point out a few references you guys maybe missed. The blood scene in the assylum is a The Shining reference, the scene in the begining where the Axe Gang is dancing is a reference to Westside Story, the scene where he holds the mute girl in front of the poster I thought was Casablanca...but I could be ompletely wrong on that one. Obviously you got the roadrunner and cartooonish humor. This movie is a lovelettter to other movies and martial arts films too. Those are a lot of a-listers in chinese cinema. There's loads of things I'm leaving out here, but I love this movie so much, just randomly came across it one day and instantly it was one of my favorite movies.
Kung fu Hustle 2? It has been rumoured but the last news of this was 2022, 2021. Which the news all did not come from Stephen Chow himself. I think its unlikely to be happening. We can only hope. But i think you might meant Shaolin Women Soccer instead. This is at least direct news that comes from Stephen Chow instagram himself this year 2023, looking for women talents. A real confirmation after 22 years since Shaolin Soccer (2001)
It often do I get so much satisfaction from someone watching one of my favorites. Saw this in the empty theater and spent so much time wondering if it was a comedy, drama, or action. It really is a perfect film and I’ll always try to get people to watch it. Thank you

Even writing it off entirely as a comedy is so goofy and probably the funniest part of this video. How you gon sit through a lot of badass action sequence and only call it comedy like, be serious now
HongKong produced the top tier movies in that era, it’s like asian version of Hollywood i recommend Infernal Affairs, one of the most classic and well known HongKong movies of all times, enjoy if you interested!
OMG cant believe you guys are watching this lol, this is my favourite one from Stephen Chow~ p.s. Some palm mark scene from Moving did remind me about Kung Fu Hustle. And the writer of Moving is a martial arts novel fan~
You can't just watch Kung Fu Hustle and not watch Shaolin Soccer. It's Stephen Chow's movie as well and he has so many movies which are so funny like this one 😂😂
Stephen Chow was the first man to crack the formula for a perfect kung fu movie: add some Looney Tunes. And there's a sequel coming, it's in the works.
Never laughed at a reaction of this movie this much! If you guys watch *Team America: World Police* or something similar like *Shaolin Soccer* I might just piss myself.🤣🤣
The first time I watched the knife scene, I laughed so hard that I literally couldn’t breathe. Unfortunately there’s no sequel, however, there has been rumors that he might consider doing a sequel in the near future. I doubt it though since he has retired for so many years. You should check out his other movies. The one that is just as good as this one is Shaolin Soccer. A lesser known one to the Western audience is the God of Cookery. Many of his other ones are more steep in Chinese cultures and folklores so might be harder for foreign viewers to appreciate.
As a kid who grew up in the 90s, Stephen Chow is the GOAT! He is all-in-one package. And personally for me, this movie is his GREATEST. I just LOVE it. I still remember my stomach felt crammed from laughing too much after coming back from the cinema. And since this movie was released in 2005, it was the era of Matrix trilogy and 1st Spiderman movie, thus the slo-mo camera movements, and the two quotes, "He is The One" and "With great power, comes great responsibility." If I am not mistaken, mid of this year, Stephen Chow confirm that there will be Kungfu Hustle 2, but he's still ironing out lots of things, and he also has other movies to complete. But for me, I don't mind the wait, he could take his time to create another Kungfu Hustle, but please don't take too long.
The yellow guy if u actually enjoyed this movie I sure you would enjoy shaolin soccer too, the movie were also stated created and directed by Stephen chow
The Prologue is showing the rise of the Axe Gang. The boss dancing as increasingly more people joins in and the newspaper hinting at crimes is just Stephen Chow's way of showing how the Axe Gang defeated its rivals and became the dominant gang in Shanghai with a few pictures and pretty much the 'opening sequence'
I grew up watching lots and lots of Chinese kung fu movies. Trust me, there are great ones out there that no youtube reaction channel has explored yet.
Watching the two of you laugh so hard almost makes me jealous. I wish i could experience watching this movie for the first time and cry laugh over and over again.
