- Today we’re installing a 2nd gen swap kit on a 2014 Dodge cummins 3500 4x4 dually fourth generation truck. We decided finally after months of research on what we believe is the most awesome reasonably priced power packing kit on the market to go with smeding diesels 2nd gen swap we added a billet wheel to the turbo a stainless steel cast intake 360 degree thrust bearing making this turbo completely clockable. We been driving this diesel powerhouse for some time now and this kit just added another level of power. Anyway getting back to why we’re all here! I want to tell you the mods done on our coal roller cummins. We have just recently installed from apex diesel a full delete EGR DEF DPF all emissions bye bye 👋 a full mbrp 5” stainless steel exhaust system 💥 arp head studs studded 💪🏼 valves push rods heavy duty extreme duty ❤️ the best ez lynk tuner with tunes bigger air intake horn boot 🥾 whatever it’s called you get the picture we got maximum flow! However we yet installed until now our second gen swap stainless manifold and much more! If you get ez lynk and Want shift on the fly capability to protect your trans tranny transmission and have a 68RFE or aisin from lockup converter crappin 💩 itself install the gdp sotf switch!!! There’s also a video on my channel for the SOTF switch shot in 4K!This is a how to from a non professional if u mess up your truck that’s on you this is for reference to mine only!

I’m not bashing your kit but I’m glad I didn’t go with smedding I went with Wehrli fab and the kit puts the turbo facing up with a new down pipe and delete the coolant stand pipe and I went ahead n bought a new coolant tank from them and no issues with ac lines. But love the second gen swap. Mine runs great tows great and I also got the s464

My compound kit form smeding sets my s300 of the mani up ablove the s400 under it! I really wanted to go Wehrli basically due to the powder coating but at 2400$ with turbos and manifold compound kit even if it’s not the best is a deal that can’t be passed! I’m gonna eventually send all my piping from my banks cooler and full monster Ram intake kit to Wehrli to get all pretty up in Candy Teal for my San Jose Sharks!

Seth Spigelmeyer means alots thanks for the kind words. It’s not that bad honestly if you can change oil you can do this swap. The most challenging part is getting the old one out and putting on the boost piping on the new one.
I just ordered the 2nd gen compound kit for my 06’ 5.9l with a fresh built Black Water Engines reman with 12valve connecting rods and wrist pins along with ARP studs! Yep Dave has been awesome to deal with! I’m excited to get it in a few weeks! I e got a bunch of mods along with injectors and cp3 package! And hey I noticed you don’t have cables on your charge system yet! Well if your looking g to upgrade mine make Custom Cables look like it belongs in a civic! My kits are the real deal and all made to order in the colors of your choice! All Excelene welding lead at 2/0 and 3/0 started cable and the rest #2 and #4! It’s a must have for the Cummins charge system! I make hem for all vehicles! Thanks for the video gonna help out here in a few weeks when I’m doing my compound kit from Smeding!

360 thrust isn't for clocking the turbo. Otherwise good info for diy people.

@@frontwoodsfarmer2063 A 360 offer more oiling surfaces for turbo shaft. Standard bearing is a "270°" which has 3 oilways. A "360°" has 6 oilways.

It sounds awesome, did you have to me disconnect the Exhaust brake to do the swap or is still working??
Thank you no the exhaust brake is no longer working when u go to the 400 series I used the only way to keep the stock exhaust brake when switching turbos is to get say one from a 5500 they are 400 series with exhaust brake I plan on adding an aftermarket here soon
You never finished mentioning what you did with the Ccv and the reason for the high pressure

I’m back and forth with 2nd gen swap and compound setup to keep exhaust brake, how is towing with no exhaust brake?
It’s not as horrible as I thought it would be but I’m currently saving for an aftermarket brake i don’t plan on totally eliminating I’m just waiting for funds. I looked hard into compounds that’s why I went with these guys too if I decide to go compounds down the road it’ll all work together. Let me know what u decide! Thanks for the comment!

Hey thanks for commenting! I was really careful and bent my AC lines but really wish I didn’t have to I didn’t have any issues yet though. I will say I love the kit otherwise decently easy install and preforms really well.

Ctt tuning knock on wood zero issues I use the gdp switch recommended though and what I mean by that is the setting. It’s setup 1-5 5 being short races etc (seldomly used) 3 (street tune) is what I keep it on and don’t dog on it I tow only on two the towing tune. When I stick to all that I haven’t had an issue with slippage or heat. The only thing I noticed is stopping with a heavy load when it stops I can’t for say bump stop quick at a stop sign or it feels like the transmission gets confused too much going on at once. So if I bring myself to a legal lol stop it’s perfectly fine. Thanks for commenting!

I know this may be a dumb question. But do you need to drain the oil for this swap?
Good question I’d contact smeding diesel directly truthfully because I never thought of that. I however did not but I didn’t think of it.

It's recommended to drain your coolant before but not oil. Oil pan holds all the oil below the drain hole.
