When Arcanine uses Fire Blast repeatedly, and Take Down for good measure, he is terrifying, especially because it's hard to take it out in one shot. Because Golbat gave the team too many opportunities to set up and attack, Blaine could eventually take Golbat down consistently. Also Fire Spin + Super Potion lol. Unfortunately Surge doesn't have many options, and there's no broken strategies with X-Speed. Also, if he's too tough, he's easy to avoid until later.

I forgot I was at work and immediately clicked on this video. Forgot my computer was at full blast, and luckily Jrose starts the video by laughing. Gotta be more careful next time, can’t wait to see how this one turns out
the 1/256 glitch only affects 100 accuracy moves, the glitch is not a 1/256 chance to bypass the accuracy check and miss anyway, it's caused by the accuracy check on 100 accuracy moves checking if the rng function (which generates a number between 0 and 255) generates a number less than 255, instead of less than or equal to 255. This can't affect any other accuracy values since converting %chance to chance in 256 requires approximation anyway, all that would change is whether they overshot or undershot the accuracy value.
It is possible to encounter a 255 accuracy roll on moves with less than 100% accuracy, so the glitch can still happen. It's just tougher to understand if a miss was caused by the glitch or by the intended algorithm. For example, a 90% accurate move would hit if there's a roll of 229 or less (maybe it's 230, idk how the rounding is handled, but the premise is still the same). If the 1/256 glitch did not exist, there would be 26 total rolls where a 90% move would miss, but because it exists, there are 27. If you don't look at the actual code, you don't know if you hit one of the 26 intended rolls or the one unintended one
One of the benefits of using leech life for Erica too is that in Gen 1 I believe poison was weak against bug so you had a quadruple effective move against all the poison grass types
Yep, bug was actually a pretty strong offensive type in gen 1, that's why it only had crappy moves, because a move like megahorn would be super busted in gen 1.
Yea, 20 base power with quad-effectiveness is still just 80 base power. So it's good, but very situationally so. And the game has the audacity to recommend bugs against the psychic gym, when most bugs are also poison type and lack any good bug-type attacks. I remember being pretty scandalized by this when I figured it out as a kid. :D
@@ngotemna8875Agreed! The misinformation was insane. Your first opponent in pokemon Gen 1 was always the game itself. I love it and have fond memories but... don't trust it. Focus Energy is bugged. The NPCs are devious. The shorts are a lie!

I finally figured out how jrose does his voiceovers where he achieves the omniscient narration style, and still reacting genuinely to surprising circumstances.
I want to play Pokémon red more, but I have no clue how people such as yourself can level up your Pokémon so quickly. Like it takes me so long to do anything in any Pokémon game but you guys can do it within like 3 hours in one sitting. Anyway great video as always.
Perhaps you should make a third list: this list should be filled with a combination of 2nd stage Pokémon (Ivysaur, Charmeleon, Wartortle, etc.;) Pokémon that can evolve in future generations (Onyx, Seadra, Porygon, etc.;) and low stats Pokémon (Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Jynx, etc.)
I’d personally argue that for the sake of future proofing, “future evolution” only be “does it get a new evolution in the next 4 gens”, since Pokemon like Ursaring in GSC and Primeape in RBY don’t feel anemic in the same way something like Seadra or Golbat feels anemic. They have faults, sure, but they don’t FEEL “NFE”
@spindash64 Yeah, Ursaring was one of the few regularly evolving Pokémon in Gen 2 that actually got up to 500 BST in its final stage (not counting the starters, I legit think it's just Ursaring, its counterpart Donphan and Ampharos who's not in Crystal), it's crazy that that's the one that got an evolution. To put things in perspective and since you mentioned that particular Pokémon, Primeape is actually stronger in terms of BST than most fully evolved GSC originals.
I love every video you put out. Your audio quality is great. You don't drag it out, and you somehow seem like you are still having fun. Thank you for the content!
These videos just keep getting better and better. I love the color scheme in this video. Plus, Golbat wasn't that bad considering. It's not the best, but not the worst either.
So you are aware, every move that checks accuracy is prone to the 1 in 256 glitch. However, moves like swift that "cannot miss" ignore accuracy checks altogether, and so they are exempt.
It's possible that Rock Throw was so inaccurate to balance it being used against the player, since you probably don't have anything that resists rock at that point, and a lot of things weak to it.
