That was a fun video. I’ll share it with some of the team. Thanks!
I'm going to try my absolute hardest to not fanboy out here. Thank you so so much for your kind words and thank you so much for bringing the world Fallout!
This is such a surreal experience, thank you so much! Have a great Christmas, Tim!
Oh, man! Please, do! Fallout 2 is even better, I promise! Much deeper and an upgrade in many ways, while still using all of originals unique abilities and, ofc, VATS!
Wow the man himself!
@@TubbzYT Holy shit, man, how friggin' cool is that?! Way to go on getting what I'd say is the highest praise possible coming from the actual driving creative force who's got some soul invested in it! Your video definitely made for a fantastic watch for sure so it's great to see all this good shit happening here, and a 2x congratulations to you my good man for well and truly earning the moment!
You know it’s a good video about fallout when Tim Cain responds. Good job. 👍
It doesn’t matter how many fallout retrospectives i’ve watched, i’ll always be excited to watch another one
Look forward to the second one!
RIP Mitten Squad
Agreed. Paul was a cornerstone of Fallout UA-cam. I personally think he helped revitalise a lot of love in the series. He'll be deeply missed.
@@TubbzYT well said
@@DJDeathRevenantwhat happened to him?
great video, looking forward to fallout 2! I love how much darker the first two fallouts and new Vegas are compared to the others. one slight correction: Tycho is a desert ranger, not an NCR ranger, as the NCR didn't exist yet. the desert rangers joined the NCR rangers when the NCR reached Nevada
video editing and pacing are beyond perfect, keep em coming and can not wait to see how after a year or so your channel will blow up
My favourite origin story about fallout 1 with Tim Cain is when hed host pizza lunches with his coworkers to talk about games and the people jump in and help him make the game, they didnt even care if they didnt get paid for working on it they wanted to help out Tim Cain finish it. Absolutely chad coworkers
Great vid! We will watch your career with great interest
Good reference!
Nice to see some younger lads enjoying the older stuff
Amazing video bro, it so cool to see smaller channels pump out such high-quality videos! It would be super cool to see another video really going over the theme of the retro futurism ideas and how that's shaped everything in Fallout. Keep up the good work!
Man, how do you only have 40 subs...
Hahaha I appreciate it! I'm so shocked to have even 40 people who care about what I have to say!
Hey guys, please let me know what you liked and more importantly what you didn't like so I know what to work towards in the Fallout 2 Video! :D
W vid cant wait for the next
This is the first video I’ve seen of yours and I like it keep up the good job.(just found out this is your first video.😅)
“green hair and pronouns, so what do you expect?” That. That is what I did not like. Bigotry, especially from the mouth of someone as very young as you, is not what I want in my entertainment.
@@amurmurmur609 I understand why you feel this way, but this was sarcastic. I really should have telegraphed that better, or just omitted it completely. Rather, it was me making fun of the "Of course you have blue hair and pronouns" used by anti-sjw bigots, it was very quickly turned into a joke by the LGBTQIA+ because it's such a stupid insult, hahah.
I hope you understand it wasn't from a place of malice and was intended to be humorous in nature. Sorry it didn't come across that way!
@@amurmurmur609 100% agree. It's not funny. As they say, "be careful who you pretend to be".
Excellent and entertaining retrospective. I never get tired of watching videos like these of Fallout. Looking forward to the next ones!
172 subs, only video on the channel. HOW DOES THIS SLAP SO GOOD!? love the Fallout series and this is such an accurate analysis of the vibes. So so so excited to see more, especially when you get to the modern games.
I would say keep it up dude! Your video rocks! Love the style of humor and info you present here. Can’t wait to see more!
Thanks so much!
This was a great video loved basically everything about it. Especially the always sunny bit in necropolis
Playing Fallout 1 was one of the highlights of this year. What a damn great game
I've watched a few Fallout retrospectives, but you definitely found a way to keep it fresh and keep me listening. One thing I especially liked was the memes, of course, but I think what could help make your videos stand out from the rest is including your experiences and mistakes in the review section. Most reviewers are gonna say "go here and this happens because you have to do this." But I wish you kept in getting shot up in the no guns zone, because ultimately I think thats the genuine experience of Fallout that we all remember fondly
That's a really good point! I'll keep it mind, thanks!
Absolute banger of a video. Keep up the good work bro I'm hyped for next upload
Really excellent video! I really love the energy and love you put into this!! Cannot wait for your fallout 2 video!
