Kayley Neil how is it going? I have been self teaching for 2 weeks and loving it! Admittedly I am a music major, so I have had some skills transfer. I came to this vid just to make sure I was doing everything right as I thought. I can already read sheet music, but tabs are so much easier.
This was so dang helpful. I’m a beginner. As in I have never picked up a musical instrument and I’m 38. I’ve always wanted to learn and I picked the bass..I’m a bit of a rock/ metal fan and I love the sound of the bass. Great video.
Same here, started with guitar when I was around 8 but my hands were too small to actually fret chords, so I picked up the ukulele and bass and have been playing for about 3 years. Never bothered to actually learn how to sight read though, so here I am
I'm just getting started with my bass playing and this is going to be super helpful! Gorillaz is my favourite band so when you used Feel Good Inc. as an example I jumped up in my seat and just spent a solid minute playing the riff over and over.
as a "non english speaking person" (i'm belgian) i sometimes to put the playing speed on x75 (it gives you more time to translate in your head)... i used this technique on this video and i can say i all honesty, that this was one of the most instructive videos i have ever found on youtube.
Thank you so much! I’m a piano player, and decided to start bass recently, but was confused about the weird sheet music, but this has cleared all of my questions up and I understand all of the music now. 😊
Thank you, man! I originally play the cello, so when i got a bass I got really confused when i saw these strange notes with numbers, but this really helps.
Thanks for your advice about the base tabs being upside down and how you see it and reverse it in your mind when you look at the fretboard, I can now follow bass tabs much more easily. Another I’ve found is to look at the fretboard and think the strings are right but the numbers on the bass tab are upside down.
I used to play the electric guitar as a teen, but now at the age of 29 I've decided to take up the guitar again but this time with a bass. This video has helped me a lot and I think I'm going to buy my first bass guitar. Thanks for all the simply explained tips (a lot of other people over complicated things which initially put me off).
Love the video been trying to learn by my self and it hast been working been rapping my head round it so long just wanted to give up trying but seen this video and now it seems to be a lot easier now
madelyn brooke I can play a few songs now! >< Can’t slap yet but definitely comfortable with reading and playing tabs. I also noticed that I can hear the bassline in songs clearer now (before learning the bass I never pay attention to them at all 😂)
@@chrypco late reply but yeah, that's definitely something that happens when you pick up bass 💀 used to think bass was sorta lame a few years back, been playing for 3 years now and all I can hear is the bass line in a song
Actually my name is Gavin , learning to read tabs is like learning another language facanating, frustrating but oh so rewarding when you get it right...I'm going to try Zeplins Good times bad times, like I said "try" being the operative word here. ..and bucket loads of patience. .. And the dude who I'm going to try does the tutorial in Spanish but if you understand tabs the language is not an obstacle, amazing. .. Tabs love 'em. .. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm just starting to learn bass. This is very helpful🙏🙏❤️🌷🍸✌️👆. So kind of you to give a free download on bass leasons.
looked forward to this lesson on how to read tabs all day , it's all I could think about , sadly you've left me more confused than before I started ...
I Am a professional at Tabs and ALL of that, i learned Alone cause i dont knew what was tabs so you is good at explaining tabs. Continue with the good work.
Quick correction - At the 9:10 mark, the note marked at the 5th fret on the A-string should actually be on the E-string.
Luke from Become A Bassist
This video helped me a lot thanks
@Arath fonesca - No worries at all! I’m glad it helped
So does this mean that learning to read tabs is easier for people who play lefty?
str8dominican yes, unless you have a left handed bass, then it’s the same

I love the enthusiasm! Keep it up and you'll have no choice but to get better on your bass!
Gorillaz is one of my favorite bands and I’m a beginner on bass and I love playing that song too. Idk why I’m telling you this but whatever.
I ended up on this video cause I want to learn that riff! Haha
If you like Gorillaz go to this Channel Marlon Wörshing Bass Cover i learned and memorized 20 Gorillaz Bass songs it's a good channel
EsseCaraAi BR ikr it’s literally the best

Also a good way to learn a song too
Thank god other people do the same thing- English is my third language and i almost always have it on .75x speed

Thank you, man! I originally play the cello, so when i got a bass I got really confused when i saw these strange notes with numbers, but this really helps.
Finally a really clear and good explanation to the reading bass tabs
Trying this again and again and again hopefully it'll start to make sence

im getting my bass in a couple of days and this was extremely helpful! Thank you so much!!
This helped me tremendously, the inversion of the strings. I was playing top down instead of bottom up, what a difference.
