  • The Queer Yearning of Clawhauser (Zootopia) || With the release of Zootopia Plus and the short "So You Think You Can Prance" letting Clawhauser express his queer desires through his adventure with Chief Bogo, the queer yearning of Clawhauser in Zootopia can be further explored for the queer audience that are already enamored with the two, including seeing the possible implications of how queer yearning plays a role in the movie, and fiction as a whole as a result.

No, it’s just Disney’s woke pandering. That’s the only reason any characters who aren’t cis straight white male ever appear. Definitely can’t be genuine changes from an increasingly diverse team. Minority demographics don’t exist in real life and so they shouldn’t exist in my media.

I read Clawhauser as queer the moment I saw him on-screen because he's a character that is basically if my real life best friend was an animated cheetah. It's that uncanny, cause they act so similar and have the same mannerisms. I definitely get the impression that the team behind Zootopia were shipping Bogo/Clawhauser. Clawhauser being queer adds another layer to his line in Zootopia where he said, “predators like me are being kicked out” I’m paraphrasing. But you could see that as also meaning being discriminated for his orientation.
I really liked that Zootopia didn’t code any one species with a race, gender, orientation, etc. There were many places you could see the importance of intersectionality in social issues.

I also feel as though *Galinda* is very much queer yearning. Yeah, she dated Fiero for a bit and seemed attracted to him, but at the end of the day she mourned Elphaba, and I believe she only dated Fiero because that was what's expected of her (popular girl dates popular guy). I kind of wished her and Elphaba ran away together in the end, instead of it being Elphaba and Fiero. Not to diminish the relationship between Fiero and Elphaba (both the Wicked Witch and Good Witch seem to be heavily bi-coded, and if not bi then at least queer-coded in general), but her and his relationship didn't seem as fully fleshed out as her and Galinda's. I watched a video diving into that, and when they talked about ques in songs signifying romance/falling in love between Fiero and Elphaba, the musical used those sound ques *so many times* with her and Galinda, where as they used it once with Elphaba and Fiero; I think maybe two clear scenes of this sound que between the two women is when Galinda chose to approach Elphaba on the dance floor, and when Galinda realized just how pretty Elphaba was after her song 'Popular' (a.k.a bi awakening song lol). I do think Elphaba liked Galinda back as well, especially with her whole entire 'Defying Gravity' song, which felt not only like 'I don't give a damn about what others think about me, not even you Galinda' song, but also a 'But please run away with me' song. When Galinda didn't reciprocate because, well, eVeRyBoDy TaLkS, I believe that is when Elphaba tried to quell her feelings for the Good Witch and decided to run away with Fiero, because that option was not only easier (Fiero loved the death out of Elphaba), but also more socially acceptable. [or maybe they all should've become a throuple, idk lol]

I think the reason why I can easily pair Clawhauser with Bogo is because they have a positive dynamic. Bogo doesn't judge Clawhauser's interests or obsessions, and even secretly takes part in a few obviously. He doesn't also put any negativity on Clawhauser's physical abilities or appearance, he's his friend because he's his friend. Bogo also is clearly more comfortable being himself around Clawhauser, calling himself "stunning" and willingly changing appearance to complete "the mission". I feel that Bogo *knows* Clawhauser wouldn't make fun of him for whatever reason, and that's a rarity in a male-to-male friendship dynamic, especially when both are in law enfortcement and "feelings" have no place in the workroom.

My queer yearning experience as an aro/Ace (if it qualifies) is that I yearn to fall in love or have sexual attraction to others. Romance and sex is practically advertised in every single thing, so much so that it feels like psychological warfare. I used to pretend to have crushes and stuff because I always loved romance books n’ stuff. The idea of a significant other is nice, but I just can’t truly see it ever apply to myself, nor do I truly want it either. damn, this made me think about this girl I had a crush on a few years ago. she was my first queer crush and the last crush I had while identifying as a girl, and I wanted so badly to be with her. i did everything for her -- picking up her stuff from her ex-boyfriend's house, dropping everything to hang out with her, helping her with homework, taking classes I don't need to graduate just so I could be near her. i tried so desperately to get her to see me as an option, but i realize now that I could never have been one. as myself now, or as I was then. i broke my own heart over a girl who could never return my affections.

