  • Hey Guys! Today I'm sharing the natural hair tools that I DON'T LIKE! These are popular tools in that natural hair community that are considered the best natural hair tools but I'm just NOT feeling it. I get asked about these specific tools on social media, so I'm finally making a video to talk about them! I hope you enjoy! XO Nap

      Naptural85 I'd be interested in a video on products that surprised you -- maybe in a good way. Are there any products that worked way better than you expected them to or surprised you in any other ways (was expensive and worked the same as a drugstore brand?). Also, LOOOOOVE the hair!

      Omg I love the q-redew! Maybe you got a faulty one because mines doesn't do any of that. I also only use distilled water. I never tried the hooded one because it didn't look comfortable and you don't have the control you have with the q-redew. I've even used it to steam my face. I love that tool!

    Hey Whitney! So the qredew I’ve had one for 5 years and I’d like to think I totally know how to use it now. So I can tell you that the qredew has mineral deposit build up inside if you use it and put it down with the water left inside. What you’re explaining happens to me everytime I haven’t used it in say a month or more. A simple fix is to use distilled water. But to clear the clogged, mineral filled holes, plug is out and use a bobby pinto rod out the mineral build up. Another option is to put vinegar in the water part. Keep pressing the button and it will melt out the deposit build up. I promise you this will help. And after it’s all cleared out just use all distilled water. Hope this helps you or anyone else with a qredew.

    I love the Dyson Blow Dryer. I've had it since it first came out, truly love the speed of the dryer. My curls dry quickly and blow drying my hair is effortless. I usually use the dryer right after a wash if im straightening my hair or after styling products when it comes to using the diffuser on my curls.
    Your hair must be very saturated. On the lightest heat, use a wide tooth comb first, then build up to higher heat while using a paddle brush (smoothes and straightens) as you get closer to your roots, or when your hair starts to blow out. Another tip when using the Dyson is to use the smoothing attachment and not the one for volume (I believe it's the smaller nozzle).
    When using the diffuser on curls use low heat or cool with a bouncing method (use the highest blow strength its 3 dots). I also use the diffuser after blow drying before flat irons, to make sure my roots are dry.
    Hope this helps anyone :)

    • @ceceh6893
      @ceceh6893 3 роки тому +9

      I agree. I was thinking it could have been technique as well. I have a silver bird that works great but gives me heat damage. I like that the dyson also gives me a smooth damage free blowout (though it does take a bit more skill to use)

    • @charmainerussell4490
      @charmainerussell4490 3 роки тому +10

      I’m 2 years late, but I also have to wonder what products were used to prep for blow drying? The shampoo and conditioning of the hair are “super” important when prepping for a blowout. So was it really the dryer that made the hair fell dry? It shouldn’t have, really. Or was it the shampoo and condition method? Just a question.

    Oh my gosh, once I had a horrible accident with my heutiful steamer. Usually I put a towel round my neck to avoid the hot splashes from the dome but for some reason I didn’t this time and a drop fell on my neck and it was soooo hot that I naturally jumped lifting the dome up and the whole container of boiling hot water fell on my shoulders. I got burned really badly. The worst pain I’ve ever experienced.

  • @wannabe41

    Oddly enough, I have owned a hooded steamer for about 2 years. It's not a Huetiful steamer, but all those models look similar. I've used it every wash day for 2 years, and it's never burned my scalp. I've also owned a Q-Redew for over a year and I love it too. My most disliked hair tool is the Denman brush. I've tried modifying it, making sure my hair is wet and saturated with product and the dang thing still snags my hair.

    • @Naptural85
      @Naptural85  6 років тому +47

      Katherine Miller 😩 I wish I had the same experiences! That tells me that QRedew must have quality control issues bc mine is a HOT MESS!! 🙄🙄😫 But I'm happy yours is working well! I've switched from the denman brush to Felicia Leatherwood Detangler! You should give it a try you may like it better! ❤️❤️

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 6 років тому +32

      I hate the Denman. It pulls & tugs at my hair and scalp. I much prefer my Tangle Teezer for detangling my hair dry pre-wash and my Wet brush for when my hair comes out the (microfiber) towel. Those brushes are awesome, don't pull or tug! Even better than my wide tooth combs as they even pull & tug.

    I am the same with eyelashes, especially because I have small, hooded eyes; they are a no go for me. I was wondering about that Dyson dryer; you would think for $400 it would massage your scalp and add 2 inches of growth while you dried your hair! Good to know I can save my coin from that. Thanks for sharing; I know you are crazy busy, but I miss seeing more videos from you!

    I have to say, I am so happy to hear your honest opinion. When those first two items came out years ago, I felt like I was missing a movement because I simply couldn't afford them at that time. CharyJay did all those videos about the salon opening in Chicago, and everything. My main concern was getting stem burned. Thank you for clearing all of this up. Now I'm glad I saved my money. These are the reasons people read reviews. We don't like wasting time or money. I don't see it as bashing. Everything isn't for everyone, but when people are transparent and give an informed review, it helps. A LOT.

