  • The Big Apple is in bad shape.
It’s the epicentre of the US fight against the corona virus outbreak. Its people are in lockdown while frontline services wage war against the pandemic.
With over fourteen thousand dead, New York City accounts for around one third of all corona-related deaths in the US.
Every day, there are hundreds of new infections and deaths. The city’s hospitals are overflowing, health workers lack medical and protective equipment and morgues have run out of space.
Foreign Correspondent’s reporter Karishma Vyas, a New York resident, goes behind the lines of the city’s battle to slow infections, save lives, protect its vulnerable and bury the dead.
We follow paramedics as they respond to emergency house calls, helping desperate families. We discover many who die of COVID-19 don’t make the official death toll.
We film with the police union as they hand out desperately needed personal safety equipment to their officers.
“I thought I’d seen it all on September 11th, but I’ve never seen anything like this. We’re anticipating this getting even worse. So that’s why we’re trying to get this equipment out to our guys”, says a Union officer.
We speak with an ICU nurse who’s travelled from out of state to lend a hand in a Bronx hospital. He tells us about working double shifts, often with no break, and the pressure of looking after multiple critically ill patients at the same time. A good day is when none of his patients die.
One overworked doctor describes his frustration with the US health system.
“I’ve had people come in barely breathing and their first question isn’t ‘Am I going to survive?’ It’s ‘How is this going to impact my family financially?’”
“This illness exposes all the fault-lines throughout American society”, says the doctor.
And we catch up with characters who embody the city’s spirit of defiance and survival.
“I want to be remembered as someone who never left the frontlines and who was essential”, says the Naked Cowboy, a performer whose stage is Times Square - rain, hail or coronavirus.
This is an intimate and powerful portrait of a city in crisis.

The Swiss company that makes the tests is not sharing the production because they have the patent on it. All over the world we can see the non excisting morality of our captalist society and the people who are running it. When this is over its time to start asking questions. To focus on what is important. Burn everyone that is using this pandemic for their own benefit.

@@dadikkedude Patents usually take years to issue so there cannot be a patent for this coronavirus test specifically. If it's a test device / process that happens to be used for the coronavirus test, then the patent only applies in the countries that granted it and, at least in the US, the government can infringe so long as they pay a reasonable royalty later. Also capitalism is the best system ever! Otherwise you wouldn't have the innovation that the patent is allegedly protecting!

    • @chronos401
      @chronos401 4 роки тому +6

@@lastbutfirst266 Apparently you're clueless in how the US government works. The president is not a dictator or your daddy. He enforces federal laws. He is not in charge of individual states or their internal affairs.
Each hospital is responsible for stockpiling enough PPE to handle a disaster-type situation. Each city, county, and state are also responsible for stockpiling enough PPE for the same to backstop all their hospitals. All four are responsible for having plans to surge medical capacity to handle the same. They failed on all this.
The federal government is responsible for backstopping the states. They've never had to do it for all 50 states plus territories at the same time. There was no buffer period to react because almost all states, locales, and hospitals failed miserably in doing their jobs ahead of time for handling a disaster.
Congress, which controls the purse strings, has to approve and allocate funds before the Executive Branch can do pretty much anything. Congressional Dems were far too busy pushing an unjust impeachment to entertain their sicko base. They, Cuomo, De Blasio, and other NY officials actively told people to ignore the Trump Admin on this virus and go enjoy large gatherings including the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Yes, Trump did indeed downplay the situation because the majority of Americans cannot mentally handle the truth. Hospitals and states were so ill-prepared for this virus that we were on track to have at least tens of millions die. To prevent this, governors shutdown most of the country totally destroying our economy. After Congressional Dems woke up to what was happening, they've been far more interested in pushing their communist agenda and padding their cronies' pockets than helping to save small businesses and individuals forced into unemployment.
The one good thing about this pandemic is it's mostly concentrated in very blue areas in the US. This virus knows well that you lefties are a horrible cancer.

