    I just LOVE all you do Dr Lori! You are so AWESOME from your Real Bargains videos to well shoot ALL of them! I am learning so much and spend my afternoons at home watching your videos learning and taking notes. I have been a thrift store shopper for years and have acquired some items that have stayed up packed up in boxes because of several job moves. My goal is to set up a room in my house to start "unpacking" and seeing what things I may have that are of value by subscribing to your service. Having said ALL that..THANK YOU DR Lori for all you give of yourself and your many years of gained knowledge you are a beautiful person inside and out! God Bless!

    THANK YOU! Another excellent video. I ALWAYS share your videos. My personal peeve are people who gripe and complain about auction fees. People need to realize that auctioneers have tremendous investment in TIME and LABOR preparing for any estate auction. We are not a banana republic (yet) and merchants deserve to make a reasonable profit for their work.

    Please continue these Q&As!
    Now here's my question (more of a followup question regarding selling items to a specific niche of audience)
    Does jewelry (semiprecious and precious stones specifically) also apply to this? Since I've known certain stones and motifs made into jewelry will have more value in specific regions/locations than in other places where it doesn't hold as much regards/value to such type of stone and/or motif.
    E.G. A piece of imperial green jade carved into a Chinese Goddess of Mercy (Guanyin) accented with diamonds all in 18k WG frame, will this be more valuable in an auction held in China vs. an auction held in U.S. where this aforementioned jade jewelry is being sold?
    Also I saw some of your jewelry appraisals and you called Jadeite jade "White Jade" and I've always have been curious why you've called it that when "White Jade" is usually termed that towards Nephrite jade being white or cream colored.
    Keep up the content as I love learning from you with your signature sass you bring along!

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  4 роки тому +5

      Good questions for an upcoming Ask Dr. Lori video. They have been added to the list! With the internet and global shipping, why limit yourself to one region when selling? The person who wants to pay top dollar might be in your very own neighborhood :)

    That is really one of my biggest pet peeve‘s. Antique wooden furniture is my passion. And I always want it in the condition I find it as far as the finish goes. When I see a person take a beautiful wood good condition piece of furniture and paint it; that just breaks my heart. And then they distress it. I cannot stand watching those type of videos. Yes the end result may be very nice and pretty but I just can’t stand the thought of ruining a completely good piece of antique furniture. Just my opinion Sandy’s

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  4 роки тому +13

      Thanks for sharing! I've seen a lot of pieces of furniture ruined as far a value is concerned because people refinish quality and historic pieces.

    • @foorsandyslilacs3157
      @foorsandyslilacs3157 4 роки тому +2

      Thank you Dr. Lori for answering me so fast I never expected that. I don’t know why but I have always had a passion for real wood furniture. I don’t get why people go out and spend money on those particleboard wood fake pieces of furniture, when you can find some very nice pieces of real Wood furniture that won’t fall apart in a year. If you look hard enough you can find something that would cost just as much. And of course it was constructed better back then. I cannot resist buying a piece even knowing I probably don’t have a place to put it. But believe me I’ll find a spot rather than get rid of it or paint it.

      Totally agree

    • @changedforgood5761
      @changedforgood5761 4 роки тому +4

      I would think this would be determined by your region as well. Where I am at the good condition wood furniture might sell for $50 regardless of its actual value, slap a coat of chalk paint on that same piece and it now sells for $250 - $300 dollars.
      My neighbor does this with furniture, as much as she loves the natural beauty of the piece she still needs to pay her bills and feed her family so she does what sells. She does not like painting the pieces but it's what drives her income.

The back is good on all of them, and retro-looking, yet the seats are cracking and separating at the seat cross bars/arm rests. Can wicker be restored (and is it worth it), and could it have value if it is damaged wicker?

    You know the more I watch your videos tomorrow I appreciate and value your expertise and your knowledge and I think in my opinion money that you get for appraising is not your true value as your knowledge is above many people. And I hate to say this and I don't say this to put people down because there's a lot of good appraisers but I honestly have not seen that in my hometown they kind of hum and hah and guess but. I'm not saying this to put them down or put you up on a pedestal I'm just saying the facts as how I see it and you're very humble person and I know you don't underestimate your value that's for sure you don't even portray that in any of your videos but you are kind enough to give people good deals on your appraisals I hope they appreciate you and I hope they appreciate that what you're doing for them is truthful and that's hard to get nowadays sometimes people don't like to hear the truth. Yes I just wanted to tell you that my dad used to say the truth to me when I was a kid about certain things and I'd cry and I said to my dad why do you have to say that. Amy says what am I supposed to do lie to you sometimes the truth hurts. He says would you rather me hurt you and tell you the truth or would you rather me lie to you??

