I concur 125%. Also less chances of getting the bends and sharked. Aaron is way on top of his game caution wise and always has his safety guys on que when they are in the shallow water blk out depths. In most other countries, spearfishig w/ tanks is prohibited. Personally I think that law should be implemented here too for 10 year's minimum. Could you imagine what our reefs would look like then? Just sayin.

In the late seventies, I listened to my grandfather lamenting the loss of the Atlantic cod fishing. The cause was the reign of the large commercial trawlers. No only does trawler fishing take all fish, all species, and all year classes, it tears up the sea floor.
My Father, Grandfather, great grandfather fished with hook and line, or long line. They could have fished this way,,,forever.
So the government ignored the inshore fisherman, and Biologists and permitted trawler fishing until there were no fish left to catch.
Then the Canadian government banned all fishing.
When I see you spear fishing, I’m sure my grandfather would approve because I know that this type of selective harvest is sustainable.
You could go into detail about the reasons why, however it’s better if more people learn about fish harvesting.
Love your channel, and I strongly support responsible, sustainable commercial fishing. Be safe !

I would say rod and reel with circle hooks is the most eco friendly. Although Aaron is more conscious of not reef raping, selective and mindful of the stock there is some inadvertent fish mortality from pulled shafts (probably less so with him than noob spearfishermen). But yes infinitely better than long lining or draggers.

I am 45 and I can tell tell you that running a boat like this Contender is not cheap. My father owned the largest marine service center on the gulf coast while I was growing up so I have seen just about everything. Just the upkeep on this boat for a year just ate up that entire profit and then some. Gear lube, water pumps, spark plugs, bilge pumps, batteries, macerators for the fish boxes, live well pumps and it goes on and on and on and it takes away from the bottom line. Mad respect for the smaller commercial guys cuz it’s not all fun and games I assure you. Also have to maintain the trailer and or lift.

I live in Hawaii now on Oahu. There's a woman here Kimi Werner I think who spear fishes here and is also on UA-cam. My wife Terry's father used to spearfish on Kauai years ago. I'm fascinated by your professionalism and the respect you have for God's creation. As a Pastor, I also appreciate your keeping your videos okay for the family. Thanks again, keep up the good work. Aaron, I cant get enough of your deep water free-dive videos whether you're going commercial or rec.
Im not gonna lie, I totally feel better about myself after seeing you getting fatigued... I dont get in the water nearly as much as I want but when I do, I go hard until I cant anymore.
Lastly, I finally got a chance to try out the mangrove gun and it is absolutely perfect! Balanced, accurate, low drag making it super easy to track a fish to get a shot off.... The first gun I've owned that if I miss a fish I know 100% it was my fault. Much thanks!!!

I appreciate your little intro into not passing judgement as having been a deck hand for 5 years as a teenager and being a rec fisherman my entire life, I have certainly shared my frustration with commercial fishing (i Hate it generally), but not the way you are doing it. I have watched numerous different amazing spearfishing videos and creators around the world and learned that it truly typically is a lot more sustainable means of commercial and even recreational, as you can decide what fish species, what size, etc and there is no "oh crap this snapper is out of season and choked down my hook into his stomach" and you have to toss them over to watch them die, whereas that will never happen spearfishing, and i hope other people will listen watch and realize that what you're doing truly has more potential to be more sustainable than any other method.

You only take what you want, there's zero bycatch, very few fish get away and die (because of misplaced shots), and you clearly care about the fish population and the wellbeing of the ecosystem. You also don't try to glam it up for the camera and keep it real, 100% of the time. Way to go!

When you dive I always end up holding my breath. I don’t know why. But it’s my reaction every time. Thanks for the video. Great job.

Really enjoy your video content, Waterman. People who get pissed and leave negative comments should go watch some big operation commercial fishing videos and see how much bycatch is just totally wasted. Great to see you responsibly harvesting. Keep up the great work!

Love your videos. I went to restaurants this weekend and had grouper. A commercial fisherman caught it somewhere. I live in Florida we are blessed to have great fishing opportunities. Thanks for all the info you provide.

Its great you make these type of videos. For the locals and all who enjoy the fruits of your labor, they can appreciate more what went into the harvest. It is a clear example of responsible acquiring of food without the level of bycatch carnage associated with less selective means of fishing. Bravo. Well done. Cheers
