In the South Island we call these greenbone. The colour comes from the iodine in the kelp which accumulates in the bones. 👍

The guy is senile....Lol.... But as far as New Zealand, It just seems like such a laid back place to live with not such a huge population. A lot of natural resources..... I at least need to visit!!

Nice bro good Ole mayor Island I've dived there a handful of times with work kina diving. The first spot you pulled up to ive dived there on my second day of work 👍 tahua reef is awesome the boys seen a great white there.

Do you find the wind/spray deflectors up the front on the bow rail work well? Stops the cold trips back in and abit of side spray?
They work excellent mate. Lose a bit of sight when on the tiller steer but well worth it in my opinion. Having them installed on my next boat too
I find butterfish a bit tricky to shoot, they are skittish, kinda wriggle out of the way when pointing a speargun at them

Why don't you just scale the fish instead of skinning it. Alot of nutrition in the skin
I do sometimes, But haven't eaten butterfish skin yet. I'm sure it's fine though
