So, I decided to round the babes up and go out for a ride on the Maeving RM1s.
These bikes LOOK so gorgeous and classy and elegant but when I heard there max speed was 45mph...
I thought... eeeek.
It's gonna be a slow day but let's give it a go.
When you get your head round what kind of bike it is and what it's purpose is (city, town commutes, nipping to pub/restaurant/ corner shop for supplies, other short journeys - maybe to nip and see a relative or friend in the next town) you release that it is a cracking piece of kit for what it is designed for!

I absolutely love these. They capture the essence of motorcycles of 100 years ago - imagine if the folk back then could see these! It was also good to see how much interest they got.

Been riding ice bikes for 50 years and I think these electric bikes are brilliant 😊👍👍 , people will say they can’t hear them when they cross the road , but there’s quite a few electric vehicles where I live , and I always look when I cross the road . Yeah, I don't buy that "It's too quiet, that it's dangerous" crap. Ride right, and you will be as safe as we can get on our bikes. Getting in the bathtub is also a risk.
The style really is nice.

They’re gonna sell a lot of those I reckon with such sweet styling and good practicality! I think the top end electric bikes are a harder sell with such high price tags, and still too short battery range.

I've never ridden a motorbike or scooter, and am not sure how I'd feel about giving out a go. But I really like this bike, and would love to get one one day. Would be perfect for my short commute and would be great fun. Maybe one day!

Great vid Kate...saw these back in May at the Bike Shed show and was intrigued. Nice thought out design and good price point I thought.
The guys showing and talking about them at the stand were really nice and enthusiastic about their product and it was nice to see them being used on your vid.

The interchangeable batteries is a great idea.
Maybe eventually there will be a battery standard across all makes which you swap say at a petrol station and off you go.
For me if it could do 60 or 70 mph I would be more interested...might do a test ride at some point.

I think it is a lovely-looking bike. for 10-15 mile commutes. My concern is range, 80 miles with 2 batteries will be the BEST case. Here is a quote from a guy who has put over 1k miles on one. I think the new RM1S with a top speed of 65mph becomes good for a Sunday bimble, but the range won't be good enough.
" This bike is electric, charged from ordinary household 3-pin sockets and goes from 20% charge to 100% in around 2 and a half hours, giving me a range (in the countryside) of around 40 miles. The range increases in towns and on flat roads and Maeving claims 80 miles, which I think is possible. Riding carefully I've had 60 miles with 15% battery remaining."

When I was 17 many years ago, I got stopped in Brighton by a cop on a motorcycle for doing 46mph in a 30 on a 15 speed Rayleigh racing bike with cow horn bars, , But I was riding it 24 miles every day to get to work, legs like a dead lifter, 😆
But did you know that you can not be prosecuted for exceeding the posted speed limit on a cycle.. Other laws might apply...
I’ll admit I wasn’t that impressed by recent launch stills shots or tempted by the odd UA-cam thumbnail but seeing them on the move makes all the difference. Tell the folks at MV your shoot was time well spent for them, I’ll deffo be looking them up at the NEC, and hopefully take one for a quick whizz! Definitely more suited to my modest needs than my current Tracer 7 which, although a great ride, I often find a bit brutal 😎

The Maeving needs a clothes peg and some cardboard in the back wheel, to give it a bit of a roar😁. I think that it will be a tough sell when compared to far more practical Royal Enfield 350s at a much lower price. I spent my youth in Market Harborough and my sister still lives in Sutton Basset, so nice to see the area.

It would work for fine taking me to work. But i like my bikes , just like i like an old amerikan v8, to make nice sound. The day we no longer can drive ice vehicles will be a sad day for me. Still, these electric things have their place and i'm glad that alternative exist. The design on this one looked okay.

I've ridden one on track! Infact it was the only bike I got my knee down on 🤣 ace things!
@@UsernameKate I've never been that aggressive as I only ride on the street :) It makes my short commute in the SF Bay Area much more entertaining. And even at freeway speeds of 65 to 70MPH I was able to get 80 miles of range.

