Edit: No, this video didn't age poorly. The episode happening has not in fact caused my opinion to have changed lmao. I feel I should specify a few things here. 1. The reason this episode is called "Why I don't like Frieza VS Megatron" yet I talked about my preference for Frieza VS Unicron Trilogy Megatron is because people generally when talking about Frieza VS Megatron use G1 Megatron, and I believed it went without saying which version of the character I was using. Apparently though some people just didn't get this, either because they were too ignorant and not paying attention to the fact that Unicron Trilogy Megatron is not the same in any regard to G1 Megatron and also that he's not part of the composite people generally put together for the matchup. I dislike Frieza VS G1 Megatron, and I really like Frieza VS Cybertron Megatron, but the the VS Community the former is just "Frieza VS Megatron" and a general lack of Transformers knowledge amongst them prevents them from realising how truly meaningless that name is when it comes to discerning which character Frieza is fighting. 2. Frieza's motivation is generally to get money, yes. However when I talked about Frieza's motivation it was just to set up the idea that Frieza is not in any way motivated by the same ideals and core beliefs that Megatron is, though I should've been clearer. Frieza's core motivation is to do evil shit and kill people because he wants to continue his rule over the universe and wants to have a lot of money, as well as at points being motivated by fear for the Saiyans or a need to get taller, eventually also being motivated in beating down Goku. However these remain counter to Megatron's motivations of wanting to help the oppressed of Cybertron

Agreed and I do like alternative that Nemesis proposed, of Cybertron/Galaxy Force Megatron. However that's not gonna prevent me from looking forward to this episode, since while it isn't the most ideal match up, it has been a good while since we got a Transformers match up, and Frieza has been a combatant I wanted In the show for a while. I just hope the community is able to handle themselves considering what happened with Guts vs Dimitri. I also really hope this video doesn't go down, it was actually the video that made me subscribe to Nemesis in the first place, and regardless of the current situation I still think the video is well made.

I didn't realise until now, but Animated Megatron and Vilgax are incredibly similar: -Ruthless Warlord that towers over the heroes. -Grievously injured in a space battle during the pilot, restored for the Season 1 finale. -Seeks the Mcguffin in the hero's possession. -Doesn't really acknowledge the hero as a rival, just an obstacle, until the end.
True. Animatet Megatron didnt even bother to remember Optimus name till Season 3. He never saw him as a threat, the only Autobot Animated Megatron fears is Ultra Magnus. So yeah OG Vilgax and Animated Megatron are a perfect matchup

@@Silverwind87 TBF, just fighting an opponent made of isn't an insta win for Magneto, he's believably lost to Iron Man and Dr Doom multiple of times, characters like Molecule Man and the Beyonder could turn themselves into metal and that wouldn't make Magneto anywhere closer to beating them, and Galactus is covered head to toe on a sort of metal and yeah, Magneto has yet to be some sort of game changer against fighting him off, and if you wanna argue that Galactus's metal is non magnetizable made of cosmic atoms that protect him from Magnetos effects or something, fair, but Magneto has at one point used his powers to control a celestial, yet more often than not, if a celestial comes to earth knocking, Magneto is not putting a dent on them, or making them even flinch a finger, so yeah, depending on how powerful, what type of power, the gap in power, how smart, and how many abilities and resistances the character has, they could be made of metal inside and out, head to toe, and Magneto would still lose to them, or win in a massive struggle
And Optimus Prime was built for the same purpose but on the other side. They were literally built to be rivals. They are the primary Archetypes of the Autobots and Deceptions

Only because the diamonds don't have that many feats. It would take some serious scaling BS to justify that they're anything about planet busting given they're supposed to be above all other Gems in power and we've had SU gems that can do some ridiculous things. (ex: Lapis bending an entire ocean for one)
I have somewhat similar issues with compositing all versions of Link together for a fight but for me, I feel that limits matchups you could give Link since each Link has their own story that could be thematic with another character whereas just merging them all together just gives you a hero who reincarnates all the time. Two matchups I can think of for an individual Link are Hero of the Wilds Link vs Aang and Hero of Time Link vs Kid Goku (a match Biff suggested in his Smash video which I slowly started to like). With each iteration of Link by themselves, they have connections with their opponents (Aang and Wilds Link are young heroes caught in a cycle of reincarnation who were sealed away for 100 years before finally awakening, traveling around their worlds and finally achieving their destiny of bringing peace to the world/HoT Link and Kid Goku are younger versions of iconic heroes who lost their parents in a tragic battle and sent to a new world filled with people far different from them, unaware of their true origins and species, even becoming engaged to a princess by accident) but if you just composite every Link together then Link is just a reincarnating hero, that's about it since by compositing him, each iteration is just one incarnation among an endless cycle and don't matter so his only matchups at this point would be video game characters he's similar too or would rival like Cloud or you could put him up against The Dragon Born because both are open world sand box characters now but that just sounds boring to me. I like my ideas better, where the story of each individual Link is considered, not just that he is a video game character with a bunch of different versions. I like the idea of Kid Goku vs Hero of Time because Like the idea of the Kid Goku with his Power Pole and Nimbus fighting Link with his sword and shield, I like the idea of Fierce Diety Link or Giant Mask Link vs Great Ape Goku but if you just composited Link then not only would there not be connections anymore but now most of The Hero of Time's arsenal would be irrelavent next to the better stuff a Link gets in other games. This is why I like Wally West vs Archie Sonic, they chose a SPECIFIC version of Sonic and his story instead of just EVERY Sonic like they did for the first Mario and Sonic, means that characters with multiple different versions could have those various versions get their own fights which would make them unique since they would have their own stories, personalities and abilities separate from other versions.
Yeah, when you make composite versions you have the risk of just turning the character boring, I love Link vs Cloud 2, but I can't remember a single thing about Link's analysis, since they're talking about a reincarnating soul and not a character Now that you mention aang, its like making a DB with him, but instead of talking about Aang and his journey, history, personality and relationships, they just talk about the avatar himself, how his soul is destined to reincarnate in a new flesh and bring balance to the world, then they spend the rest of the analysis talking about abilities and powers and end it by saying "The world shall never fear when the avatar is around". Its just halfbaked when there's no info about the journey or who the character is and instead its boiled down to three sentences about the concept of the composite and the rest is just the "Abilities and powers" section straight up from the wiki page

