  • Brewster McCloud (Bud Cort) lives deep within the cavernous underground of the Houston Astrodome, but his dreams rise much higher. He aims to fly. Not in a plane. But with strapped-on wings he’s designing - encouraged by a mysterious woman (Sally Kellerman) who may be his guardian angel. But Brewster McCloud, Robert Altman’s wild, anarchic cult fave, isn’t about dreams as much as it is about the highs and lows of humanity. It’s a serial-killer mystery. A frenetic car-chase flick. A crazy circus-finale comedy. Shelley Duvall debuts as the tour guide whose seduction of Brewster may lead to his undoing. Ah, love. The thing that at once shapes and unravels us. The thing that may or may not give us wings.

This film is truly a work of genius. Packed with subtexts and symbols, the film pulls no punches in its critique of well, everything. But it does so within a literally uplifting story. Of all Altman's wonderful gifts, perhaps this is the eccentric masterpiece. Unforgettable.

It was a sick and twisted movie. But if you grew up in or even knew about Houston in the early 1970’s, it was a treat! Astroworld and the Astrodome to watch the Astros play was awesome! The Astrodome was a treat to watch baseball because you didn’t have to watch the game in 90 degree weather with 90% humidity and swat mosquitoes like you did with the old Colt 45’s games!

Young man tries to accomplish a physics defying feat of derring do by holing up in the solitude of a magnificent location? Holy crud this is just a really twisted superhero movie isn't it? Love that the cop is reading Marvel in the opening shot. Was Altman ahead of his time?

In fact, I bet if the artist seen the ridiculous Bud Cort looking so similar to his artwork, it woulda been back to the drawing board for poor Waldo... Which is just the same drawing repeated over & over again but still comes away with more personality & fame than Ol' Bud will ever know
