I'm surprised to see that not much has changed with these race kits in the past 20 years. The electronics, though, have improved by galaxies since then. I'm itching to get back into this hobby now that brushless motors are a thing.
I've never driven on a rc track before. I just bought a new XRAY XB4D 2024 (dirt) and a Hobbywing XR10 Stock Spec G2 Sensored Brushless ESC/V10 G4R Motor Combo (17.5T) Since am retired now and winter is coming, I plan on practicing on our local indoor dirt track, and then try racing in the stock 17.5 class
I know that this is more than a year later, but did you ever verify that you used the correct pins in the CVA of that axle that was binding on you? I had this same problem when I built my 22 5.0 Elite back in 2019 (they use the same pins as on the the 22X-4 axles). I learned very quickly that the pins that go into the CVA joint and the ones that go into the axle for the wheel hex differ by .2mm in length. Anyway, I can tell you from personal experience that accidentally putting the axle pin in the CVA joint results in the very binding you described. The easiest way to identify them is to place the 4 pins side by side, and you can easily tell which two are longer. The manual also clarifies which one should be used for the CVA (332074 - 9.8mm), and which one should be used for the axle (232002 - 10mm). Crazy what just a .2mm difference can do!
Just built one of the 22x-4 (regular edition) a few months back. Absolutely awesome car, it feels incredible and it’s so easy to work on, even for an idiot like me!
Cool and informative video, I'm now looking into getting a new race buggy in the next few years i'm considering this TLR 22X-4 Elite since they discontinued the regular one or the Team Associated B74.2 i'm not sure which i would go for. I already own a B74.1 i bought from my dad it's a great car but i think i might want to upgrade someday.
Great review! For tires you should give the Schumacher mezzo a try for the rear and the wide stagger for the front, both in yellow compound. That is one of the best tire setups for turf I've found. If you need more steering you could go with the mezzo front but everyone that has tried them locally have said that the mezzo front is too aggressive. If the wide stagger is to aggressive you can switch to the jconcepts swagger front which makes the car easier to drive but the lap times are similar
Great video. What is the weight of your build, or the average weight of anyone else who has built this buggy? I want something lighter than my Tenacity db pro.
Back in the hobby after a 20 year break. These kits are so appealing, but I fear I don't have enough time to actually track and race to make it worth it. Is there a good middle ground for a kit with quality components like this? Maybe used?
Good review! Love the x-4 nice there's a elite version now. Couple more upgrades and it's about perfect. I'm a ae guy but this 4wd is the 1 to get. Nice seeing a race buggy review 👌
Congratulations on your videos. I own an mbx7 but I would like to convert it to electric. But I don't know if it's worth spending some money on it instead of getting a new LTR or RTR obviously I don't want to spend a lot of money. Could you give me some advice, whether to convert the mbx7 or point me to an LTR or RTR that has an excellent quality / price ratio. I thank you.
I have to admit that I’m confused by the wing. Why the hard right angle into a few mm of vertical plastic on the back? It’s seems like that would introduce a lot of drag. Is that necessary for jump stability?
That's a pretty sweet track! In this day when I keep seeing 3, 4, 5,6, and even 8S powered cars and trucks, I was dubious that a 2S battery would do much, but it sure seems to have no issues getting around that track for sure! Seeing no one around to marshal for you, ya sure got lucky landing on all fours those few times it landed wrong! lol
A buddy of mine thinks that it’s time for me to build a comp buggy/ truck/ truggy. I’ve been getting pretty good at wrenching (did your full option Rustler series) ,but like you said this may not be the right kit to start with… Would you recommend the 22T 4.0 stadium truck to a newb who just wants to build something and bang out some laps at an open practice?
I am having a hard time deciding between the 22x4 Elite and the Tekno EB410.2. Do you have any advice on why one would be better suited for a dirt track? I can get parts for either but people tell me the Tekno has the slight edge in durability.
I have a b6.1 astro turf carpet kit my local hobbytown had astro turf they closed mid late may 2020 to move to bigger venue when they reopened they had totally dirt clay track im looking at getting the losi roller for dirt clay i drive the turf car on a large manicured bahamia lot in our apartment complex 😆 girlfriend will not let me bring a dirty car in 🏠 great review
Wow is it just me or is that driver stand really high? That car rocks. Makes me wanna race buggies. Unfortunately there's no place near me to race. South Jersey sucks for RC. Aside from crawlers at least.
Hey my R/C brother there are few down by you iam lyndhurst nj. Vineland rc track plus if you goggle rc tracks in your area there actually there is few good ones take care, thanks your friendly neighborhood Doorman william from NJ Forgettaboutit lol 😆
@@williamthedoorman9610 i thought Vineland closed? Last I heard family hobbies went out of business. Btw, if you crawl look up hidden valley r/c crawlers. We have a huge outdoor crawler course in runnemede NJ.
@@rcdriver you’re def right. I just feel like Losi is lacking in the in general. Or is TLR not part of Losi? I guess I was just disappointed cuz there was rumbling of a new Losi release coming and we didn’t get anything. I really miss the Losi micros, those 1/36 were the best micro bashers.
Wow nice car and nice driving