As a dragon ball fan I also hate this match-up. Freiza really doesn't have to much to say about him. He took over the empire from his father, and has been stated time and time again to be unreformably evil. The entire reason he hates goku so much is because up til his fight with goku, no one had ever given him such a challenge, let alone gotten him horrifically mangled like he was, and he despises him for embarrassing and mocking him on namek, showing that freiza holds long grudges. Freiza is nothing like Megatron, and I know that with my limited transformers stuff.
Hmm, while I don’t mind this match up ever happening, I can definitely see why you dislike Frieza vs Megatron. It’s good to hear how the connections here don’t make sense, especially from someone that is a massive transformers fan. And I do like the different match ups you’ve suggested as they seem to work much better. That’s usually what I like when seeing vs match ups or death battles, I want to connections to be strong. Like it makes a lot of sense and it works thematically. That and it’s nice to see that is a better match up for Frieza since his other match ups suck. Same with G1 Megatron. And it is nice that you acknowledge other versions of transformers to be used in death battle or other debates since using other versions of character be just as good to use and fun to debate on. Especially when writing or doing a video on said match up. I appreciate this video and giving a more in-depth reason on why this match up doesn’t exactly work and suggesting more better ones. Also, True Form Brainiac is stronger then True Form Darkseid? Just why? Why DC? Why make this?

The connection I like the most between Vilgax and Megatron is, they care about their homeworlds. Megatron became a villain because he wanted to help his homeworld, while vilgax has been shown to sacrifice himself for his people and his people love him
I literally just made a fan score for boros vs ridley, I thought no one else would ever consider that match-up, I think I prefer it over Vilgax vs ridley too
I personally like both of those match ups. Plus, just seeing Nintendo's single most evil, bloodthirsty, and terrifying characters come to death battle would be amazing. But I was thinking about another character Ridley could face in the place if Boros or Vilgax. What if the matchup was Meta Ridley vs.... Predaking from Transformers prime. As both are terrifying mechanical space dragons whose mere presence instills fear into others.
As someone who's transformers knowledge spans Transformers Animated, about a season of Transformers Prime, two of the Michael Bay movies and a couple random toys I had as a kid, it's interesting looking in on something that's apparently way bigger and more complex than I would have ever assumed. Also, while the connections definitely aren't there, I think the fight would make for a pretty interesting dynamic between the two. Something like the Frieza Force invading Cybertron and during the fight Megatron is trying to keep destruction to a minimum and protect as many Cybertronians as he can, while Frieza is indiscriminately destroying everything, killing Decepticons and his own men alike. It would of course lead to a finale where Frieza gets so fed up with actually having to put effort into a fight against someone who isn't Goku that he just blows the whole planet to hell without getting what he came for, leaving Megatron enraged and even more ruthless than he was before, filled with righteous fury. The ending either leaves the Cybertronian race extinct or Megatron the last of his kind
I honestly didn't really know enough about the two to realize this, I just kinda liked the "David vs. Goliath" aspect. But you bring up a lot of good points, and anyone who acknowledges _Cybertron_ is a really awesome person in my book.

Honestly pretty cool you used Cybertron Megatron as an example, it is kind of true most continuities that aren't connected to G1 get ignored in VS battels. Though if you are more interested in the dynamic than the battle I doubt death battle would ever cherry pick specifically Cybertron Megatron.
Finally got done with the video and enjoyed it. As one of the G1's who helped make the blog for this fight, which I hope you read because I thought it was great, I wanted to share my thoughts on the matchup itself. I do respect and understand your view on why the ideal matchup leaves a sour taste in your mouth with great points, however, me being a part of the blog and researching from both sides truly made the G1 version a blast and thought that the connections to fictions greatest villains made sense. I never thought of the match itself until the others were suggesting the matchup for the Community Death Battle to where I thought it was amazing to see, that kinda shows how a lot of people want to see this fight at their max. I do understand that finding an official Megatron was pain and lots of factors can be stated for Cybertron is better, which I also liked from your view, but Megatron's G1 just had more version based on the classic that made it more cannon for that. And, the fight blog was very close which the verdicts were 50/50, which was worth choosing as the number 1 choose matchup for the summer break. Overall, I liked your episode and truly respected your view on the matchup. I hope you like this comment and hope to talk more in the future. Keep it up with the good work, and stay awesome.
Given the scope of the Optimus vs Amuro's Gundam, finding other match ups involving other Transformers and mostly mecha's are hard to analyze these days & may result in a mismatch due to powerscaling and are not really realistically demanding (unless if your a mecha fan savy like....that guy who comments on Death Battles before insulting your favorite characters and analyze that for you) and some of them are really not very familiar by the Death Battle community itself. **and yep, You won't see a Macross or a Gurren Laggan Match up anytime soon I supposed. The closest thing we could potentially get is a Transformers Goon against a Gundam Federation Goon (Zakus, GMs, etc) but I don't see anyone suggesting this. & no, not a Megatron vs Char Aznable pls....Char deserves better than that.
@@GaidenDS10 I am still confused as to how they got Optimus' height so completely wrong. Optimus would only be knee high to Gundam, standing 6 meters compared to Gundam's 18m. Mobile Suits are a LOT bigger than Transformers.