Thanks so much! I'm so excited to start working on the Fallout 2 video too! Your comment is massively appreciated!
Well done on your first video, subbed up! I was surprised that you only had 263 subscribers!
I don’t comment a lot of at all but I will be waiting happily for the fallout 2 review! “We will be watching your career with great interest”. I don’t really have anything bad to say/needs improving on, keep up the good work and have a good Christmas and new year!
Thanks so much! I'm working on the Fallout 2 review as we speak! Thanks for your kind words!
Have a Merry Christmas and I hope to see you in the New Year!
My dad got me fallout 1 and 2 for Xmas in 1998.. this game kicked my 10 year old ass. Later, as a teenager, I was a bit smarter and knew a lot more about rpgs and had a helluva lot of fun, so nostalgic for me
Your dad has good taste! Thanks for sharing!
@TubbzYT LOL! He's a boomer, knew nothing of computers or gaming other than Ntelevison, haha! He just bought a game he read as post-cold war (as he is a Vietnam vet) and thought, 'this looks nuts, and has a great message! Down with communism!' 🤣✌️🍻 merry Xmas, thank you for this video, it meant a lot
Hahahaha, well then it's a good thing he thought that! Merry Christmas! Thanks for watching!
@TubbzYT haha subbing now, thank you, bro, and your misprunuciations of words is the best thing I've heard all week, thank you!
@TubbzYT I'm now your 137th subby, remember me when you hit 1 million 🍻🤣
Love the video, was expecting a lot of video, was really surprised to see its your first. With the quality and the narration was expecting like 2 or 3 years worth of video under your belt. Good job keep on the good work. Cant wait to see your next video.
Thank you, it means a lot! I'm glad to hear that! Working on the Fallout 2 video as we speak!
I think it's really cool that kids are always still discovering this game. Good on you and your friends! Great video and editing btw.
I'm glad that this game is near enough multigenerational now! It was really surreal seeing forum posts about this game in 2004 when I was researching! Thanks for your kind words!
A wonderful video, Tubbz! Your narration style and use of humor without overdoing it was incredible, and I really loved how you ran through the plot without actually spoiling too much or providing too much guidance - this is definitely a game that's best experienced when you fumble in it yourself. I can't wait to see your next video!
(Also, thanks for having me and my thoughts for a brief bit of it!)
Thanks so much! I agree, bumbling your way through the game is the best way to play lmao
Thanks so much for your help!
Great vid, I played fallout back in 97 when I was probably a little too young and it was such a revelation that I wound up down the rabbit hole of tabletop games for the rest of my life! Looking forwards to your take on the other titles (also thinking about doing a retrospective myself, though more focused on learning to live with the wildly inconsistent tone and story throughout the series)
It's kind of funny to imagine that people were playing this game when I wasn't even born and now it's one of my favourite games. Proves how it stands the test of time!
Let me know if you get around to those retrospectives! I'd love to check it out!
Love this video! Always great to hear new retrospectives of this great franchise! Keep up the good work
Thanks for the kind words!
"If you take the water chip we will all die" Ah, they'll be fine, they're ghouls.
Great video, happy to be your 200th sub. Excited for videos to come 👀
200!?!? That's insane! Thanks so much!
Really well put together video please continue with the rest of the fallout series! I’ve never played completed fallout 1/2 but maybe someday
Thanks so much! I highly recommend playing them! The Fallout Classic Pack (1/2/Tactics) is super cheap on Steam thanks to the winter sale, check it out!
I honestly couldn't care less about how many Brits like Fallout lol. If anything, I'm really glad non-Americans can appreciate a game series centered around American politics.
That's a good way of looking at it!
You have no idea how Eastern Europeans are obsessed with Fallout games (besides their obsession with STALKER and Metro trilogies).
I'm Colombian so, yeah fallout is cool
I'm from Argentina and FoNV is probably my favorite video game ever
🇨🇱🗿
The Master's Army were well equipped. The most lavish we'd ever see Super Mutants fitted with nice weapons in the franchise. As for The Master himself I was able to get him to see how his plan was doomed to fail.
I got FO1 & 2 when they had first come out. Loved the style and atmosphere to them. My friend wasn't as impressed by FO2 since it wasn't a leap over the original, but still loved the first one. The late 1990s was a great time for isometric view RPGs. FO1 & FO2 released and BioWare made a name for themselves with the first Baldur's Gate.