I really want to build this buggy, local shops discurage me ( no where ot race them). I think I'll figure out a way to build a race track!

What’s the best bang for buck starting out 4x4 buggy? I used to run a cat 2000 tricked out back in the E day!
Awesome review. I wish there was more tracks here where I live but there isn't! I used to race Losi's back in the 90's.

What are the dimensions of the chassie please! Length and width??
Just discovered rc madness recently, definitely building one of these and a crawler.
After watching your video yesterday i went to my local race track and bought one

Definitely the best looking and performing 1/10 4wd buggy to day IMHO.
That has got to be the sexiest rc car ever ❤️ Love the running footage too 👍🏻
That track looks so big an awsome specially with a car like that.so cool

Team Associates & This TLR my next couple of projects ❤⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍

That's nice. I remember when I started with RC back in the 90's it was always Losi or Associated. Always wanted one
Of course this comes out right after I bought the earlier version.
I hear you. I was literally cutting the body for my new B6.3 build when the B6.4 landed in my email inbox.
Awesome Colours, Awesome buggy being Rocking for Team Losi sins 1990
Great video. What is the weight of your build, or the average weight of anyone else who has built this buggy? I want something lighter than my Tenacity db pro.
I have the 22x4 and I got a couple upgrades but what would I need to make it the elite
Just sent Larry a few bodies! Looks awesome
I love mine. It’s an absolute animal.
Nice Driving!! That thing looked glued
Thanks! It was a fun drive. Looking forward to more!

I am also coming out of retirement, I have bought a Yokomo but I am also looking at this kit

my march ordered kit did come with yellow wheels in the sealed box.
Nice truck, only thing is my Only LHS basically does not care about keeping spares available in his shop😞 That keeps me from buying new RC cars.
Awesome video ❤️, You Rock!!!!!!!
What mics do you use for your studio that's clipped to your shirt?
The quality parts on this vehicle... 😍 Truly amazing stuff. Thanks for showcasing.

You should do a review of the b6.3/ b6.4 on this track!

Nice buggy - and driving! Just got back into RC after a 25yr hiatus.
Can you get the bottom suspension control arms front and rear aluminum or carbon or titanium!???????????
Very nice build & review. Not bad for the first time out. 💯👍✌
You never what size pinion you're running? I'm running a 23t but was thinking of maxing it out at 25t. Is that too big you think?
Damn those shocks are so smooth on landing
Exceleraion is insane

Super cool buggy!
Wow it’s nearly identical to my b74.1d
I love buggies I wish I had one of them
#RCMadness “The place to Race!”
Not just the place to race. Also one of the best shops you can ever go to. 😄😎

Early running footage !
Beautiful
I love this stuff!!!
Awesome review and definitely looking forward to this one. Any idea what pricing is going to be on this?
Looks like $579 from what I've gathered.
Thanks! $579.99.
Nice buggy
bought one to just drive on a hard pack ball feild and low profile school yard grass .no tracks around my house
Are these car durable enough to bash if i replaced the towers with aluminum? I dont bash like talbot lol just fields and small jumps like that track
No it’s not. They’re only made for the track
Wow is it just me or is that driver stand really high? That car rocks. Makes me wanna race buggies. Unfortunately there's no place near me to race. South Jersey sucks for RC. Aside from crawlers at least.
All of NJ sucks for RC racing

Any word on a new tlr 1/8 race buggy?
No official word, but my guess it’s gotta be close.
WL Toys smokes this and it’s like 5x cheaper 😂
I was hoping Losi was going to drop something more mainstream instead of a niche $550+ roller 🙄I mean a SLIDER
Ah, but this is TLR, separate division than Losi. The racing community needs love too.

Sorry Losi but that's too close to 1/8 scale pro kit pricing