It actually left my hair shiny and full of body 😃 I think you should give it another try. Serita Veras I actually LOVE IT, my husband got it for me for my birthday last year... its the best for when i am taking down my braids. it loosens up my hair making it easier to comb through. i did a lot of research and they do say it can be a hit or miss. and that can just be manufacturer problems... i do not use it everyday but it def makes combing my haor out easier and takes 30 mins to do my entire head, and ive been told i have a big head and A LOT OF HAIR!

    I have the Dyson and I always use it for wash and gos when I want my curls to pop. I put a lot of moisturizer and gel to keep the curls from tangling. My hair is so dense that air drying is hopeless when I put gel in it, so the Dyson is perfect for drying with heavy product in your hair. Never tried a blow out though...too scared!

    I will never ever spend $400 on a blow dryer. Doesn’t make sense to me lol every review I’ve seen, their results look pretty much the same as any regular dryer lol. Never ever gonna be buying that 🙃🙃

      This is the second bad review of the Dyson hair dryer. The first review had LOADS of comments saying it dried their hair. I've tried this dryer and loved it. What I HATED was the cold shot button, it's the teeniest thing and didn't work for me as my finger hurt pressing it as I use it for most of the drying. I was totally going to buy this then saw the bad reviews and decided to get the Remington Air, which it's cold shot is a trigger. And 83% cheaper! I'm so happy with it. It's diffuser also dries roots quicker, which was the whole reason why l use a hair dryer in the Winter months only. Great review, TY

I just received the blow dryer today and you explained it EXACTLY the way I feel about it! It left my clients hair sooo dry and weird feeling! And had it been $15 exactly I wound have say hey, no prob! B/c once I straightened the hair it was actually fine! But for $400 bucks!?!?!?!? Noooooo Waugh 😩😣 sooo disappointed! I thought maybe I was just being a bit hard on it or going crazy lol! Watching your video.... CONFIRMED.... I do not like it... sadly!

    Hey Whitney, love your hair! I did purchase the Dyson blow dryer and I love it. I was really hesitant because it is so expensive but when I used it and saw how fast it blew my hair dry on low heat, I was in love. I also have the Q-Redew and it still works but I stopped using it because it is too heavy and I would have to keep refilling the water. I prefer the hot head heat cap, it is so convenient and I can move around the house and get other stuff done.

    My Q-Redew works the charm and it keeps a steady stream of steam. Perhaps you have one of the first models? Make sure your using a distilled water from a reputable company cause not all distilled water is alike.

      Sharon Matesun anything but Nestle and store brands. I have used these items in other appliances that require distilled water. My appliances dripped and left a white residue.

      Nancy purter I think she had a faulty QRedew. I own one for almost 3 years and I use it every weekend. So sorry it didn’t work for Whitney though because it changed my hair (made it so manageable). But yeah it’s pricey (but again it was a great investment for me.) and I have to be careful when the steam dispenses because u can get ‘sting’ from the steam.

    • @karenfitzgerald7580
      @karenfitzgerald7580 6 років тому +2

      I agree, it sounds like a faulty one. Also, they suggest using distilled water because if you use tap water (which contains minerals) may clog the little nozzles where the steam comes out. If that does happen, you can use vinegar to clean it. I’ve had mine for over a year with no problems.

    • @traciearly6316
      @traciearly6316 6 років тому +1

      I got a faulty one too. It was spewing hot drops of water on my face. NOT ok. Sent it back and got a new one and i love it. Its great for deep conditioning

    • @vnessaw
      @vnessaw 6 років тому +1

      I got mine for Christmas and am starting to have the issues Whitney is describing so it seems faulty ones are fairly normal. Since I already own it might be worthwhile to reach out to the company or do the vinegar clean someone else mentioned but if I had known might’ve bought something else. When it was working it actually does an amazing job when you’re deep conditioning

    I love my Qredew! Sounds like you got a lemon. I’ve had mine for a few years and it still works just fine. I’ve never had the issues with it that you mentioned. It has always warmed up within a few seconds and the stream of steam is always consistent. They should send you a new one so you can try it again. I mainly use it to detangle and stretch my hair. It has saved me a lot of breakage because it melts away tangles, knots and matted hair. I don’t use it every detangling session, but if you’re like me, unfortunately when I get depressed and stressed I don’t have the energy to deal with my hair. So during those times, the qredew has been a life saver!

    Thank you for your honest review on the dyson hair dryer... My experience was disappointing as well. To spend $400 on a blow dryer and have it fall apart every time you’re using it is very upsetting! The filter keeps sliding off and there is no way to tighten it! Quite frustrating!…Don’t get me wrong. I am a true dyson fan. I own 3 fans and 2 vacuum cleaners which I totally love ❤️. Another complaint I have is the customer service. You cannot get anyone on the phone. I purchased 2 items last year and had to return it, which I did and to date have not gotten my money back! I’ve finally gotten an email last month that they received the items, still no refund yet!!! I am so disappointed in dyson at this point. I’m so so over trying to contact them. Anyway girl... love you! Keeps doing what you do!

    I can’t imagine my life without my Q-Redew lol. My hair is 100000% better since using it, my hair is 1000000000% more moisturized! If you have hard water it will be difficult lol. It literally states it on the instructions, use distilled water. It’s so much better than a hooded steamer because you can control where the steam goes, so no burned scalps :) sad that you don’t like it!
