My favorite thing about this movie is the treatment of Jor El's character. It's established that every kryptonian is designed for one purpose. Zodd was a general before he was born. Jor was chosen to be a scientist. He fights two armed guards because he taught himself to fight, which fucking blows Zodd's mind. The amount of work Jor put in and the heresy he committed just to save his family while his world burned was just pure fucking heroic. It's the first time I can remember thinking "It makes sense that superman is this guy's son."

What I love about Man of Steel, we don’t get the long drawn out back story. The flashbacks dropping little nuggets of information when we need it was brilliant, the best one was Papa Kent looking at young Clark with his little cape ❤

Every time I see this movie, I’m more amazed by Cavill’s acting, his portrayal of both Superman and Clark Kent. You can tell this character meant everything to him; he put a lot of emotion into it.

Jonathan Kent was a true father figure. His priority was protecting his wife and son. Clark going with his mom made sure she was safe, and he made sure his son wouldn't face the backlash of bullshit that'd come with using his abilities by trying to save the dog himself. He was simply being a dad by what he did. Regardless of his son's powers. A lot of people hate that scene, but I don't mind the way it played out.
The craziest part of Superman to me is in literally all of his physical interactions with humans, he has to move himself when they touch him because nobody is capable of moving him themselves unless he is unconscious. When he is holding any level of tension in his muscles it'd be like trying to pick up a skyscraper with your pinky. So when that guy "saved" him from the crab cage, he had to fall backwards on purpose, otherwise the guy would have just collided with a steel wall.

Great reaction. FYI...Henry Cavill wanted to test the "no one recognizing Clarke Kent was Superman". He wore a superman t-shirt and stood right under his poster. NO ONE recognized him. 1 person stopped him to ask for directions, He then went into a coffee shop and was asked by a patron to stop taking pictures. I had major chills throughout this movie because of how much I loved this character and why he's the legend we know.
Zack Snyder's vision, David S. Goyer's writing and Hans Zimmer's score.
With this as the DCEU's beginning, the journey from here has been gratifying to me.
Hell Yeah and Christopher Nolan wrote a lot of the script too if only this team had full creative control and final cut on this project and the rest of them.

Also, you should totally check out Batman vs. Superman Dawn of Justice next. And when it comes to the batman beating Superman is crazy thing... They demonstrated multiple times in the comics how Batman would be able to do so when he beats almost every other superhero by using his brain and deductive abilities to figure out their weakness as well as plan so meticulously that he comes out on top.
Which is still stupid. Bat is still human and shouldn’t even be able to dodge or use any gadget before super speed individuals could take him out. Superman, the flash or Wonder Woman should all be able to beat him before he even knew they were even there.

I was in the movie theater watching this when I found out a very good friend of mine had passed away suddenly. I haven’t been able to watch the whole movie since then because it brought back a lot of bad memories, BUT, I finally watched it again with you! As far as your comments on the ending goes it's not really just the glasses that usually camouflage him from people knowing he's Superma, it's the body language it's the higher pitch voice, the clunkiness, just the goofball antics that Clark Kent does that really disguise it. At least it did in the Christopher Reeve version.

My favorite part of this movie was at the end when Jonathan was fixing his truck & he stopped & watching Clark as a child like he can see his son's future. Beautiful Beautiful moment. I really enjoyed Man of Steel bc it tells me more about Superman's story & his biological parents' stories. And as for Mr. Video, omg love u man bc u made my evening. I really hope that u can continue to watch the DC movies.

Congratulations on watching this! I agree... it's a masterpiece! Zach Snyder made one of the greatest superhero films of all time! I felt like this was how the world really would react if Superman suddenly existed here on Earth (unlike how he was just accepted without question in the film starring Christopher Reeve). As much as I loved Chris's portrayal of Superman, this 2013 film showed a much more realistic story. Our Pentagon would NOT be happy... at least not at first.
The level of destruction Superman and Zod caused is more destructive then the entire Avengers movie lol.

Honestly, Zod should be embarrassed in the beginning: he's supposedly one of that world's greatest general's, trained since birth for battle. Yet we see Jor-el absolutely bring the pain! The general, bested by the scientist.

It has been explained before. Jor-El had training, he was also fighting for his family, while zod was emotionally distressed and acting impulsively and recklessly. Not to mention it's Russel Crowe, he's the fucking gladiator 😅

And I was trying to understand Zod but my guess was that he was very misunderstood & annoying asf bc he just wanted to destroy & take over. Jor-El was telling Kal-El about his identity & making the choices. Remember Kal-El was raised in Kansas, for goodness sake, not to invade.
When he pulls her out of the pod and then turns upside down to absorb the blast, it’s just awesome

Reeve was the best one and I wasn't even born when that first movie came out....Henry is good, but they didn't let him have any charisma or charm in the movie. "Clark" persona needs to be portrayed with a whole different demeanor than when he is Superman.
Brandon Routh was actually good too, that script was just trash with that weird ass director
No one has played "both characters" as good as Christopher Reeve and I like Henry cavill.
Too many people dislike this, glad to see another MOS supporter. This is my fav Supes movie. I could go on about the score or the casting of the Kents and Cavill. Costner's harsh yet important lessons, Superman straining to hold himself back. It's not perfect but it's still amazing.

I love that Zack Snyder made a point to SHOW the Oil Rig being so hat that the steel was melting under Clark's strength. I've known far too many people that say stuff like "If Superman is so string that he can lift entire Stadiums, why does he struggle with a plane of helicopter." The answer is that even though HE is invulnerable and that strong and powerful planes and helicopters are NOT. Technically he CAN grab a plane and just stop in suddenly in mid flight, BUT Gravity and physics means that he would tear off whatever he was holding and the rest would keep going. Same thing with his ability to fly. If Superman actually took off at FULL Speed, he would push the Earth off its orbit. Even Flash has never "started" moving at full speed. The Speed Force would rip a tear in reality; And Superman at full speed would ignite Earth's atmosphere. Killing every living thing and instantly (or very VERY quickly) vaporising the entire planet's water. When Jor el says "He'll be a God to them." That's NOT an embellishment. He literally IS a God to Humanity. Even the beings that are KNOWN to be Gods by humans can barely touch Superman. Zeus, Hades, Ares, etc. They have nothing On Superman.
your flight point doesnt really track given that superman has true flight. He creates his own leverage. Wouldnt push the earth at all
@@itzsamic It does when you actually look at the screen in front of you. Did you NOT see that he left a decent dent and crack in the ground as he took off?? This showcases him pushing off the Earth to gain momentum. While it's true that he quite literally defies Earth's gravity, launching AT full speed requires a point to push off of. Getting to full speed is a whole other issue. Granted he also knows how to NOT do that. The point is that he could. if he chose to.

They combat against the Kyptonians and the human soldiers, specifically that fast seemingly teleporting movement in hits is probably my favorite example of how superbeings would appear in combat against humans.
