- A re-imagined edit of the last scene from Robert Altman's "Brewster Mccloud" (1970) to the song "The Next Life" by Suede. The first time I heard this song, I was instantly reminded of this scene and had to put the two together to see how it felt. I think they work well together without ruining the overall impact of the ending. Granted, I have removed the circus part at the end and left it feeling more somber. Hope you enjoy.
This is really beautiful, and it's cool to see a film where, despite all the planning and thinking, dreams don't come true.
But it did come true.
I’ve never been more confused as to whether I should be laughing or crying in a movie.
@Skulldini
it looks like he was tired and couldn't keep on. also the narrator mentions that the bodies of humans have not been designed to sustain flight. birds are able to do so as a result of millions of years of evolution. It's either that or he was screaming in frustration because the dome was closed and he couldn't get out, so he just decided to give up.
What a wonderful story 😓😓😓
the song fits perfectly... good work.
R.I.P Brewster that was a brutal kill 😳
You picked a perfect song for this!!
Perfect match!
very well done
Weird ending. Did he really fly or just imagine the whole thing?
I love that scene and song there he goes oh no 😢 he died
He got to fly in that 70 roadrunner earlier in the movie.
I actually get very sad- all Brewster ever wanted to do was just fly 😞
3:05 rip 🙏 ☹️
This song is perfect for this movie 😓 what happened to him did he fell on the ground? I guess nobody knows
He fell.
This song was in the chase with charlie sheen?
Harry Potter and Wheres Waldo ! lol
Luke Brody Thats what i was gonna say lol.
Yes your right
whats the song playing??
The song is called
the next life: by suede
2:40 uh oh I know somethings not right look out
(crash) no buddy
2:30 y is he screaming 😱 is he scared or something 🤔 is
(thing breaks strings )
breaking
brewster: what? oh no something is breaking 😢
aaaaahhhhh
me: oh no buddy 😢 look 😢 out
(crash)
me: (feeling worried) buddy ?
the thing is very simple, he begins to feel tiredness and fear combined with the concern of not knowing how to stop flying, the fact that he does not know how to stop flying causes the device of machine's break and death
So, was he the killer?
I think it was Louise
He said he was but they never showed him doing any of it in flashback, nor explain why he was doing it.
Almost as sad as that bit with the stoic cop after the car chase.
such a classic Altman ending
Since it was a quirky 70s movie, I expected some dopey, upbeat, dated forgettable pop song to ruin the mood of this scene. So I was pleasantly surprised by this song.
Then, wanting a longer clip, I came across one with the original song....and it was a dopey, upbeat, dated forgettable pop song to ruins the mood.
Jeremiah Johnson and Billy Jack are main offenders.
Slammed in between the juggernauts of 'M*A*S*H' and 'McCabe and Mrs. Miller', 'Brewster McCloud' deserves reappraisal, for it is too often casually dismissed as 'not one of Altman's best ' - a lazy critique if one considers that even if so, it is still far more creative and strange and free than just abou anything being made today (where even some of the best, most sober and measured films are heavy with 'meaning' and 'reimagination' and 'representation'). But that is the film's great merit: it is weird and free and at times silly and at times bittersweet. As the comment below says "should I be laughing or crying'; 'Brewster McCloud' is the direct descendent of 'M*A*S*H', which itself is a comedy with silver vertebrae of sorrow punching through it all the way.
Strange movie,.. good though. However, what hapend? .. Did something go wrong mechanicaly with the wings or did he fly too high, get tired and run out of strength? .. I'm not certain which.
I'm pretty sure what happened was there was no whet one for him to go, so he just kept going around in circles till he ran otnof energy and fell
he had sex w/shelly duvall and sally kellerman wanted him to be pure for the flight
The Astrodome
He starting to skrech like a child at the end.
Yeah I always thought that
