GREAT REVIEW....been thinking about upgrading my Control 4 remote...but still having to justify spending $500 or $900. Don't see my value for me. Your review did a great job of comparing the two...thanks for your time.
You won't really get content on the screen, I don't think that would add value like that. So far with Apple TV and Kaleidescape, nothing really shows on screen. I'll have to include that detail in a future update as a few folks have asked.
Actually the default FIOS (cable tv) screen on the Touch is the most useful so far. Soft buttons for subtitle on/off, DVR, Guide, Menu etc. plus full number pad for channels.
@@jerryhahn7206 Interesting…….that’s great that there’s a number pad……any idea if this would be across all cable tv platforms including DirecTV?…….wonder if there’s a way to include a favorites list of channel names or logos?……maybe a future update?
I was able to verify this with a Kaleidescape, and I was wrong. There are panels of buttons that the remote can make available specific to the device being used. I don't have a cable box to test though. For K, it did give 2 pages worth of additional controls. For Apple TV, you just get one button (Home).
You said the battery has run down after being left out for "just a little bit". Would love a little more detail on that: Is that hours? A day? Couple of days? My SR-250s last a few weeks with rechargeable AAs. Would also really like to see what the screen shows on the touch when you have a media source like the Apple TV or Kaleidescape selected. Finally, any idea if the battery is replaceable? I have the rechargeable battery in a couple of the SR-250s, and one of them has now failed. It's easy to remove and replace, although I just switched it to AA because that's possible with that remote.
My experience with the Touch is if I'm not charging every other day, it'll run out of energy. I'd really like to be able to leave a remote out on the coffee table for a week and just charge it every Sunday, but not with these. I'm not aware of replaceable battery. I can show off the screen more for sure. You really don't get anything any more though that is device specific on screen since the transport controls are on the buttons.
Personally I don’t understand the issue with battery runtime. Both Halos (and the Neeo before them) come with beautiful charging cradles that I position on my end table. After each evening’s use I re-place them on the cradle. I’ve never seen the battery level get low, never mind deplete.
Regarding what the Halo Touch shows on its 3.2” screen with AppleTV … a little house icon and the word ‘Home’. Roku show colored buttons and numbers, but also seems relatively useless. Hopefully these screens can be customized to add useful functionality. I’m not a programmer, and my C4 guy won’t be here for a few more weeks, so I don’t know yet.
@@jerryhahn7206That's great if there's a convenient place to have the charging cradle near where the remote is used. Most places in my house, that would be true, but I do have a remote in one location (my dining room table -- I often watch TV while eating) where there's no convenient nearby place to put a cradle.
I know you done a video regarding Apple TV 4K setting however I’m not sure what going on with HBO’s Max app. Every-time I put match content setting and put a movie on Max, that says Hdr10/Dolby Vision, the movie is dark compared to a HDR movies from my Plex server. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it something on my JVC nx5 side?
Thanks Jaremy - great comparison and unique on the internet to date - and just on time for me. The virtue of enhanced programmability with selections available on screen (vs. having to be memorized on the number pad) may push me towards the Touch. But after using both for a while, I also have some thoughts. The Touch is a bit heavier and falls out of hand easier. The sculpted back of non-Touch (NT) is larger, better balanced and easier to hold. The finish on the Touch is more premium, but the NT actually feels better in the hand. As you mention, the backlit buttons are quite a bit brighter and preferable on NT. To access the pause/play (my favorite buttons) on Touch, most of the remote is out of my hand. With NT it's in my hand. The Touch screen has to be cleaned a lot more often. Even though the NT is too big and has wasted area for number buttons, it just feels better in my hand. No question the Touch is a nicer overall size. But function rules the day and if it is truly more programmable, it's also the Touch for me.
@@TechthusiasmGreat point about how much better the Touch would be if they had allowed simultaneous navigation using the D-pad in addition to touching the screen to select menu items. This would allow 1-handed operation and a significant boost to ergonomic functionality.
Hello Jeremy, thanks for the video. I did not know there were new C4 remotes. I have my original SR260 in my dedicated theater but does not use it because I use the app on my 8 and 12 inch Samsung tablets for the past 3 years. I can control everything faster that way in sitting in my theater chairs and my tablet on a tray table of tablet stand mounted to the chair. I would like to know how they stack up to the Neo though. Thanks PM
I am in the process of upgrading the Neeo to Halo. Your video is exactly what I needed to look at the Touch. I agree it would be hard moving back to a non touch screen. You did not mention the response time compared to the Neeo. I assume,e that is what is meant by it Halo is far better than the Neeo. I will be a regular to your channel Thank you my friend. G
Yes, you would get the smallest Control4 controller plus a Halo. If you're interested in a referral on this, reach out to me at jaremy@techthusiasm.net.
Many folks use tablets for control, especially in a dedicated theater room. The Control4 app is really nice. It would work. You just lose some quick access to things. Making an input mid-show/movie will require waking up the phone, unlocking it, then finding and pressing buttons while looking at it. You can do that same operation in
Wow! You surprised me on picking the Touch! When you 1st received the Touch you weren’t too happy about it. I can see charging a $100 maybe $200 more but a $1,000 for the Touch is too much! Scratch my name off the list!😂👴🏽
Thanks!
Amazing! Thank you so much!
You’re right. I’ve been waiting to hear comparisons and thoughts of these. thanks
My pleasure!

Awesome, thanks!
No shit. Might as well just buy an iPad mini
Fantastic, Jaremy, great review! Thank you, muito obrigado!
Sorry if I missed it but how was the voice control? Did that work well with the Apple TV?
Yes, so far so good. I'd have it had a few misses, but overall I love being able to use the "what did they say" command.
@techthusiasm
Any idea what the touch screen would display if running directv as far as channels?

So channel #’s, names or logos do not show on screen?
Curious how you would choose which channel since the touch has no number buttons

MAX has had some growing pains, maybe this is more of them.

Yeah, if you think you even want to tap into a little more power in the long run, then get the Touch now, IMO. I'll be keeping this Touch.

The Halo destroys the NEEO. I think the NEEO was never very good nor reliable. Using a tablet is a nice way to go too!

Excellent! Welcome to the channel! The Halo is much better all around than the NEEO, IMO, in terms of features and operation and design.
Would this work with my setup?

LG S95QR Soundbar
Apple TV 4K
Zidoo Z9X 8K
Nintendo switch

Thoughts on using a dedicated iPhone as a remote instead of touch…

My Harmony Elite still destroys both C4 remotes: It's powerful, elegant, lightweight, fast response, simple to use and more beautiful.
It was a shame we lost active support/development for the Harmony line.

It’s a $350 price difference.
@@AudioVisionIncHe said the Touch was around $900 I just rounded it to a $1,000.
My MSRP might be slightly off street prices right now. But, yeah, I'm keeping this Touch model and sending the non-Touches back to Dan.
The touch tanking to more energy. Can’t make a single day with the battery. I I’m very disappointed about this product. And it is to expensive
I hope to see more improvement in battery life, yes.
