I absolutely dislike Natlan's region locked character abilities and exploration that either forces you to play as a dinosaur instead of the characters you want to play or forces you to buy another character that's completely useless outside that small area on the map. Nonetheless I'm still playing because I still haven't found anything better to do but I'm ready to jump ship as soon as I do. It also has plenty of quest locked underground areas like Sumeru and we still don't have a skip button. So yeah, not a fan of the region overall. The most important items being in random chests and useless unless you find all 3 hurts it a ton, too. I don't normally go back to areas for missed chests, I just play it again on a new account for the full experience.
At the moment for me Natlan is a faraway dream - I'm only at the end of Mondstadt's storyline. So I know there's a lot ahead of me... But I have to say, as someone who has lived on 3 different continents and has had about as much cultural diversity in my own life as I can manage... I'm *GLAD* Teyvat is not like earth... To me - the complaints about costumes and cultural diversity doesn't feature at ALL in my measure of whether a game is a success or not! There being all black or all white characters really doesn't phase me. If MONDSTADT and NATLAN were REVERSED - we would be absolutely LIVID - because compared to Mondstadt Natlan IS - I'm SURE - absolutely incredible. What I think most players fail to realise is you get used to ACCELLERATION & improvement... you expect the same leaps in improvement every time. If you make Mondstadt your baseline, You'll probably enjoy the game a heck of a lot more. Learning to be content with a game is as much a skill as playing the game itself - in my opinion. Having said that, I can't really comment right? When I eventually get to Natlan I may come back to this video and wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said.
I played Genshin casually before Sumeru, but the game wasn't all that for me. Nothing too captivating or interesting, plus I HATE(D) Inazuma so much that I simply dropped the game after that horrible archon quest. Then came Sumeru and the Harbingers teaser dropped and I just FLIPPED. I remember grinding this game like a bolt to reach sufficient AR to go to Sumeru and honestly, I enjoyed every minute of it, even when the exploration got way too much for me in the desert. I loved the cast, the story, and learned to love the game and get into lore and theories around my time bolting through quests in Liyue and Inazuma. And... I wasn't half as hyped for Fontaine as I was for Sumeru. But Fontaine got me on a chokehold in the first act. I love this region so damn much and it topped my absolute devotion to Sumeru. I was obsessed with it, with the characters, their relationship... Probably the banners I pulled the most. Had I more money, I would have a C4 Neuvilette by now. Too bad I was jobless by that time. However... Natlan... I honestly had my doubts from the start. There was too much confusion about where the f the region is ACTUALLY based on. The Aztecs? Incas? The Maori or Polynesia? Africa? And then they said they came to BRASIL??? Like... My guy, my dude... What the actual f are y'all doing? I was honestly worried when they mentioned Brasil. I mean, I live here. We have nothing to do with Aztec culture or mezo-american mythology. We do have ties more with African culture. And I have seen NONE of that. Xilonen tho... Is quite what you'd se around here. On the spot, surely want her, buuut... Yeah. I'm very disappointed so far. Love Capitano, but I'm not getting any hopes he'll be playable. The last part of the 5.1 archon quest was very good, but I was sincerely irritated after the first act. I'm too deep into lore theory now to quit, but I hope they manage to fix this awful mess. I'm not sold into this region at all and NONE of the characters appeal to me and I personally hated their play style (not saying they're bad or anything, they just don't work for ME) and I won't risk a c1 Neuvilette and my Mavuika for any of them, Xilonen - the ONLY one I personally liked - included, sadly. I have some small hopes for Citlali and Ororon, but they are very dim. Really dim.
I'd say the only thing is that in 4.1 fontaine was not killing it the prison arc felt like prison during 4.1 what fontaine did well was wrap it all up I don't know if natlan will do it that cleanly
Prison felt like prison? You don't say! LOL Yeah, my wife and I absolutely hated the Fortress of Meropede. We have both played it on 4 different accounts, and screamed the entire time.
This plus I thought the war thing was actually decently don't, unfortunately it just the heroes saving the day again which is why gacha is kinda shit your favourite character can't die or change significantly except furina. maviuka is going to be a badass girl who's in control, and she's always going to be that, which makes her likeable but also a bit generic.
I may not like it, but I think it's completely fair for people to. It's a beautiful region. I may have been too harsh on the characters here but I do love the colors and think the story had good parts. Natlan is not for me as of right now, just like Fontaine was not for some people despite my love for it. This video is my own opinion, and despite that, Natlan has its own charm that I understand people liking.
Sumeru is my favorite of all the regions. King Deshret the GOAT! The Desert exploration was peak content for me. Sumeru Archon and World quests, both were really good.
I've been struggling to play Natlan...it feels so directionless to me and all over the place? And gimmicky? Much like you mentioned, the cultural aspect feels very lacking. Maybe it's because it's too early to make up my mind about it, but it feels so ...halfassed??? idk. I would die for Kachina and Ororon, and I will be pulling for Capitano if he is playable, but I otherwise don't care about this region much at all, and I can't wait to just wrap it up and leave.
