- Lab599 has revealed a new Manpack portable QRP radio that they are calling the TX-500MP. This looks similar to their previous TX-500 model, but it is clearly made to drop into a backpack and has all of the ports on the top of the radio for easy access. Very little is known about this radio right now, but I will share with you what I have learned so far.

Xeigu showed everyone how to get 90% of the way there with the G90. Put in a $15 internal soundcard and figure out how to add 6m, 2m and 70cm even if those are at reduced wattage.
Totally agree!
This sounds like a cool addition to my radio arsenal. The Lab599 TX-500 is my main radio for POTA. I have the DIY599 PA500 amplifier coupled with the TX-500, this is an amazing duo together, great audio reports all the time while doing POTA. Looking forward to getting this new radio. Thank you Jason for making this video, all of your videos are awesome!!!! 73!!!
Very interesting radio. I hope that they make at least two (2) accessories for it: 1) An interface cable that would allow you to use a mil H-250 handset, and 2) A small hand-held remote control unit (RCU). This would allow the radio to remain in the man-pack and still be used. If they were smart, they would market a complete line of additional accessories including a manpack with Anderson PP power distribution and storage pockets for accessories, a matching 20W power amp/ATU, and a battery system. I included the 20W PA as this has proven to be the best compromise of output power vs battery life as shown by just about all of the current military manpack HF radios. Keep up the good work and enjoy Hamcation.
Agree. In fact, what were they thinking with 10watts! , because 20 watts are "best compromise of output power vs battery life".
And of course a mil audio connector.
Shut up and take my money. I don't care how much it cost I want one. Finally a form factor that makes sense.
A manpack HF would be a nice addition. It is good to see some innovation coming for portable operation.
This would be a very packable radio!! Thanks for sharing! Enjoying all the videos!!
That HT is a chunker! It looks pretty cool. Hope the performance is good too!
I hope so too
Love how these smaller companies are coming out with all these cool new products! Listen up Yaesu and Icom.
Yep
I'm excited to learn more about this new radio coming out!! Looking forward for more content about it!!!
If they made these 20w I would be all over it regardless of price, but I can’t justify that money for a 5 or 10w radio… my g90 is portable enough, just need to reroute some cables (minor inconvenience) and I’m good to go for 1/5th the price
The world NEEDS handheld (HT) HF SSB/CW rigs! And so this is great to see! However, I really hope it has a built-in microphone, and PTT button on the side! (If it does, I'm in! If not, I'll pass because it is a big deal for us that want HF HT's).

