Glad you enjoyed! I'm addicted to Jolly Rancher Watermelon jello after being told about it by someone in the comments of my watermelon cake video. LOVE the stuff!
OMG FINALLY!!! Someone who actually scrapes all of it out of the bowl it makes me mad when all the other recipe channels leaves all that goodness in the bowl i thought i was the crazy one!!
Here in the US, our Jello is pre-sweetened with the sugar already in it. I'm not sure what kind of Jello you have in Germany but you should use pre-sweetened if you can find it. It certainly won't be as sweet as what we have in the US but it should be sufficient for this.
It does it on it's own. If it's staying mixed, it's because the marshmallows got too hot. You only need to barely heat them to get them to dissolve and only after dissolving the gelatin.
Cutting with a plastic knife dipped in water and mostly wiped off worked really well for me when I cut them. Strawberry was delicious :) Thanks for the great recipe my daughter was amazed at the separation :)
No need to zap the marshmallows. For the chocolate, zap a couple tablespoons of cream or half and half for 30 seconds or so until it's hot and stir in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips until they're melted. You can use semi-sweet although if you have dark, that would be delightful! I think it would be easiest if you just put a toothpick into the marshmallow and dip that and just place it on the nilla wafer. If you're feeling it, you could dip the nilla wafer too but not really necessary.
Yes, using vodka. Using only 2 Tbsp of vodka (25% alcohol) they were soft but still held their shape. Barely. Trying to roll them was a nightmare. The marshmallows don't react with the alcohol, it's the gelatin that you have to watch out for. Jello shots is one thing since you have a container to keep them in, these you don't so you need to retain nearly all of the gelling properties of the gelatin. Go ahead and try it for yourself using your own guestimeasurements and get yourself a spoon.
I decided to try to follow these directions using sugar free jello and marshmallow fluff and it came out great. It doesnt stick as well but still rolled up fairly easily. I just did this three times. Even though the sugar free jello has less in it I still followed the same directions as on here. Heating up the marshmallow fluff does make it dissolve into the jello. The only other difference was that even though you do end up with the two layers seperated, the jello is cloudier. tastes great.
Put some of the marshmallow on a Nilla wafer and then cover it in melted chocolate for a homemade peppermint sorta-Mallomar. Those would be worth giving a shot!
I'm about 70 years past being a kid but these pinwheels look delish and you can bet that I'm going to give them a whirl - so to speak. I'm sure my grandkid will like them and maybe my kids.
I don't know. You'll have to put everything into a pan on the stove and whisk while it's coming up to heat until the marshmallows start to dissolve and then take it off heat and go from there. How long exactly is anyone's guess.
i did it with green apple jolly rancher jello and because there was only one cup of water in it the flavor was SO strong,it was one of the best deserts i have ever tasted
For the recipe although since you call it jelly you probably aren't in the US so not sure how it will work out for the gelatin you have access to. Just make sure the gelatin is dissolved and then plop in the marshmallows and then microwave to soften them enough to melt into the gelatin. Just adding them to the hot gelatin is not enough to melt them all the way.
More than anything, it's the orange flavor with the vanilla in the marshmallows that contributes to the baby aspirin taste. The first batch was made with Jell-O brand and it tasted the same. And yeah, you can make and store these in any container you wish.
I never record the first time I make something. And I happened to have the orange Jello so I used it. Besides, my roommate loves these so I made them again. Should have done them in strawberry or lime. :-)
I DO remember 1-2-3 Jell-O! There are copycat recipes online using jello and cool-whip but many say it only separates into 2 layers. Might have to try it out using dream-whip and see if I can get it to separate into 3 layers....
I can't believe how some people take something useful for kids entertainment like this,to criticize it and try to get there's stupid useless toad to bother someone who's actually doing something useful. I like it and will do it with my stepkids and thank's to this guy my babys will have something else to remember and who knows if in the future this will become something that will brings theme some good memorys.
