- Retevis has been putting out some very cool options for lower cost radios. These are no exception. If you need a VHF (Murs) radio for outdoor use, these are great. VHF gets better range outdoors, than FRS, and other UHF options, and with no license needed, it's a great option.

Outstanding video! Just was I was looking for. I'm glad Retevis is coming out with products that we actually need! Doesn't hurt that the radio actually looks like a radio instead of a neon colored Childs toy.
This works great for short range communication for unlicensed family members. Especially those that just want a push the button and talk simple radio. No license fee, no ham radio license or testing.
I have the FRS version and absolutely love them !
Great radio I've got the European pmr 446 retevis rt617 version and yes they are solid my antannae was held on by a small grub screw i removed it now I can use different antannaes on it.
It’s very interesting and simple use device
Thanks for the vid. I'm wondering if these have extra memory 'channels' that can be accessed via software/programming cable, and have the NOAA frequencies put in??
Good review thanks. Trying to figure out all their models names, RB / RT/ ?? What does that mean? More affordable than the BTECH MURS-V2
Great review! Doesn't look like these are available on Amazon anymore. Are these legal in the USA?
Do they communicate through concrete walls?
Would you like to test generator inlet box ?
I wonder if a plastic bag amd a seal a meal would water proof this radio ??? Or even a ziplock bag with a hole just big enough for the antenna? Just thinking out loud lol
good thing is you can use a vhf marine antenna on them, haha
What part of idaho?
Thanks for this vidéo ! 👍 👍 Best 73 from Normandy France 🇫🇷 Jacky 14FRS119
If you use small beam antenna for really extended range toward 10 plus miles range.
Missed your vids. I was curious what you have going on with the genny and your well. Reason I ask, I have a 60ft well drilled at my place thats as far as Ive gotten so far. Curious how youre pulling water out.
I have a project coming up with that. We’re moving soon, so it might be a bit still.
@@design2survive Sounds good. Looking forward to it.
Does it have the retevis scramble feature?
No. I don’t believe you can program that in.
Are channel 4 and 5 wideband ?
Yes
Are CTCSS tones allowed on MURS?
Yeah
Can I use these with co workers using frs radios, like the retevis rt22?
no
Yes you can use MURS for business. The five common license free types of radios in the United States are MURS, FRS, CB, 49MHZ and 900MHZ. All license free radios can be used for business. MURS, FRS and CB are the most popular these days, but there are 49MHZ and 900MHZ walkie talkies as well. The problem with 40MHZ and 900MHZ radios are, 49MHZ do not have much range, and most 900MHZ walkie talkies are expensive, and can only be used with other radios from the same company. 49MHZ walkie talkies either have 1 channel or 5 channels. The ones with just one channel can hear all five channels, if they are communicating with a five channel 49MHZ walkie talkie, but a 5 channel walkie talkie can switch channels, and of course a 1 channel cannot. Again, the range on a 49MHZ walkie talkie is very small, so they would not be good for business use. Then there is 900MHZ, which is actually part of the amateur radio frequencies, but can be used without a HAM license if they meet two of three requirements. Those three requirements are they cannot be capable of outputting more than 1 watt, they must either be capable of frequency hopping or be capable of digital transmitting. The problem is most 900MHZ walkie talkies output at more than 1 watt, and the ones that are maxed out at 1 watt are expensive. There is also the frequency hopping, which is a problem because all the companies that make them use their own system of frequency hopping, which means they can only be used to communicate with other radios made by the same company. For example, Motorola has the expensive license free 900MHZ DTR and DLR series walkie talkies, but they can only be used with other Motorola radios. The only company that I know that makes a 900MHZ walkie talkie that does not use frequency hopping, and is maxed at 1 watt is Retevis. They make the Retevis RT10 900MHZ walkie talkie. If you want a walkie talkie for work you might wanna get a couple. The 900MHZ RT10 is so cheap you can get about 6 of them for the same price as one 900MHZ Motorola. Motorola has cornered the market on license free 900MHZ walkie talkies, but again, they are expensive, and can only communicate with other Motorola radios because of frequency hopping. Nonetheless, you can use all the license free radios at work, MURS, FRS, CB, 49MHZ and 900MHZ.
MURS is VHF, FRS is UHF.

UHF would work better in a concrete wall building....correct??
@@truehope287 Yes.
lol "weigh station" a.k.a Scale. Killer vid and radios though.
MURS pros
No license at all , ever
Removable antenna so you could connect a larger antenna for better range.
VHF frequencies a little better than GMRS outdoors
Nowhere near as busy as GMRS.
CONS
Max of 2 watts
Only 5 channels
Walmart /Sams uses these too and they are primary on that channel. You are not to interfere.
Not as good in an urban area as compared to GMRS.
I’m putting together an inexpensive car kit for these. I’ve been getting roughly 6 miles range, possibly more. I’ve never gotten that with FRS. Maybe a mile tops. Then when you get to location..pop on a short antenna and use it for around the camp or property. Very versatile. But yeah..Walmart..not good if you live near one.
Walmart does not own MURS, or have any rights to it that nobody else does. You just cannot harass Walmart workers, but the same goes for you, people cannot harass you on your MURS radio. You can be on the same channel using the same subaudible tone Walmart uses, and there is nothing they can do about it, unless you harass them. Walmart uses expensive MURS radios. They have a deal with Motorola, and Motorola makes MURS radios that they only sell to Walmart. It is called the RDM2070D. Lots of people claim to have them for sale, but it is almost never an actual RDM2070D. I have seen a couple for sale online, but since they are made for Walmart, and are not sold to the public, odds are they are stolen. Motorola also sets them up specifically for Walmart. They cannot be programmed, and they come with 7 channels. They start on channel 4, channel 5 with no tone, then it goes channel 1 through 5 with a tone for each channel. My favorite MURS walkie talkie is the Radioddity MU5. It has got features most MURS radios do not. It has 250 memory channels, is dual band so you can listen to and program in UHF and VHF channels, has a full keypad so you can program without a PC. The Radioddity MU5 is by far the best deal you can get on a full featured MURS radio. It is identical to the GM-30 GMRS radio, but can only transmit on MURS
Why are some UA-cam's calling it a frs. It MURS
They have an FRS version I think.