"Big brother" is a term of respect directed to a man of status, used mostly among the triads, criminals or even regular people when they don't know where to place you at.
A film by The great Stephen chow! He was the Writer, main actor, producer and director of this film.... It’s time to react on his film "Shaolin Soccer"
I'm from China,I wanna say i can find lots of reaction videos to this movie, but there are more movies that i hope to see their videos,i really want to see more about how you guys think about Chinese movies
Grew up watching a lot Stephen Chow movies and or sequels. Love his work, and I always revisit my favorites from him, time to time. His comedies are like no others, and love the actions. Some of my favorites from him besides Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer that are most popular internationally. Besides those 2 ; I love Royal Tramp franchise, A Chinese Odyssey franchise (which was on Netflix at one point surprisingly), Hail The Judge, and Flirting Scholar. His historical movies stuck with me more than the modern set era ones, but still love them all regardless cause he is in it.
the intro to stephen chow where he bursts the football is a nod to his previous superhit movie, Shaolin Soccer, which is another movie that you just need to watch, since you've watched this now anyway.
The ending scene with different kungfu manuals, although there's no more further movies made from these from Stephen Chow, those manuals are actually reference to some of the more popular kungfu that can be found in various Chinese kungfu related movies/dramas.
Awesome reaction. The movie that got me to Kung Fu Hustle was Shaolin Soccer, that was the 1st movie from Stephen Chow that I saw. I recomend you guys check it out. It's also funny.
In kung fu hustle, every actor is actually grandmasters of their fighting style... only person who was not is the landlady,.. However, she right now is a grandmaster of 3 different styles.. But yeah, even without movie magic, all of em, including the baddie, would whoop my and your asses.. and they are specifically grand masters in a fightingstyle shown.. ex. rings into arms is grandmaster of iron fist.. during movie landlord-guy is the most versed.. he's an actor and grandmaster in multiple styles.. teached by the same guy as jackie chan, but also well versed in thai kick-box & judo..
Hey guys, I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this film. For your information, Stephen Chow is the main actor as well as producer and director. If I'm not mistaken, this is the second film Which he produces. His first film was entitled Shaolin Soccer. Please, you should make a reaction video to this film. Where in the film Kung Fu Hustle there are actually lots of Easter eggs from the previous film. He is also the main character. The third film, entitled CJ7, has the same genre as comedy. He also plays the main role. In this film there are also many Easter eggs from the film Kung Fu Hustle. I can't wait to see your reactions. I won't watch the reactions of other UA-camrs besides you. Because watching you guys is really fun. Additionally, the prison door opening and blood coming out is a scene from the film The Shinning and it is very iconic 😅
The reason why you think the moves are smooth and nice, is because all these are done by real martial artists, they have the training, physical form, strength, stamina to show for it. And they train continuously as their profession. A lot of stuntmen actually get hit, kicked, smacked and fell down for real. all for work. Like Jackie Chan. All the fight scene choreography by done by Mr. Yuen Woo-ping, who is a Hong Kong martial arts choreographer and film director, and also the action choreographer of The Matrix (1999). Sad to tell you, this is the last movie that Stephen Chow acted as the main character back in 2004. There is no sequel. He directed, written and produced other movies since, but did not act as main character anymore. So you are looking at his prime moment now as actor + director + writer + producer when he is 42 years old, and as you can see, he is physically fit and martial art trained. Kung Fu Hustle (2004) is Stephen Chow's masterpiece. You guys enjoyed the comedy a lot, but it is also filled full of references paying tribute, like really a lot of references from western and eastern culture. but its understandable the new generation era from other countries would not know the references he placed in this movie, except for the english movies references, like the blues brothers, looney tunes, spiderman, matrix, the shining, forrest gump, etc. Also the movie looked really good and flows well because generally Hong Kong are masters in movie making. You guys noticed the music, sound design. But you probably did not have time to discover the creative styles and cinematography, complete with serious tone, complex story and artistic scenes. Its all beautiful work. You should watch Shaolin Soccer (2001) next since you liked Kung Fu Hustle (2004). Please get the original hong kong version (cantonese language) with original english subtitles and original cut of 113 minutes. Pls dont get the Americanized version (which is also cantonese language) but it has been cut short 26 minutes (87 mins), english overlays over chinese words, simplified english subtitles, sound effects are changed, some music are replaced with english music. Its terrible artistically. Fun fact : It is because of the success of Shaolin Soccer (2001) that Stephen Chow got his biggest budget ever to make Kung Fu Hustle (2004). Fun fact : Stephen Chow was originally supposed to direct Dragonball Evolution (2009). but it was switched to a director who has no idea what dragonball is about. Can you imagine what Stephen Chow could have created.
