My Dyson Vacuum Has Lost Suction (No Suction from Base or Hose)

- In today's quick tutorial I talk about why my Dyson vacuum has lost suction. In this video, I demonstrate a common clog in many upright Dyson vacuums including my Dyson Ball Animal 2.
There is something called the change valve which switches suction from the wand or hose to the base or roller. This has a tight bend in it and can easily clog from pet hair, debris or even a small children's sock. If this valve is clogged or stuck, it will not drop or lift as it is designed to. So if you notice you no longer have suction when switching between the roller and wand or hose attachment, check to see and make sure this valve is switching properly when you drop the arm down or lift it up. Many times, you can easily see an obstruction preventing this from working properly.
Once cleared, you should have full suction back on your Dyson vacuum!

Life safer! There was no suction on my Dyson. Tried everything and found this video. Easy step by step guide to getting inside the ball chamber. I found a pencil stick that was stopping it from switching funnels. Saved me buying a new hoover

thanks man... just found this vacuum on the side of the road. cleaned it up but wasn't sucking. saw your video and a pack sharpie was stuck in there. took it out and good as new. thanks man. Jesus bless you and hope you get saved

OMG, Thanks. I had a little stick stuck in my dyson so it would not switch over. This helped me find it after I watched sooooo many others that did not show this.

Your video, however, went to an area that non of the orhers even mention!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I found somehow I had a wooden clothes peg stuck in that area and once I'd removed with a pair of needlenose pliers and replaced all the parts (filter, cover and front brush) the vacuum now works as good as new.

This is 100% what my issue is. Mine still won't fully engage, I can push it into position and it stays but it only goes half way.

@@JMGENTERPRISES Do the hoses come off in the ball? The vacuum appears to not have any obstructions, I can push a cat toy stick thru the curved area and side area in addition to seeing straight down the hose. It appears the mechanism is functioning properly according to your demo so I can't think of anything else.

Check the compartment collection filter. Many times that filter has scrunched down and blocked the air flow. The new dyson animal ball turbo is nuts. I just got it and it's amazing.

I get clogs in 2 places usually I have to remove floor head and usually where the head connects in there it can become bocked , the other location is on the back at the bottom between the wheels there is a red clip that can be pulled back and you can extend it a little in there it can become blocked. The nice thing I found with Dysons is that you can usually take most of pieces apart easily to get to where the clogs are and get the vacuum reassembled very easily/quickly.
I haven't had any clogs in the roller assembly yet but that is good to know! Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I like that Dyson's can easily be taken apart. Makes things so much easier :-)

The internal flip hose assembly on my vacuum is broken. I called the Dyson service phone number today and was told that this part is not available for purchase by an owner of a Dyson vacuum. It can only be repaired at a Dyson Service Center.
I would check ebay if your Dyson is no longer under warranty. The 5 year warranty should cover any out of pocket expenses

Hi, great video but I'm still trouble shooting. I looked over a Dyson Total Clean vacuum, new hose, filters look good, no apparent obstructions in any of the hoses nor wand nor in the roller bar area itself. I'm not getting suction thru roller bar area nor at the hose handle. When everything is removed and I turn it on the Motor sounds good and at the top of the ball is very strong suction & air exits the side where the filter attaches. I feel no suction where the roller bar attaches. I have tried both handle positions (upright & down) I am baffled cause I see no obvious issues, the part you mention in this video appears to be in working order. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance : )
I'm at a loss too 😕 Sounds like everything I would check, you checked. Dysons have 5 year warranties and even are reasonable to fix and pay if your outside the warranty period. I would reach out to them!
Mine isn’t sucking when I pull the hose out. I took the straight neck off and there is a red plastic ball in there. It doesn’t move. But is it supposed to be in there?
Have you made sure the switch valve is raising to the hose as I show in the video?
I followed your instructions and found a loose seal. Not sure if it’s related or how to replace it

What if you have suction from the hose but not under the vacuum?
Still check the valve I talk about in my video. It could be the suction is stuck on the hose position
My suction hose doesn't fully go down to the base part while changing from stand posting, any advice how to get it to drop properly?
@@johnlevins98 This usually happens if there is an obstruction in the tube. Have you looked to see if anything is preventing it from going to the base? Is the seal damaged or warped?
