They preview starts at 17:07 minutes. In hindsight, this could have been so much shorter and to the point but I'm not known for my brevity. The history behind the success of popular modern North American lock pick sets is this... 2000s, Southern Specialties, a tool and die company starts focusing on lockpicks and locksmith tools. 2007, Longhorn Lockpickers in Austin, Tx is started by Jgor. 2008-2010 Longhorn Lockpickers make contact with Southern Specialties to create a tension set and a pick set for their group. *I do not know who originally created the Longhorn Tension Set. Jgor regularly went to DEFCON as well as Christina Palmer, I don't know which was responsible for the design of those tools. But they knew each other for sure thanks to DEFCON. 2014-2016 TOOOL creates a pick set with Southern Specialties based on Christina Palmer's consultation which was a 12 Piece set in 301 Full Hard. 2020 TOOOL creates their Necessary 9 V1 set, with double ended turning tools, similar or same as the Longhorn Tension Set, and is still using Southern Specialties in 301 Full Hard. 2020 Robert Pingor leaves Core Group to create Covert Instruments. The Genesis set is made by Southern Specialties in 301 Full Hard, and is inspired by the TOOOL Necessary 9 V1 and 12 Piece set, using Christina Palmer designs. 2022 Covert Instruments changes manufacturers and starts making their own tools out of 301 High Yield (2x stronger). 2023 TOOOL changes manufacturers from Southern Specialties to Covert Instruments to make tools for them, which is now the Necessary 9 V2 Set in 301 High Yield. 2023 Jimy Longs creates a basic set for the SAINTCON, which was 4 profiles and 4 top of keyway tensioners in 301 High Yield. 2024 Jimy Longs creates a basic set for mass distribution using Christina Palmer design tensioners and tools that have been popularized from HPC, TOOOL and Covert Instruments Sets. 2024 I consult for Multipick on sets that are affordable and practical for beginner lockpickers based on the success of the TOOOL Necessary 9 V1 and V2, and the Genesis Set and FNG Set from Covert Instruments, and the Jimy Longs Basics Set. I honestly can't remember if the Southern Specialties Classic 2500 Pick Set is the Original Longhorn Set or not, but the Longhorn Tension Set is the first and original of the Christina Palmer design that I'm aware of, I just don't remember what input Jgor (Jonathan Gordon) had on those, if they were originally his design or her design alone and just used by him. I cant remember and I cannot get ahold of Jgor anymore. But the history is close to enough to explain the evolution of these popular tools and why the modern sets are so similar today. Essentially the tools we use today, are much better, and minimalist compared to the tools offered 30 years ago, which had more "fluff" and random profiles with no real purpose, and redundancies with no real purpose. The tools I have selected for these sets are the most popular and most commonly used profiles and tensioners used in lockpicking for the last 15 years by far. Flats, Rounds, and double ended tensioners, what more do you need? I'm sure my history was a little off and I miss spoke a few times with dates and names, but I hope this explains my reasoning for this tool selection that I consulted on for Multipick.
Interesting. I know very little about the history of the sport. I remember 15+ years ago when i picked my first padlock with a paperclip and a tensioner made of the clip on a pencil. I tried to google around after tools and info and it was nothing like it is now. I think i found that old pdf, CIAs guide to lockpicking or something like that. I like that we have got so many companies and that they all are able to survive. They exist side by side somewhat happily, nice to see that quality companies can make it these days.
Fantastic! More beginners' sets ought to skew towards minimalism and encourage the individual to build up as their journey demands. I struggle to keep things simple, and I love seeing this kind of high-speed, no fluff kind of approach to the entry level sets. Great work getting MP to put your ideas into practice for the benefit of the sport, Sandman!
Oh wow, congratulations man 🎉 awesome achievement to have an actual multipick set with your name on it👏👏👏 looking forward to the reviews and detailed views on the sets 😊😊 also thanks for the great overview in the beginning 👍
Literally looking at all these sets over the weekend and almost pulled the trigger. Searched your videos and didn’t see anything. Now I know for sure that it was you, I’ll be reconsidering. I need hooks more than anything. Just simply what those turning tools lol!
You can always buy anything individually as well. My #1 recommendation is the Intermediate set. It has everything you need and you can add tools individually from there.
@@sandman_locksport question: is there anything in any of your sets, besides the Bogota, that’s not included in the Palmers 40 piece? Got a little lost with all the turning tools, sorry lol.
Your MP kits, are they a bit inspired by CI’s style of kits? I love CI’s kit-style. No BS and you get what you need to great prices. I saw these kits on MPs site a couple days ago and i love them, all of them. Great choices by Sandman. Great kits, really.
The advanced set needs to be called "The Hoarder" or "The FOMO" [I have literally every pick 0.4/0.5/0.6 outside the rakes and along with most of the tensioners so I am allowed to gently rib the pick choice overload.]
It has flats, rounds, and sharps (aka thins). 3 different shapes at 3 different heights. I have all 107 of multipicks profiles, and these were the best and most practical. It is a Big Tim set by design., but not everyone is a Big Tim.
My dream for the "Big Timmy" set (🤔, maybe "Groß Timo") would be 6 dimple flags (big, small, curved in R and L), 3 depths of round books, 3 depths of pointed hooks, 3 depths of notched hook, 3 diamonds - one plain, 2 DeForests all in 0.4mm, 0.5mm and 0.6mm. The Christina Palmer double ended z-bar tensioner, prybar-style ToK in 0.8mm, 1mm, 1.2mm, 1.3mm, 2mm. A Lebel Wrench and 3 sizes of tubular tensioner. The locknoob dimple wrenches, ohh, and space in the case for a smaller DD pick with a front and a rear-tensioning tip (sold as an extra)
Congrats! I ordered the advanced set after you announced them on Facebook and really looking forward to getting them soon! I really love the inclusion of the .4mm (.016") picks. I think that was a really good add. I'm looking forward to doing an unboxing and first impressions video for them!
Awesome! Thank you! Get yourself some 3D printed handles so they are easier to hold if you can. I made a video on those and the contact info to the guy that made mine is in the description.
That is an amazing command of the history of the pick sets from the past until the present. I like the tiers of sets that you recommended. I’m a collector and went with three sizes on my two Multipick sets for 0.4,0.5,0.6 mm. You’re a great ambassador for the Lockport community given the opinions, guidance and expertise. Luckily, I have the funds to get whatever I want.
Where can we order the 3-D printed handles? I seen on a different video, but I have forgotten. Very good review. Multipick thank you top quality tools.

Ive made a couple purchases from multipick in the past but have avoided buying picks because their sets are full of stuff ill never use. I barely even thought about the advanced set before i had to buy it i just saw every hook i could possibly need and jumped on it.

A nice history lesson to go with your justification of the kits. I stand behind my words I said in LPU and think these kits are pretty awesome for an American audience (especially considering they're being brought to the States by LockpickersBench). I am slightly unenthused by a lack of 0.5mm, but to Americans that's not so necessary due to the open keyways, so I understand your reasoning. Wishing well for your future endeavours.
Thank you. Unfortunately, they didn’t have these profiles in .5 MM. Otherwise I would’ve went with that for the intermediate and advanced set. I could only consult on the inventory they have.

@@sandman_locksport What I mean to say is I cannot use them when shooting a video for a belt. It would be nice to have something that is geared toward obtaining belts from LPU. I was not aware you could use them for up to orange but I'm pass that now. I don't think they should be used though. Can set you up for failure later, I would imagine.
@@sandman_locksport I would still like to see a SPP set with more turning tools than picks. Just some gems and flat hooks. A shallow, medium, and deep .4mm; a medium and deep .5.
