Need for Speed II is a racing video game released in 1997. It is a part of the Need for Speed series and is the second installment, following The Need for Speed.

Need for Speed II features country-themed tracks from North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Like its predecessor, Need for Speed II allows players to race exotic cars in country-themed tracks from North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, either against computer-controlled opponents or human opponents via a LAN, modem, serial connection, or in split screen. There are three distinct gameplay modes: Single Race mode in which a player simply chooses a car and a course and completes a single race. In this mode, the player can customize both the number and type of opponents as well as the number of laps to be completed. Tournament Mode in which the player must complete a series of races successfully to unlock a bonus car. The Knockout Mode consists of a series of 2-lap races with 8 opponents; the last-place finisher at the end of each race is eliminated from the competition.
The game features eight real-life high-end sports cars and concept cars which the player can drive and race against. The "Special Edition" release of the game added four additional cars. In addition, the game features a "showcase" that provides photos, videos, and technical information about the cars as well as the history of each company and the background of each car's development.
The game also features several new elements compared to the previous game in the form of customizable car paint and components of their car including gear ratios, tires, and spoilers.

For me, this is the BEST NFS. The multiplayer race have a nice balance, the cars in front are slow and the ones in the back are fast.

I didn't like NfS2 (nor NfS2) much back then, but that main menu and its music are engraved on my cerebral cortex for ever.
I didn`t like NFS 2 either. Compared to NFS 1 it was a "Mario Kart" arcade game.

This game takes me back. My favourite car I played with was a white McLaren F1 and an FZR 2000
I've played this game so much, that i've discovered so much glitches in the different maps just by crashing into the sides or jumping up in some parts.

Some parts of the tracks there are intentional areas where your car will leave the map , like bridges and cliff's etc
I still remember that the reversing mechanism was so different and unique in this game unlike any other racing game ever, in order to reverse you had to press "A" and then "Z" two times and then when u press the "up" arrow key the car will start reversing, in order to bring the car into the first gear u had to do the same process again.......
Curios thing: the intro was filmed in Italy and UK

Pretty sure this was the one where you could drive weird vehicles (using cheat codes) like a T-Rex, a limo, a log, an outhouse, and a few others. My brother and I hardly "raced" we just drove around to just drive.

deadly fast...on secret codes offcourse.
There was a way to unlock FZR
You had to unlock the Hollywood map
By selecting the Road to Hollywood mode and win all the races and when you finish the final race the FZR2000 would be there
But of course cheat codes were the short way

Right up there with Moto Racer with my favorite PC games of all time. I genuine shame that after NFS 1-3, the series is now so far removed and is essentially an urban culture low-budget parody with a crappy arcade/sim racing game duct taped to it.