You know you were disliked only because you mentioned skin color, right? I'm watching a lot of these videos because I feel like this game sucks and I wanted to see other peoples opinions. I noticed that for the most part the criticism is well received, but it's only when skin color/culture is mentioned that the video has so many downvotes. Sad.
I pulled Mualani and Kinich only because I don't want to have to use the animals to traverse the map or reach certain places, but I fking hate that all these Natlan characters are completely unusable outside of Natlan. At least my beloved Wanderer, Yelan and Xianyun can do their job no matter where I go... The whole phlogiston (or whatever its called) and Nightsoul points thing also pisses me off, restricting the Natlan characters teams, at least Kinich's, and also my Mualani never has enough phlogiston to actually do her attacks when needed for some reason, haven't tried her in Abyss because I have better characters for that but I hope u don't have the phlogiston bar there.. even the Pneuma and Ousia thing in Fontaine wasn't this restricting because mostly it only stopped u from doing the dolphin dive if u werent using a Fontaine character Natlan's map design isn't to my liking either with all the tall mountains and having to use the saurians to climb them (I don't have Xilonen yet) but I think I mostly don't like it because NOTHING can top Fontaine's underwater exploration and how beautiful the areas are. Everything is kinda underwhelming after that, I hope Snezhnaya will be on par somehow but I don't have high hopes. Natlan does get points for having Primogems as a reward every level in the sigil offering thing and it not being locked behind 10 years of quests (I'm talking to u, aranara quest..) and also having the crafting and Katheryne close to a waypoint. But then again Fontaine has those last 2 things too. Bit of a rant but all in all, I agree with everything in this video.
I honestly don’t know why people still play this I’ve been playing this game since launch and I can’t even express how boring and long quest are. It ruins the game. Sometime this game feels kiddy. When I played other gacha games like wuwa and star rail I was so surprised”gacha games get dark and have this super nice pacing” I get the appeal with genshin I’ve spent so much money and time on that game but the pacing is terrible once you have maxed characters it’s not even fun defeating bosses. They reuse characters personalities constantly they don’t feel unique. The rewards are always terrible even the free 5 star after 4 years like- oh and the combat is so extremely repetitive game gets to boring
I think natlan is amazing but there are very big problems with representation etc but its obviously not failing everyone is hyped people are whaling, their stocks are going up and its rly fun to explore
I think Xilonen is pretty reminescent of modern day latino women... but I agree that it makes no sense because of the fact that this game is supposed to be a fantasy game. I would actually love to get on a call with you because I share so much in common with you in terms of opinions. If you would like to, I would live to discuss this even more with you in detail
I will say you all said with your own point of view but majority of people like natlan.I saw same video who made after fontaine coming . and about story natlan already surpassed fontaine 4.2 buddy .you need to grow up and need to come out from fontaine hype.
Naw Fontaine (except fortress, was my personal fav still) though i do think Natlan is doing amazing! Fontaine Chapter I and II was better than natlan, But Natlan III and IV was far ahead of Fontaine. Lets hope the finale is great! even though fontaine will be my fav region, Natlan is keeping me more hyped than ever for this game
The sky is literally fake - so is the sun, so characters getting a tan or any tan could actually be close to impossible. Thats the reasoning I use to explain the relatively low number of darker skinned people.
What racist excuse is that? lol The sun is fake but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t create heat or light, the plants need sunlight and the biomes of the regions confirmed that the sun indeed heat the lands, so find a better excuse for your mind
For me it was the reverse I really liked Inazuma and Sumeru was just ok/good because for me the story was just streched so long with boring dialog. I can't talk about Natlans story because I haven't played it yet but I don't have an issue with the represantation of the cultures because for me they are just inspiration and for a fictional space. But I also think the designs are kind of boring. Not because they are wearing something inappropriate but because they just don't vibe with me. And I myself also think that Honkai starrail is far better then Genshin Impact but that's just my opinion.
You only have an issue with Genshin NOW? You must have the patience of a saint to 100% anything in this game. Genshin is just incredibly dated at this point, and having ZZZ and WuWa come out just shows the stark contrast even more. The story was always mediocre, but that's a given with gacha games. I think there is nothing Genshin can do anymore since the core gameplay is TERRIBLY behind the times. Quality of life changes are too little too late, even if I give them props for making traversal far less excruciating with Natlan.
I still really enjoy the game and I don't see it boring but quite interesting. It might be because I am a major lore and narrative player. And for me the narrative is not that great, but it still it's worth to play through the entire journey once. Out of the act there is only one or two Aq that is worth my time to play again. But besides that yhe vast majority that, it's meh or not worth my time to play again or experience the journey again.
I absolutely dislike Natlan's region locked character abilities and exploration that either forces you to play as a dinosaur instead of the characters you want to play or forces you to buy another character that's completely useless outside that small area on the map.