Anne Bell This is what many people don't what is goes on inside the minds of the healthcare staff looking after these patients. It is not always easy when you have patients dying under your watch. If there is any saving grace, if you can call it that way is that he never really got to know any of his patient's stories that emotional attachment in some personal level is avoided. Every death is tough most especially in this kind of pandemic where all the patient have is you, his, her nurse and in their last moment even the stretcher their bodies can rest on while they wait to be transported to the morgues is still taken away prematurely, instead letting their bodies lay on the elevator floor or the hallways floor.
These are very traumatic events, even seeing your colleagues the very people you worked with just a few days ago also succumbing to this virus
Is heartbreaking. These healthcare workers should be provided some sort of post traumatic counselling when this pandemic settles, I can just imagine them breaking down and cry after their shifts from frustrations, stress, heartaches etc....emotions that people who rallies and call this pandemic fake or over blown, shouting about their rights ( as if they are the only ones that have it) simply refuse to acknowledge, that or they are just that dense and insensitive fools.
Let us keep our front liners, our gov't leaders, everyone especially those who thinks the stats in this pandemic are made up n all our 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Sometimes people who lie accidentally give themselves away. That "lapse in judgement" is significant. It means they never believed their own fear mongering or else they would been socially distant, would never have entered that elderly lady's home who was coughing like mad and definitely infected with Covid. Violating those kinds of guidelines means you're either lackadaisical in following the rules you truly believe in (less likely) or you low key know that the danger is far less than you're trying to portray. With this all in mind, its so clear that this is propaganda.

You try to forget ya know. You try to forget what it was like to be here on 911. I was a freshman in high school walking to 2nd period, there was a bunch of chatter echoing in the stairwell about the WTC and planes. Needless to say, we did no work that day as freshman's, we just watched the news in every class. I'm 34 now, and imagine this will be a memory for my 12 year old son that he will try his damndest to forget, but it will stay burned in our hearts forever. Living in SC, I never felt particularly close to any New Yorkers, hell im willing to bet ya some money half of em couldn't understand my country southern draw. But my heart hurts for yall. I cry tears everyday for people I dont even know. I never forgot about yall, and I wont this time either.
    Sincerely,

Disquieting to see that the correspondent for this piece is wearing a mask that's ill-fitting and clearly oversized for her face. Not a very good role-model and not to mention that she failed to distance herself adequately when interviewing that woman who was CoVIR-2 positive - who ALSO had an ill-fitting mask on.

Because it would ruin the movie if they showed us that nothing was really going on behind the scenes... All the people shown on this program look like seniors who's suffering from a pre-existing condition which is being exacerbated by the propagation of tv programs such as this. Mental abuse and fear-mongering at its finest.
Plot twist - This is a global social experiment to see how people would react when all they're fed is fear and propaganda.

It's a different world we are living in that's for sure.

However, the news outlets in the States love to do segments on how they are short on these supplies without explaining why there's a shortage. Unfortunately, Rupert Murdoch, himself an Australian who own Fox News the daily show hosts have convinced their audience that universal health care will be bad for them and doctors will have to choose who live or die. Many of the people who support Trump agree. Just go back to 2009 when the tea party was formed to challenge Obama's ACA that would provide health care for everyone. Ever since the Republicans have challenged the law in court and currently they have a case before the US Supreme Court that Trump agrees with and they asked the court not to take up the case until after the November election.

We'd rather continue turning a blind eye to the crimes the 1%ers are committing, while getting richer and richer, and more and more powerful. Then to spend any time on the health of our nation's common people. They're useless and dispensable anyway. America is no longer a Democracy, we're broken, "for the people, by the people" no longer means anything, we have become an oligarchic nation. We've lost our path.

My sister has had to work 16 hour shifts with migraines every day, but still works to keep her elderly patients safe and cared for. Hearing Governor Cuomo's voice in the background, calming, yet brutally truthful, fighting day after day after day to get the facts out there, and to accept questions from reporters, is something I'll never forget. Tears. Tears for this tragedy and how it has affected us all. I was there during the Oklahoma City Bombing. It left 'broken shrapnel' in my heart. This is like a bombing in every building. Heart wrenching. And the shrapnel left behind will hurt for a long time. I don't even know how the front lines will deal with the PTSD that's coming.

NYC with a population of 8.4 millions currently has thousands. Another thing some of the covid-19 patients have kidney failure. Most third world countries have very few hemodialysis centers.
