Yoshikuni Kamichika is the name of the Japanese tycoon who built the Village. He first visited The Netherlands in 1979 and was transfixed by the architecture. He returned to Japan with the idea to recreate a village of Dutch architecture, not just as a business opportunity but as a way of revitalising the prefecture of Nagasaki, which, at that time was very poor. The Village opened in 1983 and closed in 2001. He never lived in the mansion; this was a museum of history, charting the 250 year trading relationship between Japan and The Netherlands. He sold it in 2001. Two companies have since owned the Village - one went bankrupt and the other still owns it and is trying to raise further capital to re-do it up. Yoshikuni Kamichika also created and owned Huis Ten Bosch, another Dutch theme park in Nagasaki. This is bigger and has been more successful than Holland Village. It is still s popular theme park today. Yoshikuni Kamichika died in 2021. He was a family friend, hence why I know the above.
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I looked online and couldn’t find much about the place but what I did find was in line with what you said. I was wondering if the information about his wife was true but I believe that if he sold it then he didn’t simply disappear. Always some sort of a made up story behind abandoned things to make life more interesting.
No worries at all - happy to share what I know. He was a lovely man who fell in love with Holland and had a 40 odd year love affair with the country - its history and architecture. He was extremely wealthy (a shrewd business man) and felt it his duty to educate the Japanese on their history and heritage links with Holland, as well as try to boost tourism and the financial fortunes of those in Nagasaki. His 2nd Dutch theme park is about 5 times the size of Holland Village and has done very well financially. He sold it also, to an investment company, but it is still regarded as his 'baby' in Japan. Ge also loved monkeys, and introduced them to the Village, so I'm not surprised you saw one near the escalator. Your video was absolutely fantastic and you have done the Village a great service in how sensitively you have filmed it. Thank you so much.
@@bjohn1681 aww what a lovely story. It wasn’t my video, I’m just a viewer who likes to go down rabbit holes and research the back story and history behind some abandoned places I come across on UA-cam. This one spiked my interest big time! Thanks again 😊
The fact that it's been up for a long time and it still looks prestine with few cracks is absolutely amazing. How was it able to keep it so neat? The materials used are extraordinary for it to standstill like that.
It's so sad that he was so sad after his wife died that he just left everything to rot. I can imagine just how beautiful it once was. Great video Dave! You and Steve stay safe and I love you both!
Thank you so much for taking us all with you to this amazing place, Dave! Just imagine the love that man had for his wife that he did that all for her!
This by far has to be the absolute best location you have filmed in Japan. The house alone, let alone the theme park, are amazingly awesome. I can only begin to imagine the stories this place could tell of when it was in its prime. Truly sad to see it wasting away. Hopefully someone can at least save the beautiful mansion. Looking forward to the next amazing adventure. Until then stay safe and God bless. Steve from Oklahoma
That would be a perfect b&b because the little houses like the chocolate house and all the other little houses that are right there on the grounds could have been perfect for a b&b having the rooms be themed.
What am amazing home. The love they put into this. He wanted to make her happy in her own home. It would be really cool to be there exploring with you all. I may never leave, spend time returning it to the glory they originally built
You're like a couple of kids!! That was certainly something different - what a shame that it has deteriorated so that there's no hope of saving it. Thanks for the explore!
Wow! Incredible! Imagine growing up in such place and being able to go ride the carousel everyday after school. I’d never get my homework done. 😂 Loved this explore!
Wow just wow, what a stunning place, i hope it gets done up again. I would love to live in the mansion. Awesome video. God bless, take care and thank you for bringing us along 👏🙏❤️
You and your bird sound effects 😂😂😂😂. I'm in love with the carousel, I absolutely adore them. I bet in the evening it would have been a romantic place ❤ x
I bet this was once a really beautiful place to visit. I can't help but think of all the fun families must have had there, and all the good memories that were made there. It's sad to see it in the state it's in now. I can imagine the grief the husband had after losing his wife. It was probably too much for him to bear. I must admit if I lost my husband I don't think I could go on without him. I totally get what the husband was going through. I hope he found peace. Thanks so much for the amazing work you do, it's greatly appreciated. ❤❤
what an amazing place dave and a wonderful story so sad, brilliant explore, i loved that, thanks for sharing, great video xx thank god for the drone dave lol, cos u cudnt of walked on any of that wood, it looked well dodgy! xx
This guy must have been MEGA RICH with a fantastic idea of the theme park. Sadly all the rides and buildings outside are badly decayed, but on your explore of the Mansion, there was only 1 room that had mildew coming in through the ceiling and down in the basement. Bulldoze the outside rides and damaged buildings, and the mansion could easily be turned into a gorgeous Hotel, there are plenty of bathrooms. Thanks Dave for an awesome walk around this awesome place