Thanks for sharing. This is good idea for Christmas and need to make with different flavor like red, green, and yellow to make it colorful Jello-O Pinwheels.
I just made these, but with a slight twist. I used a 9x13 pan, and made two layers. Did the first layer in Cherry Lemonade, let it set, then did another layer of Lemon on top. Multicolored pinwheels!
I'm not sure how you would do a rainbow one as it has to be liquid for this to work. The colors would all blend together. As for the Jello, it's just regular Jello.
This recipe is really good. One tip is, it doesn't desperate like magic, the densities with the jell-o and marshmallow s force the two compounds to separate.
your tip is "desperate", his two compounds separate. You really think any sort of cook doesn't know different liquids that separate by themselves cuz of their densities and his "magic" comment was a joke ?... dumb.
You can but let me warn you that when you get half way through a cut, you can't cut any further nor can you take your knife out of the cut. The jell-o is stuck to your knife so you try to peel it off and then you've got tiny pieces of jello and marshmallow sticking to your hands, the knife, the counter, in your hair, everything. Trust me and use thread, string or monofilament. Or live adventurously and use a knife.
I tried out of curiosity and the pinwheels stuck to the knife as the Jello is quite sticky. They then unrolled and tore as I tried to get them off. Also, the cuts were not nice at all. Best to use monofilament or thread.
OMGosh! When I first saw the pic of the Pinwheels, I thought to myself "this is going to be a fiddly recipe" but it's so easy! Another beauty for the summer (which it is down here in Sydney! Thanks so much!!
I did these in green and blue. Go Hawks! (Seattle Seahawks) Very easy, pretty quick set time. I liked the lime, LOVED the berry blue! Thanks for the recipe and video!
You can substitute up to a couple tablespoons of water for vodka but any more than that and it won't set up properly. There is so little alcohol that it's not really worth the hassle.
You can but be warned that they will stick to the knife and the knife will not go all the way through without tearing the jell-o. You've got to oil both sides of the knife at every cut and then you have greasy ends on each piece as well. The fishing line is just a heck of a lot easier to use and makes much nicer cuts resulting in a nicer finished product.
I wouldn't recommend it. It would have to be such a teeny amount of vodka as it affects the setup of the gelatin that it really wouldn't be worth it. If you want to try it, add in the vodka only AFTER melting the marshmallows and at most, replace 2 Tbsp of the water with vodka. Any more than that and the gelatin won't be firm enough to roll or hold it's shape.
Part of the problem is I hate marshmallows so I'm biased. My roommate LOVES the baby aspirin taste. I'm sure it would be much better with strawberry or lime Jello.
If you read the description, you would see the recipe called for one and a half cups. If you were watching the video, there is even an annotation stating that it was one and a half cups and that I misspoke. Forgive me for not being perfect.
Concerning the alcohol and since everyone seems to NEED alcohol in these, it's already been tried and using any more than 2 Tbsp of alcohol and the gelatin won't set up firm enough to roll these and retain their shape. Even eating the entire batch, you still wouldn't have one shots worth of alcohol so what's the point?
I've never been much of a "Jello" fan but for summer it's a treat for a lot of ppl. Even for myself I actual enjoyed this recipe using a raspberry jello. Thank u so very much for uploading this recipe. It was a very tasty... not to mention atractive hit for the croud of ppl I served it to. Well done :-) ~Shine~ from WA State :-)
oh god, the sound when you stirred the jello mix in the glass bowl with the metal whisk was just horrible, especially with earplugs.. anyyyways, I will definitely try this sometime, they look super adorable!
I make this with the Jolly Rancher Watermelon jello and it is FANTASTIC!!!
Glad you enjoyed! I'm addicted to Jolly Rancher Watermelon jello after being told about it by someone in the comments of my watermelon cake video. LOVE the stuff!
I'm glad someone else remembers that taste! It's not disgusting but it's not exactly something I want a dessert to taste like.
OMG FINALLY!!! Someone who actually scrapes all of it out of the bowl it makes me mad when all the other recipe channels leaves all that goodness in the bowl i thought i was the crazy one!!

