I’ve found amazing items in the trash. This wasn’t one of the high priced things I’ve found, but the coincidence is pretty amazing. A couple of years ago, I found a gift card that was still redeemable for a $50 dinner at a very good restaurant in my area. The amazing thing was that the issue date on the card was the month and day of my birthday! I used the card to treat myself to a wonderful steak & lobster dinner with an excellent desert. It was clear someone had thrown it away as it was in a bag with a bunch of junk. Now, this next story is not about trash items, but books. I love books and sell a lot of them online. Again a couple years ago, I was in a thrift store and was looking through the book section. I was flipping through the pages in one book and lo and behold! I found a $100 bill! Yes, it was real and not counterfeit. I have so many stories of finding things just walking around; e.g., silver earrings (one with diamonds) in parking lots, a high-end, brand new drone next to a dumpster, a perfectly good motorized scooter also by a dumpster, expensive cameras, etc. One time (and this is astonishing), I was working on a stationary bike at a gym. I happened to look in the middle of the floor about 10 feet away and saw some paper money. It was just sitting there - a big wad of it! I tried to discreetly pick it up and brought it to the locker room and counted it. It was $2,200! I’ve done the right thing whenever I’ve found items by putting out ads and waiting if someone claims the stuff. With the $2,200, I called the gym’s management and asked them if someone had recently reported any valuable lost items. They said no. I told them to call me if someone did and I waited one month. I never heard from them so I kept the money. I’ve also found money in people’s clothes, furniture, boxes of stuff, magazines, other books, on the ground outside countless times, and more.

Hi Dr. Lori. Love your videos and watching you appraise things that you get excited about. I need to send a picture of a I guess a side table. It was at my great grandmas house and I remember being a very young child and admiring it. She passed I think in 1975 and my aunt had the table and was told when she was done it went to me so back in May it came to me. My aunt passed in July. Since I got the table I have been told it belonged to my great grandmas mother and maybe her mother. It is beautiful and I love it.

Hey there woman ! Just really dig the way you tell it like it is ! And your no bullshit straight up brass tack it is what it is attitude ! Much respect ! XXX
I’m finding that compared to a of couple years ago, thrift stores are now picking out and keeping most - if not all - of their items that are worth anything and do not put them out on the floor anymore. I’m guessing the managers are now trained to identify these items. I used to find gold, silver and other jewelry and/or precious gems, original paintings, vintage kitchenware...etc. Not so much anymore. Plus, in my area, thrift stores, especially the Goodwill, have raised their prices such that it’s almost not worth it to shop there anymore.
Have you watched my videos? Thrift stores and places like Goodwill are missing stuff all the time. Pieces are even marked and they are missing the marks or maybe just not bothering.

I used to be so embarrassed when my husband would stop the car 'anywhere' to pull something out of the trash! I thought I would die. ;-). Then one day I was walking up the street to the local market and saw a cute little wooden child's sled on the trash pile - looked like something you'd see in a 1920's postcard. I had to have it - lol! I carted it home and of course my husband chides me to this day for trash picking. :-)
@@DrLoriV yep! No brand so maybe it was handmade. But it's so cute - with the handrails and back rest. :-) Looking at eBay and such - I doubt it's valuable - but it's still worth more than I paid, as you always say. :-) And the kidding factor from my husband, 30 years later, makes it priceless. :-)

Nice Mario Lopez sconces. I have a Mario Lopez lamp, with the Toucan and Parrot. It's in perfect shape and works...$7 at a thrift store. He made some very nice animal motif furniture...like monkey tables and such. I've even seen room dividers too. The larger pieces I've seen priced well over a few grand.

I do online Auctions that are local to my area. I purchased 2 Candlesticks that were listed as EPNS Base. So, no one bid I bought them for 2 bucks. When I was looking for similar ones online I found a short pair that looked exactly like my base. But, their's was marked on the outside at the bottom, Birks Sterling. I couldn't see anything on mine until I used a silver cleaning cloth and rubbed along the edge, yep, Birks Sterling with a EPNS weighted base. I'm going to have to become one of your members Dr. Lori. Prices are all over the place for these and what I find are ones that are 3 inches tall. Mine are about 7.5. I think I did ok?
I help a lot of resellers make money! For example the person in this video with the wall sconces recently resold them at my appraised value. As far as prices being all over the place, I tell you why in an upcoming Ask Dr. Lori video so stay tuned.

Hi Dr. Lori. Talking about SPODE: I have 2 Boxes of Spode Christmas Tree dinner plates (also have Bread & Butter Plates) and the green rim is cracking and FALLING OFF. It is sharp and dangerous. How can I return them to the company? I cannot find a contact number for them in the USA, and I have no idea where they were bought- they were a gift (a vintage gift)- But They aren't new either, and they were never used. There is not a single utensil mark on any of them, they are in pristine new condition except for the green rim cracking and falling off.
No receipt, don't know when or where you purchased them? Have you thought about reselling them stating their current condition? Someone might need your good pieces to replace their broken or missing pieces.
Hey Dr. Lori. Do you have any knowledge on Sammy Robinson? He is a First Nation carver in Kitamat BC. We have a piece by him. He sculpted a piece for Alcan that was presented to retiree's. I can find no info on the plaque or him. If you know maybe we can arrange a picture or someone who does. You are fantastic.

