    Very helpful. Like every other video I saw on this subject, my leak was a result of frozen water.
    I second the point about using a 1/4" nut driver to remove the one screw that held mine.
    After watching the videos it took more time to gather the tools than it did to replace the part. I was lucky in that I had more room behind the bowl than other people may have.

    2 years old and probably the most helpful youtube video I've watched in awhile. Thanks for taking the time to record this headache. I didnt see the set screw on mine, and had to come in and look it up. Thanks again!

      Hey there. Thanks. By the way, I'm going to add a postscript to the video. I did come back and put that set screw in with a phillips head screw. I needed to do that to get the foot pedal to partially depress the valve so I could flood the toilet with a bit of water for #2. :) Otherwise, the valve just moves back towards the wall. :) Now I can get to that screw much easier. Good luck out there.

    Well boys I'm a almost 69 year old recently widowed - we had a like brand new camper that had been taken out 2 times before husband passed. First trip I took camper out by myself I discovered a leak in the valve. I watched the video - guess what guys that little clamp you had to take off at the beginning - I got off in 30 seconds. All I did was bend up the little piece of metal that looked like it went into a slot and then took screwdriver and lifted it up and was done :). Had to share because I took every tool out there thinking I was in for a long haul getting that off - wire cutters and everything. Nope needlenose to bend the little tab up and screwdriver to wedge it up and popped off in one piece except the little tab broke off. I did use your suggestion and get a different clamp. Other than that it was just hard to work in tight quarters. Did use 1/4 in socket to get that first screw off though. Thanks for the video it was a TREMENDOUS help - this grandma is not helpless though - I will learn new things up until I'm in the grave hahaha. Had to learn to pull this thing by myself and back it in a spot (scary part) but my grandkids are going to enjoy their grandma as long as I'm above ground.

    Thanks! I really didn't want to pull the toilet. Putting a mirror back there was a great help. Rather than cut the crimp, I was able to use a screwdriver to pry the end of the band loose from it's retainer clips fairly easily.

    Your video was great. Great in that it solved my issue and great that it cost 2 RV dealers service money. The dealers were so rude. So I came to YT to get some learning. I called the service department at the Rv place I bought my 5th wheel from and he told me to make sure my water pump was off, then to shut off the hose valve where I’m getting my city water, then run out my water in the Rv by turning in the faucets in the kitchen and bathroom, then remove the old toilet valve…which I did. Only about 1/2 cup water came out, and I was ready with a towel. It was an old style valve with no screws there, and that’s why it broke, the pincher things that lock and hold it in place- one of them was broken- that’s why the valve wasn’t being engaged, when I pressed the toilet flush pedal it just pushed the valve away because the plastic clamp was broken. So I installed the new one easily, my rig has wayyy more room besides and behind the toilet so it wasn’t a bear trying to get the old valve out and the new one in. I’m a 64 year old grandma and I did it! I feel so accomplished 😅😊 Thank you so much for this video- I couldn’t have done it without you!👍😊

    Actually, taking out the toilet is a very simple process. 2 7/16 nuts removed and just pick it up. Then you can get to the valve with no problem. Of course you have an open hole to the black water tank - bear that in mind. There is a plastic flange it bolts to. For removing and replacing the same toilet there is no wax ring, etc. like you have in the house. It can literally be done in a couple of minutes.

      thanks, I might try this way. My toilet didn't freeze, something is plugged in the incoming water line and I have to find what's plugging it. Won't flush correctly. We had our fresh water tank hot drilled to be able to use more of the water and now we have plastic shavings in our freshwater tank plugging all the faucets. Not a fun thing to work on.

    Our Shamrock 183 is a 2014 model, a hybrid, and our Camco 300 won't flush after dewinterizing, and I believe I forgot to flush the toilet last fall. I did pour a lot of antifreeze in the toilet and down the hatch and all other faucets ran pink, but forgot to flush the toilet, so probably the fresh water inside the lines froze solid. Just like you said.
    We are up in Ontario in the Toronto area, so do get proper winters. What a bummer!