I really didnt get a feel for this house all the rooms were too open and it looked more like a venue or ballroom, its very weird. I loved the fairground though and all the chandeliers and wall lights in what i would call the ballroom. Thankyou for sharing this video x
Great place! That carousel is amazing!! It needs to be saved and restored. I have never seen a double-decker one before. When I was about 12, we had a small amusement park. Our carousel was a lot bigger than that one and I got to ride it all I wanted! ( btw, that carousel is now at the Museum of Natural History in Albany, New York USA) Here in the US, those horses are worth thousands of dollars each! Thanks for the memory. ( I am 69 now!! lol!)😊
What an incredible place! It was very sad and a bit creepy at times. I can only imagine the fun people had when it was open. Thank you for risking life and limb to get this video done. Love you loads!
It's a beautiful day there with water and the mallards flying around. The ambience is sad though. The overgrowth is stunning as well. Thanks for the nice explore in Japan. So curious about the owners though. Man that is a humungous spider. That spider would have me running. What a living nightmare.
Still beautiful even in it's decaying splendor. And what a sad story of the owner and his loneliness. I remember seeing Dan and Josh's videos on this place many years ago.
Hey Dave!! Wow sad story but beautiful lol love the Michael Jackson singing hehe! What an awsom home those chandeliers..a little creepy wih the figurines thanks for showing. ❤
Im so thankful that you took us along to this beautiful wonderland. It's so sad to see how much his heart hurt after losing his wife, that he left it all. None of it mattered anymore.
Hi Dave & Steve xWoW I just watched this it was fabulous!!! What an unusually different place to explore...love your drone work you definitely make us the viewer feel like we are there with you!!! Thankyou as always love to you Mark & family's.. stay safe ❤❤
I would have loved to have seen it when it was up and running! Too bad you don’t have any pictures of it back when. Imagine how beautiful a place it was. Sad to see it go into shambles.
What a beautiful story at the beginning on how they met, so sad after she passed though. 😢 What a beautifully stunning Mansion! It truly is in better shape than most you visit. It's to bad that he couldn't stay after she passed. Thank you Dave for another amazing video. The theme park is just awesome. I could just picture all the kids enjoying themselves on all the rides, smiles on their faces.
What a great place to explore. I was hoping to find some pictures when it was up and running, but no such luck . . . Yet. Thank you for showing us around, you are quite the guide.
Wow an amazing find with such a sad story to be told bet it was an amazing day out in it's day also i carnt believe i missed one of your vids but i had alot of things going on at the min but that's just life take care ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤x
23:22, my all time favorite ride. Wow, is all I can say. This is stunning, wonder who the people were that left this place abandoned? Excellent find. Stay safe!
Really enjoyed this. So sad it’s just left to deteriorate. Such a beautiful thing to create. He must have been a lovely husband . You’re so lucky to visit these forgotten places. Thank you for showing us x
Dave, you truly succeeded in making me feel like I was there. I could feel all those boards cracking under your feet and imagine the beauty it used to be. I'd pay to go there and just enjoy the sights, sounds, the people. I'm not a high ride person either. I almost fell out once so that kinda did it for me.
Aww poor man grief and loneliness his mansion is fantastic all the lot is pukka imagine your children and then your grandchildren growing up here my 2 grandchildren would love it I really feel for this man thanks Dave for sharing it’s so awesome 😊😊
It is such a shame isn’t it what has happened such a sad story maybe rest in peace and you seem to yourself what happened to the children and why didn’t they take over no nature is taking its course but it’s so beautiful to see that it’s still there the house everything is just amazing. You can just sort of like pitch everything that they did in that house in those gardens on those rides and everything he did for his wife and that is amazing when you can picture it and have that imagination of what went on there. Thank you for sharing.

That was not the story, sorry.
@@syllekesitsmecan you tell the real story please
For me, an explore isn't complete, without seeing the kitchen...which is the heart of every home.
Life came from the kitchen.
Thank you so much for taking us all with you to this amazing place, Dave! Just imagine the love that man had for his wife that he did that all for her!
I love the fact that you guys find these beautiful places and share their back stories. Keep up the great work we appreciate all you do! 😊
The mansion is extraordinarily gorgeous! Loved the double decker carousel!

It wasn't built in Japan. Re listen to the beginning of this video!
That was a grand theme park for one owner. Impressive! Mansion is gorgeous and what a great story. 💗
My gosh shat is so beautiful. So many homeless people would have a home. Just stunning Dave. Take love you all.💕

Would luv to see some pics/videos when this place was thriving

After watching i typed in holland village japan and saw videos of it when it was up and running. So cool.
Amazing video and just hope the new company that owns the place can raise the funds to restore it as it truly needs saving.
Could you imagine growing up there as a child. What a beautiful life.
Great explore! 😀 It's such a shame to see the theme park decaying away! I hope it can be restored one day! 😊
Listen for the growl like sound, around about 50.51, as your walking around the start of the theme park
Thank for the tour was absolutely awesome