this shows me that you guys are not asians with all the things you two kept asking instead of waiting for the answer, i'm not blind but yeah, maybe i'm just spoiled but i like reactions that doesn't resort to ad nauseam questions to do a commentary if you can even call it that

Stephen Chow was the first man to crack the formula for a perfect kung fu movie: add some Looney Tunes. And there's a sequel coming, it's in the works.
No way! Don't be lying man
that knife throwing scene is the funniest shit ever 🤣🤣 Everytime I watch it, I laugh my as* off bruh 💀
Never laughed at a reaction of this movie this much! If you guys watch *Team America: World Police* or something similar like *Shaolin Soccer* I might just piss myself.🤣🤣
oh how cute there is still people who think reactors dont overreact and laugh for views U SO CUTE
@@YogibearXXLI believe it to the extent I was laughing my ass off. If a lie feels more true than the truth, nothing but respect to the deliverers.👍
There is news of making a sequel next year!
I mean Mad max director came out of retirment and made one of the best action movies ever made Mad Max Fury Road, so its not impossible
The Beast cell was a lot of Toads right there. Man really dedicated to Toad Technique.
57:03 "Something about a man flying in his underware is hilarious."
- must be a real fan of Superman then xD
thanks god they are more of these movies... because this was too funny.. next one gotta be Shaolin Soccer ⚽
As a kid who grew up in the 90s, Stephen Chow is the GOAT! He is all-in-one package. And personally for me, this movie is his GREATEST. I just LOVE it. I still remember my stomach felt crammed from laughing too much after coming back from the cinema. And since this movie was released in 2005, it was the era of Matrix trilogy and 1st Spiderman movie, thus the slo-mo camera movements, and the two quotes, "He is The One" and "With great power, comes great responsibility."
If I am not mistaken, mid of this year, Stephen Chow confirm that there will be Kungfu Hustle 2, but he's still ironing out lots of things, and he also has other movies to complete. But for me, I don't mind the wait, he could take his time to create another Kungfu Hustle, but please don't take too long.
The yellow guy if u actually enjoyed this movie I sure you would enjoy shaolin soccer too, the movie were also stated created and directed by Stephen chow
this and shaolin soccer: perfection
Thks for reacting! Your reactions reminded me of myself in my childhood. :)
The knife scene is classic!
I grew up watching lots and lots of Chinese kung fu movies. Trust me, there are great ones out there that no youtube reaction channel has explored yet.
Wow was really waiting for a movie like that 😭🔥thankyou fax neil you both did it .❤❤❤❤❤want to see you both live ❤❤

Donut : What are you preparing to do?
Subtitle : What are you preparing to do?
They laugh even in the serious part 😅
Watching the two of you laugh so hard almost makes me jealous. I wish i could experience watching this movie for the first time and cry laugh over and over again.
FYI, He actually said "I lost", not "Master"
That's right, im also glad that you guys also shed tears for this movie
"Big brother" is a term of respect directed to a man of status, used mostly among the triads, criminals or even regular people when they don't know where to place you at.
Stephen Chow’s other movie Shaolin Soccer is also very humorous!
3:40 😂😂😂😂😂 you thought he was gonna break his ankles . I'm dead
This is literally the best film ever made. I've seen a lot of films in my life, and this is it. Trust me.