The best Megatron for Frieza to fight is GalaxyForce/Cybertron Megatron, this Megatron has the most in common with Frieza especially if you look at Galaxyforce Megatron the fight between those 2 would feel like it would have allot chemistry in fighting term.
I was going to say, if there was any character with the name Megatron, it should be Transformers Cybertron Megatron! Even the rediculous feets these two commit are to the level of anime incarnate!
I don't know Transformers but I do know Frieza. Honestly I am glad you took the time to fully break it down why you don't like it. From my point of view, it made a lot of sense. Sadly some requests are more likely to happen that aren't good matches or technically are good fights but less on the connection aspect.
Honestly id like to see more of these. Maybe even the opposite side where you talk about matchups you like? Its up to you either way. Honestly the newer idea you brought up does sound pretty awesome. Ill take just about any Megatron in db at this point, hes one of my favorite characters in fiction especially G1, Beast Wars, and IDW. Id love to see him represented against someone like Frieza or Vilgax and hopefully pull out a W especially since like you I expect Unicron to bite the planet sized dust
You have my sympathy NB, my favorite show of Transformers is Transformers Prime. While it might seem like a combination of the Michal Bae movies and G1, it actually does a lot of things different from both. Some good examples would be Wheeljack (Prime Wheeljack would have more in common with G1 Sideswipe than G1 Wheeljack), Starscream (because unlike G1, his attempts to usurp Megatron have lasting consequences and there are points in the show where he is allowed to be threatening), and Ultra Magnus (he actually has traits that distinguish him from Optimus Prime as opposed to G1 where they feel like the same character). My favorite example would be Arcee, in G1 she doesn't have much of a personality beyond her love for Hot Rod and Springer or her motherly instincts to protect Daniel. In Prime, she is still dealing with the loss of her partners Tailgate and later Cliffjumper, her friendship with Jack helps her open up again.
Pleasantly surprised. Great video. I figured being two famous characters with great physical strength, varied energy attacks, fly under their own power, can survive in space, and have armies... was enough to make them an interesting match up personally. Obviously a thematic match up would make it better, but that's enough to be interested in analyzing how their energy sources differ, their compared strengths, their compared defenses, etc. So for most your vid I was going, "I know all this, I agree, but it can still be a good match up to compare their power sets to a depth I haven't bothered." But then you brought up a version of Megatron I somehow missed. Very cool. Love the vid.

tbh when I made that freeza vs mega track I wasn't fully aware of megatron's personality and attitude at all... I didn't even know he transformed into a gun. feel free to call me dumb for this. also I apologize for making an idea you dislike somewhat popular.
With the concept of Cybertron Megatron VS Frieza, that made me have an idea for one scene in the fight: Basically, both of them realize that their enemy is a lot stronger than anticipated, so they both have the idea of sacrificing their entire armies just to see the main enemy die or at least be severely damaged. So of course...they heartlessly obliterate the entirety of their armies involved in the fight. The music and atmosphere sort of have this moment of silence to show just how utterly fucked up these two are for doing this as well as the scale of the destruction. Then the camera pans back to a now destroyed battlefield with Frieza and Megatron still standing, ready for (presumably) the last part of the fight.
Wally West vs Archie Sonic happened so i guess there's a slim chance that they will specifically choose Transformer Cybertron Megatron to go against Frieza

My preferred Frieza fight that I did request on the official form is Nero Cladius from the Fate/Extra series vs. Frieza basically a battle between two extremely powerful, and cocky/egotistical emperors. Although technically Nero no longer has that massive diva-esque ego thanks to her time with her master Hakuno and now has a more flirty, playful type cockiness ala Bayonetta, where as Frieza yeah he has an ego on par with Gilgamesh's ego, and both are on the low-to-mid multiversal level of power as with Nero we do have canon evidence of her being on this level of power as in the Extra: CCC route she was able to in her base form tank attacks from BB and later defeat BB and BB was a being in the low-to-mid multiversal level of power along with having low-level reality warping via her Noble Phantasm the Austeus Domus Areous, where as Frieza is argued to be in the low-to-mid multiversal level of power due to fighting in the Tournament of Power. And this is a lot fairer then the match-up most suggested for the lead heroine of the Fate/Extra franchise that being Nero Cladius vs. Azula from Last Airbender which is a curbstomp in Nero's favor so bad it's not funny. At least Frieza stands some chance of winning granted he'd have to get 4 kill-shots to get the DB win due to Nero's Thrice-Setting Sun skill.
@@quilavalover8232 Golden Frieza was shown to be constantly on the same level as Blue Goku & Blue Vegeta but that was before the Broly movie. Frieza was on par with the two saiyans but in the movie, Blue Goku put up more of a fight against Broly then Frieza did. He just got his ass beaten for a hour straight which is an impressive durability feat, the whole scene was hilarious

