I think people get confused because in most ffa type games the person I first gets and advantage that can snowball (e.g. more territory->more resources->more power->win). So people are conditioned to just attack the strongest player even ganging up to cut down the tall poppy before the game runs away from them. In mechabellum ffa it is the opposite, being top in points gets you attacked by the boss and less able to get towers. So the standard game theory for most ffa games doesn't apply but not everyone realises this right away.
Oooo FFA discussion that'd be my jam. Dono what your take is on the 1v1s, 2v2s, or technically existent single-player , but as you figure this out; but it might be a neat refocus to have, especially if you could mingle with the likes of some of the content-makin' 1v1 pros. Surray "Rat" comes to mind: A brilliant orchestrator of flanks, pushes, counters, and value analysis.
I won a game with tank, arklight, a few crawlers, melting pot and a crap ton of fangs. Stayed in second to last place till round 8 until then pulled away to win

I could recommend a couple other dudes, but Rat might actually be on the right wavelength to get along.
