Hey Daryl, even though this video is now 5 years old, i gotta say that I like the way you explain things
I'm working on my diploma assignment at the moment and out of all the videos I could have found, I'm glad i've found yours. You make the subject sound interesting and engaging, and you pretty much explain every step on the way, really making this a comfortable experience.
Needless to say, I've saved this video and from now on it's my "go to" video whenever i need to refresh my memory on rope mechanics or strings and what not.
I hope to see more videos from you :)

Ground plane is done with a circular ramp mapped to transparency and its set to be single sided so it on shows up when you are above it.

    Hey Daryl,
these Maya Monday videos are an incredible treasure, you manage to bundle so many little tips and tricks into them, which makes them incredibly useful. I wish you could make more such tutorials.

Love your high poly count objects there. Made me think of the movie Brave.
I understood the hair stuff and animation well. And felt proud that I kept up with what you said. But I bet you can do much more complicated things than you showed here.

This is fantastic! Would love to see a video of an nDyanmics simulation with the objects being weighted to joints for baking after, I can't seem to figure out a good way to constrain the simulation to joints to bring it into a game engine afterwards, the constraint never seems to stick!

You should do a tutorial on drapping wires/ ropes over objects in a scene. with the dynamic hair system of course.

Thank you for this tutorial, but i just wanted to know, how you get this type of high quality viewport, is this because of graphic cards or their is some magic behind this??

How do you have your scene set up to look like that? What are you using for a ground plane?

Nice job daryl, my question is, what if i wanna create water underneath and make a collision between the bucket and the water, is it bifrost? (ocean, pond) or dynamics?

Thanks for the tut, I'm trying to build a punch bag hooked by a cable using the nhair dynamic on an keyframed animated scene, and the simulation won't start. I tried on a new scene and works fine, what could be the issue, can help me on this?
    Thanks!

oh my, that is one beutiful looking well! god damn! :O really nice tutorial with nHair too! im just more interested in how you got thr well to look so good, is it all because of the textures? i cant imagine you having many polys since the viewport is rebdered/calculated so fast in realtime... :)

Great tutorial, but I've been struggling with something for a few days. Long story short, I want to parent my dynamic rig to the surface I constrained it to, or to the object that the surface is constrained to. But every time I move the parent object which in my case, a catapult, the rope animation translates wrong and the dynamic animation breaks. I can find no answers on Autodesk, thanks in advance.

How would you make it so the bucket drives the animation? Example, bucket sitting on the side, gets pushed off, and it falls pulling the rope.