You know, the way Nemesis described Megatron vs Freeza and Vilgax vs Ridley (matchup for only the one of the two characters) is similar to how I describe Godzilla vs Eva Unit-01, a matchup that exists only for Eva Unit-01. If you want a matchup for Eva Unit-01, I recommend Eva Unit-01 vs Kiryu, Eva Unit-01 vs Founding Titan (a.k.a. Shinji vs Eren Yeager) and Eva Unit-01 vs Gipsy Danger.
Its also how I describe Bill Cipher Vs SMG0, which is a matchup that exists only for SMG0. Bill Cipher can fight Shuma Gorath, and SMG0 can fight Mephiles The Dark.
You're right that it's unfair to take traits of multiple versions of a specific character and pass them off as all traits of one specific character. You're also right that Unicron Trilogy Megatron works better with Frieza in terms of connections than G1 Megatron. Regarding the possible matchups for Frieza, the best options that come to my mind are Lex Luthor and Shao Kahn, but I have a doubt that Ben and Chad want to reuse either of them a third time, moreover Shao Kahn is not very appreciated by the Death Battle fanbase. Also, I'm very sure Shao Kahn dies in a very, very few seconds against Golden Frieza. As for Megatron, I have matchups in mind for a few versions of him 👇 G1 Megatron: Classic Skeletor (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe classic series) Unicron Trilogy Megatron: Frieza (Dragon Ball; As you say in this video) Animated Megatron: Vilgax (Ben 10 Classic Continuity) Bayverse Megatron: General Zod (DC Extended Universe) Aligned Megatron: Pyrus Helios (Bakugan Battle Brawlers; My favourite matchup for Megatron as a whole characther).
Here's a pretty interesting Transformers vs matchup. They could do Hudiemon vs tigerhawk. They're both characters that fuse to become one person by the end of both series. It'd be pretty interesting too because despite being champion level, I'm pretty sure hudiemon is actually pretty strong for one, probably could be around ultimate, or maybe arguably mega level, although tigerhawk you could argue matches up to the power level of both megatron's and can control the weather and earth's continental plates with ease. It'd also be an episode where I'd be incredibly hard pressed to find a character to route for, because despite being a humongous beast wars fanboy, and I like both tigatron and airazor as characters, and despite not really liking wormmon in hacker's memory in comparison, I really do like Erika as a character and would get pretty upset if she did die.
My main issue with it is that it also ignores Megatron's power up forms (Galvatron and Super Megatron). While some may argue "He HaS tO hAvE sOmEoNe TuRn HiM iNtO tHoSe", there's various versions of G1 Megatron, and Megatron in general (especially Unicron Trilogy Megatron) who've either unlocked those, or similar, forms, or just got stronger, just from absorbing energy. Not to mention, Megatron will ALWAYS find a way to come back stronger. Something that makes the Death Battle redundant other than to show just how ridiculously OP Dragon Ball characters are. 😂
Personally I always wanted to see a Death Battle between Megatron and Makuta (Teridax) from Bionicle. Two large mechanical main villains from beloved toylines.
If anything, G1 Megatron has more in common with General Zod than he does with Frieza. Both Megatron and Zod are dark colored galactic warlords who are primarily interested in the preservation of their failing planets, often zeroing in on Earth to accomplish that. Zod and the more nuanced versions of Megatron start a revolt to get rid of what they saw as a problem with the current system, the main difference being that Megatron only started the more violent revolt after the higher Cybertronian powers screwed over his peaceful revolutionary attempts, while from my knowledge Zod woke up and chose violence immediately. And they both regularly throw down with red and blue heroes. Still probably not the best matchup in the world (mainly due to Zod having similar strengths and weaknesses as Superman), but I still think it works better than Frieza vs Megatron.
This battle is a stomp or a close match depending on what G1 Megatron we choose since a composite one easily oblirates Zod to non-existence via anti matter manipulation
To be honest this is probably my least favorite thing about Death Battle: since they use composite characters, not only does it overpower many of them but also means that alternate versions people love and are just as famous are ignored and very rarely used. Animation was awesome though
I agree. I always thought that Cybertron Megatron is a much better matchup. But I have to disagree on Megatrons motivations in the G1 cartoon. He didnt just collect energy to fuel Cybertron. Optimus and the Autobots wouldnt have a problem with that. Megatron expressed often in the cartoon his ambition to collect also energy to fuel his warmashine for galactic conquest and thats why Optimus desperately tryed to stop him from acquiring energy.
In my opinion, I think the fight does have five "good" connections: 1. Both are iconic villains in their regions (classic west versus east fights they like to do, similar to OPM vs Popeye.) 2. Both have different forms (Galvatron and Golden Frieza.) 3. Both killed or injured close allies to the main protagonists. 4. Both came close to killing their rivals (Optimus Prime and Goku.) 5. Emphasis on being a galactic threats that threaten significant planets that are related to the protagonists. The fight definitely feels like a similar previous DB episode, Beerus Vs Galaxia, in the case that one wanted to conquer, while the other wanted to destroy. This was just a way of showing a better connections that does have some support from their own universe, I respect your opinion and this was my take.
In this video, I kinda like the detail with Frieza looking angry in the thumbnail of Frieza Vs G1 Megatron, and Frieza smiling in the thumbnail of Frieza Vs Cybertron Megatron. It shows Nemesis Bloodryche's thoughts on these matchups. Also, at least it isn't Bowser Vs Frieza(What even are the connections?).
Edit: I added 2 other connections for these 2. Ok so I can definitely understand Frieza VS Cybertron Megatron, but I think I just found one of the best and unknown MUs for Frieza, that I have to thank a guy on UA-cam called Ed Padilla for, Frieza VS Pyron (Dragon Ball VS Darkstalkers). Here are the connections: 1) Main Antagonists of their series. 2) Born/created on their own planet (Pyron on Hellstorm and Frieza on King Cold's Unnamed Planet). 3) Are Aliens. 4) Incredibly arrogant and prideful, which often leads to their downfall. 5) Have destroyed/conquered multiple planets across the universe. 6) Challenge/kill certain races (Pyron with the Darkstalkers and Frieza with the Saiyans). 7) Do atrocious and destructive acts by their own free will. 8) Command/have commanded the races they challenged/conquered (Pyron with Dimitri and Frieza with Vegeta and Broly). 9) Have tried to destroy the Earth and rid it of all life once or twice before. 10) Shown as fighting game characters before. 11) Capable with reasoning (especially Pyron who didn't destroy the Earth after finding some Darkstalkers as a worthy foe). 12) Command armies to conquer/destroy planets. 13) Often considered one of the most powerful opponents in their series. 14) Have 1 or 2 other MUs requested before but aren't as good (Frieza with Megatron and many others and Pyron with Chernabog). 15) Shown to have an older brother in their series (Frieza with Cooler and Pyron with Terramon). 16) And finally have had their series appear on DEATH BATTLE before (Darkstalkers less so but come on guys, WE NEED MORE DARKSTALKER MUS!).
I found a blog that describes the similarities Intergalactic tyrants with large armies at their command who serve as the iconic nemesis to the main hero of their respective series (Optimus Prime and Goku). Both also have purple theme to their appearance and one at least one occasion, both have teamed up with their rival to fight a more powerful opponent (G1 Megatron having to team up with Optimus against either Soundwave or other betraying Decepticon, and Frieza and Goku having team up to fight Jiren).
In my opinion, Grovyle from Mystery Dungeon is the most ideal matchup for Lucina. Sure, there are other time traveling characters like Chrono and Stocke, but the circumstances behind Grovyle's time traveling matches Lucina's more.
@@JanAside It might be because of the unorthodox nature behind the matchup. After all, nobody ever really thinks of Pokémon vs Fire Emblem could have any conceivable matchups. But that's honestly what makes the matchup so much fun. It's a princess against a fucking Pokémon. That's hilarious and badass at the same damn time. Plus, there's so much creative potential if one incorporates Grovyle's entire movepool, especially since MD Grovyle has a few moves that his species doesn't learn via level up. While we're on the subject of matchups for FE Awakening characters, I personally feel like Chrom and Robin's best thematic matchups are Leonhardt from Record of Agarest War and Alto from Stella Glow respectively.

