- In Kenya, about 200,000 new bikes hit the road every year, nearly all run on petrol, but that could be about to change.
Al Jazeera’s Malcolm Webb reports from the town of Homa Bay, where a recently developed electric motorbike is creating a buzz.

Kenyan companies should start manufacturing these bikes for overseas markets.
That is our goal! We are working day by day to export to the world.
@@roamelectric Really wish I could make my contributions.
China
The Kenya market is quite big ... Should keep them busy for afew years ... But only if they have payment plans, because no one has cash cash to pay upfront for these.
Wow Viva Kenya electric!
Viva Kenya 🇰🇪
Good for Kenyan! Sunshine all year long, what a good way to utilize it.
Yes indeed, we couldn't agree more.
They should make the battery to be multifunctional ... Have a charging kit that can be installed in a rural home or a small house that can then use the battery for lighting and television/ music/ phone charging et c.
This would make the cost to be totally worth it. Because a good domestic battery power system is already like 100K shillings expense (over $900)
Then there should be a way to charge the battery with regular solar panels ... without having to pass through an inverter to make 240V AC ... Meaning one battery can be left at home charging to be used the following day ... Making cost of "fuel" to be literally zero ... Considering how cheap solar panels have become.
good job Kenya!
Yes yes yes!
Guy with the coffin on his bike is in-sane!! So is the torque on an electric motorcycle. The more electric bikes there are, the better the tech will get. I'm looking forward to it. :D
Haha, indeed, insane. Yes electric will for sure be the future, at least what we are hoping for!
No one talking about Mr coffin that carry any kind of cargo 💀
Wow congratulations to everyone love you all my beautifully country
Yes Kenya is one stunning country.
Promotion at it's best hope it is genuine 🙏
Yes, we are trying to be as genuine and authentic as possible. Thanks!
🇰🇪💯
🚀🇰🇪
what about range and charging
In Europe it's so hard get a driving licence and the one they use instead is 50cc and the Insurance is more expensive than the petrol and the Petrol is like 3 time higher than the rest of the World, so it end up very few use motorcykels in Europa!
idiocrazy at work!
Yes that is unfortunate. This is why we want to build motorcycles locally in Kenya!
Aljazeera should get a local narrater. This guy is a British
They should indeed 🇰🇪
How much is it?
How does Alternet Systems Inc ($ALYI) factor into this? If at all. Thx!
Continue enjoying the ride
🙌
How much?
To get an opibus electric motorcycle you place an order and wait upto a year to get it.
The mileage is good if they are as good as they say most people will definitely get them, time will tell
Anything to clean environment, I welcome.
Seeing how fast an electric scooter can go in comparison, defeats the objective.. i think more importantly is range, & can they charge on a home electricity outlet? Then theres the battery performance after years of use, because the cost of replacing a battery pack would be out of the range of most peoples budget. Even if the drive motor goes out, its probably an entire unit replacement, which i believe wont be cheap or easy to find in years to come
I don't know the numbers (distance and cost) and I'm sure you don't either so we can't draw a conclusion that easily. But the point is if more people use ebikes, the cheaper the cost to produce including the parts. I'm sure the first fuel cars and motorcycles were very expensive when they were first introduced. Another point is they are trying to make every part locally which not only makes it cheaper but provides jobs to many.
Economies of scale will kick in with mass adoption for any product and with local engineering and production this could become a powerful export for Kenya.
We work with the best possible suppliers to make sure we have cheap and quality parts. Right now we have a range of 160km on our next generation motorcycle and it can be charged in a home outlet. ;-)
@@roamelectric QSMOTOR I guess? They are one of the best or prolly the best
Niko yangu kama hii tu I made it for myself captain 150cc ya timing chain
Toppen!
i was watching the grand tour where a tvs motorbike just broken in pieces. i was shocked. tvs make nice bikes in india and they do last longer
As a gentleman mentioned in the video they don't use original spare parts , they tend to be expensive..may be that explains the difference in quality.
Yeah, its a real shame some of the imported motorcycles, we are hoping to change this with ours. 🙌
What's the name of the company and how do I invest in its stonk? I want to ride it to the moooooon. 🙌🏾💎🚀🚀🚀🌚
NOT $ALYI that one is a scam. Feel free to ask me about it.
If not ALYI then what?
@@matt9519 which one would you suggest?
@@TheKeyannalee $ALYI has been scamming since 2018 no ev motorcycles but claims orders since then - nothing!
Aljazeera should get a local narrater. This guy is a British. He portrays Africa as poor. Then the Swedish company should be banned. That is something we can do easily
Sorry, to hear this, we cant do anything about the narrator but we are glad to say our company is founded and situated in Nairobi, with over 70 local employees.
This is not news Hhhhhhh this is advertisment
❤️❤️❤️👏👏🙏
🙌
Homabay
If you know, you know 🙌
Sorry Tesla the Chinese were quicker than you lol
I thought they were Swedish
@@Dotcando They might be a Swedish company that designed the bike, but have the bikes manufactured as Complete Knockdown Kits and then have them assembled in Kenya.
We take pride in having designed, developed and manufactured our motorcycle in Kenya. This is very different from many other producers. We do however indeed get some parts from China.
Wakandan Kangz!
EV has a problem of recharging batteries.
and the toxic waste
Save Our Planet
Couldnt agree more!