I came back to watch this and WOW. your humor combined with your narration style made the video hook me in like a fishing rod, also despite loving the game you're able to still show off its flaws and criticisms made the video a really good comprehensive look to a game i may have never known about! Really good job Tubbz, i look forward to any other potential video essay style stuff you do seeing as you have a real knack for it!
Came to comment after listening to this with my partner, because man, what a fantastic video! Your clear love for the game really shows and I think its always really refreshing to listen to people talk about things they genuinely love. Plus your pacing kept things engaging. I'm excited for that Fallout 2 vid!
Thanks! I really tried to keep the pace up so people wouldn't get bored of me speaking. I have so much to talk about in regards to Fallout, and even moreso for Fallout 2!
This was a great video man i loved the text that looked like the games dialogue
I enjoyed your first video, keep it up. Would love to see more
Great video, excited for the next upload you have planned!
Great video, cant wait for the others!
So youtube put you in my recommended and your style and content is pretty danm good and i love this vid and want more lmao,
so i Subscribed half way thru your vid and was dissapointed but amazed to see this is your first upload.
Regardless Im looking super super forward to seeing both your channels growth, and your sub count explode.😮
This was a terrific video. A sequel would be brilliant
saw your reddit post on this video and i really enjoyed the video i liked the kinda meme edits you added it wasnt too many where it was annoying but added and i liked how you talked about the dev history abit just a good video excited to see what you do in the future
I had to inject some humour in somehow! Fallout 1 is super bleak
Thanks for the kind words!
Great video I really enjoyed it keep It up !! And Merry Christmas !!
Great video! Liked and subscribed!
Loving it so far, good job on the video! And just as you mention Cain i see his comment - wild! Gz man
Gotta say this, you have a really good mic setup, tone, and cadence while narrating/reading script/talking! We will watch your career with great interest. Much love and a Happy Christmas to ya 🤙🏻
Thanks so much! My mic set up is actually nothing impressive, Audacity does a lot of the heavy lifting. Glad to have you aboard! Merry Christmas!
Enjoyed this!
Amazing video man
Can't wait for the Fallout 2 Retrospective
I liked this video a lot and share the experience of getting the game and launching it being lost and giving up then coming back at a later time. Actually, I played New Vegas for the first time about a month ago and it kick started me playing the whole series (not tactics and not brotherhood) which lead me to playing Fallout and truly getting what makes it SPECIAL on the second try. It’s a game packed with love and that love can be felt all these years later. So thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching and sharing your experience!
Hope you have your channel grow
And grow and grow
Love fallout idea concept
Merry Christmas or happy holidays
I was 14 when FO1 was released. And I loved it.
Same with FO2, but the beginning is harder. Then I had to wait so long for Fallout3...
I want so bad that the FO games go back to their roots. Today, they're just shooters, good ones, but still.
Dude, really good video.
Watched a lot of stuff on this game - and you have unique style, I guess. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed, thanks!
Another restropect on my favorite series? count me in
sick video can't wait for the fo2 video
I have a feeling you’ll grow a lot.
The amount of effort put into this is absolutely insane for such a small channel.
Have a happy christmas, and wish you the best.
Thanks so much! Have a great christmas!
Wow I find it really funny how your progression to playing this game is kinda similiar to mine.
Compared to you I started with F4 and when I grew tired ( three months) of that I saw FV:NV being a thing and people praised it online but at first I seeing it the graphics looked dated and thought it won't be any fun,
so tried it a year later and it blew my mind so that got me thinking about fallout 1 and 2 because I had an old army buddy that said he loved them but when I checked them out again and the graphics and isometric gameplay scared me off,
so another year passed and I felt satisfied with FV:NV so I though "screw it" lets try 1 and 2, bought both, read forums for mods since EVERY SINGLE fallout game you need to mod it for the best experience,
blew through fallout 1 in a weekend and texted my old army buddy a pic of the end screen on a monitor with the caption, "people actually need to play this, it's fun and good for you, should have forced me all those years ago"
took my sweet time with fallout 2 thou, spent 45 hours on my first playthrough and doing my second one now.
Hahah, I think that's the pipeline for most classic fallout fans at this point!
Maybe Brotherhood of Steel isn't as bad as people say? (It is.)