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  Рік тому

      Good. I hope it helped. Indeed, you must flush antifreeze through the toilet. That stinking little valve at the back will crack with the smallest bit of water in it. I bought 2 more on Amazon as backups since this is a weak spot in the plumbing. Maybe overkill, but better safe than sorry. Happy travels.

    video was a great help. But to remove the factory clamp, I found it worked to use flat head screw driver to open the clamp. Clamp then could spin around but not move up/down. I used a needle nose pliers with a 90 degree on it to grab the clamp opening and pull it up. then the hose came off easy.

      Hi, no I haven't joined the fan club. I will look in to it. Our camper had been winterized. What a Newbie I am. LOL We got all of the faucets and toilet flushed of antifreeze. YAY Our neighbor had a pretty good tip for Newbies. When you're filling fresh water tank, turn on the water pump, then a hot water faucet for just a few seconds, then turn the faucet back off. Your water heater tank will fill, and you won't lose 6 extra gallons of precious water from the fresh water tank to fill hot water heater. Got the camper loaded for our camping trip tomorrow. Just hope our Indiana weather cooperates. Calling for rain. Spent a few hours semi preparing some of the food we're taking, including your Delicious Pico recipe. Look forward to more of your informative videos. No internet where we're camping. So will have to play catch up with E-mails and UA-cam when I get back. Thanks for all of your help. Newbie!!!!!

    I agree with Hilltown! Heading out for first time camping tomorrow in our R-W mini 2109S and towing a camper. We've been to a lot of RV shows in the past. You would always see the pink antifreeze and a sign that said winterized. I don't see any pink antifreeze in any of the sinks or toilet, and no winterized sign in our camper!! I'm wondering if our camper was even winterized. WOW after watching you having your toilet due to not having enough antifreeze in it I'm worried!! Newbie, Ellen

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      Not sure what part of the country you are from Ellen, but it's likely they didn't winterize it being new. Probably never even had water in it. It does have a bit of a taste but isn't dangerous. If your water runs clear, you have nothing to worry about. When you do your first winterizing, there will be many videos out there to show you how to do it. Pretty simple, just don't forget to flush the toilet! *LOL*

    Well mine wasn't leaking:::just no water flowing when the pedal is depressed. I could not, to save my neck, get the stupid thing to come out! I finally decided to go surfing for a UA-cam. Was relative easy to remove after removing the screw. Duh!. Upon inspection of the faulty valve, it was discovered to be stopped up. After cleaning the screen wire inside the inlet and re-installing, it seems to be working just fine now. Thanks for the UA-cam!

  • @skeetermcswagger0U812
    @skeetermcswagger0U812 4 роки тому +2

    In a situation like that it's always better to take the toilet out,... it only literally takes about a minute and a 1/2 to undo the 2 bolts on either side and unscrew the waterline and then you're free to work on that on a bench or kneeling on the floor with it on its side.....
    And if you warm up that white hose with a hair dryer sometimes you can slide it off without even removing the clamp and then quickly put it on to the other valve and once to cold water hits it it shrinks up and 'normally' won't
    leak..... But I'm not gonna guarantee that will be the case.

    • @garlandstyle5797

      OH yes. Shut the water pump off if that is on. Disconnect from City Water if you are hooked to shore water. There will be a bit of water come out of the pipe. Flush the stool after all water sources have been closed or disconnected. That will relieve a bit of the pressure on the lines. Put a towel or rag down under the connection to soak up any water loss.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 років тому

      It would be a 2 minute video. :) Seriously, you just need to have water in your hot water tank, go inside to the panel, and either flip on the Gas or Elec hot water switch. :) That simple. When connected to shore power at a campground, you would flip the switch on the hot water heater outside to ON, and use the Elec switch inside the camper. If you aren't connected to shore power, you would use the inside Gas switch. If you were outside by the hot water heater and turn on the Gas switch inside, you'd hear the burners ignite and start heating water. I guess I could do a quick video on it some day. :) But if you have questions, let me know. Thanks Ellen.

