Today I learned about snapped bolts and Royal Enfield's tendency to over do it with the loctite. They had my bolts all gooped up with red loctite. One of 'em snapped. After some scary moments (and a few cuss words) I got the handlebars raised and positioned where I like 'em. I can finally stand up comfortably. Worth the effort.
Risers made a huge difference on mine, and made visibility in my mirrors much better. I had to re-adjust all of my switch gear but the bike fits me much better overall now.
@@OlManRonin It turned out to be a good thing. I didn't get the bike fit to me when I bought it, the handlebars were canted forward, mirrors were attached at odd angles, etc. Adding the risers and adjusting everything gave me a chance to really fit it properly (thanks to some video advice from UA-cam). I was seriously considering replacing the mirrors, but after adjusting them once the risers were installed and tightening the screws underneath the mirrors themselves so the wind and vibration wouldn't affect them, they work just fine. Looking forward to more mods, they're always neat to watch. Have you heard of CoolCovers, btw? They're a UK company and they make a mesh seat cover for the Himalayan. It helps - makes the seat more comfortable. Not comfortable, just more comfortable.
@@OlManRonin The primary benefit is ventilation. I did a 250+ mile ride Sunday - my longest yet, including some twisties! - and had no swamp-related issues. The ventilation alone makes it worth the price of admission, the slight improvement in comfort is an added bonus.
Did a 30mm riser and a higher wind screen on the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer last year and it made the bike more comfortable. Also on the Yamaha FZR 1000 Exup I did a 45mm angled riser and that's a lot better for my back. This bike has for years now a superbike handle bar and not the clip-ons any more. The wind screen and fairing has been altered as well. On four of the other FZR's there is such a superbike bar and no fairing. My sister is driving one of those.
Enjoyed the video. I don’t like do jobs, I forget we’re each part goes, I get nervous. It’s amazing how such a small part, makes such an improvement Heading to GP, renew sickline, and bloods. Guys don’t get pancreatitis. It’s horrible. Stay positive.
I was just looking at a pair of risers for my dual sport. This video was perfect timing. Being 6'2" I need that little extra handlebar height for comfort and safety. Noticed at 14:15.
hi thank you for this video. is it an impression or does the brake oil hose seem tight with this modification? Is it possible to loosen it a bit so it doesn't feel so tight?
I do find, when fitting long bolts such as the ones you feature, that an electric screwdriver takes out a lot of wrist ache. I don't mean those superfast electric drill types, but the much gentler, powered screwdriver.
Another great video! You always do an awesome job showing and explaining what you are doing! Ever come out west I would love to show you a few of Wyoming and South Dakota back roads!
Great video, can you share the link to the risers that you purchased….can’t locate via search? Thanks and keep the Himalayan vids coming Ol’Man Ronin👍🏻
When put the risers on did ya have to extend any cables or buy new ones or anything like that????? I want to raise my raiser also but was afraid i have to buy all new cables
Trying to do mine and the bolts holding the clamp down are REALLY tight. Your's look like they took no effort to back out. Wondering if there's something wrong with mine..? I'm worried I'm going to break the bolt.
If you ever get the Interceptor try the Motone Bar risers. They not only bring the bars up but also back too. It made a big difference, put me in a more upright riding position. FYI you are one of the influences why I bought the RE 650. Thanks.
My long arms I usually dont need back I need up and sometimes forward. Like I did with the himalayan. If you noticed, I rotated the bars forward to give more reach
Good video and mod for you tall folk. 6am though, damn. I had to watch the replay. And I don't think anyone can miss the sunglass marker on this one. 😂
I use a stock handle bar in my Himalayan. I feel some pain in my left palm after around just 50-100 kms. I dont usually hold the handle bar firmly. Do you think these risers make a difference considering my height 5'6 inches?
its hard to say, try loosening the bars and moving them slightly up and down to see if the fit becomes more natural. I put 40mm risers on my bars and pushed them up/forward a tad and its perfect for me

Really very good modification, it is one of the things that I will do to my bike soon. I was afraid you might have had to replace the throttle or clutch cable, but apparently all was well. How high is the height you put to translate it to millimeters? Greetings friend and good routes .. !!
Nooo everytime I see one of your Himalayan bids I am decided that is my next bike and then I watch a Meteor video and decide that is my next bike. Now I at 6ft 1 1/2 I am already modding my imaginary bike. Are the Moto Guzzi and Honda Supercub days numbered in my garage . . . . . . :-)
Hey man, loved your videos. I'm having a hard time finding risers that fit my Himalayan down here in Chile. Would you mind sharing the link for the Moto Genius ones you've bought? Thanks!
