7:46 Airplants actually love humidity!🌱
Tillandsias are called air plants because they don't use any substrate to grow. They're epiphytes and use their roots when attaching to tall trees and rock structures.
Is it just me or did it seem like Alex had emotion today
Air plants need to be misted or be kept in high humidity. So they will most likely be very fine.
My air plants seem to die right after I get them!!
Bearded dragons can’t see water unless it’s moving They also can’t have red light because it mucks with the third eye thing
Alex, I literally had not been on Instagram for 6 years and I downloaded it JUST to post my one and only reptile enclosure for my Solomon Island ground boa... For your (hopefully) viewing pleasure. Pls review
I got my fake vines at Michael's. I've had them 4 years & they haven't bled. Although, they also haven't been IN my corn snakes water bowl.
To answer your question, some people don't put water bowls in beardie enclosures because it causes the ambient humidity to be way too high for them, especially when living in places with a naturally high humidity. Too high of a humidity as I'm sure you know can cause respiratory illnesses in reptiles. Instead we just mist the beardies and their food with water every day.
Also, my boy never drank from his bowl while i had it, and it was just one more thing to clean every week. lol
With regards to the "bearded dragons without water" thing - a lot of the...let's call them "facebook mom" level of bearded dragon keepers think that any humidity in a beardie enclosure is going to cause it to catch fire and explode or whatever. These same people soak their beardies weekly to keep them from being dehydrated. It's dumb.
To please both sides I have a water bowl in every other day 😂 the days with no water I give them a drink from a spray bottle. Beardie community is a strange one
Alot of beardies just don't drink from water dishes.
They don't encounter puddles of water like water dishes in the wild.
Like my beardie just doesn't drink from a water dish. I've tried multiple methods to get him to but he just doesn't care about it. Same with alot of other beardies.
@@caoka4581 I’ve never actively seen mine drink either unless I splash it on their face a bit, or floating some mealworms on the water works for me 😅
I keep a water dish large and shallow enough to drink and soak in placed right in the middle of the enclosure. My bearded loves to soak and will drink the water when she does.
@@caoka4581 I used to breed beardies in the early 2000. Had quite a few. Every single one of them would drink from a bowl if thirsty enough. Mostly just sprayed mine during shedding. Not a single one died of thirst. Just saying.

Alex, same on the magic eraser. HOWEVER we found out the contractor used FLAT paint instead of satin or semi-gloss. Flat paint is not meant for residential use and comes off when it gets wet...
Anyway... That might be your issue.
Yeah i'm pretty sure that's the issue. the paint job is terrible and rushed, luckily I want to repaint eventually anyways
@@GoHerping magic erasers are super fine sandpaper. They remove material. They CAN be "safe" on paint because it removes such a small amount of material. If whatever you're using the magic eraser on is super thin you can destroy it, because you're sanding the material. It's unfortunately not actually magic.
Yo Alex, whatever you did to your hair....keep doing it😉

Bearded dragons get all their water from their food and veggies. Very rare to see a dragon drink out of standing water bowl. Plus it increases the humidity which can cause lung issues.. Surprised you even had to ask about this honestly
I really appreciate my Herp community for continuing to educate & to help learn from past errors! (I was born cold-blooded, before the internet existed, & am very glad I never committed such errors when I was little!!🙂
I don’t use a water bowl bc I just think it’s easier to use a bottle. He doesn’t like drinking from the bowl

What kind of snakes are they?
when i give my bearded dragon a water bowl he doesn't drink it and it evaporates and messes with the humidity