I hope it has usb c and can be powered by the usb c port and hope it comes with a internal sound card
Build this radio now it is what I have been looking for.
Excited to see how they manage a resonant 20 or 40 meter manpack antenna 😂 Guess a super antenna like model with “tape measure” whips may work. But not too long - or the battery may charge when you pass low hanging, domestic power lines
Need to compare with a KX2 using as hand held.
As soon as I get one
First thing that occurred to me as well. I also here how the KX2 is delicate and the Lab500 is so durable. I am not sure if either statement is completely correct.
I'm interested in the TX500 MP though it would be nice to have an internal automatic tuner. I always try to adjust my antennas to be resonant. BTW, 0.6 kg = 1.32 pounds.
Odd that this has yet to show up on the Lab599 website
Yeah I thought so too
Even Icom hyped up the 905 months before it was officially released. Ham Radio Outlet had a pre-order spot for it on their website.
Nothing of the sort for this new TX-500MP. Not saying that Lab599 has to showcase ipcoming products, but it helps to solidify claims if they do.
Good looking radio for sure, but already got the IC-705 and just got a Kenwood D-75A a few days ago.
I myself am not crazy about the Chinese made radios, let alone a Russian made one now. Yeah, I know Chinese parts are in most of the radios now, but I tend to lean towards the Japanese radios as they seem to have better quality builds and/or cleaner performance. Would rather have a simpler transceiver with cleaner TX/RX than a cheaper radio with more features and dirtier TX/RX. I do like that the TX-500 is made of solid aluminum blocks though. Again, just my opinion.
That radio looks awesome, tnx Man!
Still waiting on the battery for the TX500. What good is a man pack without the matching battery pack.
AN/PRC-515
I think the tuner would be the best addition
interesting radio. hope to see sound card with rig control. but still Digi Rig a great item. I got one with discount code saved some money and got free carrying case which is great. Dennis at Digi Rig was very helpful getting me cables for non listed radio to work and that was a go ! I was so happy I told Dennis and he updated cables on his site to list the radio I have. my happy story is from Ham radio 2.0 / Giga parts and Digi Rig. all 3 worked together to help me make my Radio work FT8 and outher digital modes. and was the Radioddity QT60 (Anytone 5555N ) 10/11/12 mobile radio . working SSTV was fun. got a interesting pic from England . Derbyshire . was snowy like old TV . but MMSSTV working great. maybe a Bluetooth link for that radio would be super. even if just a add on . 73's
Do you have that discount code?
@@BobBob-il2ku it's Jason's call . KC5HWB.
Already own the Discovery. I don't see enough perks to purchase this new model. The built in tuner is a nice addition though. That said, the MP seems to have a smaller screen and no tuning knob. UP and Down buttons instead ? No bueno.
Thank you for the video.
It does not need tuning knob because in first its just modernized "professional" version of transiver - Discovery TX-500PRO ALTAI.
@@dmitriy9543 Hello Dmitri, in your opinion, what makes this radio a Professional model?
@@beowolfso.6096Hi, firstly, the professional version of the TX-500 transceiver (TX-500PRO and TX-500PRO ALTAI) is open for TX in all range, and not only in the frequency ranges classified as amateur radio. Secondly, in addition to a professional radio operator, it allows a wide range of people to work on it, even if, for example, the frequencies on the channels were programmed by a professional. So the interface is such that functions that are not needed just for ordinary voice communication are hidden in the menu.
It is necessary to understand the specifics of the country in which and what for the transceiver was created. Long distances, low population density and lack of infrastructure and communications in many parts of it. I was in this country 8 months ago, due to certain circumstances, for example, all commercial western satellite communications are not working there now. So HF communication is often the only type of communication.
You just need to type "Discovery TX-500PRO ALTAI" in the search and will understand all from the photo better than from my poor English, 73.
@@beowolfso.6096 Do not consider me impolite, I had replied to you, but apparently my message contained something contrary to the channel's policies and rules, so the message was deleted. My apologies to both you and the author of the channel. 73.
Completely agree with you. The extended transmission range, unnecessary for HAM radio and built in tuner do not compensate for the small screen, the absence of tuning knob, the absence of three ports - can not be connected additional battery during charging of the BP-500 and no separate port for CW.
It needs a better antenna connector if you plan on running whips
Yeah
I wish it could do 100 watts.
That would totally defeat the purpose of portability. Spend your time and effort on a better antenna.
And the point that you find no company information is, that they are from Moskau!
More like an HF handheld than a manpack because display is on the front not the top.
True
Look again at that label in the center. It looks like it says DATA
It's a low res image, as I said. Hard to tell
It does... I looked at their other photos and you can see it say DATA
Does it use the BP 50 battery pack?
No clue yet
@HamRadio2 Thanks buddy. Appreciated. Looks like it does from image. Can't see a new tooling being made for this.
What is the reference to the TX-500 PRO in the literature? Also - if your computer has a sound card there is exactly zero need for a digirig.
Untrue about the sound card. It's a different kind of sound card.
@@HamRadio2 what does it do that is special?
Like 1,600$$$😮
You never know
it drom Lab599 you kow its going to cost zlot @@HamRadio2
Probably, another extortionately priced radio, ill be sticking with my USDX unless I take out a second mortgage.
me and my ft-818 xd ..@@A.ShogunNamedDave
The manufacturer is Russian and is circumventing the ongoing embargo by selling via a transit country, in this case the United Arab Emirates. 😒
I find it morally reprehensible to advertise/support companies whose revenues could worsen the situation in Ukraine. 👎
If you're from USA, it's morally reprehensible to even open your mouth
IDK, seems like both of you might be smoking something...
My intention was not to be rude. I was just trying to articulate a real problem.
I don't know what this other viewer "Sergey"' agenda is?
Come on with the sound card really
$500 JUST FOR A BATTERY PACK? LOL THEY CAN STUFF IT
$1,198?
Russia made… thanks but no thanks!
Should be a competitor for the new Elecraft KH1?
But it'll do more than just CW
Hello together, Nice TRX 👍 is this a kit, like the QMX or DL2MAN or a Ready built trx?

No it isn't a kit
