- Wizards new OGL (Open Gaming License) allows for some terrible legal theft. And so I present a reenactment of the new OGL and how I got around WOTM (Wizards owed the most).

porch wizards are the fucking worst man. I had a DM throw them into an encounter one time, they were damn near impossible to get rid of. They kept randomly appearing in places, and claimed they had licensing deal with the creator deities, and that we owed them gold in exchange for some "copyrighted" action we had carried out.
Oh man!! You had MULTIPLE porch wizards? They’re so hard to take on in groups like that because they basically just pay themselves on the back endlessly.
@@ConstructedChaos jokes aside, I did have a DM run a campaign where a random wizard would show up to harass us and give us quests. The wizard's name was Kal, and we knew he was here to fuck with us because his porch would just appear somewhere. Be it a usually empty city wall, in the middle of a vast desert, or deep within the hallway of some palace, a porch and front door would appear.
And my DM ran hardcore campaigns at the time, with perma-death in the form of your character sheet getting ceremonially burned in the backyard. So getting a visit from this temperamental porch wizard was like if the grim reaper showed up high on cocaine and forced you to come inside his magic van to hang out for awhile. He would also randomly make you pay him a toll of teeth (or he would apply negative status effect to you), so you have to constantly collect teeth throughout the game.
@@herpderp728 Haha honestly, it sounds like Kal might have served as a bit of comic relief--even if he was an asshat.
@@ConstructedChaos it was hilarious and horrifying at the same time. The DM struck that note between terror at losing your character forever and humor because the death is caused by things like Kal pushing a rude player through a door that caused him to become locked in a timeloop he can never leave. The other players opened the door, and the player had died after living 80+ years locked in the timeloop room. The walls were covered with scratches of him trying to get out. He was given a new character that was basically a farmhand/warrior essentially kidnapped by Kal and frozed in time for 250 years, only becoming unfrozen to join our party.
That's what made him memorable. Kal the wizard was certainly funny and ridiculous, but he wasn't a joke. You were terrified when he paid you a visit. Our final TPK for the campaign happened because Kal needed us to "go see a guy in a place about a thing", which turned into a long convoluted plot to get him out of his bar tabs and ultimately ended with us locked in a room with a black dragon because we didn't play our cards right. (We did get the dragon down to 4HP in a fair fight before we died, it was a good game).

Time to use ORC from Paizo and all the other publishers (the original OGL 1.0 authors are going to try again). I believe Pathfinder 2e is not at risk (especially with Paizo offering to pay legal bills), but I'm curious to see what ORC will contain (mechanics, etc).
I’m excited to check it out too! Expect some non-DND TTRPG content and more skits like this to start making their way onto the channel!

I would absolutely love if people would watch the latest episode of LegalEagle and perhaps also give the podcast he mentioned, (Opening Arguments episode 675), a listen.
It's sad and even nauseating seeing people enter hysteria mode over misrepresentations that is getting parroted by some in the UA-cam D&D sphere...
It all seems that it may be fairly moot now anyway! Please, don’t take this video as anything other than a satirical commentary on some of what has been talked about in the space. I’m not trying to spread any misinformation.

But I have seen large UA-cam channels who has parroted nearly word for word the extremely bad take in the article where the leaked draft was first published.
And also a lot of further misrepresentation/misinformation about the matter.
SOME UA-camrs has been making a lot of drama that were uncalled for, but sure, it has probably benefitted their channels, because who wants to hear rational people with rational approach, rational takes and rational criticism - when you can get "torches and pitchforks", and "let's kill the BBEG and burn the village down".
Come to think of it, perhaps it was stupid of me to think D&D players would react in any other way... 😂
@@gorillaguerillaDK Haha Personally, I saw no issue with raising awareness of the issue with a video or MAYBE two to keep the community informed. But there were definitely some channels and creators--who will remain nameless--that shamelessly published every single day to say exactly the same thing over and over with no real updates.

Exactly, and often leaving out some very important things from the leaked draft, and after having listened to not only Opening Arguments episode 675, but also having watched the video LegalEagle put up, that also was about what the leaked draft actually said, and what it didn’t, and because it was put up later than the OA episode, also managed to get the latest development of the issue included.
Now it’s going to be interesting to see if any of the UA-camrs who basically just repeated the article, again and again again, will ever talk about the parts they misrepresented, or if they will just ignore it, pretend they were right, and now that people are wired up, attempt to squeeze more drama out of the issue!?
Luckily there’s also UA-camrs who’s been much more calm - and really, props up for all of you….

The game we want to play has long been from our imaginations, not from wotc. They also suck at game design, so we are better off just ignoring them and developing on our own.
I love the framework they've provided but, yes, I absolutely agree that the best games/sessions/campaigns come by our own designs!
