In place Instead of the 24mm socket you can use a 15/16”. 24mm=.944”, 15/16”=.937” .007” difference, most tool manufacturers (even the pricy tool truck brands) will use the same socket for both sizes.
I love people that use the almost but not quite same size tools. Ok if you're only running a nut off or on. Put any descent torque on it and you will start rounding the flats off. Please buy good quality correct size sockets. You will thank yourself when you have to crack that axle nut loose one day
@@mattyb7736 ...or just try the fit, since fastener wrenching sizes are not guaranteed accurate. A good fitting wrench or socket is better than a loose fitting one, even if it is the specified size.

Great video. Periodic Maintenance is important! The nuts that hold the O.E M hand guards are the most frequent offenders on my 2020 Himi, followed by the rear exhaust hanger. Several fasteners were "stupid tight" from the factory. Also learned that the tension existing on some of the OEM bash plate fasteners, (due to bend in the design) almost requires a helper in order to keep your sanity. 😎

What no 24mm socket???? LOL... Oh, that's right Harley's don't use metric well at least the older models. That's one issue every Himalayan has is that stem nut along with the bearings. I find myself checking that nut more than any other nut. Another great video.
G'day Ronin from Australia, very important tips for any Motorcycle even if it's New from the dealership, l have found nut loose from day one, also after ever ride you should put a spanner over the bike, l have had to buy more tools to suit the 650 Interceptor , theirs nothing worse when something comes adrift half way through a ride, maintenance is a must for longevity of a machine, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

I found one of the screws securing the lower front front fender several turns loose when checking fasteners. It's certainly good to check the major critical safety fasteners, but all that you can access should get a periodic check.

It is always good to check the nuts and bolts on a motorcycle, or even scooter or bicycle, I had once a loose bolt on a pannier holder of my bicycle, it almost ruined my holyday as it feld of I could make temporary repair with a piece of steel wire from a fence, and I found a replacement bolt at a bike shop so now I regulary check all the bolts and nuts.
why its also important to wash your bike and feel for loose or missing bolts mud and debris may be hiding

Yeah watch that header nut on the steering, loose on arrival, tightened at service came loose again. Tightened down now! I think the original looseness caused the headset bearing to go which was replaced. @montysmotoadventures Ride Safe. Monty.
Never had my stem nut or triple clamps come loose. Pulled it apart at 500 miles, washed and greased then re assembled with just a spot of loctite. Mine was pretty dry and not much grease.
You must have good training from your Harley’s . I always check every bolt bi-monthly, my little PMS .

Dear friend.. Very good to know, thanks. In my humble experience, if I can contribute, I found bolts in cover exhaust to be loosened. I lost one a couple of times. And also odometer cable tends to break in the middle fork support, in this case I opt for lubricating a bit from time to time to give it some roon in the support. Hope it helps. Best regards,

What I think is often forgotten is to check the tightness of the spoke.
Well my Himalayan's becoming hard to shift thru gears and downshifting is a nightmare.. I'd have to kick it down sometimes unless i rev match and downshift.. and dropping the gear from 2nd to 1st makes a huge *clunk!.
Looking for a new bike within the next few months… loved my ‘76 Triumph Bonneville and learned a ton about cars and maintenance of old motorcycles but I need something more modern with electric start, smoother transmission. and better brakes. I think the meteor or Himalayan may be the ticket. Not worried about a little maintenance but parts availability I am concerned about. Believe it or not, parts for my old triumph are everywhere online.
Same is true with Royal Enfield. Parts everywhere especially India
A few more: turn signals, muffler heat shield, handlebar bolts, hand controls. All those went loose.

I have two one for lower inch pounds and a heavier for foot pounds. Both offer NM so the range fits nearly all I do
"Critical Fasteners" not just a Harley thing....
I better buy a decent torque wrench. I saw the Scram is starting to arrive in the US now. Would love your opinion on that compared to the Himalayan if you can get a ride on one. Thanks.

Always keep some LOCKTITE in the workshop, and you won't have do that again!
loctite isn't perfect, it helps, but even red isn't foolproof. Years of riding tell you this.