Amazon quit carrying them i think I got the last pair ugh, which is why I didn't put a link to them. However, Ebay has several. I've haven't bought from any of them so I simply can't recommend if you know what I mean?
Probably not. I don't stand using forward controls, and the rider triangle is pretty good. PLUS if I was going higher, I might look at mini apes on a cruiser
Maybe she or the person putting them on didn't know what they were doing ??? I on the other hand do, having put NUMEROUS different handlebars on too many bikes to count. Check out my catalog of other videos on handlebar installation as well knowing how much slack you need.
Thats a great mod! you certainly look after your bikes - just a thought on looking after yourself though - do you carry some basic first aid? a field dressing, gauze pads for example. its so easy to tumble in the woods and cut yourself on branches and stuff. (especially with all that bare skin :)
Thanks for watching Steve. watch more of my videos, I mention a full trauma kit I carry with me any time Im in the woods. and basic first aid is always with me. FYI former volunteer firefighter will emt training.
thanks for sharing your experiences ... Im addicted to RE videos and I watch most of yours ... cool .. I live and work on the border of England and Wales, UK and, Im very torn between the Meteor and the Himalyan. I want to take my dog with me camping in Wales (UK) (where the roads are hilly and windy with spectacular scenery) ... this may seem like a silly question but the one thing that puts me off the Himalyan is that the headlight doesnt follow the handlebar position but is fixed facing forwards ... has this caused any difficulty for you or might it be able to be repostioned? Would a handlebar riser make the Meteor more "roomy" also? ....
Anthony Bear The RE Himalayan and RE Meteor are both great Motorcycles however in answer to your question. I would suggest you go for the RE Himalayan for a number of practical reasons. If you are going to use it camping, I also assume you would travel along those Forestry tracks and trails in the Mountains of Wales! I spent a week in Wales on my RE Himalayan in 2019 travelling on all sorts of roads both in North, Central and South Wales. Starting every morning at around 0730hrs to get the maximum time on the bike. We travelled through Mountain roads, tracks and trails and the Forestry tracks and farm trails and tracks in all weathers it was great and I know I had the right Motorcycle for the job in the Himalayan! It also has excellent fuel economy if you are commuting regular. I cannot wait to return to Wales with my Himalayan. The headlight is not a real issue and you could make it into a normal (moving with the handlebars) headlight. There are a number of articles here on YT Re changing the headlight to move with the handlebars! I can tell you the Himalayan will not disappoint, also there are far more accessories & after market bits to fit at a reasonable cost both on Amazon, Ebay & other outlets for the Himalayan. This will allow you to customise it and make it personal to you. Whatever Motorcycle you decide to purchase, take time and look around for any Mods & accessories as there are lots out there at various prices. Good luck with your choice of Motorcycle!
Of course if Re bring out a new 500 classic with redesigned engine and running gear .. well its all up for grabs .. or an Interceptor with onroad/off road tyres ... argh ... lol .. omg RE ... what are you doing to me?!?
No, can't fit a slipper clutch, but why would You? I very rarely have to change gear in mine. Learned on bikes with disgusting clutches, the himalayan one is fantastic for a basic simple clutch. Its light and has nice take up. I never snatch gears, you just need to learn clutch control. In my honest opinion, slipoer clutches are just another thing to go wrong and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. Reliability? Do the basic maintenance and they last for ever, 20,000 kms on my last one when I sold it, got 5,000 on my 2021 already, and only bought a new one to get the switchable ABS
I am debating on getting the straight risers like yours, or getting the ones that offset...bringing the bars either toward or away from me.....I know in the stock position....I feel as if I am reaching a little.....
no, experience has taught me to use gentle pressure to loosen bolts to avoid such dilemmas, but if it won't budge, then heat from a heat gun at first, last resort torch. I also have a screw extractor set ALWAYS on standby lol
here's a solution. sitting on the bike on the center stand or with someone holding the bike straight up. place your hands out stretched to the most comfortable riding position and then get the bar setup that brings the bars to that place. UNFORTUNATELY, most dealers really dont know how ro set the bike up for individual riders. But they should. there are several options when even using stock handlebars for increased or decreased reach without adding risers or pull backs