I keep watching these kind of reaction videos cause it reminds me of my first time watching it as an 8 year old wailing on the ground out of laughter
A film by The great Stephen chow! He was the Writer, main actor, producer and director of this film.... It’s time to react on his film "Shaolin Soccer"
the fact that we're getting a sequel finally after all these years has me hyped
1:06:14 The Beast used Senjutsu, he trained on Mount Myoboku
I'm from China,I wanna say i can find lots of reaction videos to this movie, but there are more movies that i hope to see their videos,i really want to see more about how you guys think about Chinese movies
Your reactions to this movie is so much fun to watch.
Part 2 is coming next year after so long
I have achieved much amusement watching y'all nearly dying from laughter...at only 28:00 minutes in!
i know its a funny movie. But u dont need to laught at every given moment, there are some very good scenes too.
All i can hear is "What the fuckkk"...🤣🤣🤣
the intro to stephen chow where he bursts the football is a nod to his previous superhit movie, Shaolin Soccer, which is another movie that you just need to watch, since you've watched this now anyway.
The ending scene with different kungfu manuals, although there's no more further movies made from these from Stephen Chow, those manuals are actually reference to some of the more popular kungfu that can be found in various Chinese kungfu related movies/dramas.
Togashi definitely took some inspiration here for Netero's power, Dragon Dive scene and Dojo master scene, it's too damn similar.
Damn Idk that Togashi got inspiration for Netero from this movie.
Shaolin Soccer is also a legend too ❤️🔥 And another Steven Chow's movie: Journey to the West Conquering the Demons I'll also recommend to you guys🤩
Using the knife on his shoulder as rear view mirror😂😂😂
My top 3 favorite comedies ever .
1) Kong Fu Hustle .
2) White chicks.
3) Rush hour .
The translation is a little confused for "大哥 big brother”. In fact it should be translated as "SIR" which refers to "Gang Leader".
I was really waiting for the knife scene hahaha!
Neel is my favorite reactor, I've watched all his vods and was lost and found fax..collaaab!!
I know this movie has comedy but not every scene was supposed to be laughed at like the bully scene
But its still fine, nice reaction😂
This was my childhood
Closest to this is shaolin soccer
Awesome reaction. The movie that got me to Kung Fu Hustle was Shaolin Soccer, that was the 1st movie from Stephen Chow that I saw. I recomend you guys check it out. It's also funny.
I was just about to recommend that movie, lol😂
Only One thing 👆
Welcome to STEPHEN CHOW WORLD 😁😁😁
Glad you had fun watching this gem... Really hilarious.... Worth to watch it more than once.
This was way ahead of its time! Even before the mcu lol
28:18 this scene is the definition of "Bad Karma" xD
Landlady was in a Hollywood James Bond movie. No I am not talking about Michelle Yeoh.
oh lord the knife throwing secen so many bounce backs lol
FYI, the blood coming out of the elevator is a reference to The Shining.
11:32 is actually talking about Stephen Chow previous movie Shaolin Soccer.
Kung fu hustle and shaolin soccer is a must watch🤣
Must watch Shaolin Soccer 😂
This movie was MADE for Neel lmfao!
You gotta love how many stuff Stephen chow do in this movie 😂
there was a sequel announced to be filming.
Part 2 is finally in the making after 20 years.
If you like this one, I would recommend Tai Chi Zero, and it's sequel Tai Chi Hero, they're pretty good, and rather goofy too.
Ahhh this bring back a memories 😭😂😂😂
I dont think theres more movies but there is another funny one that rips hard on subs. Chozen one weeooowweeeooweeeeooo.
It's like Kill Bill and Loony Toons had a baby and named it Kung Fu Hustle 😂
9:31 “Damn” at the same time for the water restrictions.
Try Shaolin Soccer next
This movie is about
the past (real kung fu action)
the present (using wire to assist)
and the future (using CGI)
of the Kung Fu movies.
this shows me that you guys are not asians with all the things you two kept asking instead of waiting for the answer, i'm not blind but yeah, maybe i'm just spoiled but i like reactions that doesn't resort to ad nauseam questions to do a commentary if you can even call it that