I think the Rock type was just designed to be inaccurate in general, there are barely any 100% accurate Rock type moves to this day, especially from the earlier generations
@@DJFracus For physical attacks I think it’s justaccelerock, smack down, and salt cure with 100% accuracy. With Smack Down having the highest base power of 50. Power Gem is overall the strongest perfect accurate Rock move and it still isn’t great. Though with how good rock coverage is I don’t think that’s a bad thing really. Seems like a fair balancing mechanic
Keep it up boss. You are doing a great job with these. Been watching a ton of these gen 1s especially Hoping for a fraction of your success out here XD Cheers!
I know the ranking table /tables are always posted in the video, but is there a link to where it is posted to be able to look at it without pausing the vids at the end? On another note, still loving this channel and the content. I always look forward to these runs getting posted :D
I love how poiaon and bug used to be SE against each other and then GameFreak was like 'Nah, poison and byg are too strong offensively, let's leave them with 1 type they can hit super-effectively'
25:36 it doesn't apply to moves with perfect accuracy like Swift because they bypass the accuracy check entirely. Aside from that though yes all moves are slightly less accurate than they should be As for why, I believe that the accuracy check rolls a number between 0 and 255 and then compares it to a number based on accuracy, and then if it's less than that number it hits. The problem here is it only checks if it's less, not equal. So a 100% accurate move sets the threshold to 255, and then if it rolls 255 exactly, that is not less than 255, so it misses.
*Idea:* If there ever comes a point where you've officially soloed Gen I with every possible Pokemon, you should save Arbok as the last one for a potential "That's all, folks!" callback to the Pokerap. :P

On pokemon showdown all moves have a lowered accuracy
And against a quad-weak target like vilepume or exeggutor, it deals the same damage as Strength (assuming no STAB on either move, but still...)
@@danielhale1 More outrageous for me was Sabrina mentioning her weakness to Ghosts, when ghost doesn't hit psychic in gen 1....
@@ngotemna8875Agreed! The misinformation was insane. Your first opponent in pokemon Gen 1 was always the game itself. I love it and have fond memories but... don't trust it. Focus Energy is bugged. The NPCs are devious. The shorts are a lie!
Glad I had something to watch tonight at work. Thank you for the upload and happy with how it preformed. Can't wait for the next one already. I know I am anxiously awaiting the mid stage trades to make their introduction.
Perfect timing. About to write a science report. Thank you Jrose
Well played and congrats on finishing this heck run! And (besides how horrid this run is), I can see why you're looking forward to Fire Red: you're more then half-way through this series, so double congrats!
This colour palette is really great, Koffing and Pikachu look stunning
Loving the series , inspired me to do some aswell . Really fun and challenging aswell. After my run i always love to check what you did and sheesh i'm a noob ;)
One of my faves! J, I’ve literally been rewatching older videos waitinggggggg for the next upload. I can’t help being obsessed with your series. So stoked to find out how Golbat performs!
Oh my lord that Count gave me whiplash. That's a classic Jrose bit!
I love the fact that you named the rival Richter. That's beautiful! XD
Now I want a director's cut with entirely vampire voiceover
Another excellent video! Thanks as always
Comments: "Whoo, we're at the halfway point, doing great so far!"
Jrose: "We? What's all this 'we' stuff? I'm doing all the hard work!"
Comments: "Break time's over, here we go!"
Always a good day when Jrose posts!!!! I love your videos. Thanks for bing the guy who got me into wantitng to run a few Pokemon challenges (Manga Wallace vs. Emerald and Contest Coordinator vs. Pokemon Ruby). I really do enjoy listening to your videos and you're a rock star! Thank you :)
I would love to see a stat on how many attacks are actually used in a run vs the 1/256 glitch to see how lucky/unlucky a run is
I finally figured out how jrose does his voiceovers where he achieves the omniscient narration style, and still reacting genuinely to surprising circumstances.
How?
These videos are keeping me so entertained at work thank you so much for doing this
YAY! Another Jrose video, just in time to brighten my day :)
Heck yeah! That color scheme amazing!
nice Frosted Wild Berry Pop Tart color scheme!
Great video with a very unexpected ending!
Congrats on completing your second full evolution line where every Pokémon can beat the game!
Love the new video, thanks bro
I want to play Pokémon red more, but I have no clue how people such as yourself can level up your Pokémon so quickly. Like it takes me so long to do anything in any Pokémon game but you guys can do it within like 3 hours in one sitting. Anyway great video as always.
So happy to see you uploading again Jrose11! I love all of your content, keep up the amazing work.
He really got me with the opening. I truly had swallowed the idea of that voice going on for the first like minute
Awesome video as always!