"Though, to be fair, if we were going with furry generalisations, foxes would be stereotyped for something completely different." I guffawed. (As a pine marten, there are too few of us for there to be a stereotype, but we do seem to all follow each other on Twitter.)
Honestly, queer yearning is a theme I've always enjoyed in fiction-or, well, less "enjoyed" than "felt empathetic pain over." The core subtext of adolescent queer yearning in Night on the Galactic Railroad, another piece of furry-adjacent animated media, is part of what makes it one of my favourite films ever, along with how it handles grief as the flip-side to that longing. So often longing is deeply intertwined with loss in that way, whether the loss of realising that a friend will never quite look at you in the way that you look at them, or even if they should look at you the same way… welp, I'm not gonna spoil the film! It's nice when it ends in some small victory, though, as it does in this short… initially. The film's plot builds in the sting, as you so aptly demonstrated. In any case: Neither example here may be explicit, but I dunno, with something like this, the metaphor is strong enough in itself, with both its edges in tact.
Also, as two bonus rounds for queer yearning, and very furry indeed, in the form of two very unique concept albums: The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe by Patricia Taxxon (an absolute emotional wrecking ball); and Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest (particularly the messier, weirder 2011 "Mirror to Mirror" version).

welp. it turns out im smack dab in the middle of my own queer yearning story. theres a guy im pretty smitten with who seems perfect for me in nearly everyway, but he has a boyfriend already and weve only talked online. theres still some hope because hes not too content with his relationship, and he shares similar feelings for me, and well be meeting up for a convention soon.. but if he doesnt figure out what he wants after weve met in person, i think ill just have to accept we wont be anything more.

Thank you for making a video like this! As per the homework assignment, I’d like to share with the class, if you don’t mind, a story about a “friend of mine.”😉
So I have this friend who, just a month ago, had his first kiss (ever) with another guy. And it was the other guy’s first kiss too. There was happiness, fearlessness, and pure comfort in the magic of that night. And for two days, my friend was on actual cloud nine. Now, the other guy has a girl that he’s been close to, and while he does care about my friend, he admittedly is an asexual who, as he puts it, “isn’t a relationship type of guy”. Anyway, I’ll spare you guys the details of my friend’s struggle to get this guy to admit to liking him as more than a friend, and of the frustration and confusion that my friend feels about this guy, because, after I showed this video to him, he realized that he was, in fact, yearning for the other guy. He understands now, and he will try to find someone worthy of his time and affection.
…Is it too late to join the class, sir? I would very much like to sit down and listen to more of what you have to say.😊❤

Despite how it kinda stings their relationship at the time, I do think Bogo’s surface level disregard towards Clawhauser, when the predators were being outcasted, makes sense narratively and makes the moment for when they finally get together all the more sweeter.
When Bellwether was mayor, society’s expectations flipped entirely. Bogo now lived in a zootopia that outcasts predators, and as a result, he is pressured, as a police chief, to not display any affection towards what society deems as a bad thing. However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still personally care for people who are predators. Seeing Bogo rush to Clawhauser when he requested backup, in the short, tells us that Bogo always did care for him, but he was just unable to show it when society was forcing him to isolate from predators. And this makes sense, since Bogo is a character that hides his emotions 98% of the time and does so to abide by society’s expectations.
Now, when Bogo finally sheds free of his pressures and sees Clawhauser in a way that Clawhauser always wanted Bogo to see him, Bogo’s pressured stoicism breaks and he finally is able to be happy, something almost never seen prior.
And while Clawhauser’s failure to make Bogo notice him at first does emanate the tragedies of most queer yearnings, I feel like Clawhauser still succeeding in his goal tells an even more important lesson, that no matter how many times you you fail, you should always get up and try again, because eventually someone will see you in how you always wanted them to.

