On my R6 I use a magnet through the filler hole to hold the shaft in place whilst pushing the cover onto the bike.

yes this video is just for reference but i would advise replacing the gasket if old or any damage at all, this engine is fresh and the gasket not old so it was reused

Easier way is take the oil cap off n I can guide it right in easy peazy
