Yes, the ribbon can be changed but you would need to get those parts from another PS2. Normally something else is scratching the disk - are you sure that it's the ribbon?

How many of them did you end up being able to fix by just using isopropanol a q tip to dust off the laser lens. Or did you try that for any of the consoles
Most of them did have problems with the laser and occasionally some of them had problems with a cracked power jack. Fortunately these systems are pretty easy to repair!

Yes, it might be related to the cables you are using. How is your PS2 connected to the TV? If you are using component cables make sure that you have that option selected in the system settings
I dropped my ps2, it won’t play my ps2 discs anymore. It spins and tries to read it then stops spinning after about 20-30 seconds. But it will actually play an audio CD ! Any suggestions ?

They all come shipped with the solder. The solder is used as a protection measure so that static electricity doesn’t destroy the laser during shipment. You should definitely invest in getting a $15 soldering iron and that should do the trick here
Yeah I have a ps2 slim scph 90001 silver and it was dirty under the heat sink shield on the cpu and I had to remove the heat sink shield on the motherboard to fully clean the motherboard really good I do believe that it was left in the outside of something that dirt could get in it no water damage though but I was trying to find another thermal pad that was the same as the other thermal pad so I bought one on eBay that was blue silicone thermal pad and I put it back together and it plays great just wanted to know what thermal pad would you use for a replacement pad than the original one my original pad was trashed because it fell apart in to pieces

It really depends on what you are looking for. Certain parts like lasers can be found pretty easily on a few different sites including eBay. But for a lot of other parts I go to console5.com pretty regularly
In this particular case I was lucky. Someone else had tested them and reported that they did not read games. So I took a gamble and I was pretty sure that I could fix most of them
I bought a Factory Sealed Ps2 slim a few months ago and it now only plays the Blue discs. Can a laser really go bad that fast? i only played it for 5-6hours since opening. I played a silver disc last night, switched to a different game and no longer worked.
That has happened to me before as well. I don’t think it’s necessarily due to use. At least these lasers are still easy to get and replacing them is not too difficult

That sounds like a dirty or damaged av port. Have you tried cleaning the port with deoxit? If that doesn’t work then it probably needs a replacement port
I ordered a complete ps2 slim with controller and memory card off of Mercari and it REEKS of cigarette smoke. I cannot return it because I already rated the seller because I was so hype to be able to play one of my favorite games again. It also leaves a circle strach on the game after playing. Do you have a fix to get rid of the smell without damaging the console and fix it so my game doesn´t get ruined overtime?
If you can put the entire console in a sealed container with a lot of dryer sheets, the sheets can absorb all the cigarette smoke. Ideally you can use a large zip loc bag, and you need to leave it in there for about a week or more, but it should work

It reads the disc, but the problem is that it's just reading the disc. That's all it does, "reading disc" while the screen says no data and there's just no progress... Pls help 🥺🥺😭
I’m sorry to hear that, and it can be tricky to diagnose these things. Does it do that with all three types of disks (ps2 dvd, ps2 cd, ps1)? Did you remove the anti-static solder from the laser as well?
Thanks for the response, I think one of them was a PS1 disc, (it wasnt labeled, it just said ps +6) and none them worked. Yes, I have desoldered it as well
Damn I’m sorry that it’s not working. A new laser almost always resolves the issue with a PS2 slim. I’ll see if I can find any other things that you can try and if so I’ll let you know
You can use a multimeter to measure the ohms on the potentiometer. When you adjust it again you can measure a second time to see how the resistance changes
That’s really not enough information to know what is wrong. I would start by cleaning the AV connector with some alcohol and a Q-tip and see if that helps

If ur looking for 70 to 77 , the worm motor is different facing , just Flix IP and will fit just a bit tight

My AV multi out cable Port is loose. Do you know how to fix that?
Yes, that’s something I can fix. Sometimes it simply needs to be reattached the main board, but other times you need a replacement

I can’t remember, but there were probably some 9 series ones in there. I only replaced the lasers, I don’t bother with adjusting the potentiometers

The KHS versions are for the Fat models and the PVR is what you should get for the slim

It has several fuses that you can check, maybe one of them has blown and needs to be replaced

That’s a good question. Normally I just replace them instead of trying to adjust the potentiometers. I have to take a look and see what I find
But that particular model is a good one to have, and the replacement lasers always work. So either way it’s possible to fix that one

Long Island Retro Gaming it’s with the original laser some water leaked in to my ps2 when i was cleaning it with a slightly wet cloth
I would suggest replacing the laser like I did in this video first and see how things go from there
