I don't think it depends if you grew up with guns or not. Even I know you always treat a gun like it's loaded, check for yourself, and never point it at anyone and I've never had anything to do with guns, my country doesn't have a gun culture like in the US.

Why isn’t the prosecution bringing in the fact that Alec’s dad taught firearms training? He was a gym teacher who taught the rifle team. His entire family knew about firearms safety from childhood.

Firearm safety is irrelevant on set- there’s not supposed to be live ammo there and OBVIOUSLY, with thousands of examples, general gun safety does not apply on movie sets. You’d never point any gun at another person at all, All guns are treated as live and loaded at all times- so how could you film a scene with guns to peoples heads or shootouts in westerns etc. use blue plastic dummy guns and special effects is going to be the result of this.

So the gun manufacturer comes in and says "our product is 100% reliable, no defects!". Is anyone surprised by that? Chris saying "you don't point a gun and pull the trigger unless you plan on shooting them" in normal every day life with guns he would be totally right, but doesn't apply to actors in movies. If you go with the safety rules as Chris outlined, then clearly the rules weren't followed, but does that become the actors fault and should they bear ultimate culpability at a criminal level? If so, does the actor ever sign a document to indicate that they understand that?
I also have to wonder why the gun itself was even fitted with a firing pin, the ultimate in safety would be for it either not to be there or modified in such a way that it can't fire live rounds. If that was done then it would have been a fail safe protocol. If you then need to fire blanks during the movie it can be swapped out and the weapon should always then be considered a hot weapon and checks be done. But visually blanks and live rounds are very different which makes the task that much more reliable.
As for, "would you put the gun to your head and pull the trigger?", Alec's argument is that he didn't pull the trigger and the weapon was faulty. So it's a false equivalence.
With regards to the Producer angle that's mentioned quite a bit, I do agree that they have ultimate responsibility but in this case it is a "they". I checked on IMDB and there are 8 Producers listed against this movie! If the Prosecution wanted to go after this role then they should go after all 8, and not just go for the 1 with the biggest name recognition.

Perfectly explained. There are a couple of other points the prosecution seems not to be using. Pre lunch did AB cock the hammer ? After lunch he does. Also AB doesn't seem to truly understand the mechanics of a single colt. Cock the hammer all the way back and the slightest pressure on the trigger it goes off. Pressure not a full "pull" like most other pistols.

When we put them side to side, they look identical you cannot tell them apart. So I’m saying you don’t have to have real guns when you’re filming a movie. These guns can be a replica of a real one and that’s very easy to do. You don’t need a real gun. And I hate when they call it a prop it is not a PROP! My CO2 pistol can be a prop for a 9 mm gun.