Six grand is a lot of money for an electric bike actually! You could get a pretty good car for that money, not get wet and be safer! I love bikes but I feel that is too much. £3995 and I would consider it! Great video though 😆

Sharp looking bikes and they don’t seem to have the remote control car sound others do. Do have to pull the batteries out to charge them or can your plug the bike in to charge up both batteries at the same time?

Not my kinda style but looks are subjective. My problem is the price, with most electric bikes you pay more for less. Still they do get a lot of attention without being loud and flashy.
45mph top speed, 30-40mile range per battery;
seems equivalent to Super Soco's TC 30-45mph model,
plus the TC-Max does 50-60mph too.

A bigger cousin would be even better with a optional rear tail section with add on seat or luggage attachments
Wider rims, better forks with a 60-70mph top speed
I am retired now but commuted 34 miles, 5 days a week for 25 years. In that time i tried most things. I had a BMW C1, which was years ahead of it's time but got called the pope mobile and made you out to be a laughing stock. I even made an electric time trial / touring bike with a twist grip and a heinzmann speed motor and two nickel cadmium batteries in the late 80's, which I had to swap over to get to work half way. It was very powerful and I got up to 42 mph one day, until I had to nip off the main dual carriageway because plod on the opposing carriageway realised that there is no conventional push bike in the world that can do 42 mph on the flat. I gave up on that idea after the batteries degraded after 18 months or so. Then I got a proper motorbike, a Honda CX 500, which was OK in the summer but it felt like your meat and two veg had been frozen with dry ice after a few miles in the winter. So not a winner there then.
This Maeving looks promising but it will suffer from the frozen bits scenario also. I persevered in my quest and finally found a two wheeled vehicle, that was cheap to run and you stayed warm on it. The answer was there all the time, right in front of my eyes. It was called a 'push bike '. Cheap to run, no proper fuel needed, keeps you fit and healthy, warm as well. If you are getting cold, you are not pushing hard enough. Get togged out correctly for the day and you are never cold on a push bike. There you have it. A solution for generally less than £1k for long distance commuting - magic ! But don't tell Clarkson, he may get upset and start abusing you.
I know someone will think it so I’ll ask. If you buy a single battery bike and later decide you want to double up, can you just buy their battery and pop it in? It’s not some ridiculous system where if you don’t spec it from factory then you can never have it, I assume.
You can add a second battery whenever. I believe they're £995. You can buy as many batteries as you'd like in theory :)
Not for me im afraid. Id be interested though to know what mileage you can squeeze out of one and charge times etc.
charge times are 4 hours for a full charge. And as for squeezing out the mileage, I'd have loved to but it honestly became a bloody show and tell on the square LOL
IMHO electric bikes and other vehicles will get much more range and speed as newer tech comes on stream. Geez Kate, farm livestock are always wanting to be around you; first sheep and now pigs 🤣. Just joking. Good work to all of you dodging the pigs. Top vlog.

Im not sure how this will go in los angeles where i live. You know us americans its all about the freeways. 45mph is pretty slow for us.
Top speed on freeway is 75-80mph
Side street roads is 35mph. People here in LA drive crazy

Really need a bigger rear tyre for the design, and a most powerful engine too...
You can hear the road / tires.
Easier to hear it on camera than when you have plugs in/ helmet on
Shame they didn't go with a monoshock on the rear.
All good & well owning a electric motorcycle or car(not for me) can owners afford to charge them with today's Energy prices?
Like the rear end, like the colours, don't like the front. Would have been better if the footpegs could be mounted forward as well for a more relaxed driving position, like a cruiser. You know, when you're in it for the long haul, despite the not so good looking front.

If these bikes were quicker accelerating, did 80 miles on one battery, leaving the dummy tank as a storage unit, and the price was the same as the one-battery option is priced at now, I'd be interested. But not as it stands.

I think your two mates need a bit more training. The dark haired one was travelling much too close to vehicles in front, and the other one seemed to forget that the bike has indicators. Accidents waiting to happen.
You need a clothes peg and a piece of cardboard torn from a cornflakes box hung on your back wheel. Otherwise, you'll need to sing "Born to be Wild" in town.