      So here’s my opinion of the ever so lively and beautiful color, “gray”. Haha. I’m 66 years old. When I was 6 or 7, my sister had to have a lot of physical therapy. This was done inside a local hospital. No outpatient PT clinics in 1961. All the walls were gray and it was dismal to say the least. As a kid, I hated that a hospital couldn’t come up with a better color. My bedroom was a beautiful yellow and our formal dining room had chinese red patterned wallpaper that was absolutely gorgeous. My parents had some memorable dinner parties in that room! Anyways ... fast forward to 2020 and, everything is grey. Seriously, I cannot believe that anyone would want to be surrounded by that color all day let alone their furniture. When it comes to furniture I’ll take the beautiful Davis cherry furniture that dominates my parents home. Bought in 1965 and still looks like the day it was delivered. Gorgeous, highest of quality and weighs a ton! That’s the good stuff!

    Hello Dr. Lori, I see in this video that on the table you have a bottle of Evening in Paris probably either the lotion or the powder. I have been collecting this cobalt blue bottle of perfumes since I was 12 years old that makes me have been collecting it for 54 years if my math in my head is right. I must have well over 1500 pieces. And almost all of them still retain their contents or are full. When I branched out and started collecting the manufacturers line of fragrances which is Bourjois. I thought I had most of the different fragrances collected and then I found a booklet that a eBay seller had online and boy was I wrong. I even have some pieces that are not listed in their books. Since the Internet I have hardly ever seen any in an antique store or flea market anymore. Even online is getting very Tough. Sorry if this is such a mess I’m using voice texting. I am now collecting this for my grandchildren and my nieces since I have so much. Is there any value in this line of fragrance. They did make some unique pieces shipped in these like Eiffel tower , eggs, grandfather clock, and a Toby jug that is very hard to find and then if you do it is extremely expensive. They also have made several specialty pieces for Christmas. I have photographs of the ads showing a lot of these pieces. And a lot of these pieces I have never seen in person or online. I have no intention of selling any of it, I’ll let them do that if they want. I just wanted to know what your opinion is on this, I have been told this is the most highly collectible fragrance on the market. Thank you for your consideration. Sandy

Another of their most common pieces is the bullet shaped bottle that usually has a tassel on top to be carried in your purse. You talked about Gold marking, I assume that silver is different. I understand that silver was marked 925 beginning in 1970, or it was established as a standard in 1970, and before that it was called Sterling, especially before 1940. I have some silver jewelry that is not marked at all, but I believe it was made before 1970. It is turquoise Jewelry and is silver, and may not be 925/1000, but is still silver w/turquoise. Not to be ungrateful, but it never fails if I receive flowers, I'm looking at "why didn't they strip those roses; who uses frogs any more, and they didn't make a proper bow!" All I see in my head, is how to make a proper arrangement. What about you? Do you love a particular artist, or a specific gem (I know your a garnet girl), or a collection of perfume bottles, jewelry from a specific era. Do tell! Thanks for your videos, I love them all! They do inspire. God's blessings on your holidays.

      People who shop with me say I'm not easy to shop for but I think that's a cop out. Get me jewelry and it's all good. I am not only a garnet girl (January 11 birthday) but I am a diamond, ruby, emerald, pearl, jade, opal, amethyst, aquamarine, coral, cameo, anything girl! LOL I love costume jewelry or fine jewelry. I like casual stuff too -- sweatshirts and fishing rods as much as jewelry--lol. But, yes, my years of appraising objects and being an art critic makes me highly critical when I see all types of items. I love items that reference history as they are special, interesting, and valuable. Thanks for your interesting question. Happy holidays.

    Why does your company site say you have 63 employees? If you are the one answering questions directly when people sign up for a membership, it seems contradictory. I’d like to sign up but the information conflicts.

      I can help you with a lot of things, but I think Goodwill is best to answer questions about how to use their app :) When you find that jewelry, I can tell you the bargains you got :)