Honestly, I know the connections for G1 Megatron and Frieza go about as deep as a bowl of soup, but that's ironically what makes the fight so interesting (for me, at least). Allow me to explain. Something that I noticed in your video is that the similarities need to be nearly one-to-one to work when in actuality would do two things: 1. Provide a reason for why the fight would happen. You said it yourself, Frieza destroys because he can, and Megatron fights for the glory of Cybertron. What better way to start the fight than with Frieza attacking Cybertron simply for the fun of it? And Megatron would be compelled to defend his home, just like in Apocolypse vs. Black Adam. 2. It provides the opportunity to show their differences through how they interact with each other (see the reason above) Maybe this is a controversial or poorly thought-out take, but it's one that I simply find interesting. It's like in Joker vs. Sweet Tooth, their connections are only that they are mass murdering clowns but they do it in very different ways and bounce off each other very well. I hope I explained this well enough
They probably just use G1 Megatron because he's the most recognizable. Even a lot of people who know next to nothing about transformers can look at that design and know who he is.
Yeah, that's the excuse they gave for primarily using 10 year old Ben for his Death Battle even when looking at the whole series. Ten year old Ben and his alien roster is more recognizable so besides Alien X, they're not going to show Feedback or Chromostone or aliens that are far stronger than his original roster, they're going to show XLR8, Four Arms and Way Big because that is what is more recognizable...even though that isn't his strongest aliens and that's not what he looks like now. No wonder people think they only used his ten year old version, that's practically all they showed besides Alien X.
@@MysteriousTomJenkins Alien X was really the only one that matter in the long run for the outcome (whether you agree with it or not) of the match up anyway considering they compare combatants at their absolute best and his abilities are leagues above any of the other aliens Ben could have used. But it would feel wrong to not mention them or feature them in the animation at all. Edit: They did a similar thing in voltron vs power rangers where they used the og megazord for the fight but said in the conclusion the upgraded version would also probably lose to Voltron.

Which honestly makes little sense for an empire to do, unless it was like making people lords whilst still being beholden to the emperor which is weird but whatever, which I guess is a connection to how megatron harvests them for energy whilst freeza harvests them for cash money. Tenuous connection and pretty much at best stretch but it's more than just being a sadist. Also I think this motivation was stated in an interview and not in the manga/anime, because toriyama wanted to make the connection to real estate agents clear.

If you use idw megatron vs frieza, megatron easily matches frieza in every category expect speed frieza easily blitz megatron and megatron can oneshot frieza if he can land a blow.... I feel I should specify a few things here.
1. The reason this episode is called "Why I don't like Frieza VS Megatron" yet I talked about my preference for Frieza VS Unicron Trilogy Megatron is because people generally when talking about Frieza VS Megatron use G1 Megatron, and I believed it went without saying which version of the character I was using. Apparently though some people just didn't get this, either because they were too ignorant and not paying attention to the fact that Unicron Trilogy Megatron is not the same in any regard to G1 Megatron and also that he's not part of the composite people generally put together for the matchup. I dislike Frieza VS G1 Megatron, and I really like Frieza VS Cybertron Megatron, but the the VS Community the former is just "Frieza VS Megatron" and a general lack of Transformers knowledge amongst them prevents them from realising how truly meaningless that name is when it comes to discerning which character Frieza is fighting.
2. Frieza's motivation is generally to get money, yes. However when I talked about Frieza's motivation it was just to set up the idea that Frieza is not in any way motivated by the same ideals and core beliefs that Megatron is, though I should've been clearer. Frieza's core motivation is to do evil shit and kill people because he wants to continue his rule over the universe and wants to have a lot of money, as well as at points being motivated by fear for the Saiyans or a need to get taller, eventually also being motivated in beating down Goku. However these remain counter to Megatron's motivations of wanting to help the oppressed of Cybertron

Agreed and I do like alternative that Nemesis proposed, of Cybertron/Galaxy Force Megatron. However that's not gonna prevent me from looking forward to this episode, since while it isn't the most ideal match up, it has been a good while since we got a Transformers match up, and Frieza has been a combatant I wanted In the show for a while.
I just hope the community is able to handle themselves considering what happened with Guts vs Dimitri.
I also really hope this video doesn't go down, it was actually the video that made me subscribe to Nemesis in the first place, and regardless of the current situation I still think the video is well made.

@@Silverwind87 TBF, just fighting an opponent made of isn't an insta win for Magneto, he's believably lost to Iron Man and Dr Doom multiple of times, characters like Molecule Man and the Beyonder could turn themselves into metal and that wouldn't make Magneto anywhere closer to beating them, and Galactus is covered head to toe on a sort of metal and yeah, Magneto has yet to be some sort of game changer against fighting him off, and if you wanna argue that Galactus's metal is non magnetizable made of cosmic atoms that protect him from Magnetos effects or something, fair, but Magneto has at one point used his powers to control a celestial, yet more often than not, if a celestial comes to earth knocking, Magneto is not putting a dent on them, or making them even flinch a finger, so yeah, depending on how powerful, what type of power, the gap in power, how smart, and how many abilities and resistances the character has, they could be made of metal inside and out, head to toe, and Magneto would still lose to them, or win in a massive struggle

I have somewhat similar issues with compositing all versions of Link together for a fight but for me, I feel that limits matchups you could give Link since each Link has their own story that could be thematic with another character whereas just merging them all together just gives you a hero who reincarnates all the time. Two matchups I can think of for an individual Link are Hero of the Wilds Link vs Aang and Hero of Time Link vs Kid Goku (a match Biff suggested in his Smash video which I slowly started to like). With each iteration of Link by themselves, they have connections with their opponents (Aang and Wilds Link are young heroes caught in a cycle of reincarnation who were sealed away for 100 years before finally awakening, traveling around their worlds and finally achieving their destiny of bringing peace to the world/HoT Link and Kid Goku are younger versions of iconic heroes who lost their parents in a tragic battle and sent to a new world filled with people far different from them, unaware of their true origins and species, even becoming engaged to a princess by accident) but if you just composite every Link together then Link is just a reincarnating hero, that's about it since by compositing him, each iteration is just one incarnation among an endless cycle and don't matter so his only matchups at this point would be video game characters he's similar too or would rival like Cloud or you could put him up against The Dragon Born because both are open world sand box characters now but that just sounds boring to me. I like my ideas better, where the story of each individual Link is considered, not just that he is a video game character with a bunch of different versions. I like the idea of Kid Goku vs Hero of Time because Like the idea of the Kid Goku with his Power Pole and Nimbus fighting Link with his sword and shield, I like the idea of Fierce Diety Link or Giant Mask Link vs Great Ape Goku but if you just composited Link then not only would there not be connections anymore but now most of The Hero of Time's arsenal would be irrelavent next to the better stuff a Link gets in other games. This is why I like Wally West vs Archie Sonic, they chose a SPECIFIC version of Sonic and his story instead of just EVERY Sonic like they did for the first Mario and Sonic, means that characters with multiple different versions could have those various versions get their own fights which would make them unique since they would have their own stories, personalities and abilities separate from other versions.