@spindash64
Yeah, Ursaring was one of the few regularly evolving Pokémon in Gen 2 that actually got up to 500 BST in its final stage (not counting the starters, I legit think it's just Ursaring, its counterpart Donphan and Ampharos who's not in Crystal), it's crazy that that's the one that got an evolution. To put things in perspective and since you mentioned that particular Pokémon, Primeape is actually stronger in terms of BST than most fully evolved GSC originals.
@@spindash64
Scyther as well. Scyther is hella strong for a NFE mon
I have watched all of your videos for these. I can't wait for a few more of my favourites like vulpix.
29:23 Golbat confirmed got a type change to psychic flying :P
yeah Golbat not having fly is pretty wild to me , thanks for the video J
So you are aware, every move that checks accuracy is prone to the 1 in 256 glitch. However, moves like swift that "cannot miss" ignore accuracy checks altogether, and so they are exempt.
made my day in the first 3 seconds, destroyed my hopes and dreams on the next 2 seconds...
still great run, even without the voice
It's possible that Rock Throw was so inaccurate to balance it being used against the player, since you probably don't have anything that resists rock at that point, and a lot of things weak to it.
Not to mention that Geodude has that nutty base attack
I think the Rock type was just designed to be inaccurate in general, there are barely any 100% accurate Rock type moves to this day, especially from the earlier generations
@@DJFracus
For physical attacks I think it’s justaccelerock, smack down, and salt cure with 100% accuracy. With Smack Down having the highest base power of 50. Power Gem is overall the strongest perfect accurate Rock move and it still isn’t great. Though with how good rock coverage is I don’t think that’s a bad thing really. Seems like a fair balancing mechanic
Golbat: "Wanna see a 360 no scope?"
Jrose: "What?"
Silph Scope: " :( "
Love the videos bud :) , watching them every night - big hello from the Isle of Lewis , outer Hebrides ;)
Awesome, a good video to relax with while doing my shift. ❤
Keep it up boss. You are doing a great job with these. Been watching a ton of these gen 1s especially
Hoping for a fraction of your success out here XD Cheers!
Leech Life/Mega Drain Goldbat feels very appropriate considering it is a bloodsucker.
You know it's going to be a good day when jrose uploads!
Well done batsy, you've done it again!
Just started watching your videos, love the content and your narration. Not surprising you have such a big following!
“I’m just gonna let you know right off the BAT” 😂
The count had me ready for some counts butttttt, well played sir....well played ❤
The immediate serotonin from the Count Von Count: unparalleled.
I know the ranking table /tables are always posted in the video, but is there a link to where it is posted to be able to look at it without pausing the vids at the end?
On another note, still loving this channel and the content. I always look forward to these runs getting posted :D
Bats are objectively the best things in the multiverse.
The council appreciates this run.
I love how poiaon and bug used to be SE against each other and then GameFreak was like 'Nah, poison and byg are too strong offensively, let's leave them with 1 type they can hit super-effectively'
Hey hey hey...that only happened to Poison (until Fairy)😂 Bug still smacked Grass, Psychic, and Dark in Gen 2 onward
Keep up the good work
Golbat was still kinda decent, especially when you could find a extremely underleveled one in GSC
I've long awaited this run
Happy to see another one Jrose!
Makes me want to do solo runs lol you make it look fun
yea, it wouldn't be until Crobat comes around that the Zubat line is finally able to learn Fly
Always a good day to see a Jrose video!!! Love your content
OH SNAP! I just popped over to UA-cam and saw this was uploaded 21mins ago! Hell ya!
25:36 it doesn't apply to moves with perfect accuracy like Swift because they bypass the accuracy check entirely. Aside from that though yes all moves are slightly less accurate than they should be
As for why, I believe that the accuracy check rolls a number between 0 and 255 and then compares it to a number based on accuracy, and then if it's less than that number it hits. The problem here is it only checks if it's less, not equal. So a 100% accurate move sets the threshold to 255, and then if it rolls 255 exactly, that is not less than 255, so it misses.
You just KNOW to expect mimic in this run 😂
This Golbat run gets the OG Bug Catcher official stamp of approval! 👍
The Blaine AI woke up and chose violence
Nice to see another video! Love it!
Never clicked on a notification this fast
Another Wonderful addition to one of my "top 10" favorite UA-cam series.... 🤔 It's actually in my top 5 series now that I think about it.
😅👍
love the color scheme, keep it !
14:19 Why does that bite flinched pidgeot there? I thought you couldn't cause secondary effects to the same type as the move you are using
That only applies to major statuses like burn and paralysis.
@@DisplayThisOkay thanks!
its great to watch the videos early and just watch the likes climb in real time.
keep up the great work jrose
Just in time to watch one of my favourite Pokemon!