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I was born in 2002 and didn’t play fallout 1 until last year. It is now one of my favourite games. I even enjoyed the combat in this game. I wish they would make another top down fallout
I finally got around to watching this, and as someone who has very little knowledge of the Fallout franchise this was still super enjoyable! The editing was simple but effective and nearly all of the jokes landed for me! (4:06 in particular is too real)
Only real complaint I have is the lack of, or very quiet music, especially when you're specifically **talking** about certain tracks from the game. I know that most of the OST is likely ambient tracks and I think you **are** playing them sometimes but they're simply too quiet compared to your voice. I had to rewatch and crank the volume to make sure they were even playing cause I thought I imagined them 😭
All in all very epic video Tubbz hopefully I'll have time to watch the Fallout 2 one sometime soon lol 🙏
Isnt charisma actually decent in this game with unlocking different dialogues and being able to have more companions follow you?
Not quite! Dialogue options are dictated by Intelligence and the party limit is exclusive to Fallout 2 (and maybe Tactics?)
In Fallout 2 Charisma is wayyy more impressive. I'm playing through 2 now for footage and it's crazy satisfying travelling with a small army hahahah!
Buverhood ov steel innit
"I'm not gonna cover the whole game's story since I want *you* to go and play it!" *proceeds to spoil literally the whole story including the Master and the ending*
All jokes aside, this was a fun video! What I'll say though, is this felt less like a retrospective/review/analysis and more like a simple recap of the story, which I'm not a fan of generally. The bits of humor with meme editing I liked, and I appreciated your opinions on the music. The start of the video where you talk about the history of how the game came to be is defintely the best part of it with the most real substance.
The "gameplay" section is also serviceable enough! This being a retrospective, I guess I would have appreciated going into the various gameplay mechanics and celebrating a bit how they evolved and compare to their New Vegas counterparts since I'm willing to bet a lot of "modern Fallout" fans would appreciate to see what's *really* different between the modern and classic Fallouts, and what was so ahead of its time that it endured even up to New Vegas.
When it comes to the story, the direction of this video feels pretty confused. Is this a retrospective where you'd talk about every bit of the game, or is it supposed to sell the classics to people who haven't played them? Because if it's the second one, you spoil every major beat of the story in this video lol. And if it's the first, this is a very shallow look at the game, actually. You *talk* about the story, but you don't actually *say* anything about it. You don't talk about the actual choices you're presented with, and whether all of them feel equally encouraged. There's no evaluation of the different playstyles and whether they're all written with the same care and quality. There's no talk of the gear progression. Same with whether the game has actually aged well at all under many aspects, nor is there a celebration of how influential it was when it came out *compared* to how surprisingly dated it feels nowadays.
All that said, this *was* a fun little video! I can really feel the passion you hold for the franchise and I love it! Take your time on the next videos and do your best! Don't just recap the story, remember this is a "retrospective"; you're "looking back" at the games, not just "looking at" them at a surface level! I'll be waiting patiently =D
This was really, really helpful! Thanks so much! I'll definitely keep it in mind!
I like that people like this game, because I like this game.
Thx the beginning of this video helped me restart an enjoy my fallout playthrough if you could do something similar for fallout2 I’d appreciate it
Godlike video amigo.
You're passionate and the editing is good too.
Really can't wait for the next ones.
Metallica Monks gang rise up.
Thanks! Metallic Monks is such a bop
Overseer: You saved us but you'll kill us.
Protagonist: What?
Overseer: You're a hero and you have to leave
Protagonist: You can't do this to me? I saved the Vault. YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I SACRIFICED?!
Overseer: You're Out
Protagonist: (Bloody Mess Trait) Out am I?
Not stable on new hardware? It was not stable on old hardware either lol. Genuinely had an eggtimer next to my monitor to remind myself to save every 15 minutes.
Oh and if the game crashed during the save? The savegame was gone. And you were lucky if only the one was gone, sometimes it took them all out. So nearly every successful save I would just copy-paste the savegame folder to a backup folder lol.
I was a primary school kid when I put silly hours into Fallout and Fallout 2. I welcome 3, NV, 4 and 76. I don't understand the denial for 76. It's basically Fallout 4 with multiplayer and similar bugs and it's fine. I think all of those games are fine. The big question is what Fallout 5 will be like. Will they go into more dark and grotesque theme or continue Fallout 4/76 happy silly wasteland vibe.
Yo I just realized they referenced that 'moo I say' encounter in BG3 with the strange ox in the emerald Grove
We shall watch your career with great interest.