Hi dr lori, how do you appraise one of a kind objects that have don't have a sales record? For example, i have some falconry equipment that belonged to a very famous falconer. I don't have any intention of selling them, but would it be possible to get appraisal in future, or would that be impossible until there is some sort of sales record.
Hmmmm I would love a bag, a big one that I could bring with me shopping so it must close on top:and maybe reads- Ask Dr. Lori. Bag must have pockets 💜😝 💜🥰
Dr. Lori, for the first story about the 3 MCM set of tables, so you say if it’s a set of anything to buy, I understand what you mean by that. Now let’s say he wanted to sell those 3 tables you appraised at $2000, but there’s 2 buyers and one wants 2 and another wants 1. Would that change the value of his sales price for the tables? Or would he be able to price them higher to the buyers?

@Theresa Garland. Dr. Lori has absolutely beautiful porcelain skin.
Thanks for sharing. Always love a good treasure hunt success story.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for subbing! Don't forget to share links with friends, families and groups.
Loved the sconces, loved the framed piece with the two women, and especially love that sterling silver English tea set. I love tea sets because they always make me envision the tea tables they sat upon, and the people who drank that tea. I’m a sucker for things that get my imagination going. Thanks for yet another fun vid.
Happy you enjoyed it! An update on the sconces, the person who found them told me that they just sold them at my appraised value!
Love your stories! And how you connect them to learning.
Thank you so much! Please share links to the videos you love with others :)
Yes the finds are out there!
You grew up like I did....my grandmother was 1 of 9....we were surrounded by family on the same street...
Cool I sometimes get free stuff from road sides and trash too.
Thrifting now! 😃
And you didn't bring me along using a video call?
very fun knowldge
Another great video with great information. Thank you. I'm sharing it. 😊
Thanks for sharing!!
Another great video,,Thank you Dr. Lori,,I would have picked up the dog pic and the wall sconces because I love animal things,,who knew, besides you, that they would be worth so much!
Thanks for watching! The person who found the sconces just told me that they sold them at my appraised value!!

Great show! I could listen to you all day! LOL, I "have" watched you all day! I didn't realize you had news spots in the morning news shows, I love them. Love your enamelware coffee/teapots, we don't see very many of them in the southern markets. Thanks a million for sharing your awesome, interesting knowledge.
Thanks for watching and for subbing to the channel. Yes, currently I have many videos from my appearances on TV morning shows. Sometimes 3 or 4 a week. Use the binge link ua-cam.com/play/PL384695BCA1841B8F.html since it will show all my new recent videos from other channels. The 80s were awesome period!
I just love your real bargains! I found half of a Lalique Vibration box. Is it worthless? It could be used as trinket jewelry holder but I’m not sure if it’s sellable.
I can appraise your piece. Send me Photos. Use the form on my website.
Thank you for this video Dr. Lori!

Glad you like them! Got an update on them from the person who found them. They sold at my appraised value!
@@DrLoriV I'm sure it did!!! I'm also excited because I found that blenko lemonade set for 12.00 this summer! Great find!! I love bargains...but I cant seem to part with my finds.
Talk more about your Italian background please! You forgot about plastic on the sofa
You're awesome, Lori! Thank you so much! Great video!
Thank you so much! Appreciate you subbing!
Another great video. I love those wall sconces!!
Thanks for watching! Update on the video, the person resold them at my appraised amount!
Thanks Dr Lori always interesting! Back in the day when my kiddos were young l would always drive around and check out people's trash. Fun finding treasure and embarrassing the kids!💖
Do any of your kids look through the trash now :)
@@DrLoriV hahaha 😄 they do indeed!
@@gigigoodwitch8198 Do you now have grandkids that are embarrassed? Could be your legacy :)
@@DrLoriV I do know that the grandkids love my "ancient " things! I was telling my husband today that I need to get on your special program, so I can start getting some of my things appraised!💖

Thanks, you too!
When you give a value, does that mean if sold to a collector? And how would people sell their finds? On ebay?
Hi Dr. Lori. I went to Hamden High class of 1967! Did you have relatives in East Haven? I had an old friend named Sheila Verdarame.
No.
Hi Dr.
Love your ideas
Excited!
Really enjoy your videos!!! So informative!!! I am also curious about the Kermit frog in your videos!!! A very dear friend of mine collected them!!!
Kermit gets his due in an upcoming video, stay tuned :)
Wow! Nice
Can’t wait for more of your videos👍💯

Hey Dr.

In some cities in Ohio, we are NOT allowed to go thru "garbage". We have to ask the owner's permission to go thru it.

Glad you liked it!!
I appraise one of a kind items.
Thank you!
You bet!
Great information as always

Please do a video on repurposing furniture. :)
You're so awesome. Thank you!
I will show you what to look for, what's valuable, and what to safely repurpose and redo. So much fun.
Good question! I'll save this for an upcoming Ask Dr. Lori video so I can address it in more details and other others can hear the reselling tips.
I have a photo of a print and I want to know if I should buy it. Best way to do this?
I help a lot of people before they buy. I can look at photos sent using a form on my website.