Yeah, when you make composite versions you have the risk of just turning the character boring, I love Link vs Cloud 2, but I can't remember a single thing about Link's analysis, since they're talking about a reincarnating soul and not a character
Now that you mention aang, its like making a DB with him, but instead of talking about Aang and his journey, history, personality and relationships, they just talk about the avatar himself, how his soul is destined to reincarnate in a new flesh and bring balance to the world, then they spend the rest of the analysis talking about abilities and powers and end it by saying "The world shall never fear when the avatar is around". Its just halfbaked when there's no info about the journey or who the character is and instead its boiled down to three sentences about the concept of the composite and the rest is just the "Abilities and powers" section straight up from the wiki page

As a dragon ball fan I also hate this match-up. Freiza really doesn't have to much to say about him. He took over the empire from his father, and has been stated time and time again to be unreformably evil. The entire reason he hates goku so much is because up til his fight with goku, no one had ever given him such a challenge, let alone gotten him horrifically mangled like he was, and he despises him for embarrassing and mocking him on namek, showing that freiza holds long grudges. Freiza is nothing like Megatron, and I know that with my limited transformers stuff.

Hmm, while I don’t mind this match up ever happening, I can definitely see why you dislike Frieza vs Megatron. It’s good to hear how the connections here don’t make sense, especially from someone that is a massive transformers fan. And I do like the different match ups you’ve suggested as they seem to work much better. That’s usually what I like when seeing vs match ups or death battles, I want to connections to be strong. Like it makes a lot of sense and it works thematically. That and it’s nice to see that is a better match up for Frieza since his other match ups suck. Same with G1 Megatron. And it is nice that you acknowledge other versions of transformers to be used in death battle or other debates since using other versions of character be just as good to use and fun to debate on. Especially when writing or doing a video on said match up. I appreciate this video and giving a more in-depth reason on why this match up doesn’t exactly work and suggesting more better ones.

But I was thinking about another character Ridley could face in the place if Boros or Vilgax. What if the matchup was Meta Ridley vs.... Predaking from Transformers prime. As both are terrifying mechanical space dragons whose mere presence instills fear into others.

As someone who's transformers knowledge spans Transformers Animated, about a season of Transformers Prime, two of the Michael Bay movies and a couple random toys I had as a kid, it's interesting looking in on something that's apparently way bigger and more complex than I would have ever assumed. Also, while the connections definitely aren't there, I think the fight would make for a pretty interesting dynamic between the two. Something like the Frieza Force invading Cybertron and during the fight Megatron is trying to keep destruction to a minimum and protect as many Cybertronians as he can, while Frieza is indiscriminately destroying everything, killing Decepticons and his own men alike. It would of course lead to a finale where Frieza gets so fed up with actually having to put effort into a fight against someone who isn't Goku that he just blows the whole planet to hell without getting what he came for, leaving Megatron enraged and even more ruthless than he was before, filled with righteous fury. The ending either leaves the Cybertronian race extinct or Megatron the last of his kind
I honestly didn't really know enough about the two to realize this, I just kinda liked the "David vs. Goliath" aspect. But you bring up a lot of good points, and anyone who acknowledges _Cybertron_ is a really awesome person in my book.

Honestly pretty cool you used Cybertron Megatron as an example, it is kind of true most continuities that aren't connected to G1 get ignored in VS battels. Though if you are more interested in the dynamic than the battle I doubt death battle would ever cherry pick specifically Cybertron Megatron.
Finally got done with the video and enjoyed it. As one of the G1's who helped make the blog for this fight, which I hope you read because I thought it was great, I wanted to share my thoughts on the matchup itself.
I do respect and understand your view on why the ideal matchup leaves a sour taste in your mouth with great points, however, me being a part of the blog and researching from both sides truly made the G1 version a blast and thought that the connections to fictions greatest villains made sense. I never thought of the match itself until the others were suggesting the matchup for the Community Death Battle to where I thought it was amazing to see, that kinda shows how a lot of people want to see this fight at their max. I do understand that finding an official Megatron was pain and lots of factors can be stated for Cybertron is better, which I also liked from your view, but Megatron's G1 just had more version based on the classic that made it more cannon for that. And, the fight blog was very close which the verdicts were 50/50, which was worth choosing as the number 1 choose matchup for the summer break.
Overall, I liked your episode and truly respected your view on the matchup. I hope you like this comment and hope to talk more in the future. Keep it up with the good work, and stay awesome.

Given the scope of the Optimus vs Amuro's Gundam, finding other match ups involving other Transformers and mostly mecha's are hard to analyze these days & may result in a mismatch due to powerscaling and are not really realistically demanding (unless if your a mecha fan savy like....that guy who comments on Death Battles before insulting your favorite characters and analyze that for you) and some of them are really not very familiar by the Death Battle community itself.

The closest thing we could potentially get is a Transformers Goon against a Gundam Federation Goon (Zakus, GMs, etc) but I don't see anyone suggesting this.

The best Megatron for Frieza to fight is GalaxyForce/Cybertron Megatron, this Megatron has the most in common with Frieza especially if you look at Galaxyforce Megatron the fight between those 2 would feel like it would have allot chemistry in fighting term.

I don't know Transformers but I do know Frieza. Honestly I am glad you took the time to fully break it down why you don't like it. From my point of view, it made a lot of sense. Sadly some requests are more likely to happen that aren't good matches or technically are good fights but less on the connection aspect.

Ill take just about any Megatron in db at this point, hes one of my favorite characters in fiction especially G1, Beast Wars, and IDW. You have my sympathy NB, my favorite show of Transformers is Transformers Prime. While it might seem like a combination of the Michal Bae movies and G1, it actually does a lot of things different from both. Some good examples would be Wheeljack (Prime Wheeljack would have more in common with G1 Sideswipe than G1 Wheeljack), Starscream (because unlike G1, his attempts to usurp Megatron have lasting consequences and there are points in the show where he is allowed to be threatening), and Ultra Magnus (he actually has traits that distinguish him from Optimus Prime as opposed to G1 where they feel like the same character). My favorite example would be Arcee, in G1 she doesn't have much of a personality beyond her love for Hot Rod and Springer or her motherly instincts to protect Daniel. In Prime, she is still dealing with the loss of her partners Tailgate and later Cliffjumper, her friendship with Jack helps her open up again.
Prime series was fun to watch up to the end of beast hunters, we don't talk about what happened after the end of that season

I figured being two famous characters with great physical strength, varied energy attacks, fly under their own power, can survive in space, and have armies... was enough to make them an interesting match up personally. Obviously a thematic match up would make it better, but that's enough to be interested in analyzing how their energy sources differ, their compared strengths, their compared defenses, etc.
So for most your vid I was going, "I know all this, I agree, but it can still be a good match up to compare their power sets to a depth I haven't bothered."