I completely forgot about the obsidian rings being randomized in chests. such a horrible idea haha

I hate archon quests so much, too long, too slow, sucks ass very bad, 99% yapping 1% gameplay. Story kinda good wasted.
I played Genshin casually before Sumeru, but the game wasn't all that for me. Nothing too captivating or interesting, plus I HATE(D) Inazuma so much that I simply dropped the game after that horrible archon quest.

Tbh Xilonen looks more american for some reason
All the story budget went to "Burnice Burnice Burnice" physics
And her booty apparently
I'd say the only thing is that in 4.1 fontaine was not killing it the prison arc felt like prison during 4.1 what fontaine did well was wrap it all up I don't know if natlan will do it that cleanly

That's completely fair, the prison was the weakest part of the story for me too

Yeah
whats so good about it 😭

Sumeru is my favorite of all the regions.
King Deshret the GOAT!
The Desert exploration was peak content for me.
Sumeru Archon and World quests, both were really good.
I was a bit disappointed for something called the land of way it just looked a bit too childish for my taste

I liked Lyneys Show but i have to admit the Murder Case was quite Boring. What was interesting was the Dynamik between Nuvillette and Navia

Natlan is the only region I wasn’t excited for and still don’t care about🥲 (I’ve been playing Genshin for 3 years)
I hope Snezhnaya will be good
I hate fontain archon most like 3+ hr in FOM clink clink clink. And about Natlan it's best than fontain hands Down
I hate my X, most like 3+ hr just plap plap plap. And about your m*m I finish faster and it's best than my X hands Down
@Hoyodeaf_bring_PJC_back dang man why do rude i can Reply in slur too but i won't
Yah I aint waste 6hr+ listening to NPC or Natlan Characters YAPPING nonsense or unimportant Lore.
It's just a game why relate it with real life
I will say you all said with your own point of view