    • @janetgeal1969
      @janetgeal1969 4 роки тому

      Thanks, we also have a small hole under our gray water tank I found, and thinking of using JB Weld for that too instead of Flex Seal; bear in mind this is a used 2015 Palomino Puma 28' w/hitch. We just bought in Nov. 2019 and we're finding all kind of things we're having to fix and/or replace; it has a slide (hope we don't start getting issues with that), and an outdoor kitchen with small fridge, microwave and sink. We have to replace the antenna (can't get it to come up) prev. owner stripped the crank; also need to replace the awning cover (its electric, so we're please with that) our other 2 campers were not. Also have an issue with the water going into the fresh water tank when hooked to city water. We never fill or use the fresh water tank; always go to parks with full hook ups. Did all the tricks I've watched on UA-cam but it still fills up, except for last trip only had 2 lights on monitor for fresh water, so maybe its starting to fix itself. Hope so. Considering we paid cash for the camper, we don't mind minor fixes here and there, but its like everything I look at I find something wrong that we have to fix. Hubby says quit looking for things that need fixing; I say I'd rather find it before it gets worse. So now we're working on the commode leak; he wants to change the water attachment like you did, but its only a small crack under that attachment and it'll be hard for him to get down there on the floor and do that, so I'm suggesting the JB Water Weld stuff. Sorry I told you all my problems. Thanks for agreeing with me on JB Weld. Your video was so good, I think I can do it. Happy Camping.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  4 роки тому

      The small hole on the water tank.. Try the JB Weld, but me? I'd have let it dry completely then put a square patch of Eternabond tape over it. man, I love that stuff.
      Consider the age of the Puma. yes things will wear out and break, and faster than in a home as they aren't residential material. They are weaker, but if you are going to keep it, then repair as you would a residence not a camper.
      Stupid antenna in ours is so lame. I bought a flat panel antenna at Walmart and get SO much better reception. I did a video on that. LOL If mine broke, I'd just unplug it now rather than spend $ on fixing it.
      Water seeping into the FW tank when connected to city water is a backflow valve issue. Either inside the water pump, or at the connection outside. I'd keep searching YT for solution. I've had it happen to me once. I turned off the city water connection and remove the hose to stop pressure. Turned on the water pump and ran it a bit. Then reconnected. The water pump back flow valve closed ok, thank heavens, in the pump. Otherwise, I'd have taken it apart to check the backflow membrane. yeah, lot of info there huh? LOL
      The outdoor kitchen and fridge. I don't have one and would never own that as it is one more thing to break. I like simple. Consider that as a great storage area if they do go kaput! :)
      Get into the habit of checking everything over, seals, supports, roof, water lines, screws, bolts, and so on. You just have to do that to keep a moving earthquake home functioning. Way more than your house. It comes with the territory owning a camper. Especially used ones.
      So? The small and easy fix, temporarily anyway, is to do what I did for 2 months. Put a rag under the joint to absorb any water. Mine was only a few drips. I'd change out the rag every few days if damp. You want to keep water contact OFF the flooring. If the JB Weld works, SUPER. If it slows to a few drops, then use a rag or replace it. :)
      Honestly, if all the crap in here broke, the shell we live in is home to me. :) I could still drag it around and love it. I don't live or die over the camper, I save that for where I go and what I experience. I live for the life outside this camper. :) Michael

    No winterproofing error here. Just seem to have worn out the valve and while it's not leaking outside the toilet. it won't stop running water In the toilet. And that is a recipe for disaster!

      They are keeping it lightweight and affordable by using plastic. And Forest River will tell you that this is not a true 4 seasons camper. So it really was my own fault. :) Thanks.