With the concept of Cybertron Megatron VS Frieza, that made me have an idea for one scene in the fight:
Basically, both of them realize that their enemy is a lot stronger than anticipated, so they both have the idea of sacrificing their entire armies just to see the main enemy die or at least be severely damaged. So of course...they heartlessly obliterate the entirety of their armies involved in the fight. The music and atmosphere sort of have this moment of silence to show just how utterly fucked up these two are for doing this as well as the scale of the destruction. Then the camera pans back to a now destroyed battlefield with Frieza and Megatron still standing, ready for (presumably) the last part of the fight.

My preferred Frieza fight that I did request on the official form is Nero Cladius from the Fate/Extra series vs. Frieza basically a battle between two extremely powerful, and cocky/egotistical emperors. Although technically Nero no longer has that massive diva-esque ego thanks to her time with her master Hakuno and now has a more flirty, playful type cockiness ala Bayonetta, where as Frieza yeah he has an ego on par with Gilgamesh's ego, and both are on the low-to-mid multiversal level of power as with Nero we do have canon evidence of her being on this level of power as in the Extra: CCC route she was able to in her base form tank attacks from BB and later defeat BB and BB was a being in the low-to-mid multiversal level of power along with having low-level reality warping via her Noble Phantasm the Austeus Domus Areous, where as Frieza is argued to be in the low-to-mid multiversal level of power due to fighting in the Tournament of Power. And this is a lot fairer then the match-up most suggested for the lead heroine of the Fate/Extra franchise that being Nero Cladius vs. Azula from Last Airbender which is a curbstomp in Nero's favor so bad it's not funny. At least Frieza stands some chance of winning granted he'd have to get 4 kill-shots to get the DB win due to Nero's Thrice-Setting Sun skill.

@@quilavalover8232 Golden Frieza was shown to be constantly on the same level as Blue Goku & Blue Vegeta but that was before the Broly movie. Frieza was on par with the two saiyans but in the movie, Blue Goku put up more of a fight against Broly then Frieza did. He just got his ass beaten for a hour straight which is an impressive durability feat, the whole scene was hilarious

You know, the way Nemesis described Megatron vs Freeza and Vilgax vs Ridley (matchup for only the one of the two characters) is similar to how I describe Godzilla vs Eva Unit-01, a matchup that exists only for Eva Unit-01. If you want a matchup for Eva Unit-01, I recommend Eva Unit-01 vs Kiryu, Eva Unit-01 vs Founding Titan (a.k.a. Shinji vs Eren Yeager) and Eva Unit-01 vs Gipsy Danger.
Its also how I describe Bill Cipher Vs SMG0, which is a matchup that exists only for SMG0. Bill Cipher can fight Shuma Gorath, and SMG0 can fight Mephiles The Dark.

You're right that it's unfair to take traits of multiple versions of a specific character and pass them off as all traits of one specific character. You're also right that Unicron Trilogy Megatron works better with Frieza in terms of connections than G1 Megatron. Regarding the possible matchups for Frieza, the best options that come to my mind are Lex Luthor and Shao Kahn, but I have a doubt that Ben and Chad want to reuse either of them a third time, moreover Shao Kahn is not very appreciated by the Death Battle fanbase. Also, I'm very sure Shao Kahn dies in a very, very few seconds against Golden Frieza. As for Megatron, I have matchups in mind for a few versions of him 👇

Here's a pretty interesting Transformers vs matchup. They could do Hudiemon vs tigerhawk. They're both characters that fuse to become one person by the end of both series. It'd be pretty interesting too because despite being champion level, I'm pretty sure hudiemon is actually pretty strong for one, probably could be around ultimate, or maybe arguably mega level, although tigerhawk you could argue matches up to the power level of both megatron's and can control the weather and earth's continental plates with ease. It'd also be an episode where I'd be incredibly hard pressed to find a character to route for, because despite being a humongous beast wars fanboy, and I like both tigatron and airazor as characters, and despite not really liking wormmon in hacker's memory in comparison, I really do like Erika as a character and would get pretty upset if she did die.

My main issue with it is that it also ignores Megatron's power up forms (Galvatron and Super Megatron). While some may argue "He HaS tO hAvE sOmEoNe TuRn HiM iNtO tHoSe", there's various versions of G1 Megatron, and Megatron in general (especially Unicron Trilogy Megatron) who've either unlocked those, or similar, forms, or just got stronger, just from absorbing energy. Not to mention, Megatron will ALWAYS find a way to come back stronger. Something that makes the Death Battle redundant other than to show just how ridiculously OP Dragon Ball characters are. 😂
Personally I always wanted to see a Death Battle between Megatron and Makuta (Teridax) from Bionicle. Two large mechanical main villains from beloved toylines.
If anything, G1 Megatron has more in common with General Zod than he does with Frieza. Both Megatron and Zod are dark colored galactic warlords who are primarily interested in the preservation of their failing planets, often zeroing in on Earth to accomplish that. Zod and the more nuanced versions of Megatron start a revolt to get rid of what they saw as a problem with the current system, the main difference being that Megatron only started the more violent revolt after the higher Cybertronian powers screwed over his peaceful revolutionary attempts, while from my knowledge Zod woke up and chose violence immediately. And they both regularly throw down with red and blue heroes.
Still probably not the best matchup in the world (mainly due to Zod having similar strengths and weaknesses as Superman), but I still think it works better than Frieza vs Megatron.
This battle is a stomp or a close match depending on what G1 Megatron we choose since a composite one easily oblirates Zod to non-existence via anti matter manipulation

To be honest this is probably my least favorite thing about Death Battle: since they use composite characters, not only does it overpower many of them but also means that alternate versions people love and are just as famous are ignored and very rarely used.