Depending on who you ask, there shouldn't be a water bowl in a beardie's tank. Allegedly, it will make the humidity too high and cause beardies to get respiratory infections and make them sick or possibly kill them. My beardies do drink water, but they love to soak in their water dishes especially if they're shedding. They mostly use them as a pool. They get fresh treated water daily, but will let me know if they feel I'm making them wait too long before cleaning and refilling it. According to the No Water Bowl Group, they get all the water they need from their veggies, or misting a surface a little. My smaller beardie will do the breast stroke to splash the water all over his back.
Dude, a water dish should always be provided, it does NOT raise humidity too much.
@@Rryan8065 I actually have a dial that shows temperature and humidity, which I check daily. It depends on how hot it is, how humid the air is, how close the dish is to their heat/basking source. They haven't had any ill effects from it. Kansas vs Florida would have different limitations as an example. The humidity here is mild as opposed to coastal or rainy areas, so I can manage it rather easily.
In some places the ambient humidity of a room can be way higher than beardies can normally live in. I choose not to have a bowl of water for my beardie and he does just fine. Instead i mist him and his food every day with some water to make sure he drinks along with getting some hydration from his greens. I've never once seen him drink from his water bowl or soak in it while i had it in, and he doesn't seem to mind it being gone.
14:20 A Lot of people don't put water bowls In there bearded dragons enclosure because the humidity could get high and if the humidity gets high your dragon could get a respiratory infection
Im in florida so we have hugh humidity. Ive put a water bowl on the cool side to see if she would drink. SHe doesnt drink from the bowl. So i took it out. But if i manually offer water off a plastic lid she will drink. So i give her water after meals.
yeah it depends on where they live in the US. in humid states/areas, they won’t use a water dish; they’ll just soak their beardies but people in drier areas can get away with using a shallow water dish w/o respiratory infections
You should always have water available for your animal
@@cursedGalataea did you not read what i posted? bearded dragons are prone to respiratory infections due to high humidity as they are from Australia where it is dry. working in reptile stores in South Florida, it’s a very common occurrence that a beardie gets an RI and dies if you leave a water dish in the tank. it’s recommended to soak 2-3x a week
Same for me, humidity is around 55% and I have to put a dehumidifier in to keep it around 45% -- and that's still a bit too high for beardies. So no water dish for me! Gut loading feeder roaches and feeding him veggies keeps him hydrated
It’s taking forever to upgrade my beardies enclosure, she has been in a 40 gallon for a while but for half the time I’ve had her I’ve been trying to upgrade her, first made one out of a school project then it was thrown out by the school, teacher gave me “wood to replace what I had done” and gave me enough wood to make a 20 gallon when I was working on a 120 gallon, and now I have this dresser that im turning it into but slowly giving up on so soon I’ll have her a new enclosure to post

I feel like if UA-cam is going to censor a video of frozen-thawed mice being fed to a snake they might as well censor videos of someone eating a shrimp cocktail.

Most people don't give their beardies water bowls for 3 reasons:
1) Most beardies don't drink still water, or just shit in the bowl repeatedly
2) Causes moisture buildup, which normally in dry climates isn't an issue, but *can* become an expensive vet bill in moist climates like the southern us or the uk at literally any point in time
3) A lot of people and myself personally have beardies drink from syringes, this is helpful in that we know that they're being hydrated and provides bonding time
I personally have had a water dish for my first beardie but as it got basically no use and as I live in a very humid area, I just don't really want to deal with the bacteria caused by non-chlorinated water and poop. I have also found that i can keep better track of my beardie's hydration through manually giving them water. Also I did notice a humidity decrease through the probe I have placed in the tank, so it works for me.
Idk how to feel about the "they get all their water from their food" thing, i know some animals can do that but I personally haven't found anything concrete about beardies. I will not test this theory nor defend it as I don't really believe it nor try it.
At the end of the day, as long as people are making sure their beardie gets water that should be all that matters. Some people, like me, are just a little more cautious.
And i'm also not saying "OMG WATER BOWL BAD UR GONNA KILL UR BEARDED DRAGON" because it really just depends on so many factors.
It's really just a personal preference thing, some people do it some people don't.
Both sides gotta chill the fuck out.
Humidity between 30-60% is ideal for beardies (assuming they have proper ventilation), a water dish is unlikely to raise the humidity too much.
Hey! I just got my first baby corn snake a little over a week ago and im having trouble lowering the humidity, its been staying at about 60-65% so i got a dehumidifier, a smaller water bowl, and i was using coconut fiber but replaced it with aspen and its still staying at 60%. My last option is to get a overhead heater instead of using the heat mat but if that doesn’t help I don’t know what to do. Is there anything else i can do? Im just worried because I don’t want him to get sick, any advice would be very helpful :)
That humidity is actually perfect for corn snakes! They’re native to Florida and other humid states, after all. Make sure your hygrometer is digital, not analog. Still switch to overhead heating, though, it’s far more natural and beneficial than heat mats. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat is ideal :)

Zero creativity for maybe except two. Some people only see the basics.... walls, bowl, and hide with no top for security 😒
I have a video idea for you. there's this reptile breeder called wilbanks reptiles and they are awful. we bought a snake from them and not only was he severely underweight ( they were feeding hatchlings only once a week) he got damaged in transit and his eyes were nearly popping out. when we contacted them about it they said it was congenital (him being a bamboo butter ball python) but after his last shed his eyes are starting to look normal. they also put a thing of hand sanitizer and a bunch of merch in the same box as him and he was coming from somewhere at sea level and was getting sent to a high elevation so it could have popped and killed him. Also, nowhere on the box did it say live animal and even worse they buy 5 star reviews (getting 100 in 2 days is ridiculous when your price point is as high as it is). Just thought you could give fellow reptile lovers a heads up. even reddit forums say they're shady.
Never been tempted to submit an enclosure pic, but now I have to desire to be roasted