The clawhauser episode was my fav because it definitely gives us a glimpse of what the relationship between bogo and claw would be like. I was kinds bummed out that it was just a dream. However, they would make a cute couple. I just hope that they would make a series that would only involve them but of course you have a lot of conservatives that may be against that but at the same time, a part of me is like: y'all gonna have to deal with this because the world is changing and there's nothing you can do to stop us.

so my favorite horror movie of all time is Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys, and it was more or less my introduction to queer yearning in multiple ways. it was pretty much my queer and polyamorous awakening back in the day, and my gender awakening more recently, not to mention that the plot itself is RIDDLED with queer yearning. Michael's desire to fit in, his draw to the rebellion and sex appeal of the vampires, David's barely subtextual seduction of Michael down to the literal line "my blood is in your veins"

At some point I need to write about queerness. It's just so intrinsic to my understanding of relationships both romantic and familial that seeing something like this just makes me glad others are there to share that family trauma and can be there to help each other get through it. Well 2 stories that are basically one, when i was in high school i fell in love with a guy, who was repressed to a comedic degree, he was the only one i midly felt safe and conected to, and he kinda felt the same way, we used to lay on the grass behind the school building, he had troubles trusting people, and even had an abrasive personality to help keep walls up but he told me about his past bulling, how he got into fitness was because people, bullied him because he was a chubby boy, i was and still am a chubby boy so boy if i could relate, and it got to a point i asked if he´d ever trust again, he told me that's for the gays weird but i let it pass, one time he went to my house after we came from seeing one of his soccer matches, he was soaked because of the rain, but i wasn´t because he lend me his jacket, i told him to shower and get changed, so he went to the bathroom, while i prepare tea with lemon and honey, he got out of the bathroom asap, i asked if there was something wrong, he didn't told me anything and he just left, wet clothes on and all, next day at school i heard him talk to the popular kids of the class how he thought i was gonna assault him, i felt insulted, and heartbroken, keep in mind that he didn´t have a good relationship with the popular kids until now, and i was just passing thru so i find it sus, i don´t know if i did something wrong, or it was him, but i`ll probably never get my answer, just that i was a kid with a crush and maybe a wild imagination, or too much hope for someone that still needed more time, And second story i kinda wrote a lot in the pandemic, so i wrote a story/ show concep based on this, the protagonist has a crush on this guy since season 1, and this guy makes comments and remarks of how straight he is and at the next moment he is doing the gayest shit imaginable, so the protagonist has this hope in his head that this guy one day will figure it out that he is not straight and they will fall in love and be together, but it the third season it´s revealed that he is in fact not gay, but a lesbian trans woman, he was right, she was not straight and he ended up helping figuring herself out, yet he'll never be with them, all that yearning for someone that might never even existed.
(Forth season is the character's maturity and while i'm not sure if they'll end up as friends or acuaintances they are okay and at peace with the outcome)

Ok this is my own queer yearning story that’s still going on and I know will have a tragic ending to this but I’ll be okayyyy. Anyways; I met someone on an app (not a dating app) and we started talking and we bonded over naming our cats after Greek gods (I have two cats; Hades and Aphrodite they have one cat; Aries) we really bonded over so many things. We talk on a regular basis, calling each other cute and hot whatever, always talking about our day and how we wished we could be closer. Our tragedy? We live on opposite sides of the country, both are which very conservative. I really crave a romantic feeling towards them and they might too but but we both have really weird commitment issues so we know we can’t be together and if we are it’s not gonna be for a long time

MOOMINVALLLY MOOMINVALLLY MOOMINVALLY! My lord Moomintroll and snufkin! even if it’s not really new ( but it does have a 2019 show). Moomintroll and snufkin are best friends that would also yearn for each other but their problems. 1. Snufkin is more of a nomad and like to be alone and travel. Moomintroll however like to be with people he loves and want snufkin to stay with him or he goes with snufkin.
    2. Moomintroll is dating a girl because he feel like that the right thing to do since he desperately wants to be like his parents, but finds himself more in love with snufkin. This also hurt snufkin because he’s cares for moomintroll but doesn’t feel like it’s the right thing because it might take away his freedom. So it’s like this back and forth thing.
They both yearn for each other and I really do think it would turn out great because the writer is gay and always wanted these two boys to get together, but since at the time she made it, it wasn’t accepted. She also was in the same situation because she was marry to a guy, but was in love with a girl. This writer is Tove Johnson and she wrote the books Moominvally, it’s really good.

From both the parents side but also from the school side. It is very much we are going to teach you the right way think and behave. The first side with the villianous parents is more obvious and inteaded in the story. The second the the school is doing the same thing showing them how they should act if they want citizenship and be allowed off the villian reservations might be less obvious to some. Would enjoy to know your thoughts and appologize if you already covered this topic and I missed the video.