I agree. I always thought that Cybertron Megatron is a much better matchup. But I have to disagree on Megatrons motivations in the G1 cartoon. He didnt just collect energy to fuel Cybertron. Optimus and the Autobots wouldnt have a problem with that. Megatron expressed often in the cartoon his ambition to collect also energy to fuel his warmashine for galactic conquest and thats why Optimus desperately tryed to stop him from acquiring energy.
In my opinion, I think the fight does have five "good" connections:
1. Both are iconic villains in their regions (classic west versus east fights they like to do, similar to OPM vs Popeye.)
2. Both have different forms (Galvatron and Golden Frieza.)
3. Both killed or injured close allies to the main protagonists.
4. Both came close to killing their rivals (Optimus Prime and Goku.)
5. Emphasis on being a galactic threats that threaten significant planets that are related to the protagonists.
The fight definitely feels like a similar previous DB episode, Beerus Vs Galaxia, in the case that one wanted to conquer, while the other wanted to destroy. This was just a way of showing a better connections that does have some support from their own universe, I respect your opinion and this was my take.

Ok so I can definitely understand Frieza VS Cybertron Megatron, but I think I just found one of the best and unknown MUs for Frieza, that I have to thank a guy on UA-cam called Ed Padilla for, Frieza VS Pyron (Dragon Ball VS Darkstalkers). Here are the connections:

16) And finally have had their series appear on DEATH BATTLE before (Darkstalkers less so but come on guys, WE NEED MORE DARKSTALKER MUS!).

In my opinion, Grovyle from Mystery Dungeon is the most ideal matchup for Lucina. Sure, there are other time traveling characters like Chrono and Stocke, but the circumstances behind Grovyle's time traveling matches Lucina's more.

@@JanAside It might be because of the unorthodox nature behind the matchup. After all, nobody ever really thinks of Pokémon vs Fire Emblem could have any conceivable matchups. But that's honestly what makes the matchup so much fun. It's a princess against a fucking Pokémon. That's hilarious and badass at the same damn time. Plus, there's so much creative potential if one incorporates Grovyle's entire movepool, especially since MD Grovyle has a few moves that his species doesn't learn via level up.
While we're on the subject of matchups for FE Awakening characters, I personally feel like Chrom and Robin's best thematic matchups are Leonhardt from Record of Agarest War and Alto from Stella Glow respectively.
@@esteban8471 i don't really fire emblem so I can't speak for the other two. but i agree with your points it pisses me off when people say that kitana makes more sense than lucina when in reality it has no animation potential, terrible connections and no debatability. It would literally be a injustice to both as neither would really get a chance to utilise their abilities to the maximum

Honestly, I know the connections for G1 Megatron and Frieza go about as deep as a bowl of soup, but that's ironically what makes the fight so interesting (for me, at least). Allow me to explain. Something that I noticed in your video is that the similarities need to be nearly one-to-one to work when in actuality would do two things:
1. Provide a reason for why the fight would happen. You said it yourself, Frieza destroys because he can, and Megatron fights for the glory of Cybertron. What better way to start the fight than with Frieza attacking Cybertron simply for the fun of it? And Megatron would be compelled to defend his home, just like in Apocolypse vs. Black Adam.
2. It provides the opportunity to show their differences through how they interact with each other (see the reason above)
Maybe this is a controversial or poorly thought-out take, but it's one that I simply find interesting. It's like in Joker vs. Sweet Tooth, their connections are only that they are mass murdering clowns but they do it in very different ways and bounce off each other very well. I hope I explained this well enough

They probably just use G1 Megatron because he's the most recognizable. Even a lot of people who know next to nothing about transformers can look at that design and know who he is.
Yeah, that's the excuse they gave for primarily using 10 year old Ben for his Death Battle even when looking at the whole series. Ten year old Ben and his alien roster is more recognizable so besides Alien X, they're not going to show Feedback or Chromostone or aliens that are far stronger than his original roster, they're going to show XLR8, Four Arms and Way Big because that is what is more recognizable...even though that isn't his strongest aliens and that's not what he looks like now. No wonder people think they only used his ten year old version, that's practically all they showed besides Alien X.
@@MysteriousTomJenkins Alien X was really the only one that matter in the long run for the outcome (whether you agree with it or not) of the match up anyway considering they compare combatants at their absolute best and his abilities are leagues above any of the other aliens Ben could have used. But it would feel wrong to not mention them or feature them in the animation at all.
Edit: They did a similar thing in voltron vs power rangers where they used the og megazord for the fight but said in the conclusion the upgraded version would also probably lose to Voltron.

Death Battle really does need to stop doing composite and just use specific versions alot of their battles suffer from doing this especially when they're using character with multiple incarnations across different media
Megatron is more like Garou(anti hero like) than Frieza(completely villainous but MAY change in the future, albeit very unlikely).

Beerus gave Frieza the go-ahead, but Frieza still always intended on doing that himself for his motivation of ensuring a Super Saiyan never happened. Broly basically hard-confirmed that.

@@Gusername I think his motivation for doing the shit he does is pure cash money, plus sadism but cash money is the main motive. He supposedly sells planets he conquers to the highest bidder. Which honestly makes little sense for an empire to do, unless it was like making people lords whilst still being beholden to the emperor which is weird but whatever, which I guess is a connection to how megatron harvests them for energy whilst freeza harvests them for cash money. Tenuous connection and pretty much at best stretch but it's more than just being a sadist. Also I think this motivation was stated in an interview and not in the manga/anime, because toriyama wanted to make the connection to real estate agents clear.

Does this matchup exist because our ape brains like color combinations and despite not having any purple on his body Megatron generally depicted with purple around him (energon is usually what that is)
If you use idw megatron vs frieza, megatron easily matches frieza in every category expect speed frieza easily blitz megatron and megatron can oneshot frieza if he can land a blow.... My bad i confused idw comics megatron with alternity megaton whose speed is immeasurable and can fight hytherion who can consume damaged timelines. And that's only his avatar megatron's true form is way stronger

@@timmofrmparkway he took a force field generator from the autobot trailblazer corpse once powered by antimatter (which megatron can summon with his eyes) the force field was partially harmed by a blast that could destroy half a planet. Created a shockwave throughout a entire city.
