I use everything that can possibly be used as well. I just finished dehydrating my tomato skins leftover from salsa and stuff. I will powder it and use it a a bullion for soups. All my veggies scraps go into the freezer for broth making.
My grandma usually made corn cob jelly, which I love! I've never thought to make a broth before, I bet it would make a great base for corn chowder as well.
"Taste like Corn" Gotta Love Grandpa's take on the soup. Lol. Both you guys are so enjoyable to watch. Thank you Grandma Feral for this simple soup recipe.
I just discovered this channel and im so happy!! It reminds me of when my family would all get together back in the early 90s... before my granny and all of the older folks passed on... I miss the family togetherness and the amazing food and everything 😢 thank you for these videos 🤍
I am happy you discovered my channel. We had a very large family with so many passing on. We miss them all. My Mom made sure that we knew how to make her recipes. She lived a long life and still was baking right to the end of her life. Thank you for watching and have a good day👩🏻.
This is my favourite soup to make when it is cold out. I always buy up a bunch of end of season corn and have friends save their cobs for me so I can make them cob stock in the fall. This is the epitome of comfort food for me. Corn cob stock just adds an incredible depth of flavour to food that it's a shame to see the best part go to waste.
Same. I can’t cook. I get panic attacks. Can’t imagine trying it with no internet recipes and what modern times have brought us. However I do think living in a rental with a tiny kitchen and really no space for a garden bc all we have is a tiny patio full of wasps is a big problem as well.
I’ve never made this soup, but I do make corn cob jelly with our garden corn. It’s very light and almost tastes like honey! I usually can a half dozen jars every year. It’s wonderful on biscuits.
I've never heard of this soup. My parents had a garden with corn every year and Momma froze it. Some was on the cob and some cut off. Sometimes she would cut the corn off and make creamed corn. 😋
Thx y'all. I processed 3 dozen ears of corn last night, just picked. I got 28 cups of corn for the freezer. Now I'll have that yumny fresh corn taste all year! Blessings, julie
I don’t waste anything either. I’ll freeze it first! The milk in the Cobb is what makes it good I bet. I’ve put Cobbs in veggie soup before. One thing I never thought of was using potato peels though. Hmmm. Its still food and vitamins! Glad I found your channel. Makes you think twice. Thank you.
This is amazing, I would never have thought that you could make soup from corn cobs, thank you for sharing Grandma and Grandpa can't wait to try this ♥
I've had some really great corn on the cob this year...but I don't think there's enough left on the cob for this once I'm through with it!😂 Now, if I was cutting the kernels instead of chomping them, I'd absolutely either scrape off the remnants, or use the cob to flavor a soup. It's really good to flavor any kind of soup stock (chicken, vegetable, pork, clam chowder, etc.), especially if you only have one or two cobs on hand at a time. Thanks again, Grandma! Always a treat!
Hi Patricia I love Corn On The Cob and when I am done nothing is left on the Cob. When I was younger and just had the cob left I would spread butter on it and suck on the Cob. So Good! Next time I make a soup and have a Corn Cob I will use it for flavor. Have A Great Day ❤️👩🏻
Maggie thats an amazing idea!! I live off of egg noodles!!! And im thinking I should make this soup add some corn and carrots and leeks and egg noodles for a wonderful rainy night meal... apparently we have severe cold thunder storms coming in tonight and this soup with egg noodles sounds like the perfect thing to sit on the porch and watch the rain with!! Thanj you both!
I make corn cob jelly almost every year. I can the corn, boil the cobs and make jelly with the juice, then I gave the cobs to the chickens. WHen the chickens were done cleaning the cobs I collected them for fire starters, the silks I dried for tea, and the husks I used in a wreath but the middle clean ones could also be used for tamales. I also made my own version of substitute corn syrup and canned it along with the extra boiled corn juice I canned for using later on. I use everything up to the max! I never thought of making boiled cobs into a soup! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing what you do with the corn cobs. How wonderful to use them to the max. I am happy you will be making corn cob soup. Thank you so much for watching and have a good day👩🏻
I just cooked 3 corn on the cob in my croc pot with a dash of salt and butter, on high for 4 hours and removed. Corn was DELICIOUS. Came here to see what I could do with the juice. Maybe add some veggies?
I scrape the cobs after I cut the corn off, then boil the cobs to make a broth for corn chowder. Love it with BLT sandwiches. When I was a kid, we went to the Farmer's Market and got bushels of white field corn or Trucker's White. It was the best corn ever. We cut it off the cob, scraped the cob and them my Mother blanched it. After it cooled, we put it in containers to freeze. Can't find that corn anywhere now.
I wonder how this compares with (Chinese) Corn Soup, ingredients and cooking method. The saltine crackers, regular or low sodium, would add any salt you want for the corn and soup. -- And this probably compared all with the corn pudding (Native American) recipe you did. It'd be very nice for soup stock other uses. I'll bet that is very soothing, and nutritious. You/d get a lot of good from the corn cobs. Good stuff! Thanks, Grandma Feral.
Tip: Grandma added 2 cups of water because she didn't want it to go dry or the corn cobs to go uncovered. If you add 2.5 cups, then that gives 7.5 cups overall, which gives 1.5 cups of water for each of the five corn cobs used, so it would scale up nicely. Haha, I'm a traditionalist: when we ate corn on the cob fresh, all it needed was butter and salt, a little pepper if people liked that, so the soup is good this way, and saltine crackers crumbled into soup is right up there with that usual thing. -- I miss my own grandmother/s homemade vegetable sop, or with beef (roast or chuck cubed) in the soup.
2 (10 ounce) package frozen corn kernels thawed 1 Cup Heavy Cream 2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar 1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper 2 Tablespoons Butter 1 Cup Whole Milk 2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese In a skillet over medium heat, combine the corn, cream, sugar, pepper and butter Whisk together milk and flour, stir into corn mixture. Cook stirring over medium heat until the mixture is thickened and corn is cooked through. Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted. Serve Hot Enjoy!
I make leek soup almost identical to this... simply leeks salt pepper water butter and occasionally I will go wild and add other veggies or lots of different seasons sometimes some kale or spinach and even some thinly sliced potatoes .... seriously everything can be started from a soup base like this!!!
That sounds lovely. I'll bet it would be good with "egg rags" in it, too (eggs scrambled, drizzled raw over simmering soup, count to 10, then stir in, to cook in ragged bits, as in egg drop soup). Then crumble in the crackers.
This is such a good soup. You get two meals from the Corn Cob. You remove the corn from the cob and have it as a side dish or use it in a recipe. You make the soup with the Corn Cob. I am looking forward to are local grown corn 🌽
@@GrandmaFeral I'm going to make it for Larry and I. He loves corn.🌽 I'll have him pick up some next time he's out. We have a friend that's shares a garden with us. Thanks for all the recipes. I'm going to share your page with my grandchildren children. Thanks again. 😊

2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