I love retrospectives on the first two Fallout games. Only nitpick on yours was small, but hit me like a baseball bat to the back of the head. Tycho was a Desert Ranger, not an NCR Ranger. The NCR didn't exist yet.
Came here to comment that but I saw this comment. Really solid video, looking forward to more fallout content!
I love watching multiple video essay's about a 25 year old game.
Pro tip turn violence down one or two to not have to search item by item after killing enemies when they are goo or dust.
I thought this guy was way more popular he is, with the amout of recomended videos i Get form him
I enjoyed
Tactics is a rough gem, once you sort out the rubbish, its quite fun
1:15 if the creator said GHurps, then it is pronounced GURPS. We say LASER not LahSiEhRe.
I really ought to retry this game. My zoomer brain couldn’t handle it the first time I played but I’m pretty sure I’m mentally equipped enough to try it again
>nobody knows who started the war
In Fallout 2 in the talk with one of the AI computers there is a speculation that an AI may have started the war out of boredom/for fun.
However recently Tim Cain said that it was in fact China who dropped the first nukes on the US, because they were experimenting with FEV. But since it wasn't officially stated anywhere - in the games or documentations - this may as well be Tim's headcanon, even though he's the original creator.
I need to give this game another shot. I'm playing tale of two wastelands now.. Might have to try the originals again after
Cant wait till you get to fallout 3 and 4

I actually enjoyed BoS. I got it a short while after it came out and it was like five dolla Canadian. It is the same engine as the Baldur's Gate one and just is what it is which is a gauntlet like deal with an inventory. Very terrible use of Rhombus and The Wanderer characters to my memory but had hilarious quotables. I am playing both Fallout and Fallout New Vegas at the moment. New Vegas I have never beaten, but this will be around my 100th play through of Fallout. It really doesn't get any better than that for 90s crpg.
Mutants aren’t sterile this is commonly believed to be true but Marcus reveals that he isn’t sterile if you take him to the cats paw in new reno saying quote “we aren’t sterile it just takes a while to get the juices flowing after being dipped”
Chris Avellone in the Fallout Bible states "FEV does cause sterility in super mutants and ghouls - Marcus' comment in New Reno was a joke only (and it was an inappropriate one, for which I apologize for)."
I tend to believe that, since it makes sense for it to be a joke since we've never seen a Super Mutant child but we have overwhelming evidence that they're sterile.
Thanks for fact checking! I appreciate it!
@@TubbzYT I didn’t check but I probably should have seeing as i was wrong i just remembered that line and figured Marcus was being serious

Great video, just don’t lean too hard into being UpIsNotJump
Definitely noted, I'm trying to make the next script more distinct!
@@TubbzYT Good luck, I’m sure it’ll turn out great :D
Gulf. Gulp. Gurney. Gurps.
I do sort of miss the bleak nature of the older fallouts, made it feel more grounded even when there were mutants, aliens, and random easter eggs
Do this for fallout 2 please
The gif defenders haha 😂
You did forget to enter in to The video that part where did you get evidence for Killian. You just Go and kill Gizmo :D for no reason)
Save your game, take it out of the windows machine, put the disc into a Mac and continue to play...
Why do you say that?
@@TubbzYT not many games can do that.
Oh I didn't even know it could do that! Super interesting!
Hey, 76 is pretty good now
I've heard that, I played a little when the Brotherhood update dropped. I'm excited to revisit it!
@@TubbzYTIf Patrician's 76 review is any consideration, prepare to be completely disappointed.
Fallout Tactics is one of my favorite fallout games. I probably rate it Number 4 on my Fallout list. Here's how I rate the games.
1. Fallout 2
2. Fallout 1
3. Fallout New Vegas
4. Tactics
5. Fallout 4
6. Fallout Shelter
7. Fallout Bos
8. Fallout 3
9. Fallout 76
Fallout BOS is actually a good shoot em up. Bad fallout game but more enjoyable to me than fallout 4. I don't mind it. Fallout 3 is mediocre but okay and 76 is trash.
Do a vid on fallout 2
I bought the game and trying it without watching guides on the internet it’s a continuous walkthrough of constant discovery and fuck ups
5:02 the US of real world also thinks they are inviceble... they are not. Tho I fear US will try the Nuclear option in Real Life too (yeah, no communist would ever use a nuke, tho US has used 2 already).