This is GENIUS! My daughter would love making these!
Baby aspirin are delicious! LOL
To dissolve the Jello, yes. However thee is not enough residual heat in that to melt the marshmallows which is why you need to leave it on heat.
It does it on it's own. If it's staying mixed, it's because the marshmallows got too hot. You only need to barely heat them to get them to dissolve and only after dissolving the gelatin.

You're very welcome. I would try the 'instant' Jello first and see how that turns out before trying the regular Jello. Hope all goes well!
Yep. You can even use regular sewing thread if that's all you have. Just don't try to cut it with a knife because it'll end up a torn mess.
You're very welcome! I hope they turn out well for you!
Yes, using vodka. Using only 2 Tbsp of vodka (25% alcohol) they were soft but still held their shape. Barely. Trying to roll them was a nightmare. These are definitely a kids favorite!

Kids definitely go bonkers over these!

Monofilament fishing line is what I used. You can use nylon or even just regular sewing thread.
Why not use a knife
More than anything, it's the orange flavor with the vanilla in the marshmallows that contributes to the baby aspirin taste. The first batch was made with Jell-O brand and it tasted the same. And yeah, you can make and store these in any container you wish.
I have to admit i would have never have thought of using mono-filament to cut rolls or pinwheels that's really cool
Iliana would love these!! They do kinda feel like Flubber but they're kinda sticky, LOL!!
I think I would like lime a lot better than the orange too. They're cheap and easy enough to make so I had to give em a try!
I never record the first time I make something. And I happened to have the orange Jello so I used it. Besides, my roommate loves these so I made them again. Should have done them in strawberry or lime. :-)
You can replace up to half of the water with alcohol if desired. No more than half of the liquid volume or else it won't set up right.
I was so excited to stumble across this!!Making it now and using blurb raspberry jolly rancher jello!
Glad you enjoyed!
The 3oz packages here are 85g which uses a total of 475ml water (half boiling and half cold). So you can use Dr Oetker just fine I would think.
Strawberry is definitely better than orange, that's for sure! Glad you enjoyed!
Cool! My kids love jello, this will no doubt be a new fav for them.
They look much more complicated than they are. Wishing it were summer here in the states! LOL!!
I DO remember 1-2-3 Jell-O! There are copycat recipes online using jello and cool-whip but many say it only separates into 2 layers. Might have to try it out using dream-whip and see if I can get it to separate into 3 layers....

Looks great, I made these tonight with grape jello and turned out perfect.
Because they like to stick to the knife and when you try and peel them off they tear and it just ends up a mess.
Sure did!

You can although when I tried it, the jello liked to stick to the knife and it was difficult to cut without tearing it.
Yep.
You're very welcome.
I just tried it it's in the fridge right now thanks for the great idea I hope my kids will love it :)
FINALLY!!!!!! Some one else that scrapes the bowl to get all of the product/ingredient out!!!
I also liked mosogourmet video but congratulations because I think that yours is explained in a better way so thanks for making this video!
this is so gorgeous, it very incredible and easy to make, thank you for you sharing, I will try to make it for my child
Auguste Escoffier would have LOVED this !
Too much fun and a neatly done vid (and you have such a professional voice, sir !)
Glad you enjoyed! Strawberry is definitely better than the orange for sure.

It's like five in the morning and I'm watching Jell-O pinwheels.. I think it's time for bed now..

These are adorable ! Great kids treats for a party. Thanks for sharing .
I love how you clean out the glass bowl!!
I've made this with many other flavors and it's so easy and so good. Ahh such a wonderful snack lol
Eeeek!! Strawberry I love but hate marshmallows and coconut. LOL!!
Great job !
My kids love this clip so they made it in Thai version.
Thanks for good clip.
Made the jelly mallows. Was fun and it worked.
They look really good and cool.

thanks for all of the great ideas! Using a toothpick for dipping is genius! I'll let you know how they turn out. Have a great Sunday, too :)
