I usually prefer battletome reviews that go over every unit in the new book. However, there are already multiple youtube channels that do that. So it is very nice that you guys do some deep dives on a few selected units that are core to the new book. Plus, you do some great work with your presentation.
Thanks, Starslayer! When we first starting doing these, I was like 'Should we really be yet anothing channel that goes through all the info from screenshots?' While that was definitely easier than what we do now, I'm kind of happy to see these kinds of comments returning every now and then. So much gratitude for reaffirming our content concept

You're welcome, Drew! Yeah, the problem lies with me recording Ryan via discord probably, because if he records it himself or if he hosts a conversation, there's no problem.
Not sure how to tackle that, but we're gonna do some trial and error next time til we figure it out. Normally it's not so bad though and some videos there's no problem at all. Might be the internet connection but we'll have to see.

I'll have to note about the VLoZD Vampiric Sword, people dismiss the sword due to habbit, however the average damage of the lance vs. the sword, the sword will do more damage while the dragon is not charging, and the lance only slightly does more damage on the charge.
So you shouldn't sleep on the sword at all, but it might be meta dependent due to the rend 1.
I might have seen you mention something like this on facebook (or someone else who did the math) and the sword did look quite good. It's also a great target for flaming weapon, so I have to agree with you. It's a habit to skip it, but it actually looks good now. I kinda forget about it when we recorded it. Definitely something to keep in mind in the re-review in a couple of months.
@@strategoi it's absolutely fair to skip it, simply because that's what we've done throughout 2 years :) but 2 more attacks base and 3+ 2+! wuhu... but again it all depends on the opponent, 2+ saves I'd probably still prefer the lance to just make sure damage goes through
@@MKDietz it's become a fine line though. There's just not a lot of other high Rend around in our army, so that's also a good reason to gravitate to the lance. Having said that, I'm definitely trying the sword next time.
If you guys were to make a Kastelai list, what would it look like?
I disagree on the nagash vs vlozdx2 with the vampire lord at least your getting two powerhouse units that can make up for the loss of one or the other or do some heavy lifting for the army and they gain bonuses from which ever legion/dynasty you choose. Nagash on the other hand is a massive loss if he dies and he gains no benefits from any of the armies you place him in, I love the big bastard but I wouldn't say he's worth it right now. I could be wrong though
Fully agree. He looks like bait. He's very good at one specific thing but it doesn't look versatile enough to be worth it.
Surprised no discussion for the corpse cart, +1 to cast bubble for 70 points I think would fit in a lot of lists where you’re looking to fill that last 90ish points
That's a good point. They sure are cheap and a nice filler unit. We try to.limit the choices to six though and I felt I couldn't say enough useful things about it that aren't glaringly obvious. But glad they get some attention thanks to comments like these. Keep em coming. 👍
And the exploding hits for zombies is sweet. Unfortunately though with any shooting or decent magic, this thing is gonna disappear immediately.

would you take Lauka Vai out of her faction for the 6" attack (through spell) so she can attack while protected by zombies?
I really would like to see some real discussion of Blood Knights or Kastelai in either video despite it being one of the most popular units and subfactions. Disappointing in the extreme. One can only conclude that they are so bad they do not deserve a review. I am not a tournie player, just a friendly game player, but it sounds alarming that so little attention is being given to Kastelai and Blood Knights.
They are too "honest". Solid movement, damage and staying power, but they have no tricks and will melt to Mortal Wounds
They're fine and kast with them you'll have no problems outside of doing really well at a tourney.
People are just salty they can't smash with a list of just bloods. No offence to those people but single unit spam is pretty lame and I believe they are more built howmthey should be vs a movement shenanigan mortal wound machine.
In your case though, honestly nothing to worry about.
@@jakea3950 I played against my friend's Stormcast this weekend and won. I took Prince Vhordrai, 4 BK units, 20 man Grave guard, 1 zombie, 1 skeleton and a vampire lord to buff the GG. It rocked the house. The new hunger makes Vhordrai or VLOZD really hard to kill andthe 2 range and 2 rend for BK really helped their damage output versus the old book.
Do you think an army that’s kind of diverse will be strong at all? There are too many things I want to try and I don’t have enough of any one thing to lean into a particular legion. I was going to go legion of blood for now with a very diverse army to figure out what I like the most. Some skeletons, some zombies, some blood knights, the zombie dragon lord, etc.
I do, yes. Sadly, tournament wise, the top lists tend to focus on one gimmick or unit (like Kastelai blood knights last book), but you can do well with a mixed list.
I played a Blood list with Neffie, VLOZD, vampire, 20 grave guard and then a mix of other units and it was fine. I also feel like it would've been good in different subfactions, so don't feel obligated to stick to one.
Do you still prefer lance over sword for the VLoZD?
For me the path they took with the model range is a bummer, I hate the mechanized look of Neferata's and Mannfred's mounts, and the silly oversized hats on Neferata and Nagash, and the fugly bald Necrarch chaos warrior look for Mannfred (he used to be dashingly handsome in a classic look with raven-black hair) and let's not speak of the russian cosack-inspired model range and the chaos influx of big-ass horns and fur everywhere.
I'm actually not sure about the Lance anymore. When doing the review I was all in because of the Rend, but now... Eh. I'm not sure, I'll have to try both out.
Aesthetic wise, I agree to some extent. The range is varied, because, when they made the mortarchs, they were prototypes for the Ossiarchs. So the mount fits best with Arkhan now. The kossac vibe is something I love though haha.
You both seem to underplay Necromancers. Do y'all think they are not worth running? A 90 point caster with the Deathmage lore seemed so strong to me that I wanted to run 2 😅
I know you're not asking me, but even at 90 points the necromancer only allowing a unit to fight in the hero phase now really reduces its efficiency. Grave Guard will normally kill whatever they touch and they will generally die to whatever hits em, so relatively rare you'll see some in combat when you get your hero phase.
It can happen ofc, but not often, and that's an issue cause if you're not getting the one thing he does that often, you're just paying 90 points for a deathmages spell and I think those points are better spent elsewhere tbh.
The Necro is mainly still useful because of the current need for cheap GC's but as Dietz mentioned, hitting in the hero phase is just a little weird to me. Our only summonable blender unit is so glass Cannon, that they should probably have killed their target already, instead of being in combat for another round.
That being said, I'm definitely gonna try out the Necro's in the future, mainly because of the spell lore. I think they're actually quite good in legion of night.
