Does it bug anyone else that's she says "binnorie" when in every other version it's "minnorie"? This troubles me greatly, yet I still love this version
My mom sang it and taught it to me in the 1970s as "Binoorie"... but Child Ballads usually have lots of versions. She also taught me a totally different song with the same plot called "The Lord of the North Country".
Thank you very munch for posting this. I memorized the whole thing and I think it's absolutely lovely.
Lovely recording of this!
LOVE this wonderfully tragic ballad!!!! And how it's performed by Custer LaRue.

I think it actually varies regionally? There are more than 60 traditional versions known in the U.K. and 125 in Sweden so...

This was the first version I ever heard, in 1964, at the Flick Coffee House in Coral Gables, Florida. The singer was Ron Kickasola.
"Binnorie" is the name of the tale that I read as a child. I didn't know of the "Minnorie" versions until recently.
Nice version, do you know who sang and played it?
